Really terrible experience with this store. I placed an order online on Saturday morning for my sons birthday on Monday. Had a really busy morning so I sent an Uber to pick up. He gets there vans there was no order! I got on the phone with a lady with most lackadaisical attitude ever. She asked for the receipt, I forwarded that to an email she provided. She didn’t check the email instead claimed to be on the same phone with her manager. Uber driver left ( of course I still paid). No one called me back until I called again and upon my insistence she reluctantly checks the mail again, finally miraculously saw the receipt and says ok now we can either put it together or we issue you a refund. All of this said in a very “take it or leave it, I have no time for you tone” she had zero empathy to the fact I could no longer meet up lunch time at my sons school. Nothing! She simply offered a refund and said there are just two of us here. You might have the best pastries but with zero customer service , it’s a NO. Update: Drove down here at 12:20 and the employee said to me if “I only work here, if the owner didn’t drop a copy of your order then I am not going to go out of my way to find it” At this point, I realized there was nothing more to be said to an individual with this mindset!

I was in the Longfellow area one Saturday morning and realized how close I was to this bakery and since I've always wanted to go (I live in the NW metro so am not down here often) I had to stop. I had long read that this is considered one of the best bakeries in Minneapolis and think I agree! Plenty of delicious-looking and fresh pastries. Not too many people inside and the service was quick and friendly. We got a nutella croissant, pan au chocolate, almond croissant, raspberry danish and one snickerdoodle cookie. Everything was buttery, flakey and warm. The nutella was gooey, the pan au was very good, I did wish the almond croissant had more almond filling in it but it was still excellent, the snickerdoodle was the perfect cross between crispy and chewy and cinnamony but I think the favorite was the danish - it was so so delicious! Would I go back? Absolutely!

This place is amazing! I'm almost afraid to write anything good about it, because a typical weekend morning has a line out the door. But I can see why. It's best to visit during a weekday. Get the chocolate cake donut.....or the maple. It doesn't matter which cake donut, just get one! It's perfectly crisp on the outside with the perfect moist chew on the inside. If you arrive in the morning you'll probably need to vent the box because the donuts will still be hot. Yea, that good!! I've been going here for years, and they changed ownership a few years back (the original baker retired), but they still have the recipes. Everything here is good, and I've tried many items. Other favorites include tea cake, blondie, Mankato butter bar (something like this), cupcakes, turnovers......the list goes on and on.

I must say, a city bakery, tucked away, but easily found. Didn't try everything but had a oversized donut with filling...known as Boston Cream or Bismarck depending on where you are from. The thought of this oversized idea initially appealed to my glutenous early morning craving yet didn't live up to my expectation. The filling was loaded on one side and the other oversized side had no filling. So while everything tasted fine, the 1/2 cake donut which I expected cream was just a cake, the other side was a delight. You lost a star on that one. Otherwise I enjoyed the experience but would have preferred to pay cash but couldn't so atmosphere got less stars for that. Don't want to use my credit cards for donut purchases....

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. That means I hate that I love this place as much as I do! I happen to love donuts and danish. I stopped on a whim on my way out of town and grabbed a few items. The standout - the simple cake donut with chocolate frosting - no sprinkles. I cannot do justice to how amazing these are. They're fresh so there is a bit of a crisp to the outside of the donut. The inside has a delicate texture and tastes amazing. I cannot describe what happens when the chocolate frosting begins to melt on your tongue. This is THE place for the world-class cake donut with chocolate frosting. So simplistic yet that's why it works. It's not trying to be anything else but what it is.

For years, I used to drive by this place in the morning on my way to work. Upon smelling the, oh so, delicious smells of bakery, I longed to go there. Well, fast forward about 3 years and I finally did. My only question is, why did I wait so long?! This place is what you have in mind when thinking bakery. They have it all, and AMAZING donuts. Well, I had a paczky (posh-kee) with strawberry cream filling. Oh boy! That "donut" was amazing. It tasted like a strawberry shortcake! I believe real strawberries were used, and not just some flavoring substitutes. It was light and gooey, and again, oh so good. Needless to say I'll be adding this spot to my list of places to visit while on the southside!

Pastries are great, the spinach, feta, and egg croissant is incredible, and the hot drinks are good not great (they come from a machine)! I would avoid the cold drinks - the picture posted is what I got when I asked for an iced green tea with watermelon flavor. The green tea wasn’t brewed at all and the drink was just iced water. The iced black tea seems to come from a big container that was brewed for a time and then iced (and it tastes fine, still not great quality), but for the green tea they poured hot water over the tea bag and then immediately iced it. Still would recommend for pastries, but definitely don’t get any cold drinks!

This is my favorite donut shop in the Cities. The donuts are dee-lish! Prices are very reasonable & recently they extended their hours. I’ve also purchased a number of other sweets including a shockingly good gluten free mousse cake. Offering to take my kids to Baker’s Wife is one of the few ways I can get them up and ready to leave the house early in the morning.

I went to this bakery for the first time today. Got quite a few things to try. The pink frosting donut is something that would pair so well with a cup of coffee. The donut is not sweet with a sweet frosting. The white glazed frosting was delicious. We actually picked this one up for our dying senior cat as a treat. She agreed it was good. But,we also thought it was super good. I have more items i got to try and I’m excited! I’m also real happy they had a school bus cookie. I drive school bus, and there’s hardly anything for us. Also price was really fair. 10/10 recommend

We try to make a stop here every time we visit the twin cities - and judging by the amount of folks we always see walking in and out, that’s for good reason. I’m confident that everything they have on their menu is delicious, but always have stuck with a tried and true staple - the American tea cake. Enjoy it with or without tea, right out of the bag or heated in the oven, with your hands or utensils. It’s all good. You won’t regret the buttery, sticky, sweet goodness that is the ATC (American tea cake, as the aficionados call it)

  • Chris Montan

Oh my goodness, I was recommended to this bakery by a friend and oh boy they were not wrong! I was welcomed with a smile and a hello as soon as I walked through the door which is a terrific way to start a shopping experience of any kind. A vast selection in types of baked goods as well as varying flavors of each type. Prices are quite reasonable and most importantly everything I bought for my family was delectable. I highly suggest the chocolate cream paczki and pretty much any cupcake they make. This place is a bonafide gem!

I had an order messed up once, but it wasn't a huge deal, and I've had my order correct plenty of times. It's just kind of hard to see what you're getting and most things aren't labeled, so maybe double check before you drive away. I absolutely don't blame the workers, it's more an issue of how the cases are set up

I've only experienced the outside of this shop. My diet restricts my consumption of breads. Finding a great bakery would just make me sad. This shop is located across the street from a bus shelter I use from time to time, and Google asks me about A Baker's Wife every time. From the outside, it looks like a fine bakery, and I've considered going in. I might buy treats to share with my colleagues sometime. But I haven't yet. I'm giving them 5 stars for their exterior.

  • Jon Sry

Cake donuts were 4/10 but I saw a lot of people ordering them. Chocolate yeast raised 4/10. Apple fritters are 9/10 and the best I've had so far from a store with a good balance of apples and dough. I'd go back just for these. The carrot cake was 6/10. Frosting could be improved but the cake itself was great. Update: 10/23 I ordered the apple fritter again and it is a 1/10. The inside dough is raw. I'm downgrading my original rating.

Today while waiting in line at A Baker's Wife, I noticed that they had some packaged Wuollet Bakery items. I then found out that Woullet's has purchased A Baker's Wife. Hopefully this goes well for this neighborhood bakery. Everything looked really good. The dozen donuts that I bought were very good. The service was great This is a busy place on a Saturday morning. I love a good neighborhood bakery.

This is an exceptional hometown bakery, with some of the freshest baked goods I've ever sampled. Choices are a bit Limited, but much ties into the timing of your visit. Check it out, and forget about calories for a moment in time!

We had cakes and some drinks on a Saturday evening. The service was good. The cake slices we had definitely didn't taste good. The velvet cake had a weird truffle oil like smell to it that didn't really work. The chocolate cake was so hard, it felt like eating bar candy. Maybe their whole fresh cakes taste good. But I wouldn't recommend their cake slices off the counter. We were disappointed.

  • Becky Ritzschke

Orderd pies for Thanksgiving..picked up day before. Bannana cream pie had black bannas and didnt taste like banna cream. Apple pie had hard apples in pie. This is my 3rd time ordering from here and I also sent an email to the store about this and got no response.

I’m in love with your apple fritters. They’re my personal favorite and you nailed it with the right amount of apple chunks, plus the sweet & crispy combination for me. I can think of one other place in the metro that makes them like I love them…and your location is closer but still far enough away that I can’t eat them everyday…because it would be a struggle not to.

  • Robert Page

I just drive by this every so often but because I stop at the lights there Google thinks I visit the establishment. It looks busy, sometimes a line out the door. I never heard any complaints since I assume this place is wonderful. I highly recommend based upon my visual activity on the outside and it is a small local business. Please visit.

  • Dorry Hortillosa

We always get a box of donuts when visitors come to town. These pastries are iconic in South Minneapolis. We love the cake donuts and I'm not usually a cake donut person. The crispy edges and soft inside are what really make these so awesome. Plain or chocolate covered are what I get but I know lots of people love the maple flavor too.

  • Emileigh Stoll

Stopped by person the recommendation of a friend. I got the sausage, egg, and cheese croissant, which was very tasty. I will be back again to try more of the selection. I was also quite impressed specifically with their ice cream prices. In comparison to some other shops, their prices were competitive. I'll be back soon to try it!

  • T G

This was not a great first experience as everything I bought tasted like it was old. I will say that I definitely visited after 2pm. So I wasn't getting the freshest possible inventory but none of what we ordered was fresh. But the staff were really nice and I hope to be back some day to give them another try at an earlier hour.

  • Selene B. Orocio

We ordered a cake for my son's b-day we specifically show the person who was Taking our order the cake we show him the cake. So today we picked up the cake and they ended up giving us the wrong cake disappointed we had to take the cake since we had a b-day party with his friends and we needed a cake.

  • Josh Baltazar

I got an Apple Cream Cheese Danish, Raised Glazed Donut, Mankato Butter Bar, Tea Cake, Cinnamon Roll and Maple Pecan Danish. Everything tasted just as good as they looked but the Butter Bar really surprised me the most. I also really liked the Cinnamon Roll too, they put cream cheese in it which is very different!

  • Alison

Went here for a quick morning stop and I was in and out in 5 minutes. Basic selection of donuts, but they were great. Blueberry had great flavor- donuts are on the sweeter side.

They have the best cake donuts and are the only donuts my fiancé will stomach! The prices are so reasonable too. I’m so glad my coworkers talk about this place so much that I had to bring in a couple dozen donuts in and purchase a few for at home. Keep up the great work- can’t visit for another donut stop! :)

  • Thomas Schlosser

The American Teacake, which I understood to be their signature, had too hard of crust for my liking though the center was flavored & layered well. The custard in the Bavarian was really good! Wish there was more seating. It appeared several people had purchased donuts but were sitting at adjacent businesses.

  • Evans Lovdahl

I ended getting a coconut cake that hardly even had any coconut and didn’t even taste of coconut. It was covered by baking paper so you couldn’t see what was inside. It literally was just a cake with cream layers and coconut sprinkled on top. I took one bite and couldn’t eat the rest. Extremely disappointed.

  • Lilly Homstad

Got some cookies, bars and mini cheesecake for a party. Everything was delicious and eaten up so quick! Favorites were the chocolate chip cookies (huge), lemon bars and butter bars. They recently added ice cream to their menu! Staff were friendly and fast even though they were very busy. We will be back!!

  • Jordan Cataldo

A great selection of bread, donuts and bakery noms. Their breakfast croissants are fantastic, but sell out. Prices are a little high, but what isn't these days. Expect to wait 2 to 5 minutes because there is always a line. It seems like they don't have the same items everyday so show up and then decide.

  • Kara Mundy

This shop was super cute, and the staff was really nice. I thought all the desserts looked really good. I didn’t care for the salted caramel or dark chocolate cupcake, the snickerdoodle, the triple chocolate, or peanut butter chocolate cookies. I REALLY liked the tea cookie, and the oatmeal cookie.

  • Russell B

I stopped in the shop after driving by it many times, it was lovely. We had cake donuts and a cigar cookie both were very good, but the powdered cake donut was 10/10. I then ordered a custom cake and myself and my guests absolutely loved it. Tasted great and everyone is always so nice inside!

  • Sarah Blu

I love donuts and this place has them. The cake donuts are the best. Their yeast raised ones are above average and their filled ones are good but I prefer white cream to fruit fillings and they have fruit fillings. We really like their maple also. And the big novelty donut is always a hit

  • Hon Ki Cheung

The place has wonderful pastries and cakes. I just tried their fruit tarts and it was delightful. And they have the princess torte in green marzipan which definitely makes me feel like I'm in Sweden once again. The cake itself it very fluffy and light, and doesn't feel heavy at all.

  • Matt Gregg

It's all about the cake donuts, state fair is my fave, or chocolate frosted. Also the cakes are amazing. You can order online and I personally believe you can't find a better tasting sponge in the twin cities. I've had a lot of cake, bake a lot myself, nothing comes close.

  • Coppercat 8

They have excellent food and drink. A nice little local shop with quality products. There is no dine in area, and a small outside table with some chairs. Prices seem to be fair, for such a small business with quality food, it's appropriately priced. Helpful employees.

  • Rebecca Darling

Holy sheet, go here. Now. I got an English tea cake that blew my freaking mind. I got crumbs every where but it was absolutely worth it. I went for breakfast pastries, but they had a bunch of cookies and cupcakes as well. Wait was non-existent and service was perfect.

  • Francie Lee

First time coming here. I really enjoyed the breakfast croissant my friend and I got. It was buttery, and a bit flakey. The line was a bit long when we got there but it also went by quickly. The staff were kind as well. I will return when im in the neighborhood again.

  • Sean Lawrence

Good donuts and baked goods for their price. The coffee is pretty good too. I like their pumpkin donuts and frosted donuts with sprinkles are my favorites. The only thing I had from Baker's Wife I disliked was the cherry donut because it tasted to me like cough syrup

  • Matt SK

I normally love this shop but they totally jacked up their prices in the last month or so. $16 for 8 donuts? Some donuts are as much as $3 a pop. The idea of potentially spending over $36 on a box of DONUTS seems ludicrous. Sorry, but I think that's just a bit steep.

  • Jennifer Johnson

This cute little shop is near and dear to our hearts. They simply make the best creations and it’s so tucked away you would barely know it’s there. The Tea cake and fresh fruit tart are the highlights - seasonal danishes are also great - try the maple walnut!

  • Tatiana Crimmins

Tried a variety of croissants, cinnamon raisin roll with cream cheese frosting and cupcake with Italian cream frosting, and didn't like anything. Both frostings tasted like Crisco or inferior products. The croissants tasted day old. I wouldn't go back.

  • Mandi Peterson

Made a special trip here Saturday morning and unfortunately at 10:30am they were OUT of both the ham & cheese crossiants as well as the chocolate crossiants. Very disappointed. Visitors might want to call ahead and check on the inventory beforehand.

  • xavier frank

Definitely the best donuts I've had in the Twin Cities so far. Plus they have a wide variety of other pastries and desserts to choose from. The service is always quick and friendly. The only down side is that they only take credit/debit cards.

  • Stacey Scherer

I'm giving two stars not because of the quality of their product but because I went out of my way to visit their Bakery and when I got there I was informed they do not take cash. What? Who does not take cash? I know they were broken into a

The new (2016) owners have truly revitalized this gem. Donuts and pastries that rival anything else in town. Nothing unnecessarily fancy. Everything delicious. Quick and easy service. Open every day. Great breads and cookies, too!

  • Treasure Schunk

This is a weekly spot for us! Our spotlight is on the donuts. Love so many varieties, particularly the cake donuts, glazed raised, and American Tea Cake (like a donut, croissant and popover had a delicious baby). Friendly staff.

  • Kayla Cartwright

Dead fruit flies on both of our cream cheese danishes and I had a hair in my ham and cheese croissant. I called the shop and they only gave me a refund of $3.50 because I wasn’t willing to drive back over. I will never go back.

  • Nadesha Richardson

Yummy! The cake donut and fruit tart were our favorite. We weren't blown away but it was a yummy time. We spent $13.50 on 4 pastries. Make sure to ask for silverware if you need it- they don't put it in the bag.

  • Kevin Kuglin

We live a few blocks from Baker's Wife's Pastry Shop and we love their donuts! They also have great breakfast pastries. For donuts, I recommend an old fashioned with sprinkles, a maple frosted, or a morning bun.

  • brian b

These are some of my favorite donuts. I love the cake donuts here. They are appropriately priced and always fresh. They have a variety of other baked goods as well. The carrot cake was a hit with my family.

  • Mary Ann McNeil MA

I just stopped by on my way home from work and purchased 3 of the BEST cake doughnuts I’ve ever eaten! Got my husband 2 chocolate croissants. He agrees! Wow! We will never go anywhere else again! Thank you!

  • Ebony Elsa

First visit, won't be my last...The plain glazed was amazing and I had a huge croissanty-buttery-sweet-crusty pastry that I'm going back for!!!...The young ladies that work there were all very sweet to us!

  • Jake Gehler

What can I write in a review that already hasn't been said? Well... the donuts are amazing and the quality stays the same. We keep coming back for the sprinkles... sprinkles on everything please

  • Krystle

Great place and fairly friendly staff. I say fairly because part of the staff was friend who were assisting. I tried to just be nice to the others and just kind of looked at me.

  • Dillon Sailer

Pricing is well worth what you get. Great variety! No vegan options for pastries from what I saw. Would be a huge plus if they added a few. Coffee has milk alternatives.

  • Aid Azizi

It was my first and last time! I will not be going back. Just got an iced latte and donut! The latte tastes horrible and the donut crusty. Would not recommend.

  • Laura Avina

Love this place! Their donuts are great! My boyfriend really likes the state fair donuts. I really like their apple fritters. Their raised donuts are good too.

  • Paul Esslinger

This place has been a south minne institution for a while now! The famous American tea cakes are not quite what they were but they are still delicious.

  • Mark Bailey

This bakery is AMAZING. I can't get enough of the maple cake donuts. Everything here is delicious, and the prices are exceptionally reasonable.

  • Ten Mil

Love the donuts and Drinks. I picked up a dozen donuts and every one of them tasted heaven. Staff was friendly and services was real nice.

  • Shoumit Karnik

Great set cakes, cupcakes. Oh and amazing donuts, one of the best and few donut places in Minneapolis. Check it out when in the vicinity!

  • Eric Hancy

The cake donuts here are probably the best cake donuts I have every had and I'm not sure if it is possible to improve on this.

  • Andrea Hannem

I’ve been getting donuts for my work free every Saturday for the last 8 years. The donuts are phenomenal! Cash only under $5.

  • Jodie Zins

Best cake donuts I have ever had in my life!!! Please pass your recipe on, way to good not to share! Best price as well.

Expensive..cupcakes good but I have had better...kind of dry. I would like to go back to try other stuff though.
