A Lovely parks that's close to the city. So many trails to explore, some of which lead to the water and offer amazing views of the Olympics. You should definitely check out the West Point lighthouse on the western most point of the peninsula. There's parking (although very limited) by the water and no restroom at the beach area. My preference is to park in the North parking lot which has a lot of space, restrooms and is next to a big wide open field where you can have a picnic or play sports. Then one can typically hike up (a bit of hike) the paved ramp and take one of the trails down to the water. Discovery Park Lighthouse, is an active aid to navigation on Seattle, Washington's West Point, which juts into Puget Sound and marks the northern extent of Elliott Bay. The lighthouse is similar in design to the Point No Point Light and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. It is a main feature of Seattle's Discovery Park. Under current rules, visitors may access the beach on foot by a number of trails, except for people with children under 8, people over 62, and people with physical problems that prevent them from walking long distances. (The lighthouse is located about 1.5 miles from Discovery Park parking lots or from the park's Visitors Center.) (credit information from wiki)

My visit took place about 7 months ago as of this review. This place is incredibly beautiful. The walk here took about 35 to 40 minutes from the discovery park entrance. Even the walk there is breathtaking. The smell of early morning dew combined with the soil gives every visitor such a welcomed morning. Better than the smell of any morning coffee. This magical place makes you feel like you are walking on some enchanted land from the olden times of the medieval era. The greenary, the wind, the sound of the Pacific ocean smashing through the rocks, it all comes together like some orchestra from nature. Once you get to the lighthouse, you find yourself at this little peninsula. Rocky and acoustic, other than the light structure it is just you, the scattered clouds, the small dark sanded shore and the ocean. The end reward is worth it. Highly recommended. I enjoyed this hike a lot. My family & I parked in the North Parking lot. I deducted a star b/c every trash can in the park seemed to be over flowing. The hike from the north parking lot to the west point lighthouse in Discovery park took us about 40min to hike w/ a six yr old who enjoys taking lots of breaks. Fairly easy, a few areas of the trail that need repair but nothing you can't get around. Parts of the trail are directly behind the water treatment plant & occasiotrial you might smell a mild sulfur scent through certain areas. Lots of spots to look out on the water before you get back to the beachy area. ***There is a parking lot as well right at the west point lighthouse but you have to have a parking permit from the visitor center to park there. (although, I'm not sure if that's strictly enforced b/c we saw a lot of people come & go w/out one & didn't get towed so that's a plus.)

West Point Light house offers views of Seattle's natural beauty, the view from here is breathtaking, making it a must-visit destination. There are a few aspects that could be improved. Parking was a bit of a hassle. There's a noticeable lack of parking spaces, which can be frustrating on busy days. Another issue was the absence of dedicated seating areas. While the park offers natural beauty, it would be nice to have more benches or picnic spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings comfortably. Moreover, I found the lack of information about the place and its history disappointing. Having educational signage or brochures available would enhance the visitor experience, allowing us to learn more about this beautiful park.

Really lovely. Nice weather, a bit windy. Lots of people, but there are a couple trails that have less/no traffic. Low tide left sea life to look at, mostly barnacles and anemones. Plenty of free parking at the North Parking Lot, but there's also parking up close to the lighthouse, which requires you to pay first at the visitor's center. The walk from the north parking lot does have a really steep hill on the east in and out. It's a beautiful place to explore. The smell from the water treatment plant is pretty terrible in some places, though.

We stopped here so my husband could see the light house since it was the filming spot for Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog. We had our parents with us who didn't really understand the musical reference but they enjoyed looking at the Puget Sound and the lighthouse from the beach. We were only on site for maybe 10 minutes. Took some pictures, skipped some rocks across the water and headed out. Will definitely have to come back some day when we have more time to explore the park more and its history.

Very beautiful view point. If you want to go here you need to get a 3 hour permit from the visitor centre which they will only give if you have a senior or infant which we had in our car so you can park right close to light house. If not you have to walk quite a lot. But over all the view is breath taking check out the video & follow for more reviews of beautiful places.

A gorgeous light hike will have you go through various throws of fauna and terrain. You will see the woods, the sandy beach, the picturesque mountains and a very charming, small, red and white lighthouse that is not your typical lighthouse. The views are spectacular and you will see the mountains from Olympic National park on a clear day. It’s extremely lively during Autumn because you can see the forest in multiple colors and it just is breathtakingly beautiful.

My wife and I came to visit. Based on Google map recommendations, we decided to go to the West Point Lighthouse. After driving all the way down from Bellingham, we were shocked to see that they don't have public parking, only permit parking. We parked in a 'tow away zone' and walked to the lighthouse and beach for about 15 minutes and left.

It is a nice area, if you want to come here to exercise or do some walking with your dog I totally recommend this place, if not just to do some sightseeing I totally recommend you to come with a car because it took me about 35 to 40 minutes to walk from the entrance of the park to the lighthouse and I was tired as hell

The actual lighthouse is small and not that exciting. However the beach is pretty incredible. On a nice sunny day you can enjoy the water with the beautifully scattered driftwood along the coast. The hike from the visitor center isn't too bad. You will eventually need to go down many stairs. My only complaint are the shuttles to and from. It's hard to get on one and also the pickup and drop off spots aren't labeled well.

  • S “Shyi” M

So beautiful, every inch of the park was worth the trip. Filled with lush trees and streams. You will find people taking in the scenery, jogging, hiking, laying in the grass, or picnicking. Couples, families and individuals enjoy this vast land. This place is definitely a "Shyi Recommended" so, if you are ever in the Seattle area, come visit Discovery Park.

  • Susan Ding

We came after dinner to watch sunset. As expected, we enjoyed the beautiful sunset, sound of waves and ocean breeze. There are limited parking, or no parking near the lighthouse. The lighthouse itself needs touch up. Overall worth the visit but city can do more to make this park more appealing for people to enjoy this gorgeous ocean view.

  • Blake Hamilton

Located in a massive park called "Discovery Park," the West Point Lighthouse is worthy of a visit. You must hike to get to it, otherwise take an Uber or Lyft down but you won't be able to park at the site. Wear shoes suitable for mud in the winter as it can be muddy on the dirt trail, but once you get down to the beach it is incredible.

  • Tinson Luey

After a long hiking. Come down to this beach and eat your snack, lunch, or whatever, while enjoying the view. This spot is located at Discovery park. You can also drive down, but I recommend hiking down to it, it's worth trying for. It was a weekday that I go, so I have the whole beach for myself. Weekdays lots of people.

  • Ioana Cozma

Great park. It was recommended to us by my husbands boss & we drove from the Portland area just to come to this park for the day. So much space that you don’t have to worry about it being crowded, there’s room for everyone. There’s a little bit of everything here: forest, beach, picnic areas, lots of grassy fields etc.

  • Yü Wu

What a beauty! I came in the morning and really enjoyed the open, peaceful view at the little cape. The trail that leads to the lighthouse is steep so be prepared. You can either go back the same way, or take a detour and walk along the north beach trail to go back onto the loop trail.

  • Adrian Santos

Gorgeous sunsets in the summer; Parking is very limited (by permit only) and has a “distinct” odor near the parking lot, thanks to the nearby sewage treatment plant. The air gets much better as you get closer to the lighthouse.

Really pretty, but their parking rules are pretty silly. Don't forget to get a parking permit for the lighthouse at the discovery center. Loss of one star because of this.

Manicured trail down to the lighthouse. We were there in July and the weather was very nice. Vegetation was lush. The lighthouse view against the sea and driftwood everywhere was classic. Beautiful scenery.

I parked at the North Lot, walked about 30 minutes on the trails to get to the lighthouse/discovery park. Some of the trails were muddy, be careful if you decide to do that. It was a nice hike today and was worth the visit.

Beautiful location right by the beach where you can take in amazing views of the Puget Sound. The lighthouse itself is not accessible, but you can walk around it via trail. Definitely visit this point if you're visiting Discovery Park.

  • Bradley Harvey

Park was beautiful, but be prepared to walk a while to the lighthouse. You can get a parking pass for a lot right next to it if you are disabled or have small children, otherwise it is 1.6 miles from the parking lot to the lighthouse.

  • Maria Arbonés

Stunning. There’s a trail you can take or you can drive down there. Dogs aren’t allowed on the actual beach.

I went for a morning walk turned to a mini hike. The trail was really easy. Fresh air, a lot of trees. The might house and the water was breathe taking. Highly recommend it. It’s also very safe if you are walking alone

  • Brian Thoren

A beautiful stop on a hike through the park. The beach and rocks make for a good photo opportunity or to just sit and enjoy the view. Make sure to be ready to handle the stairs down to the water and up to return home!

  • lau c.

Great views, the best park in the city. The light house is surrounded by a lot of stones so you cannot take the bike until there and there is not bike parking in the car parking (the small one near the lighthouse).

  • Briana Bianco

Very pretty beach and lighthouse. Long walk from the north parking lot. But it was worth it.

Probably one of the most beautiful lighthouses I have seen. I got there early so there were not many people. It is a long walk though as there is nowhere close to park so bring your walking shoes!

  • Reine

It’s, quaint. It reminds me of a detached garage with a lego light on top. Maybe it’s more Inspiring at night? The shore it sits on was dotted with families on this sunny but cold day.

  • CherylM

You need stamina to walk from public parking in to the beach and back out, but oh, how wonderful to dip toes in the clear, cold Sound waters and create sculptures from the drift wood.

  • Michelle Mitton

A pretty drive to get there, though with COVID the parking lot is closed so you'd need to hike or bike in--and it's a long road in. Once you're there it's pretty and has nice views.

  • Melinda Stannah

A nice walk at discovery park leads you to this lighthouse and an awesome beach. There are plenty of trails at the park .Bring your kids and dogs for a light stroll in a summer day.

  • Rogelio Herrera

Awesome hike and great views all the way down to the lighthouse. Note that parking is not available near lighthouse, you have to park at Discovery Park lot and hike to the bottom.

  • Charlotte C.

A great place to go for viewing the sunset. The beach is beautiful and the lighthouse is picturesque. I've gotten some of my best sunset pictures and strolls right here.

  • Don Puckett

Cool little spot at the tip where ospreys can be seen hunting fish, crows and seagulls competing, modest little lighthouse. The ride down is especially fun on a bike!

  • Robert Alberg

I visited West Point Lighthouse and the Caretaker's house in Discovery park one time in the evening at sunset and is very nice area to visit and take photos.

  • rahul chaturvedi

Wait until around the sunset the lights turn on and get a close look at this magnificent house. Right behind is the water treatment plant. Do read about it.

  • Andy Ng

Cute little lighthouse located at the western tip of Discovery Park. This lighthouse is no longer in use but remains a focal point for visitors to the park.

  • Andreja Bradshaw

Truly one of the most stunning beaches in Seattle such a true hidden gem! Plus it’s the best beach to find seaglass! Highly recommend visiting before sunset

  • shanaie taylor

Beautiful experience! Not crowded either! The drive to it is absolutely gorgeous. This is a great inexpensive sight to see while vacationing in Seattle!

  • Nicholas Spragg

A very nice area for walking on the beach or trails. Bald Eagles can be spotted here and wild blackberries can be picked along the paths around August.

  • Arash D

Peaceful park for walking\hiking\running. Its no entrance fee and there are lots of free parking spot. Trails go among trees and also beside water.

Took the bike trail from Fremont to Discover Park beach. Sight made the efforts worth it. This is really quite place for good evening with family.
