Hands down the most wonderful, down-to-earth bookstore in the Austin area. The energy in the store is so welcoming and peaceful, as well as the workers! I feel very happy knowing this store is so close to where I live and work, it truly feels like a safe space anyone can walk into for 10 mins or an hour and feel enveloped by literature from all walks of life. The selection is truly amazing. You will certainly find many books that you never imagined yourself even perusing for, which is the fun part of stopping into a bookstore. You can really tell whoever curates the selection for the store has a true passion for what they do. I was most blown away by their poetry section, as that is something I am recently getting into. They had a very diverse selection of poetry. In particular, they have quite a large selection of haiku for a bookstore of their size. I was able to pick up a wonderful book on the collected works of Matsuo Basho, something I didn't even know I was looking for before I came in! Definitely stop by (:

Like many, I was really bummed when Malvern Books decided to close their doors. AMB has reopened a fantastic bookstore in the same location and I think they have improved upon what Malvern was. I like that they carry books from so many small publishers and there isn’t a coffee bar or a bunch of knickknacks displayed everywhere. Lots of amazing books and very very helpful staff. Please go! ps there is a cafe in the same shopping area if you need coffee (they close early though).

amazing staff, amazing selection, beautiful staging and set up of the store. in a place like austin that claims to be progressive/punk/against injustice alienated majesty seems to be the one business that means it and takes a stance (as all bookstores should!) it is refreshing and beautiful. highly recommend. (also if youre looking for a truly amazing poetry selection this is where you need to be)

What a fabulous experience...the smell of fresh press finds you as soon as you open the door. ("Hi, Sara!") Intimate, yet open to the unique, the different, yes, and as the tagine implies, even the lost, Alienated Majesty is the place I chose to spend my birthday. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best. Find some time to open the door - and a book - and maybe even a new perspective at Alienated Majesty.

A really wonderful and diverse selection of books. Everyone on staff has always been so thoughtful and friendly. It’s clear they’re all passionate about the store’s mission, and I’ve never gone in here and not walked out without some cool new book that a staff member directed me to.

Great new addition to the Austin book scene! Great, thoughtful curation. Fantastic selection of poetry, in particular, and books in translation. And on top of that it's a special place with a great staff and a cozy sofa for hanging out.

I absolutely adore Alienated Majesty Books and how they've created a beautifully curated space and wonderful selection of books! It's my go-to place for not only books, but my favourite author notebooks!

What a wonderful bookshop in Malvern's old location! Loved the new shelves and particularly enjoyed the expanded selection of books. Can't wait for book club and events here. Long live the bookshop!

The selection of books is stellar. Nearly every book i pick up is compelling. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They also host some incredible events.
