Wonderful spot to pop into either during the week or especially on a Sunday when the doors to the hall are open for an exhibition. Originally built by Lady Jane Franklin in 1842 to bring some culture and civility to the area. The name Acanthe stands for 'blooming valley' and she had it erected as a classic temple form. You can drive there as there is parking spots (out the front, next to the public toilets or anywhere along the street) or you can catch a bus as there is a bus stop at the entrance. The public toilets have been built only recently so are quite new and clean. There are a couple of seating benches on the land around the hall and the walking track leads all the way to the top of Lenah Valley road which is good for exercise and walking your dog. The public space around the hall also makes a nice little spot to have a picnic. The hall itself is rather small but makes up for it with charm and ambience.
Alas, tho' I may have been to this place, I am sure it is alright. Google, has the power to note every place we go with our mobile phones. Alas, it does not have the ability to distinguish with certainty where EXACTLY we go. And thus I find I am charged with visiting places I have not actually been to. So, in an effort to jog the Google consciousness, I am in future going to be more precise in my reporting. Google please note. Adrian Robertson
Small but peaceful Park next to Lady Jane Franklin Art Gallery, no play equipment but plenty of nature. Rivulet walk, carpark and toilets across the road. Dogs ok if on lead. Water play for kids on stepping stones. Down the stairs and across the bridge you will find a fun stone maze and local sculptures.
Great place to take the kids and dogs. Not much in the way of infrastructure, but the creek keeps them entertained, especially on hot days.
Nice little park, next to Lady Franklin museum. Pitty there's no children's playground here. Council should be lobbyed
