An overdue account of a ‘meh’ afternoon made special at WCC: Earlier this month on yet another Saturday of unrelenting 100+ degree heat, where going to the pool (again) had worn out its appeal, my boyfriend and I thought to pop in to the WCC gallery. We hadn’t been in a couple of months and an activity with air conditioning sounded pretty good. We hadn’t anticipated what would be a most memorable visit! We were welcomed warmly by Megan with refreshing bottled water, an explanation that everything featured in the gallery was curated by one of their own employees, and an open invitation to learn more about any artist or piece specifically. My boyfriend and I walked the space and Megan appeared at what seemed like the most natural and yet delightfully-timed moments as we were lingering in front of some pieces longer than others. And depending on the gallery or gallery staff, art environments can sometimes make you feel unwelcome or stuffy. But Megan’s personality and the overall vibe of WCC is such a “come as you are”, welcoming, warm, human vibe. We loved learning little quirks about artists or more about the why behind the art. But that wasn’t even the best part… My boyfriend is a Dali fan (and I’m putting that mildly). After another gallery employee pointed out a tattoo of Dali on my boyfriend’s arm, Megan chimed in, “Do you want to see some Dali pieces we have in archive?” Uhm, heck yes we do! So we ventured to the back and got up close and personal with close to 15 originals that are from a family lineage private collection. My boyfriend is not what you’d describe as overly emotive, but when he says, “This makes me so happy. My day is made.” — trust me, he’s over the moon! Thank you Megan for such a personal, informative and fun afternoon :) We can’t wait to come back soon!

I’ve been a fan of WCC’s collection for years- they have had pieces from my favorite artist The Love Child and I’ve always been in awe of his work. When one came across my radar early this year, I called and Derek immediately asked if I’d like to come in and see some work. Immediately I was blown away by Derek’s knowledge of not only the pieces I was in to view, but every piece of art we walked by. He took a big part of his day to show me pieces he was passionate about, which made me feel like I wasn’t just there to purchase art but really enjoy an experience. Allee, WCC’s gallery director, is also amazingly passionate and knowledgeable about every aspect of art within the gallery. Her passion (especially for The Love Child) intersects so nicely with her overall welcoming personality and love of the art. I’ve purchased multiple pieces from Derek and will continue to go to him for my art. He takes his craft very seriously, and his love of art is apparent. Any time I’m downtown I love stopping by to say hey and see the new stuff- Derek and all of the WCC family is so welcoming and excited to show off their latest works. Lastly, I highly recommend seeing a show here. The gallery layout is terrific for a large show or a small more intimate showing- the setup is perfect. There is always something going on at WCC so make sure to say hey to Derek and get in for a show.

Before we moved to Austin my girlfriend and I made it a point to visit this gallery every time we visited. They cycle through there pieces fairly regularly, and there consultants (especially Megan) are extremely well versed in the pieces they show and the artists behind them. I’m happy to report that while we live in Austin, and have the opportunity to visit more often, “The well hasn’t dried up” so to speak. To say visiting is a “learning experience” would be a massive understatement. You can truly feel the personal connection that the gallery and the people behind it have toward each and every piece on it’s walls. Aside from the featured artists cycling through there works on a regular basis, The Contemporary makes a regular effort to showcase art put together by local artists, out of not only Austin, but Central Texas as a whole, which I greatly appreciate. All in all I’d say this is absolutely a place not only to visit when in town, but a place to return too on a regular basis. If to do nothing else than to ask Megan her thoughts on the pieces being sold in the gallery at any given moment. You won’t be disappointed, and I will be returning! I’d ad photos if I was ever not to mesmerized to remember to take any. Huge thanks to Megan and the rest of the staff for always making us feel welcome in an otherwise disconnected environment!

My goodness. Where to start? Irfan and Josie. Irfan I’ve met a few times, I’ve come to admire him as the most knowledgeable and passionate person there is. He has a way of pointing out the obvious by helping you get there yourself. You all of a sudden understand the artist and can appreciate their hard work so much more. He then will let you sit back and awe without a word, let you linger into the lust of the art and silence. I fell in love with a piece picked out with my friend Irfan. As a horribly frugal person, I’ve never felt more confident investing in a product in my lifetime, which should speak volumes to Irfan. Finally, Josie. As you’d imagine I have tons of small whatever pieces, but nothing like this. She was an absolute JOY to have in my home. She’s extremely genuine, detail oriented and diligent. She never judged me for my old poor hole marks, handled the piece with extreme care, and set it up flawlessly. I wholeheartedly trust these two and look forward to working with them specifically, but WCC generally ASAP! I’d recommend them to you, but then everyone would know my secret, keep this between us would you? Thank you Irfan, Josie, and WCC for the love of my life- my new original Connor brothers

I met Irfan by chance talking about traveling, art, etc. I commute to Austin for work and live out of town. I had no idea about West Chelsea and he said I should come by with my kiddos & check it out. We homeschool and we used today as an opportunity to talk to them about Art history and take in my 13 year old and 9 year olds. I’m SO GLAD WE DID. It was a very welcoming experience for the kids to be able to talk and show Salvador Dali Art, one of my favorites, along with the Bob Gruen Art. It was so uplifting having these pieces here in a local area that I had no clue about since I myself travel often. Irfan acknowledged my kiddos even tho it may seem scary bring kids to an art museum but it’s also important to continue the love to the younger generations. We will definitely be coming back for future shows & can’t wait to see what comes next.

I have very much enjoyed working with WCC. I have used them in three main capacities. First, custom framing jobs for prints. They have done three projects for me, with different types of glass and frames. In all cases they listened to my goals and provided me with the best options. I've been very happy with their support and pricing. Second, I purchased my first original piece from them. It was a bigger investment and my art consultant treated me with patience and empathy as a made the decision. I have zero buyers remorse and absolutely love the piece. They also came to my house and helped me hang it! Not only that, but they helped me hand multiple art works while here. They went above and beyond. Third, social events. I have gone to several shows/events now and I appreciate my art consultant inviting me. They are always fun.

I spent time earlier this week at West Chelsea Contemporary in Austin. It was truly one of the more unique and duckling art (and life) experiences. They were in between shows and setting up after a brief but detailed and fun conversation I walked the gallery and enjoyed the exhibits. Warhol, Koons, Yue Minjun and others. Allee the Assistant Director had greeted me on the way in, before I left she has few gems I had to see. Works from KAWS and Murakami up close as you can see. All of this based on a brief conversation. She was engaging with my sons talking about their thoughts and favorites. I purchased a couple books but this is an experience my sons and I will take with us forever. I’ll be back and won’t be leaving empty handed!

I recently went looking around Austin to make my first significant art purchase. I didn't know what I was looking for, but WCC was the right place for me to find it. While my own tastes are fairly narrow, I found many works that I could imagine living with in my home for the rest of my life, including the one I ultimately did purchase. Irfan Ishaq was a great guide through the gallery's inventory and was able to answer my innumerable questions, giving me the history of many pieces and artists, as well as offering advice on the workings of the art market and upcoming events at the gallery. I look forward to many returns to the gallery and keeping up with the news of the contemporary art scene.

Came here on a Monday afternoon with my friend who was visiting from Chicago. We realized pretty soon though that we came as they had just closed up their most recent exhibition. Luckily for us Irfan was in and gave us a sneak peak of what was coming up. I’m used to art galleries mostly ignoring me, thinking that since I’m not someone who would have the means of purchasing thousands of dollars but it was different here. Irfan personally talked to us about some of the pieces and invited us to the debut of their next showcase. 5 stars for excellent inclusive and welcoming service and for how knowledgeable and friendly everyone was. Can’t wait to stop by again :)

  • Allyssa Gonzalez

I have nothing but wonderful things to say not only about Irfan Ishaq but my experience with purchasing my first piece of art work at West Chelsea Contemporary.  I knew exactly what I wanted and spoke to Irfan on the phone in order to locate the piece. Irfarn greeted me as soon as I walked in the door moments later and knew exactly who I was. Irfan is knowledgeable about the pieces, professional and personable. I would highly recommend Irfan to anyone, whether you're purchasing your first piece of art or and curious about the artist. I will be returning and purchasing more artwork in the near future with Irfan Ishaq. Thank you !

WCC is one of the most incredible places to view, buy, and experience all kinds of contemporary art. The team there does an amazing job of showcasing local artists as well as greats from around the world! Derek Boone has been such a gem in educating me and my husband on art that WE enjoy experiencing and introducing us to up and coming artists as well! Come to WCC for the art, and stay for the community. The people who work here are knowledgeable, lovely, and the most supportive humans. They deeply care about art and making it accessible to all, and gallery director Allee Beatty does an incredible job upholding that standard <3

  • Liz Carey

My husband and I have worked with art consultant Irfan Ishaq for over a year to find the right artwork for our space. Over this time, Irfan has been thoughtful and patient in understanding the qualities we were looking for within our budget. Communicating with him has been easy and pressure-free, and when we found that perfect piece, he went out of his way to schedule our installation as quickly as possible. Ethan installed the art on a holiday (Memorial Day) and did so with care. Great gallery and every interaction with the staff has been outstanding along the way; we can't wait to enjoy more art at the gallery!

  • Janelle B

My husband and I had the best date night ever thanks to our experience at West Chelsea Contemporary. Ashlyn gave us a private tour of the gallery even though we mentioned that we were just there to look and not in the market to purchase. She was so courteous and her knowledge and passion for the art, artists, and their inspiration elevated our viewing pleasure ten-fold to what it would have been without her expertise. She also knew exactly when to let us explore on our own and when to return to give us more insights. This fine touch was exceptional. We will 100% be back! Thank you Ashlyn!

  • Nicolas Stahl

WCC is an amazing place to learn about contemporary art and find treasured and investible pieces to add to your collection. I first met Derek upon a referral from a friend, and he couldn't have been kinder, more helpful, or easier to work with. He is always full of knowledge, sharing wide ranging information to bring artists and their works into context. He has a broad grasp of the art ecosystem and has greatly helped me learn about the dynamic art market. I look forward to continue learning and building my art collection, thanks to WCC and Derek.

  • Sarah Eklund

My husband and I recently moved to Austin and love to visit the WCC gallery on weekends! There are always amazing new pieces and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. The first day we went, we met Irfan, who invited us to an artist talk that week and gave us the inside scoop on WCC pieces and artists. Now every time we go Irfan always greets us and tells us about the latest pieces. We love popping in and being able to see beautiful and striking art in person as opposed to scrolling through Instagram or websites. I wouldn’t pass this up!

  • Jeff Gerdes

The WCC has absolutely led the way in ushering in a new era of art curating in Austin - the city now enjoys a world class gallery! I've stopped in many times to view their exhibits and never have I been disappointed when conversing with their art consultants. Erfan Ishaq, in particular, has always made time to share his extensive knowledge, expand my horizons and make excellent suggestions in my quest to add some unique pieces to my walls. I'd highly recommend locals and visitors alike stop in to peruse their slace and rotating collection.

  • Arush Naithani

I can’t say enough great things about West Chelsea Contemporary and specifically working with Irfan. This was our first time purchasing real art and Irfan supported us through the almost 6 month long journey before we finally made the decision. Irfan carefully understood our requirements and budget before providing us several options. The options provided were so good which made the decision very difficult. Nevertheless, the beautiful piece now sits in our dining room and we can’t wait to go back and purchase our next piece.

  • Paolo Pastor

West Chelsea Contemporary is the gallery to visit in Austin. I’ve always enjoyed passing through as well as attending their events. However, if you do decide to go, you’ll hopefully be in the great company of Irfan Ishaq, an art consultant from the gallery. He is an incredible character with an impressive ability of storytelling. Irfan can tell you everything you need to know about the gallery and the story of each artist and their work. Truly a great gallery with an even better staff. I look forward to visiting again soon!

  • Danielle

WCC is a great place to experience modern and contemporary art in Austin. The exhibits rotate frequently and the gallery hosts artists to speak about their work at special events. The gallery is easy to find and has parking right outside. My art consultant, Megen, has been a delight on every visit. She shares fascinating stories about the lives of the artists, the eras in which the art was created and tons of cool details about each piece. It’s been a great experience every time! Stop by!

  • Harper Graf

There is never a bad experience at West Chelsea Contemporary. The first time I visited I was met with open arms by Irfan who has a stellar way of making you feel like an instant part of the WCC family. Thanks to Irfan and the WCC team, I’ve been able to attend amazing artist talks and view expertly curated showcases that always have me coming back for more. If you’re looking for a gallery with top-tier pieces and people, look no further than West Chelsea and the art enthusiasts who call it home.

  • Deb Lutz

I visited West Chelsea yesterday with some friends. Irfan welcomed us and kindly offered to guide us through the exhibits. He was very knowledgeable and informed on each artist and their work and made himself available to any questions we had. To make the experience even more enjoyable he graciously offered us beverages to enjoy as we walked through the gallery and we were welcomed to take pictures of the artwork. It was a wonderful experience and I plan on returning to this wonderful gallery.

  • Andrew Hanenberg

We stumbled upon WCC at Round Top and got the most amazing greeting and tour from Megen of their show at Round Top. Made us want to see what the Austin Gallery had to offer. Again Megen gave us an amazing tour of the Concrete to Canvas show. The curation includes so many incredible works of art. The team is one of the friendliest and most helpful that I've ever experienced. Excited to see what new work is to come and encourage everyone to check out all the great art they have to offer.

  • Brianna Groves

The gallery is in a great location and makes for a fun stop when visiting ATX. I made a visit during ACL and parking was no issue - huge plus in downtown. I was greeted by Megen, a friendly and knowledgeable consultant, who took the time to walk me through the gallery and really made the art come alive with stories and background info on the artists. The gift shop was adorable too and I love that it rotates with the shows. I’ll be making another trip to see the next stellar set-up!

  • Matteson Wynn

What a delight! The gallery is spacious and inviting, and the staff is warm, friendly, and super knowledgeable. I was made to feel really welcome and was openly invited to ask as many questions and to explore as much as I liked. The collection is really diverse, with an enticing mix of paintings, sculptures, and other artworks. There's a captivating mix of really famous artists and up-and-coming artists, including local artists. I highly recommend visiting! I can't wait to go back.

  • Simeon Dumas

Excellent Experience hands down. My wife and I had such a dope experience from the time we walked in we were greeted by Derek. His customer service and knowledge of art was incredible. He made the experience beyond enjoyable and he even recommended a few dining options as we left. This entire gallery experience was one of the best. From cleanliness, to some of the best artists featured. We will be back. This experience makes it worth moving to Austin.

  • Shay Schmidt

I was driving by and WCC caught my eye so I stopped to have a look. A great collection of contemporary artists and pieces that connect well with my art interests. The staff is super helpful and friendly, especially Gaby! She was quickly able to understand the type of art that resonates with my taste and interests. I'm excited to have also found a trusted source to frame a piece from The Connor Brothers that I acquired several years ago in London.

  • N. Tsoy

I almost never write reviews, but the West Chelsea won me over! Amazing collection. Everyone will find something to fall in love with. Especially I want to thank the art consultant Derek, he skillfully guided me throughout the gallery, taking me into the story of every piece of art. He knew exactly what he was talking about, impressed with his knowledge of history behind the piece and the artist. Looking forward to the next exhibition.

  • Alyssa Farrow

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with Irfan Ishaq, an art consultant, at WCC. He is passionate, knowledgable, talented, and exceptionally kind. Irfan goes above and beyond for his clients. He provides a pressure-free experience while understanding his clients desires and helps bring their dreams to life. I strongly recommend WCC. I am looking forward to many more years of incredible art and experiences at the gallery!

  • Ashley Aminah

My fiancé had come here a few times on his own. We came in after brunch just yo take a browse. It ended up being the best museum experience I’ve ever had. I work in the creative space and have produced a few exhibits of my own. I’ve never had anyone bring me along the history and journey of the artists and their art the way Megan did. She is a star and really took our afternoon museum stroll into a staple. What a gem. Thank you Megan!

  • R G

I love coming to this gallery. They always have a new theme and feature lots of cool artists, but my favorite part is how they really use the space to tell a story. The info plaques are always pretty detailed and interesting too. Also, major shoutout to Irfan!! He is super knowledgeable and helpful. If you have any questions or even just want to discuss the art on a deeper level, he’s your guy. Such a great experience every time

  • Joshua Fischer

This gallery always has cutting-edge exhibits that rival any museum. The staff is professional, pleasant, helpful and polite. You'd never expect to find such a world-class institution tucked away on West 6th, so it's completely worth a visit. The current exhibit by Swiss artist Simon Berger is especially mind-blowing; his work with cracked glass defies any logical explanation and leaves you shaking your head in admiration.

  • Marti Selby

WCC is a must do in Austin. The gallery is great, with a huge variety of well known and local artists. The service is one of a kind. Zaira went above and beyond, building off of our interests and helping us choose fun and interesting pieces! The framing services are superb, and the in-home art installation was efficient and impressive. The professional hanging service expertly secured our new art and elevated the space.

  • Madigan Family

Irfan and Allee helped set up a private gallery corporate event in the evening. The attendees were blown away by the space, the art and both of the hosts (Irfan and Allee)! So much excitement and creativity all around you it is hard not to feel inspired. It was unlike any other corporate event we had been to and future events will always be compared to this experience. Thank you Irfan and Allee! Sean M.

  • Marjorie Dick Stuart

Thank you Megen Liptz! My son Rhett and I really appreciate the private tour! Must say, it was the highlight of our trip to Austin! The works on display are inspiring, interesting, and really fantastic! Walking around with you and getting first hand info about the artists was so fun and franky, exciting. We really had a great experience to take home to DC and LA! And cheers to Saige for introducing us!

  • Marci Gonzalez

Love Love Love Austin's WCC and Irfan! This art gallery has impeccable taste in art and the staff. Irfan was super friendly, easy to speak with, and extremely knowledgeable of the pieces & the history of the art and artists. Lots of interesting and beautiful art that changes frequently, so there is always something new and exciting to see. I would recommend this gallery and ask for Irfan!

They have an amazing gallery and the staff is extremely helpful and polite. I spoke with Irfan and he is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. He was very kind to show my group and I some very precious works and show us works from our favorite artists. They not only have some of the best artworks but they have the best staff and our visit one that we will never forget.

  • Alia Govani

Came here looking for a piece to help stage my home, I found one and fell in love. I was in a rush so I emailed Irfan who was fantastic to work with. He knew exactly which piece I referred to by my description, he recommended other items that would compliment my home, and even loaded the piece in my car for me. He’s the only person I would trust to help me choose pieces in the future!

  • jennifer timmermans

We had such a fantastic time the other day visiting the gallery. Irfan was such a wonderful, knowledgeable, fun host! He really exposed my friends & I to quite a few new artists! It was a beautiful exhibit of pop, neo-pop & contemporary show of art. Irfan was showing us so many amazing pieces of art. Thank you for the fun afternoon! If you get the chance to visit the new exhibit, GO!

  • Natalie Davison

It was my first time visiting West Chelsea Contemporary and Irfan was the first to greet me and give me a tour of the gallery - not only is he knowledgeable about the current exhibitions but about the art world in general! I was very impressed with the variety of works WCC featured and the overall experience. Cannot wait to attend upcoming events at the WCC. :)

As a gallery at its scale, WCC is successful with its strong art collection and thoughtful planning. I also really enjoyed talking to Irfan, who was a friendly and passionate guide and who I learned so much from. After finding out my interest in the industry, he offered to show me more artworks from WCC’s previous collections. They were all so beautiful. :)

  • Finding Good Times

ABSOLUTELY an amazing gallery. Such diverse works of art. You can really immerse yourself in the creativity of it all and emerge feeling refreshed and renewed. Also, Savannah is incredible. She has such a glimmering personality that really speaks to the openness and vibe of the space. I will definitely be making this a regular stop on my gallery hops.

My first visit to WCC was not even intended to be for the gallery as I was there for an event but within minutes of entering, I was impressed by the collection of work and the the quality of the staff. Moved to Austin from New York City about a year ago and am so grateful this gallery is here! The most eclectic modern and contemporary art gallery. They throw great parties and the staff (particularly Irfan and Zyra (sp?) are warm, welcoming and friendly whether you are buying art or just spending an afternoon looking. Love this place :)

  • Gabriela Flores-Figueroa

I took my students on a field trip to the gallery and they really enjoyed the exposition but especially the art director Allee. She spent some time talking to the students about her role in the gallery and even showed them some artwork not displayed. It was great to see how galleries work and how they care for the art pieces.

  • adriana meza

I have had fine are framed at WCC and they are always first class. I have also had art consultants come to two different homes and had WCC hang my art. Victoria, Josie, and Jacob worked quickly, professionally, and creatively. WCC is top notch.

Had a wonderful time visiting West Chelsea Contemporary! Ashlyn was so insightful and we had great conversation about the pieces! There was a variety of different artworks and mediums to look at. Ashlyn really made it an immersive experience!

I got my painting from an artist on Etsy and had it framed at Russel Art & Frame, and West Chelsea Contemporary helped me deliver and hang our new beautiful piece in our dining room. They were on time and did a great job! Highly recommend.

I had the best experience buying art with Megen! She's so knowledgeable and I loved her enthusiasm for local Austin artists! I was unsure how the piece would look in my space so she arranged for it to be brought to my home to help me

We were ther to just look at their gallery and ended with an art piece! Savannah showed us around and was very helpful to solve our doubts and buy our first piece. Definitely would come back and recommend, they have great artwork.

What a thoughtful, unique showroom with a knowledgeable and invested team. We worked with Zaira for a special purchase and have enjoyed getting to know her and the space. The exhibitions are beautiful and I'd recommend to anyone!

  • Renee Santiago

Very friendly atmosphere. Not a snooty LA or New York City gallery. Chad Smith was awesome although he could have said thank you to the less fortunate who attended without the cash flow for his paintings. Great guy. Great day

  • Joseph Dodson

We stopped by, having heard about how amazing the collection was, and had just the best time. Ashlyn, ask for Ashlyn, was so informative and helpful. She really shared so much about all the art. Do yourself a favor, stop by.

Great helpful staff! The gallery features contemporary street and graffiti artists. The price points show the value of urban influenced artists. They offer financing on the art. Nice space with great lighting to see the art.

Great gallery in Austin. They present mostly “famous” artists and pop culture works, replicating pieces when I was there but definitely a fun environment. Special thanks to Irfan for the tour.

Excellent collection of artwork from different areas (not necessarily local). Pricing for the show I attended ranges about $3k to $8k and will likely be prints. Monthly gallery evening show.
