Whilst this company’s rates are competitive, I can almost guarantee it is because they invest zero time in their customer service or reliability. I booked a rental vehicle online for an 8.30am pick up at Hobart airport 2 days prior to needing to pick up the vehicle. When I arrived the vehicle was not parked in the “after hours” pick up zone! Adding to my frustration was the fact that the instructions I had been given to even make it to the after hours pick up zone were completely outdated due to works being carried out at the airport. I attempted to call the Apex office at 8.45am & then four more times again between 8.45am & 9.15am (their office opens at 9.00am). The last of my calls was answered by a shuttle bus driver who collected me from the airport & took me back to the Apex office to speak to customer service as apparently my booking was “missing”. I arrived at the office at 9.20am & not a single customer service person had arrived at work despite the office hours stating they opened at 9.00am! When finally a receptionist walked in at 9.30am, i was given a very clean & decent hire car (the ONLY reason this company is getting 2 starts) & departed the depot at 9.45am. However, I was 1 and a half hours late for my business meeting, which I believed I had given myself ample time to attend by pre-booking my vehicle. I would not have been late had the vehicle been where it needed to be after making the booking. Upon returning the car I filled it & 2 days later received a bill for $33 as Apex needed to put 9L of fuel in the tank!! I will NEVER use this company again!!

Do Not Recommend this business. The cost to hire a vehicle doubled from when we looked up prices to the next week when we booked! When we returned the vehicle there was only one person dealing with customers, returning and signing out vehicles and driving people to the airport!! Three groups of people had to wait an excessive amount of time to be driven to the airport. We made it just in time to checkin our luggage and board the flight. Not good enough! During this disorganised period of scrambling when returning the car I unfortunately left the mount for my GPS in vehicle with registration H62WY. I believe Apex should accept part responsibility for the chaos during that time. When I phoned to see about having Apex post the mount to me they quoted a price that is TWICE the cost of buying another mount online!! I accept that it was my fault leaving the mount in the car however, given that we’d already paid double the price to hire the vehicle I believe it would have been in good business spirit to post back for no charge. The poor customer service is unacceptable.

All fine until we had a minor issue (tyre change). Staff were rude to us, demanded nominal 'guesstimate' fee. Hired in Hobart - good car at a good price. All fine until we needed to change the tyre. The tools to change the tyre were hidden behind a panel in the boot area. Really unhelpful but we managed. When we returned the car to Hobart office and told them about the tyre change they requested a nominal amount of $100 - a guesstimate. No invoice, no evidence, just 'pay this amount now please'. When I asked for an invoice or evidence of how much a new tyre will actually cost the clerks became flustered and rude. Really rude. I was eventually sent an invoice for a new tyre from their supplier (Bridgestone). Fine. But when I asked for instructions on how to pay, Apex simply HELPED THEMSELVES TO MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS I supplied at the time of hire. No permission requested, just deducted. Sure that's in breach of Payment Card Data Security Standards?!!?? I will not be using Apex again and I strongly advise you to shop around before you do.

If I could leave less than 1 star I would... I booked a car a week in advance which was accepted and confirmed. The morning of the pickup, when I planned to pick the car up at 10am for a planned trip, I woke up to an email from the company at 9am saying there is no car available. They did not make any attempt to try and find me another car and did not even have the decency to call me to notify me. I attempted to call the company and the managers personal number, no answer. I finally got through to the company an hour later and the lady pretty much said they could do nothing as they had no cars and nearly every other rental company in Hobart were fully booked. It almost ruined my holiday, luckily there was a much more helpful and nicer car rental manager at a different company in Hobart who helped me out. When I picked up another car from the better company, I was told that I was not the only one and the company had received multiple calls that morning about this company screwing them over!!!!

We booked an SUV and were picked up by a shuttle bus and transferred to the rental location off Kennedy Drive. This place like many other businesses right now appears to have been affected by the covid related staff shortages. The shuttle bus driver also acts as customer service and we had to wait a bit for our turn to sign docs and pay. When we checked the car tyres, one was quite worn and the representative agreed that it was not legally acceptable. Hence we had to unpack and re-pack in to another similar SUV. This meant a further delay but happily we had a fantastic trip with no issues for 2 weeks. Would like to suggest an amendment to the car return location map with clarity on entrance to APEX as their signage not really visible. Once again when we rang it was the shuttle bus driver who gave us directions to enter through Cambridge Park Drive and to look for National Tiles Board as APEX is just behind/besides National Tiles.

Rented a small car for 4 days over the weekend. Collected the car from their compound (7 minutes outside the airport by taxi as the shuttles were full) and the car itself was tidy and reasonable for the price they charged. Disappointing end to our trip however as they charged an extra $40 to our credit card for "out of hours drop off". Apparently Apex use a third party for drop offs before 9am (we returned the car at 8.30am). We called to check in advance and followed their instructions, but never did they nor their website mention we would be charged a penalty because their office doesn't open until 9am. This essentially means they will charge anyone catching a pre-10am an extra $40 fee, which seems like something they should be upfront about when people make a booking. Will book from a company that has pickup and collection within the terminal next time, any cost savings using Apex are cancelled out with this hidden fee.

Rented the car for a week. The day before I was to return the car, I received an email that the Apex office has moved and it’s now almost 5km away from the airport. They did not inform me when I picked up the car that they were moving. I went to the location where google map says the office was and it was just a shopping strip car park with no apex sign, cars or personnel to be seen. This was prior to their opening time at 8am. I then drove around the car park lot for 15 minutes looking without success. Thinking the email was perhaps a scam, I drove back to the airport at the location I picked the car. I then called apex and was told that because I dropped the car off at the wrong place, I will be charged for any damages despite the fact that I bought full insurance. Bad for not informing of moving in advance. Bad instructions on email. Google map does not help. No building in the strip had building numbers labeled.

Second time using Apex and glad we did. Pricing was competitive and the car was a reliable Hyundai i30 (just like the first one). We were picked up from the airport via shuttle, although we had to wait for the second trip due to the number of people, but no big deal. We arrived on a Saturday so minimal people working that day, but there were no dawdling hands. Once I sat down, everything was done fast and efficiently. Insurance was explained but not pushed on you, which I appreciated. Pictures of the car's condition was e-mailed to me for my reference, although I was encouraged to take my own pictures. Returning the car was no problem either. Just a small wait for the shuttle as we were the only passengers on board but we were off in to time. Overall - fast, friendly and reliable service that I would use again in future.

We booked this whilst travelling in Australia expecting it to be at Hobart Airport as the name suggests. It is not. You have to call them up to pick you up from the airport and drive to their location. Also it seems they do not answer this free phone, we tried 7/8 times, rang out everytime before trying the sales line which funnily enough picked up straight away and had to contact the pick up team on our behalf. Also be prepared to drop the car back at a time that's convenient to them rather than you because if you want a ride back to the airport the shuttle only leaves every 45 minutes as if you're not actually paying for this service. There's 3 or 4 better car hire places that actually are in the airport. If you're travelling like us don't make the same mistake we did by prebooking with Apex.

NEVER again will I rent a car here. Long story short, a third party made a damage to our car, another APEX customer witness it and gave report back to the branch. When we called the branch everything was fine and we could go on, no need for call police or anything. Same message when car was returned, since there was a witness we wouldn't be charged because they had the information on the 3 party that caused the damage. 3 months later they charged the full fee of 2,750 AUD from our credit card and denied that we were given other instructions!!! I am chocked by this treatment and the poor level of handling complaints both by the branch and their HQ in NZ. I was a very happy APEX customer until this episode caused by this branch!

Great service and much cheaper than the other rent-a-car companies. We were amazed that Budget were a lot more expensive - that's nuts! The airport shuttle service was brilliant, especially as it was our first visit and we had no idea where to go. I can't remember anyone's name, but the large lady with the dark hair was so friendly and helpful. The icing on the cake was having her run us back to the airport at the finish in the same car to save time & muscles. The Camry was very neat & clean, went well and was just the right size for us & a week's worth of stuff. If only it had been red & manual...sigh

We recently travelled from the Gold Coast to Hobart and hired a car through Apex. The entire process from start to finish was smooth and uncomplicated. We were advised on everything we needed to know before hiring a Hyundai Elantra in near new condition. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the rate was fantastic. We were even given tourist tips, being our first trip to Tassie. Upon returning the car, we were driven to the airport terminal and hence the end of our trip. I would certainly without hesitation just contact Apex Car Rentals without looking anyone else up. Thanks Apex team at Hobart and especially Phil.

Booked a car online for 25 days and from start to finish the experience was amazing. Easy online booking and when we got to Hobart airport I rang for the shuttle bus and they picked us up promptly. Matt was easy going and very informative and we received a car with very low mileage on it and very clean. We drove over 3500 kms around Tasmania and had no problems whatsoever. Dropped car back to office and they drove us in shuttle bus back to airport for our flight home. Lots cheaper than the other rentals also which was a real bonus and a great saving. Would highly recommend Apex to anyone looking at hiring a car.

Trusted the reviews but i guess i was wrong, the customer service is really quite terrible via email since im not a native australia. Wrote in several emails but it takes forever for them to reply and they did not even respond to my request to update my email address. Also, please do not be naive like me and book a rental thinking that you could cancel beforehand - the fine print states that there will be charges if you cancel 14 days before the rental, unlike Bargain Car Rentals. Have yet to collect our rental car but fingers crossed all things pan out for next Monday. Will update this review again.

Value for money! The process was quite smooth, just called the number in the email and they will pick you up shortly. They have generously replace another vehicle of same category but with larger luggage storage space for us! The booster seat was free, unlimited mileage is included and there is no extra charge for returning the car at a different location! While it's my first time driving the car, the staff explained things to us clearly and answering our questions patiently and even told us where to get a new pairs of shoes and load our supplies! Will certainly rent from Apex again in future.

Apex has been reliable and economical for my GC trip. Naturally I went with them again once at Hobart. Things run a bit differently here. Shuttle bus run like clockwork. It is not on demand. They strictly follow their timetable with 45 min service interval. You may wait long if you just miss one like I did and this info wasn’t well advised before my arrival. I was given a fuel hungry slightly dirty forester but other than that the car was a joy to drive. An infant was refused entry on shuttle bus so yeah keep that in mind. Driver was always a good person to ask for travel tips.

We had a great experience with Apex Car Rentals. We booked a Hyundai i30 and received a Hyundai Kona at pick-up, which was a nice surprise. The car was clean and in great condition, and the pick-up and drop-off process was quick and easy. As they’re not located inside the Hobart Airport complex (they are on the north side of Tasman Highway, a few minutes’ drive) they offer a courtesy airport shuttle service. The pricing was competitive and online booking management was fairly easy. Wouldn’t hesitate to use Apex Car Rentals again next time we are in Tasmania.

Absolutely disgusting place. We booked 2 months ago to hire a car only to be told at 8.30am on the morning we are meant to fly to hobart from melbourne. Only to be told our car was no longer available. With only an hour before we had to leave home to go to the airport we had to make numerous calls to get a car. In the end we got a 12 seater mini bus ( for just 2 of us) at double the price for our original booking..will never use or recommend apex to anyone. Didnt even have the courtesy to answer our numerous calls.

Honestly one of the easiest and cheapest car remtal services I’ve used. Booked an SUV for 4 days for $116. The customer service was brilliant, quick and simple. No big deal that you have to take a shuttle to the actual location, from getting our bags at the airport to being in the hire car was around 15mins. They had the car parked there, keys in and boot open waiting for us when we got there, most places you’re walking around the yard looking for your car. Will definitely use again.

Excellent service and great customer service. These guys were really easy to deal with. They provide a pick up service from Hobart airport to their premises a short trip away. The car was clean. They had sent full pictures of the car to our phone prior to us picking it up. Due to COVID 19 lockdowns, we had to return the car early and they gave us a refund for what we didn't use which was excellent. I would highly recommend using this company.

Initially hesitant given the mixed reviews online, but I had a great experience with Apex rental! Free shuttle provided from the pickup point at Hobart Airport (gotta walk out a bit, not the one right in front of the airport) that goes to and fro. Number provided for shuttle did not pick up till the 3rd try but all was good. Car provided was reliable, clean and modern. Just gotta fill the tank up during return and all is good.

Collected our car yesterday, had booked a Baleno, got a Swift that has scratches along drivers side, dent in roof and various scratches all over. Went back inside to ask them to check car, was advised to compare with the photos they sent, haven’t received any photos! Stan were going on a break so would not look at the car Was told no Balenos available but there was one sitting in the collection area Not happy

Really bad experience. Staff have no interest in fixing issues. Dirty cars, I was offered there and all dirty. They only open at 8:00am so if you have an early flight you have to leave the car back the day before at 5:00 pm. No lockbox facility to drop off keys. Shuttle bus to and from airport. I cancelled and they cannot guarantee a full refund. Never again. This is a subsidiary of Avis, I expected more.

Could not recommend more! Johnno the Assistant at the car pick up location was enormously helpful on any issues that arose and his customer service was impeccable. Also Bob the driver of the after hours shuttle bus went above and beyond for me when I was dumb enough to leave one of my bags in the car and he went back and got them, he's also great conversion. Excellent from pickup to dropoff.

We had a good experience from start to finish with Apex. From the initial enquiry, the communication was prompt and the quote reasonable. We were upgraded, which we appreciated, there were no extra or hidden costs, the car was clean and we had no car issues during the 2 week hire. And the pick up service worked well, so no complaints at all about Apex.

Had after time pickup. Mini bus picked us up without problems. The Toyota Camry we rented had full fuels. It was dusty and the inside wasn't too clean but is very easy to clean just with a few wipes. We had no problems with the car at all. Washed it in nearby service station. The staff was friendly and drove us back. I would rent again from them.

Rented a RAV4 for 10 days for a roundtrip on Tassie. Car had a bit higher milage than average but did a fantastic job! Very good value for money with zero excess, unlimited km’s and free 2nd driver. Good communication. Shuttle was a breeze and very friendly staff. Would definitely use Apex again on our next trip, highly recommended!

This is the second year weve used Apex Hobart for our car hire. Matt and Shirley are excellent employees of Apex cannot sing their praises more highly. They gave us a newish Nissan Xtrail this time and it worked a treat. Have recommended Apex to others as well and we'll be using them again for our holiday again next year no worries.

Great service and staff at Launceston but when we returned the car to Hobart one of the staff were extremely rude and a bully. Be careful not to complain. Our complaint was that the car we were given had unroadworthy tyres that left us in a dangerous position on the road. Note: check the car body and TYRES. Don't let him bully you.

Had wonderful experience with Apex car rental. Hobart airport team is very friendly and accommodating. The whole process was hassle free! Would recommend getting zero excess, and roadside assistance. Even though it costs a little bit extra, the price of renting from apex is still cheaper than other companies out there.

We booked a mid size car and ended up with an upgrade to an Outlander which was welcomed. The staff were great and the rental process painless. Hire price was fantastic. This was the third time I've hired with Apex - twice in Tas and once in Sydney - and each time has been fantastic. Can't beat them for value.

Good service when drop off. Quick and easy. we ran a bit late so didn't fill up full tank, but the staff didn't charge for that, which is beyond my expectation. No clean-car required, just return straightaway. Would suggest a clearer signage for its location thou. Not easy to find. will recommend for others.

Friendly service, car clean and tidy. When we called to advise our flight home had been changed to 7 hours later we were allowed to keep the car at no cost which made our last day memorable. Would recommend using them and next time I need to hire a car I will definitely be considering using Apex again.

We travelled with our 6 year old with our own car seat, their pick up shuttle driver refused to pick us up as he couln't fit the car seat and won't allow her to tide without one. My wife and kids had to wait behind while I went to pick the car up. If travelling with young kids don't book through them.

Lovely experience at check in, staff where brilliant and the car is lovely... compared to many other rental companies they are very easy to deal with. Only negative is car must of a muddy previous customer and left some mud in the foot well... maybe some floor mats are needed... but not a deal breaker

Fast check-in. Didn’t try to sell us lots of extra things. Good fast busservice from the terminal. Super fast check-out, they offered to take us to the terminal in our own rental car, as it was already 17.00 hrs, and they were closing. Super friwndly staff and we got a free upgrade, very nice!!

Awesome cars, clear T&Cs, fair prices (try Webjet for a deal) and convenient shuttles. Locations are not at the airports but they have clean, friendly shuttle services. Shuttles could be a little more frequent but overall a fantastic service. We won't hesitate to use them again.

I'm not doubting the terrible experience of some reviewers, but our two week rental with Apex could not have been better. Our upgraded vehicle was fantastic and their service was impeccable. No rip-offs or misleading information. We will be using Apex Hobart again in the future.

Good car with great prices compared to others. Picking up & dropping off our rental car was an easy process plus Apex have a courtesy airport bus as they are a few kilometres away. We hired a Hyundai Kona for 18 days from Apex Hobart with no issues driving around Tassie.

Very reasonably priced and we had a great experience. Staff was friendly and helpful. Car is clean and in good conditions with no problems. The only downside is the need for airport transport which is well managed with clear instructions on how to pickup and drop off.

We rented a car for 5 days. All arrangements were smooth and staff very helpful. As with all car rentals go for the total cover on the insurance if you can to avoid any disagreements. Hyundai Elantra went very well over to west coast of Tasmania etc.

Excellent rates. We had to return our car on a Sunday morning and we had engine trouble. There was no one from Apex that I could call as they don't open on a Sunday. Even the national office. Apart from that problem, Apex were great to deal with.

Don't waste your time. A $1900 price increase and refusal to match original quoted price. They won't return your calls and will just stop replying to emails. I get that there is a car shortage, but upping your price by $1900 was ridiculous.

These guys know what customer service is. Quick check in, quality cars, easy shuttle service. We returned the car 2 days early and received a refund even without asking for it on top of already compatible prices. Will be back next time.
