The visa procedure is very difficult for many reasons. First, the visa section in their website gives a phone number, which never works. We tried for multiple hours each day, for almost a week - and it never worked. When we called another number of the consulate, staffs answered the call but didn't answer any questions on the phone. Rather, they directed us to send emails using the form available in their website. The downside of their email form is that the email is not sent if the characters in the mail exceeds a certain number; BUT they don't send us warning even if the mail is not sent. We waited for more than a week for a reply - before we realized that our email was probably never sent because it exceeded the maximum number of characters allowed. They must introduce a system where the email is rejected right away; otherwise the sender might never know their email was never sent because it exceeded the allowed numbers of characters. The only good part of their service was that they send a reply to the email, once sent, within one working day. The dates available are very limited, so the waiting time for a visa appointment is very very long. They required us to submit a lot of papers, even those that were not listed in their website. After the visa appointment, we submitted those additional papers later via post. THEN, they called us again few days later for some more papers. Why didn't they tell us during the first appointment? It added to our cost; and the process took longer than usual. The visa was printed so badly, the face in the visa was completely unrecognizable. During our travel to Germany, the security officer at the airport expressed doubts if the visas were authentic.

The online visa appointment system works, but appointments get booked ridiculously quickly. I recommend trying to book an appointment 2 months before your trip. Check early in the morning. I tried 6 weeks before but couldn’t get a slot, so I emailed them about the urgency of my trip; they called me when there was a cancellation. Much appreciated. Don’t fuss about the coin lockers; it’s simple. No electronic devices inside the consulate. Use the coin lockers by the Goethe Institute on the same floor or the Willer bus depot on the ground floor (in a pinch). There’s a change machine at the depot. Follow the instructions on the site carefully, but also bring proof of reserved accommodations and an itinerary just in case. Make sure your bank statements show sufficient funds for your trip. If you need an official document from friends/family in Germany, note that certain cities are busy with refugee processing. Request those months in advance of your trip. With complete documentation, I got my visa 2 weeks before my flight. It’s giri giri but shoganai. Visa procedures are always stressful at any consulate; they’re not paid to be friendly and certainly not expected to be flexible. The biggest challenge was getting an appointment slot. Always prepare for the worst. Good luck.

Erst hilfreich, dann stellt sich allerdings heraus dass die Webseiten veraltet/nicht aktualisiert werden und somit einige Dokumente fehlen. Motziger Ton. Scheint keine Lust zu haben zu helfen. Even for a german citizen not very helpful, they were responsive but it turned out the website is not being updated and that they need completely different documents than stated on the website. We had requested and translated everything on the website, and if we would need to request more documents that would mean our already prepared documents would expire (3 month deadline). So - in the end unhelpful and useless!

Bei diesem Konsulat fühlt man sich zum Glück wieder nach Deutschland zurück versetzt. Wofür ist eine Konsulat da? Dringende anliegen eines Staatsbürgers zu lösen. Dies scheint nicht möglich, man kann für dringende Anliegen nicht dort warten bis einem Geholfen wird. Weder kann man auf eine schnelle Emailbearbeitung erwarten. Dauert ca. 7!!! Werktage. Termine sind nur mind. 2 Wochen im Voraus zu buchen. Fun fact: eine deutsche Botschaft erhält nur alle 2 Wochen Post aus Deutschland.

Today appointments are available for the whole july, august and september 2023 for schort-term, schengen, visa type D, business visas. In short, a Telegram user nicknamed AlexRuCapcha arranged an appointment for me. If I evaluate the availability of this German embassy in Tokyo or Osaka, I will definitely put one star. 「理由もなく、コピー認証をしてもらえなかった」と、以前クチコミされているのを見て、流石にそんなことはないでしょう、政府機関なんだから。と思いましたが、私もそうでした！ 本当にしてもらえませんでした。ドイツ人のコピー認証担当スタッフが酷かった。。。 きちんと理由も教えてもらえず、手続きしてもらえませんでした。東京のドイツ大使館に確認したら、手続きは可能で、私が住んでいる地域は、管轄が東京のドイツ大使館ではなく、大阪のドイツ領事館なので、そちらで手続きを済ませてくださいと言われたのでそうしましたが、手続きしてもらえませんでした。 他にできる選択肢は、ドイツ現地に行くことなんだけど、本当に飛行機代20万円掛けて行けって言うの？ ドイツ政府の正式な機関が、ドイツの法律に則らないとは知りませんでした。。。

Tower Eastの35階に位置しています。婚姻のときと子ども登録で伺いました。ドイツ人担当のスタッフの方にはかなり根気強くご説明いただいて感謝しています。しかし、受付の対応が良くないと思います。入館の際に、裏にあるロッカーにスマホなどの鞄を預けなければなりませんが、小さい分かりづらい貼り紙を読んだか読んだか？としつこく聞かれます。意味不明なので、ロッカーはどこですか？など貼り紙の意味と聞いても、答えではなく書いてあるんです、読んでくださいしか言わず、会話のキャッチボールができませんでした。複数の入館者全員が困っておりその度に読んで！しか言わないので、皆戸惑って間違えていました。ロッカーは裏にあるので、必要書類以外の荷物を全て預けてから来てください、と言えば済むのに不思議な対応です。

You can’t bring your stuff ( phone , laptop) inside the embassy. It was difficult to find a coin locker . Luckily I found the one inside Willer Bus Waiting room ( near the powder room ). The staffs are nice !

The Japanese staff here think as if they are gods or something . They treat people really badly and they are so lazy. They didn't make me certified true copies without any reason

The male staff at the visa reception window was really friendly and thoughtful. Now it is not allowed to bring even smartphone inside - the locker is 200 yen at the same floor.

Easy to find. Staff are so lovely. Even with covid delays my visa procedure went relatively fast. Heads up about the lockers for your belongings, they only take 100 yen coins.
