I had an appointment with Ransome at noon for a bridal hairstyle. Unfortunately, I was running 15 minutes late on the day of my wedding. I called the salon 4 times earlier in the morning and no one picked up. I was hoping to ask if it would be okay to be 15 minutes late.. When I arrived at 12:15, Ransome said she had given my appointment to someone else and asked if I could wait 20 minutes. I know that I was late, but considering that wedding days can be hectic, I would not recommend this salon to anyone on their wedding day. I was frustrated by the experience and felt rushed. I asked if someone else could do my hair, and she found another hairstylist to begin drying it. However, I do not like the practice of giving away bridal hair appointments without contacting the bride first. After speaking with another hairstylist, I found that Ransome had double booked that day rather than taking another appointment last minute. On my wedding day, I did not want to be double booked and would have preferred to be prioritized. I will not be returning to this salon. I did not like the vibes of carelessness that I received from Ransome and it made for a less happy start to a really special day. If I felt prioritized by the salon, I would have likely stayed a little longer and asked for exactly what I wanted, but I couldn't wait to get out of there. I wasn't 100% pleased with my hair, and would have preferred to stay a little bit and make adjustments, but said it looked good and quickly left so that I could regain composure. For me, it is important to have a stylist you feel at ease with, and one that makes you feel comfortable and prioritized. I unfortunately felt stressed, uncomfortable, and unimportant after interacting with Ransome.

Overall, the team did an amazing job with hair and makeup, varying services and moving us along for our timeline. We arrived at 9:00am and they were able to start with 4 of us, rotating between stations/stylists to see everyone. This is the most ideal situation for a group of our size and wedding day bookings. Everyone’s blow outs and styles were done incredibly well and as requested, and if curls dropped, they jumped in to fix/re-do styles. We had a slight delay for our group - other appointments came in during our booked time - but they immediately figured out stylists to keep us going. We were able to bring in breakfast (nearby Panera), coffee and mimosa! A fantastic start to the wedding day! The team was wonderful managing a large group of a wide array of ages (14-35), and making sure we were all happy with the result. As an out-of-town bride, I had my trial a month before the wedding and Ransome was AMAZING in making sure I was happy with my hair and makeup. She asked all of the right questions to get me thinking about my hair/makeup, and was super available for questions as they arose. Thank you WiP Downtown! I would absolutely recommend the salon to bridal groups or other large groups of folks!

My first experience at this place was terrific, Seth was able to see my vision and execute it wonderfully. I scheduled a second appointment with someone different who absolutely butchered my hair. I used the same photos (a natural and light copper toned balayage with mild face framing) and asked for the same thing; she had no idea what she was doing. The first time she showed me it was a bright firetruck red. Absolutely not what I asked for. She did tone it again but there was no toning it down to where I wanted it. The manager gave me an at-home toner that did nothing, and scheduled a redo. During that time in between, two major life events felt ruined because all I could think about was how horrible my hair looked. The person that redid it talked down to me, very clear she was upset to have to do it for less than usual (according to the manager). The redo had zero copper tones and was much blonder than I wanted, and I walked out of there with worst style I’ve ever received from a salon. My hair is completely fried and lost all the curl and moisture I put years into rebuilding after some health issues. The manager also refused to even partially refund the money wasted. I will never be returning and encourage no one to go here.

My first visit to Wip was over a year ago, I got a blowout before a nice evening out. The scalp massage was hands down the best shampoo ever. I can get anxious about having someone new do my hair, even just a blowout. Ransome was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I had to come back and see what more magic she could work with my strands! Before coming to Wip, I had another solan color my hair hoping to get a red... it was brown . So for my return visit, I got a color correction to lighten my hair. I was immediately pleased with my new color. In fact when I returned to teaching the next day my third grade students were thrilled that I had "fixed it!" My hair has never been healthier! It's longer and has more body than I thought possible. I get compliments throughout the life of my highlights! Before people might say something just after I color it. Now people complement my color right up to my next service! One of my good friends with much thicker hair has even switched hair salons after seeing my hair transform and my raving about the relaxing shampoo and scalp massage! I can also highly recommend the waxing services they provide as well!

I started with a haircut and color consulting with Miriam. Right away I could tell the vibe of the salon and the staff matched what I was looking for - I like a more funky edgy look and not every salon has the same eye for that but saw through some light research that Miriam could handle what I was looking for. Miriam gave me a great haircut and valuable info for the balayage look I've been wanting to do. She gave me options and put a solid plan together that made me feel comfortable with pursuing a more drastic color change. I had my first lightening appt this weekend, and the tone of the color was a great start as a transition to a lighter shade. She really made sure the treatment still left my hair looking and feeling healthy! Her and Lily worked on my hair forever to get a good first result, with some great tips and recommendations, and I'm looking forward to going back there for the rest! They are super kind and fun to talk to during a long appt and the whole place just has a positive, friendly vibe! Miriam and Lily know what they are doing! Definitely just gained a loyal customer here!

Alexis is an ARTIST. I’ve never chanced upon such a lucky encounter before this. You will not be disappointed. She has been styling my naturally curly and once-oh-so-squirrely hair for about 3 years, now. As another Reviewer said, she LISTENS. I could never before get even one Stylist to LISTEN and leave fullness at the crown. With curly hair it creates a silhouette that is just BAM. She did it first visits and then totally agreed. Now, it’s standard for me. She has implemented her own suggestions that resulted in improvement, as well. As a Work In Progress, we collaborated and nailed it. Another TOTAL WIN for the loft/ salon is the Quiet Room that is dimly lit with soothing music and is available for shampooing and scalp massages and other beauty voodoo which I enjoy every visit. In addition to wonderfully nice staff, another major draw for me is the online Scheduling calendar. I schedule my appointments out an entire year and can easily move and reschedule all online.

This is a difficult review to write. Objectively it deserves 5 stars, subjectively I'd give it 2 stars. Ransom was the lady's name who cut my hair and honestly I did not get a good feeling from her at all. I wish I would have just left as soon as I got a bad vibe. She did exactly what I asked although she didn't think it would look good. She gave me a great wash, cut and style but something was just not right. It could have just been me, which is why I gave it an objective review. There was a guy working there, I don't know his name but I didn't get a bad vibe from him at all. At the end of the day, I would never go back, but if you don't pick up on weird vibes and you just want a great haircut, this is a great place to go. Please note, as far as I could tell this place is not wheelchair accessible and you have to be able to climb up a long flight of steep stairs.

These gals have magical hands and the most eccentric vibe. They will leave you feeling fabulous and freshened! They offer you a complimentary beverage. Ransome did my hair and it was a great reset. As a momma it is important for me to feel that I am relaxed and pampered. She washed my hair with a great head massage. Also covered me in a heated blanket! She knew exactly how to trim my hair and bangs to feel light but yet voluminous! Ransome is seriously a hair God. I have also had my hair by Alyssa and she is the sweetest! She will also give you what you need in hair service. She is honest in her work and fun to talk to! Pricing is very fair. I know a lot of other salons that are a fortune in the same buisness and can be rude. WIP is the place to go!

I was referred to WiP by friends that are stylists themselves to get my hair and makeup done for my wedding in 2015 (my friends were in my wedding, so they couldn’t do it). I had nothing but great things to say about the results for my wedding! My makeup held all day in the heat, and not a hair out of place by the time my head finally hit the pillow late that night. Flash forward to now, and those 2 friends are now part of the WiP team! I went back in April to get a color and cut, and once again they didn’t disappoint. I personally worked with Miriam and Lily (who I could speak the most amazing things about all day long), but I know that the rest of the team is right there with them. You’d be in great hands with anyone at WiP!

Ransome is a hair wizard. I have always had my hair platinum blonde until the day that I decided to start getting highlights and lowlights at my previous salon. Feeling unsatisfied with my lack of blondness, I went to Ransome. She took my hair almost immediately back to my beloved platinum hair. She is professional and knowledgeable and she really takes her time to figure out how to maintain healthy hair while achieving the color you want. No other stylist has been able to keep my hair manageable like she has. I have less breakage and overall softer hair. The salon also keeps up to date on new products. Their new Tigi hair treatment is a must try with your color service for healthy results !

I usually go to the same stylist every 8 weeks but she was out of town when I needed to get my hair redone. I decided to give Wip another try. I was not impressed. I had orange in my hair and the highlights i got didnt even cover up my roots.She said it was because I had such thick hair(which I do) but my regular stylist never has problems with my hair. I was never told a price until the end. I paid $140 for a haircut and highlights that weren't correctly done. The stylist did say I could get ahold of her and she could fix it I did email her and never got a response back. I will never go back to this salon because of the unprofessionalism.

I loved my experience here! My first experience at this salon was with stylist Jenna Fritts. She was so patient and sweet. She asks about your hair history and makes sure that your hair goal is something that is possible. If it isn’t possible she is super sweet and helpful to find something you are happy with. They also have a shampoo room that is seperate from the full salon, it’s a soothing and tranquil experience especially since she takes the time to massage your scalp while you are in there! You definetly get amazing service and the vibes in this salon are so good. I definetly reccomend this salon and Jenna as your stylist.

Miriam and Lily are the best! Every time I come see them, they go out of their way to make my hair dreams come true! I've been seeing them both for about a year now and I am so happy with the results of having expert stylists care for my hair. They are an awesome team! They communicate well and have such approachable dispositions, I felt at home the first time I came. The whole salon has such a comfy vibe! Everyone is so nice and I really enjoy each visit. Had a fantastic experience at Wip! My stylist, Ransome, really took the time to listen to what I wanted and asked me questions about my lifestyle to determine the best cut for me realistically. The shampooing had to be the most relaxing hair salon experience of my life. She covered me with a heated blanket (!), used essential oils, and gave me a great head massage. In the end, we decided on a conservative trim and shape-up, which isn't always the easiest thing too accomplish! Some stylists just want to overboard. Ransome gave me exactly what I wanted, along with a very pampering, relaxing experience.

I have been loyal patrons of Lily and Miriam for years now and let me tell you when they moved to WiP downtown I was very excited. The salon is beautiful with it’s corner location has lots of natural light. The space is so open and welcoming and the vibes are just.. immaculate . As someone that likes to try different things with my hair often (undercut, more unnatural colors, fringe, etc.), I always felt at home with Lily and Mir, but WiP has been the perfect extension/compliment of their fun, funky, fresh style. Check this place out, you will NOT be disappointed.

I have been getting my hair cut by Lily for the last 10 years. I have never ever had a bad haircut by her, they have been the exact opposite, they are always perfect and done with precision. I always leave the salon with a smile on my face and great satisfaction with a fresh new cut. She puts her heart into every cut and putting that with her skill she’s the best of the best. She’s also honest and gives you her opinion and knows her stuff and never ceases to amaze me with her knowledge as well as her talent. Guys and girls go check her out. You won’t regret it.

I got my hair color treatment done with Alexis last week. I really loved the professional experience she carries in crafting my hair as I desired. I was so unsure about what I wanted, she picked clues from what I talked and made me look great. Hanging out at her station was fun. WiP downtown team is hardworking, super enthusiastic people about styles they bring to their customers. Sanitizing station, lounge, treatment everything was well maintained. I have been loyal to this salon for 5 years. I have my hair cut by Alexis and she always does a great job and really considers what look I want and how it will work with my hair’s natural shape and thickness. During coronavirus they are being super safe, with full mask compliance and high sanitation procedures, including a sanitation station before you enter. There is street parking all over the block and a garage next door if you prefer that. I always recommend them if I get a compliment on my hair, and I get lots of compliments on my hair!

I'll never return to box dye and chain salons again. Needing to treat myself after a rough couple weeks I made an appointment with Ransome and she did nothing short of amaze me. She gave me a rich color that complemented my skin tone perfectly. She took the time to get to know my hair routine and teach me how my natural texture and curl can be tamed. Seth has been doing my hair for at least 15 years and I put my trust fully in his ability every time I see him. Most recently I decided to officially start getting my hair colored to cover the gray and was wowed once again by how Seth made me feel at ease while making my hair look like it's younger self again- shiny, healthy, and perfectly colored. So thankful to be able to put my hair in his oh so capable hands time and time again. Highly recommend.

I enjoy every time I get my hair done with Miriam and Lily. Miriam is the best at color. She does a complex layering of teals, purples, pinks and blue foils that always makes me happy and leaves me feeling beautiful and colorful. The salon windows are huge and bring in so much light. My cuts are exactly what I want every time. I would suggest both of these lovely women…they are talented, they truly care about people and they are both so kind.

I've been working with Andra since 2015 and honestly I wish I would have found her sooner. Not only is she hugely talented and passionate about her work but also she's just a wonderful person to be around. In my opinion she has always gone over and above in terms of taking the time to truly understand my individual hair health and needs and designing a unique hair regimen that actually works for me. My search for a hair stylist is over at last!! Marta worked hard to make sure my balayage was done how I wanted. She was very kind, patient, and did and amazing job! There was another girl getting her hair dyed at the same time. She did half and half and the colors turned out SO vibrant and gorgeous. My visit was not cheap but I got what I paid for! If you want excellent service and your hair done right, make your appointment ASAP!!

I’ve been going to Wip for awhile now and can’t imagine going anywhere else to get my hair cut/colored. The salon is always clean, tidy, and up to date. Seth is the absolute best! He is professional, easy to talk to, and so talented at what he does. He always goes above and beyond with my hair requests-it always comes out better than I expect! Jenna has cut my hair for as long as I can remember and she absolutely kills it everytime! She is so good at helping me find the right cut for me and has always done a stellar job bringing it to fruition. Not only is she great at cutting, coloring, and styling my hair, she is also someone I love talking to while in her chair! She brings so much fun and energy to the salon and makes my day everytime!

WIP Downtown provides excellent service. My shampoo and scalp massage were very needed. I appreciated their friendly staff, the use of quality products, and the attention to detail. The studio is clean with an open design and, since it is on the second floor, the view provides an added bonus. Wip is the best salon in Indy! All the stylists are super friendly and talented. I've been going to the owner, Ransome, for years to get my hair cut and colored. They even do fantasy colors. My boyfriend goes to Haley for his cuts, and always looks very dapper. The salon itself is swanky but inviting and you will always feel welcome. You can schedule appointments online which is really convenient.

This place is wonderful, the space is clean and beautiful but I am most impressed by the artistry and energy of Lily and Miriam! I had the privilege of having both of these incredible stylists work on my hair and I am thrilled with the results! It’s been a few weeks and I still can’t believe it looks this good!! These two are magical and I will definitely return to see them in the future!

I've been seeing Andra for years now. I was referred by a friend after struggling for years to find someone who could help with my naturally curly hair. She stays current with product and hair knowledge and helps me find styles and colors I absolutely love and feel confident with. My young son also gets his hair done by Andra and he absolutely beams with confidence afterwards.

Today was my third appointment with Ransome for color and deep conditioning treatment. She is fabulous and my hair looks amazing! We changed it up just a tiny bit this time, and the color is perfect! The ladies there are always so friendly and make sure you have been greeted and offered a beverage. This is also where I had my wedding updo done, and I cannot recommend it more!

I was getting it cut short for the first time in almost ten years. I was able to chat with Alexis beforehand about what kind of look I had in mind, and she clearly put a lot of thought into it, before I ever stepped through the door. Not surprisingly, she nailed it! I am EXTREMELY picky about who cuts my hair and Alexis is only the second person I've trusted with that task. She always knows what will look good on me and I don't even have to find a reference photo beforehand. I also recommend her and WiP downtown whenever someone is looking to get a new stylist or to have their hair done for a special event.

It's been a long time since I've had my hair done professionally, so I was a bit nervous-- but he was very gracious, easy to talk to and willing to help guide me. The cut and color was just what I wanted! I have another appointment booked with him next month :-)

I have never loved my hair until Lily & Miriam starting doing it. The blonde color is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! Additionally, my teenage son said he never wants to go anywhere else for his haircut. Unprofessional and inconsiderate staff! I had a family health emergency and wanted to cancel my appointment! The lady on the phone kept telling me that I will have to pay a charge for cancellation, even though I called them 24 hrs prior! They are insensitive about their clients situation. Never going back to this place!

10/10 I was so impressed with their salon. Their employees are absolutely amazing. They were able to get me in on a ridiculously short notice to get my hair done before my birthday. YALL. Jenna ALWAYSSSS exceeds my expectations when she does my hair! She’ll knock it out of the park no matter what style/color you want. I saw Marta yesterday for the first time. I thought I liked this cut when I left the studio, but when I woke up this morning I was stupid-happy when I brushed my hair literally twice and it looked perfect. Definitely one of the best cuts I’ve ever had and Marta is also a fantastic conversationalist.

I came here to get my hair colored along with a haircut. The place was beautifully decorated and the people were extremely nice. Miriam and lily worked on my hair and made sure I get the exact result I wanted. They looked at the photos and gave recommendations best suited to my face.

I cannot brag on Alexis enough. I absolutely recommend her for cuts, color, and styling! She gave me the most beautiful rosey hair color for my first ever dye, and consistently delivers incredible cuts. She’s very knowledgeable and works hard to make sure I get exactly what I want.

Had a very unfortunate experience taking a group to get blowouts as part of my bachelorette party. Be careful booking appointments with a party until you're sure everyone can come and check if they will have enough stylists staffed. Also ended up having to redo my own hair after.

Alexis is a master with curly hair. I wanted to cut 12 inches of hair off, and she made the short style incredible! (Right above shoulder) The layers are so beautiful and effortless. I put my hair half-up at work now because it looks too glamorous down.

I went to a few different salons before finding WiP and I can’t recommend this place enough! Alexis is amazing and she helped pick out a color for my hair that looks perfect for me. The salon is spotless and everyone is incredibly nice.

Alexis gave me a gorgeous long hair, hair cut. I am so thrilled with it! I had an idea of what I wanted but could not find a picture. She nailed it! I’m travelling through but hope to be back as I’ll be wanting exact same cut.

Andra has cut my hair since 2013, and I will not let anyone else near my hair. I always leave feeling good. I have referred many a friend to get their haircut by her and have heard only good things. She can do it all!

I recent met my Daughter down her to spend time with her while she got her hair done. This place is really nice, friendly and Alexis did an amazing job. Her assistant was very nice too. Thanks for the great service

Love this place! Seth always does a fantastic job with my pink hair. He got my hair from dark brown to like a light pink in one session, which is amazing. And the stylists are all so nice and super knowledgeable.

I've been to Wip twice now with Andra and it's been a great experience! She is very thorough with asking exactly what you want, does a great head massage and my hair has turned out exactly as I asked each time!

First time going here for a haircut. The stylists gave input and helped me realize what I wanted out of a haircut. They offered me a drink (which should be customary at shops). A very positive experience

I went to wip for the first time to get a major cut. At least half of my hair had to go! Alexis gave me a fantastic cut along with some great hair knowledge and an amazing shampoo. I found my new salon!

A beautifully lit, open space. Every stylist is talented on many levels (cut, color, wax, etc.) and owner Ransome gives the BEST scalp massages.
