I was having such a horrible frustrating time building my computer and didn't know why I couldn't install windows 10. I spent days trying to figure out what was happening so I called up altex told them my problem so they told me to bring it in. They had a special to look at the computer for free to see what's wrong and found the problem the hard drive. So I went and bought another one then tried it again and then another problem so I called back letting them know and told me to come back in. Turns out I bought another bad hard drive. But they fixed everything for me and installed windows 10 no problem. They are very honest people didn't try to sell me on a bunch of junk like some places will. I will come back again for my next build and any problems I come across again ****UPDATE**** I did what I said I would do when I got the parts for my dream computer I went to altex to have them put it together. Walked in told them I needed a CPU fan and a USB wifi. They showed me some good options that I was very happy about and went ahead and bought them, both were very good prices for what you get. The day came to pick it up it was all sealed up in the computer case box. The guy told me that the motherboard has built in wifi already so I didn't need the USB so he refunded me the money no problem. Once again he was very honest with me and could of just still sold me the part I didn't need but didn't. When I got home it was like Christmas to open it and when I saw the work the guy did for me (I forgot to ask permission if I could use the gentleman name so I won't) I was very shocked on how he did everything with the cable management so you hardly see any wires. It looks very clean something like you would see online for display or at a store. He built the computer as if it was his own. The experience I had there I tell everyone I know how helpful and honest they really are. So if you have a problem and worry about being ripped off like I was at first you have nothing to worry about with altex. They have earned my trust and for now on if I have any problems I know who to go to.

Highly competent staff, friendly, professional. Here's my experience dealing with them. I have been assembling my own PCs from parts since my very first computer, a 486 DX50. For desktop systems anyway, I don't think I've ever once bought a pre-made system from a manufacturer; the big PC companies always seem to skimp on something I find important (things like putting in super-slow RAM), or load the PCs with so much bloatware that I end up reinstalling the OS from scratch anyway (I've observed this often with the laptops I've purchased). A couple of years back I had some stability issues for a machine I put together (the problem ended up being an incompatibility with the AIO cooler I was using and the motherboard). After many frustrating hours of futzing with it, I took it to Altex, paid them of course, and they were able to diagnose and fix the problem (in the end I got rid of the MB I was using). For my next PC (I plan building a Zen 4/RDNA3 setup when the parts are released at the end of 2022), I plan on purchasing the parts from Altex and letting them perform the build for me. It will save me time and frustration, support a local business that employs local Austinites, and I know than I can trust them to build it properly.

Worst customer service. Just needed a simple M.2 NVMe M key USB card reader. TL:DR After traveling four times to this location, wasting an entire day's work and 1/2 tank of gas, The staff told me they don't even carry the item and/or don't exist, then banned me from the store when I expressed my displeasure about the repeat misinformation and inconvenience. Altex sold me the incorrect item, four times. When explaining how much of a major inconvenience this entire process was, the staff gas lit me about the issue. The store owner/manager told me the item doesn't exist. The other employee whined at me about how they don't make 300k a year and how could they couldn't possibly know every product available. When I explained I already have one and needed another one, they made it very clear they don't carry this item. With that attitude from the store owner, I again voiced my valid opinion of the experience and how this entire process is a waste of time. I was then refunded and banned from Altex. Altex caused this entire issue, failed to deescalate the situation. You backed your staff even when it was clear you were in the wrong. Then banned me after I voiced my complaint. Terrible behavior from their leadership team.

Pro: The place was nice and tidy, the staff was nice, and it was easy to find. Con: Prices were definitely marked up. They were selling a G4500, not a G4560, for $80? Also a 750ti for $140 It's 2017, you can often purchase a 1050ti for $140, and always a 1050 for less than that. Store wasn't very well stocked, a lot of empty shelves. Store doesn't price match either. Conclusion: I would give it a 2.5 starts if I could, but definitely not 3. I would go here if I needed a part RIGHT NOW and if it was cheaper than the Fry's up the street, which it probably wouldn't be. They definitely need to re-adjust their pricing or at least price match. I was hoping to find a neat place that had deals here and there, but I just found a place that wants to hike up prices on a lot of items to try to make a little extra overhead.

Want to express my sincere gratitude to Rey Barrera and Altex Computer & Electronics for their help on a problem that could have crippled my business. Six year ago I purchased a Western Digital Sentinel DX4000 storage server from Altex. Western Digital has since been discontinued the product and was only supporting it by e-mail. Recently the server’s OS became corrupted and I was unable to access any of my 8 TB of data. You can image my terror. While I understood what needed to be done, I lacked the technical skills to do it. That’s where Rey helped me out. Rey was working on my machine within 30 minutes of my call. And within one hour Rey had restored the OS and the drives began the process of repairing themselves. Thank you Rey and Altex.

Drove from Ben White Blvrd during rush hour to get a fuse for the charging cord on my sister's portable oxygen concentrator. Cost: $2.50 for 2. They were literally the only place in town to carry these fuses. We were 45 minutes from home not during rush hour and this critical piece of equipment fails. For a fuse. Thank God that Altex Computer is in business. My sister has COPD. She can't breath without oxygen anymore. So they saved her life, sort of. Her machine was at 40% power by the time we got to them. If they were not there, we would have had to order the fuse online. And wait. And she would not have been able to leave the house. Even for a walk. Or to visit me on the other side of the driveway. So Thank You Altex! You are my hero!

I have been driving past this place for years and never stopped, I wish I had. If you like fixing gadgets, making gadgets or just tinkering with gadgets, this is the place to go. Prices are very reasonable, I did some comparison shopping online and was surprised that their prices were pretty close. Staff was friendly and knew his stuff and when he didn't have an answer, he was quick to say so instead of trying to wing it, much appreciated. If I had known about this place years ago, I would have been coming here instead of wasting time at Frys. I will be going back to see what other gadgets they have that I really don't need but have to have.

  • Charlie davidson

I highly recommend Altex . They are the best in sales and service with price matching even within their own store . The are knowledgeable and friendly, most employees have been working there for over 10 years . I went in for a video driver card and they installed it and loaded the updates for free . 99 times out of 100 I walk away with what I needed and often paying less than online . Altex carries what I call grade 1 products . Example I purchased a Weller soldering iron station WES51 on Amazon for 95.00 when I received it failed and then the replacement failed I went into Altex they price matched it and it worked perfect;y .

  • Colton Matocha

The folks at Altex helped me out and didn't even charge me! So, I brought in a motherboard which I had purchased on Facebook marketplace and which had been damaged in shipping. One of the plastic pushpins holding a heatsink down had snapped off. The people at Altex found a replacement pin in their spare supplies that would work and installed it for me at no cost. I didn't even buy this board from them, but they helped me anyway. Huge thanks to the staff. I have shopped here several times before and I will continue to be a customer! People are what make a place great and Altex definitely has helpful people!

  • Robert Dinaro

I walked in and was immediately greeted by someone who knew the store and the inventory well. They didnt have what I needed but in their defense I am searching for pretty outdated circuits. They do have a large well stocked selection of everything electronic. I ended up at latex because Frys electronics(which is around the corner from where I live) is empty for weeks now. They claim to be restructuring but seems more like they are foing out of business. Altex is now my spot to go for electronics and parts for my projects

  • Kevin McKeown

Great place to get everything electronic - computers, networking stuff, TV accessories. It's like a radio shack on steroids, if your a gadget geek you got to check those place out. Awesome online ordering process to help you confirm they have your desired item before you head over there. I got a ceiling TV mount, they were they only store in Austin with one in stock and I checked all the big name box stores before I found Altex. Easy access right off the I35 service road. I will be going back for sure.

  • Mary Ann Nowland

Since 2004 in San Antonio, I have purchased computers, peripherals, and services from Altex, including a custom built PC. I now live north of Austin and continue to shop with Altex. This is a great company with competitive prices and outstanding service. I want to thank everyone who has helped find the right products over many years. Recently, Nick assisted me in finding service and products for a family member. Thank you for the best customer service in the local retail computer market.

  • Jacob Ortony

Drew is outstanding. I watched him help a customer in front of me with patience, understanding, and a strong moral compass. The customer he helped was unsure of what he needed, had very little understanding of technology, and was willing to drop money on tech he didn't need. Drew steered him to better understand, clearly and calmly, to the best path forward to get what he wanted without spending excessively. I could write an essay on that single transaction. Edit: grammar =)

  • Ruben Sanchez

Not a place worth shopping for unless you need specific IT tools. -Computer hardware is not priced competitively. Instead some items see a 30% increase in price compared to online listings. - Do not price match. This is a corporate level decision and employees are unable to do anything about that. - the stated to another customer that they are unable to keep things available due to low volume orders. Best to get your hardware needs online and on other sites.

  • Mikey Weiss

I can’t say enough about Altex. I had a huge laptop issue that was very complicated. Rey Barrera helped me out from start to finish. Long story short, I had over 6 months of work that was salvaged on my laptop. He also helped me put that information on a new laptop. He saved me money and time. This was my first time at Altex, but I will be continuing to use them for any services or repairs. Thanks again for the help Rey and Altex!

  • cannotdraw

great selection of speciality computer and electrical installer technical tools, items you won't find anywhere else locally, just a little on the more expensive side and the fact that they're only open for what's basically bankers hours, closed on Sunday even, are the only draw backs to Altex. if they were just 20-30% cheaper, i would buy things here instead of online, because i really do love the atmosphere and items available.

  • Murphy’s Law Jack Pads

I had a 3d printer plug issue that was driving me crazy, the employee meet me at the door and asked if I needed help so I showed him the pigtail plug and told him what it went on. Sadly they do not carry parts or sale the printers but he said he would go look in the backend found the exact plan g I needed. I'm so thrilled and will continue to shop here . Awesome to see good customer service still exists.

  • Amy Belflower

We reached out to Altex for help with getting a custom cord built for a machine we had. I can't say how they do building custom cords because we were able to find a used cord for sale from someone who had the same machine. However, the customer service I received was exemplary and I highly recommend their services and will be a loyal customer for life because of the attention and care we were provided.

  • Poke Mon

Impossibly arcane phone system leads to terrible sales assistance. If I want an 800 sales line, I'll call that. If I call the STORE, connect me to the store, dammit. >:-( It's sad that all of my local radio shacks were put out of business by this behemoth that fails to meet the needs of hobbiests. I guess I need to go in and have a confab with the management. sigh At least they're not Fry's! ;-p

  • Ed Olvera

Absolute garbage service from the entire staff. Management or supervisor included. If you wanted me to wear a mask all you had to do was ask and I would have put one on. Flat out lying or not even bothering to check to see if you had a specific item in stock because Management and staff were being hauty about me not wearing a mask? Do better Altex. Your franchise is not exactly thriving.

  • christian dieterle

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. First, they had the CAT6 connectors, crimping tools, and continuity testers in stock and at a fair price. Second, they showed me how to use them. With their guidance, my first long run CAT6 cable worked on the first try. They showed me some tips and tricks that positioned me for success. It is a pleasure to speak with a staff that knows their stuff.

  • Chelsea Oheim

Everyone at Altex is extremely helpful and nice. I brought my computer in, not knowing what was wrong with it, and they helped me troubleshoot the issue very quickly. They were able to get my data off my computer in case it crashes and also got it up and running again. Shout out to Jason who helped us, he’s great. Great prices, great customer service - highly recommend! We’ll be back!

  • Phillip South

Every time I come in I leave happy. Are they THE cheapest place? No. But always reasonable. And much better cable prices than Office Depot or wherever. Always friendly. Always expert assistance swirling around without sticking to you like used car salespeople. Always quick checkout. Always a great place to get tech business DONE. Thanks Altex. You’ve been great through the years.

  • Scott Mayes

This is not Best Buy, it is definitely not Fry's, and it is not a replacement for Radio Shack. No, Altex has found a happy medium, a melding if you will, of the best parts their competitor's. Looking for a liquid cooling solution for your overclocked CPU? Come here. Do you need to convert video connector A to B? Come here. Need memory, a graphics card, an m.2 SSD? Come here.

  • Exotic Power

My work laptop and issues with the hard drive and memory card, it also dropped some USB drivers. It was critical that the machine was repaired and none of my data was lost. The technician upgraded my drive and memory card, saved all my data, and cleaned the machine in the process. The service was very timely, the charges were reasonable and the machine has never run better.

  • Mark Sheffield

Hard to find a place with a better in stock selection of computer bits and pieces. I"ve also found that they have the best prices on ethernet cable. You have to be careful what you buy as a lot of the cable that is sold online is copper clad aluminum, but Altex still sells the solid core copper. Don't go cheap on your cable, or you will regret it in the long run.

  • Mike

I came to purchase some ethernet cables and switches from Altex. Unfortunately, I had a sports injury and needed crutches, so shopping has been a bit difficult. Drew W. came to the rescue at the door by walking me to the right sections, helping me pick up the things I need, checking me out, and carrying everything out to my car. That made my day. Thanks Drew!

  • Daniel D (cakstx)

If you are looking for a fully stocked electronics store in Austin this is it. They have a great selection of supplies for hobbyist like hand tools, cables, passives (through hole) and basic equipment (soldering irons and multimeters). They carry some great brands too Wiha, Klein, Fluke and Weller. Staff are also very friendly and know the store well.

  • Chris Holton

Great stuff for special and specific needs. Sometimes a bit pricey but for us instant gratification impatient people the access is worth the cost. They have also give our of their way for me personally on items I had difficulty with and it was not for them to take on however, I was taken very good care of and miss only the normal hours before COVID...

  • Tim Cone

This store is great. If you are into computer building or repair, security systems, or really anything to do with electronics you need to check them out. They have all the parts and tools you need and the staff are really helpful. We got a soldiering station and all the associated equipment as well as specialized tools for working on videogames.

  • Duncan Robertson

Absolutely Great Service !!! I am recovering from Spinal surgery & (unfortunately) having to use a walker. Limited to how l9ng I can stand. Salesman showed me to a chair & we took our time configuring a new Win11 compliant Desktop PC. No rush, no hurry - very pleasant interaction. Didn't make me feel uncomfortable, at all. Great Service !!!

  • Kevin Calman

It's refreshing to see how well Altex is doing under COVID restrictions, when for the last several years, it appeared that Fry's would suck all the air out of their market. I am glad to have a dedicated professional IT equipment source in town, not subject to the whims of the consumer market, for when you need you need that part RIGHT NOW!

  • Abc

Took my pc in after frying my motherboard and they did a fantastic job of replacing everything, they installed a new case, power supply and motherboard, the cable work was fantastic and they were able to transfer everything from my old hard drive to a new one I purchased, overall amazing experience and couldn’t have asked for more!

  • Daniel Huang

They carry some tools and parts that are hard to find around town otherwise. If you're building a computer or a rack of electronics, this is a good place to start if you need components, equipment or tools. Pricing is not as good as you might be able to find online, but if you need it today, they may be your best choice.

  • Greg Keller

If Fry's had a smart little brother who kept a good focus on just computer stuff it would have been this gem. Staff was nice, had entry mid, and top tier cases and a few of everything a Computer guy could want (well, maybe not GPUs). Prices were equivalent to Amazon so no premium to get it off the shelf yourself today.

  • Mitchell Tolbert, CBO

It’s so much like how tech stores used to look like. Now with online stuff, you don’t get much of places like this. You can actually brows and put your hand on An item to get a feel for how big it is and whether or not it looks right. I like this place really nice people at the counter that are always very helpful.

  • Travis

They have been around forever but I hadn't been by in years. I found they haven't missed a step. Walked in, was greeted, told him what i needed, was shown several options and had my questions answered. Walked to the front with him and paid, took less than 10 mins. They even took my old part so it could be recycled.

  • Larry Greene

Awesome place with an old school look and feel. Sort of like Frys and Radio Shack merged without the appliances and stereos and crap. If you need connectors, cables, computer parts, then this is the place I was very impressed. I did not have to search for help, and everyone seemed pleased to help.My new first stop!

  • Roger Weiselogel

Today was my first time at Altex. I stopped in to purchase a computer case and some cables. The staff was friendly and professional. The selection of PC components was good. However, the prices are about 10% - 20% higher than online competitors. Also, Altex doesn't price match, a fact the cashier apologized about.

  • Brandon Maddox-Nelson

I went there needing a new data cable for my router since my puppy chewed my old one. They instantly knew what I needed and special made a new one just for me. That price for a new 7ft cable made just for me was $6. At&T wanted to charge me for new equipment and make me wait 4 days. Absolutely excellent service!

  • Alexander Price

Was running late, got there right at closing time. The staff was not only super flexible, but incredibly friendly and helpful. I didn't know what type of crimping tool I needed, and they were able to find it for me, while being outstanding friendly. 10/10, will return if I need further electronics supplies.

  • Steven Polunsky

I've had good luck finding a variety of supplies for radio and computer here. I have also sought their advice and had them custom build some cables, cords, and parts, and they do an excellent job in a timely manner. They are on the southbound frontage road of IH-35 south of Braker, with plenty of parking.

  • B K

Pretty cool store, But in this competitive market, they are way over priced and do not price match. disappointing really. I do believe in supporting local businesses but not at the cost of overpaying. just to point out though the employees are pretty nice and helpful. 3 stars, not matching and pricing.

  • Big E

The staff is always eager to help here & everyone I have ever spoke with was quite knowledgeable. If you are a DIY type or own a business and need an account for your field techs to make purchases, they have it covered. The process aren't too bad either, especially for specialised computer parts store.

  • John Powell

These guys not only helped me through the purchase of my first build, but when I ran into issues they provided assistance free of charge at every turn. I can not recommend this store highly enough. Their merchandise is diverse and can meet any specification or goal. See them. You will thank yourself.

  • John

This Is one of the best computer stores! Great selection of product, good stock quantities and the STAFF! Absolutely top-notch! Seriously, they have some of the most knowledgeable and helpful staff I have ever experienced. I would absolutely recommend this store for your local computer needs!

  • Zac Collier

These folks did me a huge favor today. I needed a bootable USB to install Windows and they let me just bring one in from home to set up in the shop for free, didn’t even make me buy one or anything. I bought a peripheral I needed anyhow just to give them some business. What a great spot!

  • Moe Breezy

They have everything you need on premises and you don't have to wait for the mail to probably loose it (#SNAILMAILSUX). But if buying online is your thing they have super fast Shipping UPS or Fedex. Before you buy from Flea-Bay or Scamazon look here first you wouldn't be disappointed!!

  • Herman Soriano

I love this place. I'm old schooler that used to get electronic parts from radio shack(rip) now Altex has most of my electronic components to build/fix projects. Computer parts are available also here. The pricing is great and the people that work there are helpful/knowledgeable.

  • D M

Always super helpful staff that knows their products well. Today I lost my laptop charger. I came in and was instantly greeted and walked to the chargers. He even let me try it out first to make sure it worked properly. Sold! $30 well worth it and I got back to work right away.

  • Emily Hoffman

Needed a power cord for my dvd player and was having a hard time finding a fit. Jason went out of his way to find an extra adaptor that fit the dvd and then saudered the wire to it. Saved the day because Frozen was stuck in there. My toddler was very happy …

  • Vaughan Scott

I've been shopping at Altex for decades. They have a good and broad selection of cables, electronic hand tools, computer accessories, home theater, and electronic project supplies. The staff is helpful, and know where items are located. Prices are reasonable.

  • Race Chapman

Good inventory and knowledgeable, helpful employees. Great experience for me. I got the wrong product at first because of my own error, and they were super helpful and happy to exchange for the right one. I will be going here over Fry's from now on for sure

  • Thai Neel

Google Maps routed me here when I typed in Fry's Electronics. Whatever they did to pull that magic out of a hat is unacceptable. I wouldn't walk into their building if I was paid to. Save your time and money and check an online vendor like Newegg.com.

  • Simon Lucas

Great Place! Prices are typically competitive or better than the competition. Their stock on hand may not be as deep or wide, but neither is their BS. What you're really getting is old fashioned knowledge and understanding from your salesperson.

  • Kalon Wiggins

These guys had a replacement ac adapter for a cisco phone that I thought I'd be waiting a week for in the mail. These guys had it in stock! Could not believe it. They're great and they have a solid selection of top quality stuff. Check them out.

  • Rich Gary

Wanted to buy a GPU off of them until I found out they don't price match. no wonder their prices are still so high, you're better off shopping online or going to micro center if you can. Shoot I think even best buy has better prices. Greed smh

  • Jon Watson

Special shout-out to the team at Altex Computer very knowledgeable great customer service and awesome pricing Jason is the best!! Took his team with me getting me the gaming and streaming rig I always wanted definitely go check them out!!!!

  • Alex Fender

Excellent customer service and a great electronics store. Jason the assistant manager went over and beyond to help me with a tech problem. Im very thankful for his help and was desperate the day I stopped in. I will be a loyal customer now!

  • Patrick Thrasybule

took my workstation in to get repaired, just didn't have the time to work on it myself. i could tell the staff knew their stuff and kept me updated on what was going on. i gotta tell you when you need it done right this is the place to go!

  • Shubha & Prady Mahale

I visited the Austin store for laptop battery issue. James LcBlanc, sales associate and London Henning, technician provided valuable assistance. I think, I wouldn't have gotten the same service in any other store. Not only they diagnosed

  • jacob boyer

The employee was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all my questions. The employee actually built my Pc for me as a courtesy and as nice as that was. Upon further research I quickly realized that I overpaid for every component.

  • Gregg Vossler

Staff was very helpful, and a return I had to make was a painless process. They have pretty much anything a Field Engineer or Cabling Technician would ever need. Now that Fry's is closed, this is my go-to store as an IT-professional.

  • Luke H

This place has everything! I’m from WI and we don’t have these, although I wish we did. There’s nothing else like it. Electronics, tools, connectors, bulk wire, networking gear, you name it. Staff is super friendly and helpful too.

  • Tye “Don Treyvon” Sanders

Good item selections. Buy Texan! Friendly and helpful. Someone always available to help with your needs. Free coffee and access to the employee break room too! They might work with you on the price of you are spending a lot!

  • Tom Tate

Good electronics store with a large variety of stock. Only wish they had a selection of electronic components like resistors, capacitors etc. Still I recommend if you know electronics as an alternative to purchasing online.

  • John Hazmat Haddad

Always professional, knowledgable and courteous. Good selection of high end wire, tools and electronics. Not the best pricing, but really good if you need connectors, tools, wire, components, or any IT equipment right away.

  • Faye Bell

Altex is awesome. They are good souce for all the tech supplies. Now they are not mouser/allied/digikey. But they do have solder tools and supplies. They also have some components. There bulk cable is really well priced.

  • K B

I haven't used their online store, but I have been in here twice. I am extremely pleased with the speed and service of this place. They have known exactly what I am talking about and what I need. Will go here again.

  • Sid Manly

These guys are awesome. I needed a replacement mounting bracket for an AM4 socket and the screws, called them and they had extras laying around in their misc. parts. Saved me a huge headache of waiting for amazon.

  • Andrew S

This is one amazing place. As soon as you walk in the door, the staff asks you if you need help. Staff is knowledgeable and walks you to the product you need. The prices are very reasonable, better than Beat Buy.

  • David Heineke

A good place to get the kinds of things you used to get at Fry's when they were still open. Very limited hours, check before you show up. I have to take time off of work if I'm to have a hope of shopping here.

  • Jerry Rangel

They have most tools and parts you need for a PC build daily and in stock. Sure, their prices aren't the most competitive at times, but when I needed a fan hub splitter I didn't have to wait 2-3 business days.

  • Morgan Haining

I work as a local business oriented consultant IT firm. This is one of the few places left to find good pricing on network build-out projects. The staff is friendly and helpful and are always happy to see me.

  • David Powell

Still a good store to buy many electronic parts of various types from. They have really good tools and a wide array of networking, CCTV, Telephone and computer accessories. Staff is helpful and friendly.

  • D3C!PH3R 339

Great place, I found 3/4s of the components + case and motherboard. Only thing they didn't have in storage was the gpu and the cpu I was looking for, highly recommended for first or next computer build.

  • Robert White

Great selection of tools and parts/components. Needed a long ethernet cable and they stood the at the counter and made one for us. Great resource to have in your back pocket, can you open one in KC?

  • Anthony Potts

Great store. They have everything in stock for the hobbyist to the pros. Their staff are always nice and knowledgeable. Very experienced crew. Reasonable prices and a great selection to choose from.

  • Just Bojack

Great place. I upgraded my RAM for my laptop from here at a very reasonable price. Later, I needed to replace some screws in my laptop and they just gave me extras they had in the back for free.

  • zachary moreno

Staff is Amazing! This would be Altex strong point. It was my first time going there. The only issue is the price is a little high but I would pay for that since the service was great. Thank you

Went in to find a Raspberry Pi and left empty handed. I found one, but it was a 4gb model for the price of an 8gb model. $5-10 over, sure I'll pay for the convenience, but $20 is kind of steep.

Great place for electronics hobbyists. First place I look, saves me a trip hunting for parts elsewhere. Not many of these types of places left in Austin, so check it out and help keep it going.

Altex has enthusiastic, knowledgeable employees, ans quality tools that are otherwise only available by mail order. Support these stores, lest we no longer have the luxury of access to them.

  • Andrew Dangerfield

Staff is very informative & helpful. I had a PC that was in need of a new motherboard and was able to make an educated purchase with affordable, talented installation on hand. Thanks, y'all.

  • Unni Krishnan

The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They even opened up my unit and matched it with the right parts and gave great suggestions. It all worked out so well thanks to their assistance.

They hang up on you every time! I really want to love my electronics stores, but all the good ones went out if business. Even Radio Shack had better customer service than what's left. Sad.

  • Kurt “TEX” Chumchal

Had an issue with my PC and they were quick to determine what the problem was. They installed my new motherboard and my new CPU. Definitely coming back when I have more upgrades to do.

  • Ashleigh C

They knew exactly what we needed and got it to us quick! Awesome experience, super friendly and helpful staff, and great prices that are unbeatable. We will definitely be going back!

  • Nick Wade (Hathsin)

This place may be smaller than Fry's, but it certainly works as a good replacement for getting in store PC parts. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are on point and ready to assist.

  • Mary Beth Eastwood

Fast, honest and efficient. I've been here several times needing help with a computer and a laptop. Quickly fixed the issues and at a great price. Everyone is also very friendly.

  • Christian Pasti

At the phone I've been told they had a cable I needed. Drove there (20 mins drive) and they told me: "We don't have it and we haven't had one for some time". A waste of time.

  • Isaiah Martinez

These guys are awesome! I made a call for some advice before heading into the store for advice and Jeff gave me the advice I was looking for in about 30 seconds. Thank you!!

  • Jerry “Askjerry” Rutherford

They saved me big-time. I needed terminal strips for a specific project... And I only had today to get them. They had EVERYTHING that I needed for the project thankfully.

  • Matt Huber

Some things are a bit pricey, but the staff and selection are wonderful, and if you need a specific electronic component or part, they're your best bet in all of Austin.

  • Gantz

Friendly knowledgeable staff ready and able to answer all my of questions and concerns. Helped guide me to the best product for my needs without trying to over sell me.

  • Irma Levrie

Website has accurate in stock items. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Return policy is strict: ask the right questions and do your research before purchasing.

  • Eugene Guy Maes

Great selection but only go if you are not on tight schedule. It literally took 20 mins to check out with only one person ahead of me. Also, no NFC and no Apple Pay.

  • Dan Jones

Prices are a little higher than what you’ll find online, but sometimes the convenience of being able to get something locally is worth spending a little extra.

  • Michael Mast (TurboAAA)

I have to visit altex whenever in town. Was able to get all the cables I needed, and they cary Ubiquiti equipment so I could replace an AP at the last minute.
