Update: 5/1 - I was able to speak to the owner after this review was made and it's clear that she spoke to her employees and rectified this situation. She responded back to me in a way that was contrite and sensitive, and after walking into the business with my family, and the fact that they were treated with respect, I am going to change my review. ---------- Very cute shop, however, the clerk seemed to be rather unenthused with me not looking like the target audience of the establishment (white, thin, pretty, hipster - I am black, tall, gothic, and a little heavier), and she was smiling yet terse and kinda rude when she rang me up, and simultaneously friendly to everyone else. I get to deal with the microaggressive racism even as the shop has a 'Black Lives Matter' sign in the window. I got what I needed, though I'm sure I won't be back and I will likely not recommend this place to anyone else that I know.
Bought a bath product for $22 dollars when I showed the clerk that the online price was $19. Drove to the store to get something I could've gotten cheaper online on their own site...Jane (the person who "helped" me) didn't seem to care too much about this when I brought it up. Still ended up purchasing the product because my girlfriend really wanted it, but can't say I was thrilled about supporting this business. Update: Immediately after I left, I refreshed the page on their online store, and of course they remarked the price to $22. Newer Update: I was reached out by the store owner and she was able to refund me the difference in price. She was understanding and responsive about it so I am adjusting my rating thanks to Nina's ability to take care of her customers.
I've done at least a portion of my Christmas shopping at Take Heart for the last several years. Every time I do, they don't disappoint. I think this is a great spot for anybody who likes Japanese home goods or is into the wabi sabi aesthetic, so things like stoneware or goods that look handcrafted. Things here are pricey but everything in the store is beautifully made. There are lots of neutral tones in the items here, things like incense, candles, pottery, glassware, baby & child items, skincare, bath items, books, kitchenware, decor, baskets, etc. If you're trying to make your place more homey or welcome a new friend to town, this is a great place to shop.
One of the best shops I've ever been to. Nothing brings me more joy than small business behind which are people that pour their hearts into what they do. No doubt, this is one of those businesses. The selection of products is simply incredible. You can spend hundreds of dollars here if you wish because every product is so carefully, sustainably and tastefully selected that you'll be in awe or you can buy something small but equally nice for as little as $10. I got myself a small organic face towel for $7 and I absolutely love using it during my face routine.
Absolutely LOVED visiting this shop. The staff was incredibly kind and thoughtful in placing my bags from another store behind the counter while I visited the restroom. I also asked which products were Austin made (as distinct from Texas made) and was walked around the store discussing various items and the artists associated with them. I'd be at this store nearly ever week if I was a local! It's just too fun to walk around and look at all the amazing products. They also have Sunprints, which is one of my hallmarks for a top notch store ;)
One of the best gift shops I've seen in my life. From the outside, noticing the store items on wooden shelves through the big glass windows already catches my eye. Walking into the store, I was stunned by all the unique gifts. From Japanese scented candles, to tree log plant pots, to beautiful gift cards, Take Heart will leave you wanting everything in the store. In the words of Harry Potter on the Hogwarts Express "We'll take the lot!"
Such a beautiful and peaceful store. I go here to buy my favorite tea (Mint and white sage from Juniper Ridge). Aside from that, I always walk out with more in hopes of translating a bit of the peace from the store in my home. Items are priced fair and are well made (a lot of it homemade). There is plenty of street parking around the store and the staff are helpful (but also give you your space). Do yourself a favor and visit soon!
Happy I stumbled upon this shop during my Google search. I was looking to buy incense shaped as a spiral. After viewing their website I saw they carried a lot of brands that I order directly from. I decided to visit the shop in person after being impressed by the level of curation and the quality of products they had. You will not be disappointed when you decide to explore this cute shop in person.
What a delightful tiny store! There are lots of imported Japanese items loaded with CUTE! And lovely stationery, thank you cards, note cards, book marks, etc, etc. This is a great place to buy that special gift for that special someone. The staff was friendly and very helpful and their prices were reasonable for such high quality items. I loved the imported Japanese tea sets and place mats.
Peaceful and harmonious store with completely beautiful products. Most items are handmade and/or small batch, and everything is of the highest quality - materials, design, and functionality. Just a gorgeous place to browse and a lovely place for gifts as well. The majority of items are homewares but you'll also find baby items, some stationery, some bath items, and incense.
i simply love this place! a friend and i happened upon it one day while checking out some of the east austin flavor, and i was pleasantly surprised! the store is clean and contains just the right amount of inventory. i've met the owner's mom (who was working in the store) during both of my visits and she is just lovely. if you are looking for a quaint gift, check it out!
Very cute and well curated place on the east side. Perfect for like a Sunday brunch day to stop by after eating at th local spots around it. Across from paperboy and little neighborhood market spot. Really cool curation of hand made and interesting pieces. Local and international, lots of cool Japanese items. Nice staff and the perfect place for gifts.
I found this gift store on yelp before trip to Austin and I'm so glad I had the time to visit!! It's so cute and has an amazing collection of house, spa, baby gifts and more. The staff was super friendly and not pushy at all. I ended up purchasing two brass card holders that I'll use for pictures.
Nina and her sweet pup, Willa (sp?), are lovely. They were accommodating and friendly. I have no pictures of the inside because I was so overwhelmed and excited that I forgot to take pictures. There is an extensive array of incense, candles, and earthenware. Will update this again later.
A really great selection of items. The uniqueness and quality of the merchandise is very high, it is obvious that a lot of thought and care went into the finding of what to have available for sale and how to display it. The store environment is friendly. Awesome experience!
It has a lot of neat thing around the world for kids to adult. There are a lot of incense and holders from Japan and Mexico which are very fragrant in store. The local ceramic and jewelry artists also have a big collection there. We had a great time visiting the shop.
Beautiful store with high quality goods. Great for someone looking for meditation materials, natural skincare, and handmade Japanese home goods. Went on my birthday and it was a highlight of my day! The items are a bit higher in price but you’re paying for quality.
This is exactly what I like to see when shopping at boutiques. This place has a variety of unique items that are just cute and so well made. I love the local pottery, and many Japanese and Japanese inspired items throughout. Very aesthetically pleasing.
this is a lovely little store that can only fit a few people at a time. the owner, nina, was overjoyed to hold a conversation with us as we perused. there was a unique selection that was surprisingly inexpensive. i will definitely be going back soon.
Locally owned shop that is inspired by Japanese, minimalist culture! Everything in the store is beautifully curated and displayed. A good spot to pick up gifts - lots of home goods and even a small kid section. Parking is available around back!
I cannot stay away from this shop, it’s full of beautifully curated, handmade kitchen and home goods, ceramics, and more. Because of the high quality and handmade nature of these items, be prepared to pay a little more than you may be used
If I lived in Austin…I would come here all the time. (Like if this place existed when I was at UT) But I don’t … but I will always remember finding a.ok essential oil here. And so many beautiful products. A wonderful Austin shop not to be
Simplicity to inspire. I absolutely LOVE this shop. Incredibly thoughtful citation of all items in the store, and an incredibly helpful staff. So many perfect gifts for yourself and others, and home goods to create your own peaceful space.
Lovely shop (I’m a regular). That being said, I was disappointed to come across one of the clerks who kind of treated me like a nuisance when checking out. Kind of let me feeling upset, and made me regret putting my money into the store.
I'm in love with Take Heart. A beautiful collection of housewares, candles, body products and jewelry. This is my go to store every time I'm looking for a present for someone (or myself!). You will be amazed by what you find.
LOVED. Well curated with interesting and unique treasures. I could easily spend a lot of money, but only because I want to buy so many things. All in all, very reasonably priced gifts and objects. Truly design within reach.
I love this sweet store. It's a lovely peaceful shopping experience. Can't go wrong if you're looking for an affordable but thoughtful gift or an expensive treat! I always enjoy my stop here.
Beautiful shop with an excellent selection of well-made, lovely objects. I especially loved the ceramics. Can't wait to visit again next time I'm in Austin!
This is such a cool and simple little shop. Very exquisite. It's a great place to browse in and they have a wide variety of inspiring things to see.
Beautifully curated store with items ranging from handmade pottery, sustainably sourced incense, wholesome teas, reflective books, journals and more
The most special and unique objects from Japan. I've never been in a store quite as wonderful as this one. I literally wanted to buy everything.
Eclectic shop with a large array of handmade items, including jewelry, ceramics and household goods. Great for spot for finding cute gifts!
