We walked over for a late lunch during a hair show at the Orpheum Theater and the poor staff was overwhelmed! It was a Monday and they had no idea they would be slammed after their normal lunch rush with probably a hundred hungry hair stylists. The staff kept their cool, did the best they could given the circumstances and still delivered tasty fresh food and bev. Understandably our second sandwich got lost in the shuffle and the redheaded cashier brought us complimentary truffles to thank us for our patience which was very sweet.

Yesterday I went to IlCaffè, a delightful cafe that serves two mouthwatering dishes: Avocado Toast and Croissants. The Avocado Toast features perfectly toasted bread generously topped with creamy avocado spread, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The Croissant, on the other hand, is a buttery and flaky pastry that is simply divine. Both dishes showcase IlCaffè's commitment to quality ingredients and exquisite taste. Whether you're a fan of the creamy avocado goodness or crave a delectable croissant, IlCaffè is the place to be for a satisfying and flavorful experience.

Updates: Every Thursday they have natural wine tasting, 3 pours for $15. Plus there is a good food truck outside. I think it’s one of few best espresso varieties in town. Ham & cheese Croissant was flaky & tasty. The place also has a selection of Italian wine & Italian deli. Feels like an Italian neighbor shop for bites, wine, & snack! They maybe a bit understaff though. But who isn’t these days? Most eateries are suffering from labor shortage. :/

  • Chess LA

Ilcaffé is a Swedish cafe at the base of the historic Eastern building on the corner of Broadway and 9th in DTLA. The location is gorgeous, with the Eastern building in the background, and rows of old trees providing shade for the outdoor sidewalk seating. Pickup games of chess are common here. According to word of mouth, any evening Thursday - Sunday could have games going, but Sunday is the most popular day. The cafe does not provide boards or pieces, so bring your own supplies if you want to come and play chess.

Such a well kept secret of mine I almost didn't want to post about it. The noise level is so balanced, comfortable seating, perfect balance of natural sunlight and artificial lighting, a really non-friendly but genuine service (love!), good coffee, even better tea—cold brewed coconut tea omg, freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, acne studios next door, restroom with aesop okay I'll stop here.

Nice place to grab coffee or a few nice snacks. Seating inside or outside. Probably the coolest coffee shop in the area. Iced coffee, espresso, paninis, baked goods. A few seats inside, most are for outside around the building and street side. Recommended.

Cappuccinos are perfectly made. Served in glassware, and served in the traditional size. Cherry forward taste and perfectly foamed every time. They also have panini sandwiches and a nice outdoor seating area. Great spot for a quick afternoon coffee and a small meal.

Literally one of the best cafés in DTLA. Vibes are immaculate and they've got great sandwiches and nice outdoor seating right on Broadway. Staff are extremely cool and service is fast. It has a really nice European vibe and is right next to the Acne store! You can come here for coffee breakfast lunch or evening drinks. The wine selection is small but quality. Can't say enough about this place i'm so happy it exists in LA.

  • Art Janota

What a horrible experience! Walked in, didn’t get greeted at all, felt like they wanted nothing to do with their customers. We asked if they have food available that’s on their menu… the guys response “idk man, I haven’t made anything yet.” Then they turned around and left the counter. No eye contact. We left. Would never come back here again. Good luck with your horrible business…

Pros - beautiful building. Cons - nasty customer service - server with british accent was harassing me because I was drinking alcohol ( it was a soda, didn't bother to ask first). After "classy approach, " he advised me to buy a cup of coffee, only then I could sit there, because according to him the sidewalk belongs to them too. Way to go sir.

Absolutely delicious coffee served in a comfortable space. They always have a couple of newspapers for you to enjoy, and if you're a neighborhood local, you'll often run into someone you know. With the new pedestrian areas on South Broadway, ilCaffè effectively extends its seating into the street. Don't miss the tasty biscotti that are often stored in a jar on the counter.

Coffee 4/5 Bean 3/5 Consistency 3/5 Seat 2/5 Outdoor ready 3/5 Parking 0/5 Update...cappuccino was good today. Maybe, it depends who drips your coffee. Sometime, it doesn't have strong bean taste, somewhat diluted feel. Seating is limited and parking as well. There is no designated parking so you have to find empty street lot or pay for the expensive downtown parking lot.

I was in DTLA this past weekend and stopped here to get a quick coffee. I got the americano, it was okay. It was not pricy. It’s a cute little coffee place with sitting area inside and outside. I won’t go back for coffee tho, but I will go for something else on the menu.

Was NOT expecting that. It's freezing outside, I stopped in to grab something warm. Michael made a dirty Chai for me and OMG. It's the first one I've had in a long time and oooohmygosh. I thought I was gonna be able to sip and sit but was so delicious. Gone in seconds. And super cute with the heart foam and cinnamon at the rim. Highly recommended.

  • D O

Love this cafe! It feels like you've stepped into a coffee shop in Europe, Ive always had friendly service and strong Cappuccinos or cold brews. They have really good mozzarella basil and prosciutto panini's as well. Check them out! Almost forgot to mention they now serve beer and wine as well! Afterwork glass of wine? Don't mind if I do!

  • Jorge Schneider

The coffee house sits in an iconic building in downtown, yet the place needs a good cleaning, The service is not very friendly and the coffee is meh .. some said it's very European, if you have been to Europe, then you realize that this place is a lousy European cafe ever if some people working there or the owners are from Europe...

  • S I

TERRIBLE SERVICE. When I asked female cashier what kind of sandwiches they have, she pointed to the display case at end of counter. She told me to go read the tickets placed on each sandwich. I was embarrassed to bring coworkers here. We went to another restaurant down the street. I will never revisit this place. Ghetto employees..

Really cool spot to hang. Some sidewalk seating. I had a Gibraltar, which is my very occasional milky drink. They have a selection of non-dairy milks if that’s your persuasion. They also serve some food and pastries and are open later, which is a bonus!! I’ll update this once I’ve had their espresso on its own.

Friendly staff, nice sidewalk tables, fun crowd to watch, perfect espresso. Their sandwiches don’t look that good in the display, but I ordered one because I had no other dinner option before a show next door – and it comes out looking completely different after they press it. It was delicious.

Best almond milk lattes downtown. They also allow dogs inside and outside. Perfect place to grab a quick, fresh delicious sandwich on quality bread, made with excellent and fresh ingredients. Awesome gem on broad. Also... very delicious salads with the right amount of everything you want

  • Brenda Flores

Absolutely delightful! I got a latte and avocado toast and boy, each were positively splendid. Worth every penny. The toast is far from bland, with complimentary ingredients that brighten the flavor of the both the avocado and sourdough bread. 5 out of 5 stars.

  • Suzanne Gross

Great lattes and the staff goes out of their way to be nice and efficient. Fun to go to and they have a nice little seating area outside in front. The inside is really comfortable for reading the paper with your coffee in the AM. A good place to go and wake up!

Excellent ingredients, world class tastes and menu items, but the presentation puts them on top. Thier sourcing of the most freshest, vibrant & satisfying orange juice is uncanny. They are a niche coffee shop, but well rounded; and that's very Angelo.

"The" cafe in town. Incredible service, proper European-quality espresso. A touch expensive but it delivers on quality. Panini and pasty options (croissants) are great for a bite. Friendly environment with trendy people of all types.

Really. Good. Espresso and food. The parfait is excellent, the yoghurt is full fat and wholesome rather than watery, strawberries are fresh, waiters are attentive and actually speak Italian

"cool" place with very trendy/overdone exposed warehouse look. Prices for basic italian cold cut panini is exorbitant. Coffee is good, but just not worth the price. Wifi works well.
