CON PEOPLE OR INCOMPETENT. Either way, proceed with extreme caution and take photos of EVERYTHING, before and after. Short version: They charged me $1,103 for damage to the car, which was pre-existing. Thankfully I had video and photo evidence to prove the damage was already there. To prevent this happening to anyone else in future, the number plate of our car was J87ZX and the supposed damage was on the front passenger tyre and hubcap (image attached). Long version: Four days after dropping off our car, I received an email saying "It has come to our knowledge that some damage has occurred to your rental vehicle during your hire. We have charged a $1000 Excess and a $88 Admin fee". I was shocked and furious to receive this email because we had done no damage to the car, and the money had already been taken out of my account. Luckily, I had taken a very thorough video and images of the car when we picked it up at Hobart Airport, and was able to clearly see in this video that the damage to the tyre and its hubcap was already there when we picked the car up. I sent this photo and video evidence back in response and quickly received an email saying that "The images you have provided shows the damages are preexisting" and that my money would be refunded. Thank goodness for the video, or we would have had a very difficult time proving that we didn't cause the damage. This was either incompetency by Bargain Cars (perhaps nobody noticed the damage after the last person returned it) or a deliberate attempt to scam money from us, and seeing that there are other reviewers who have had similar experiences, the latter seems more likely. When we dropped the car off, an employee quickly appeared and took our keys, and said that we should jump on the shuttle that was waiting to take us to the airport. This employee had a quick look around the car then disappeared inside. We felt pressured to quickly get on the shuttle, which was nearly full and only waiting for us, and the employee had left so we gathered that everything was fine with the car and no more information or signature was needed from us. However we both felt uneasy after getting on the shuttle, as we had intended to take more photos and videos of the car before leaving but felt that this was made difficult. My $500 bond that was held as pending in my account while we had the car was also returned to me at this point, again suggesting that everything was ok with the car. You will likely also encounter a long wait in the queue upon picking up your car at the airport, as well as a whole bunch of questions attempting to instil fear and make you cough up more money - it's bad that you purchased third party insurance and you won't be covered for this and that, etc. Looking around at the other empty car rental windows as I stood in the long line at Bargain Car Rentals, this also made me uneasy - clearly there was something not quite right if Bargain Cars was so much cheaper than everyone else that they had ALL the business. I guess if you're willing to risk it to save yourself some money, go for it - just make sure you've taken photos of everything upon pick up and drop off.
Echoing what similar reviews have been saying. Everything start to finish was a disaster and do not recommend at all! Prior to arriving at Hobart we specified what time we would be picking up the car so we could get stuck into our holiday. We had only one person waiting before us and was told that the car is not in the rental lot and we needed to wait 15 minutes. We waited patiently for another 30 minutes and suddenly there was a long line, we approached another team member and he said “no keys have been returned so itll be another 15 minutes”. Despite telling him that we’ve already been waiting for 30 minutes and saw multiple staff members walk from the lot to the desk our keys were still not there. We waited outside and I pointed out to my partner a car that looked identical to the one we chose and said to ourselves “what’s the bet, this is our car?”. We waited a total of 2 hours before we approached the desk and the team member who served us initially awkwardly avoided eye contact with us and pretended nothing was out of the ordinary, funnily enough the car we pointed at in the lot 1.5 hours ago was the car we booked?! Repeating what other reviews have said, take the 5 minutes to take detailed photos and videos of the car before driving off because we were accused of damaging the car that had pre-existing damage! In hindsight we noticed every single person coming from bargain car rentals was doing the same thing, whether or not it’s indicative of their service or just overall cautiousness I hope this paints a picture of what your money is worth. Long waits with no apologies or explanations and accusing you for pre-existing damage either because they don’t update their damage reports or try to squeeze more money from you. Should you chose to go with these guys buy third party insurance and make sure they don’t brush over the bonds and insurance like they tried to do with us. Either way, spend the extra money and go for literally anyone else.
Very poor and disappointing service. We had hired a car for 5 days for our time in Tasmania. On the second day of use, the car (without warning) stopped abruptly on the highway out of Hobart. This made for a very unsafe situation, as we were unable to move the car to a safe area. The police also turned up and threatened us with fines for stopping in such a dangerous location (but we could not help this - the car simply stopped). It was a very distressing, traumatising and inconvenient situation, which was made all the worst by the actions of Bargain Car Rentals. No one wanted to talk to us about making up for our lost time (we have now missed doing and seeing things in Hobart because of the lost time). Nor did anyone want to hear about the distressing experience we had been through. When we spoke to someone on the phone about it all, they said they *might* (after reviewing the situation), give us some $60 in compensation. We were seriously told by the customer service rep from the company that 'cars break down all the time' and we just had to accept that. When I spoke to someone else, they said that had a few cars broken down - so it didn't seem that uncommon. If you want a safe and reliable car rental service, and one that will not abandon you in dangerous situations, I would suggest you use almost anyone else in Hobart! Avoid at all costs!
Based on my recent experience with Bargain Car Rentals, I don't recommend them. I would say, go with a reputable rental company instead. I always like using the independent companies first, because I prefer supporting small business. But this experience has left me disappointed. I was on a cruise and in Hobart for just a day. It all started when I received my Booking Confirmation. I booked a "Full Size" Car for around $106 per day with Gold $0 excess cover. But was surprised to see in the confirmation that I had been issued a "Compact SUV" that was $86 with the same cover but was still charged the $106. I brought this to their attention, to which I received a reply of "It's been sorted". My booking was for 9am but didn't get there until 10am. Only to be told that the car wasn't ready. Had to wait an extra 10 minutes. When we received the car, it was a Toyota Camry with 230,000kms on it, it had spider webs on the side mirrors and there was damage on the car that wasn't on the pre-existing damage report. After driving it for about 20 minutes, I started hearing a deep grinding sound from the brakes. You really want reliable brakes when you're driving down Mt. Wellington. I asked the company for some sort of compensation or discount on my booking, but they refused. Also, I still haven't received my $500 bond.
With a great team offering the pleasant surprise of fabulous, OTT service, the great pricing and a fleet of new MG vehicles what’s not to love about Bargain Car Rentals? This was our 2nd experience with this company, Brisbane & Hobart, same, same. We are returning to Tas for 10 days soon, no question, booked our Bargain Rentals car immediately. The little MG had seats that were a little firm, so a lot of driving might require some extra padding or get another model, but ask about the seat comfort if that is a concern. I will take some foam in my baggage as I like the price so much I can easily fix it with Mr & Mrs foam, simples. There are 2 ways to Launceston, the boring shorter way with a couple of ye olde towns to look at, did that or the great lakes way, what and awesome trip! Heading from Launceston to Deloraine and then the great lakes General Store in the navigation and adventure with diverse scenery is set. It’s an extra hour travelling but so worth it, up one way and back the other is my recommendation. If you had to do the trip regularly you would the shorter boring way, in your Bargain Rental Car hopefully. O & O
TERRIBLE SERVICE..definitely cheap but the extra fees and scamming adds up..charged extras on pick up because we didn't go with their insurance and had purchased insurance prior with another company when booking online.. on top of that we were charged $500 for an apparent chip on the windscreen..our initial inspection report on pickup had the chip on the window which we didn't bother reporting or noting....their report after drop-off consisted of a photo of the same chip and a screenshot of their computer screen of the inspection stating a 2nd chip ...I had to fill the online report myself with the link they sent which didn't feel right as it felt like I was being scammed. YEAP!! they took money out of my account which is why i had to do the report so i could make a claim to my insurance to get my money back. TIPS: If you have dents and scratches on the car when picking up ask for a different car cos you will surely be blamed for one of those dents/chips/scratches...was also charged a transfer fee that wasn't mentioned as our pick up and drop off points were different.
After seeing the major brands current exorbitant pricing for Hobart I was happy to be shown Bargain Car Rentals when booking though Jetstar. I chose the option offered. I'll be honest, after reading a number of bad reviews on several sites about Bargain Car Rentals I became nervous of my decision. I cancelled the booking through Jetstar and did some more research. I then realised that by going direct to the Bargain Car Rentals website I was able to choose their Platinum insurance cover for very little more. Choosing this option basically made any complaint I had read about them negligible as the Platinum Insurance covered everything including reducing the credit card hold fee to only $1. I highly recommend the Platinum Cover for piece of mind. It made my holiday much more enjoyable. The staff at pick up were extremely helpful even though both were wearing learners badges! :) I was given a Suzuki Baleno instead of the common Yaris. The car was basically brand new, spotless and was great to drive. I'd recommend Bargain Car Rentals for anyone travelling to Hobart.
My pregnant wife, 2 years old daughter and I rented a 2/3 berth camper van with Bargain. Bargain's website and check in page suggested we could use a child car seat, we checked that by calling their office a few days before the trip and they confirmed. On arrival, I am told that a car seat cannot be fitted as there is no anchor point. The most unprofessional man I have ever seen gives me two options: 1. Seat my child at the front using the standard seat belt, knowing full well that this can kill a child, or 2. Use the car seat and use a ROPE (!!) to anchor the car seat to something in the van. This guy did not even know the name of his own staff who answered my call and did not want to refund us. We had also chosen a circa $300 premium to have a more recent van but ended up having an older version anyway. I have attached to this message a picture of the anchor point using a rope, for your amusement. I know their price tag is attractive but remember that it is likely that you will regret your decision as much as we did.
I wish there is negative stars to rate Bargain car rentals. I had a worst experience with them. On the day to collect the vehicle they lets us wait for more than an hours saying the vehicle was not ready. When I called the head office they didn't know what was going on. Due to this our plan was messed up and had to wait in the airport office for more than an hours. After 3 days the bus started making a sound when we press the break. So we called them for the road side assistant, as it was risky to drive the bus. They don't answer your call on time. We came back to home driving like that. And when they call us back they asked us to take the car to city office the next day. And there as well the mechanic didn't knew we were coming to fix the bus. So they make us wait for 3 hours till it gets fixed. Our touring plan was so messed up only because of bargain car rentals. Paying for insurance with 0 excess and roadside assistant is a shame when they don't provide the service that we have paid for.
*DO NOT USE* If i could give minus 0 i would.... They provided us an agreement, stating the car had full petrol- we have photo evidence it was not given to us like this. We also have photos of the windscreen they claim we damaged. When i asked for their inspection report prior to renting the car, there was significant damage which we took clear photos of. They claim we have damaged the windscreen with a chip. I have photos that a mark or chip was there prior to renting. They did not advise they would deduct money until after the fact and when i pressed for their internal reports, they simply did not have the answers. I would rather pay more money and go with a company that is liable than a company that is misleading and deceptive. Do your research. They are called 'Bargain for a reason' because they charge for damages you did not initiate and when you supply them the evidence they claim it is 'unclear'....
I’d like to give no stars, but I can’t if I want to review. Prepaid before leaving Western Australia, so as a disability pensioner I knew what money I had left to fly to Tasmania to see my mother who was in a coma. Once I arrived, they tried to slug me with more fees and a $500 bond, which was not clearly stated upfront (or I would have assumed it would have been taken at time of payment as it is with everywhere else) the guy at the desk was quite rude and condescending. I’d even say snarky. Because I didn’t have the extra funds I had to cancel my booking, it took almost a week for the money to appear in my account, which was making it hard for me to get another car elsewhere.. (am lucky yescar rental helped me out) Even after the dealings, they still sent me an email to review them. Do not recommend. Please read reviews before booking, I wish I had
Unfortunately, a lack of coordination and communication in their systems seems to be the norm here. The car was ok and about 5 years old. I had to wait until 1130 am for a car booked at 9am. That happens I guess and I know things can get hectic with people coming and going and customers not being on time. The representative explained the situation and stated he would change the fuel out in the car in rental car manager to half a tank so I could return it half full instead of full. I then receive a receipt by email a week and a half later for $87 for fuel charged to my credit card. Sigh, more time wasted following up poor performance. Telephone hold times to speak to someone about this are rediculous! A simple action by the staff member at the time could have saved hours.
Bad stuff: After completing and getting a ‘booking request’ email confirmation, call them up and CONFIRM that you have a car! Online booking process is unreliable. I got a fright when I was told I may not have a car upon arriving to Hobart city to do a road trip. Thankfully someone had cancelled and we got a car, otherwise I would have no idea what we would do, given the higher rates during the Easter time. Good stuff: The service was friendly and luckily they fixed it up. But confirmations etc need to be better and timely. Conveniently located and very fairly priced rentals compared to others, we had a slightly older car but drives fantastically and the rest of their fleet looked good/new cars. I do recommend, except for the confirmation process online is unreliable.
Really positive experience with this company. I'd booked a car via car next door while travelling from Melbourne, which was cancelled last minute leaving me extremely upset and frustrated. I walked down from the pick up zone to see Budget car rentals, walked in explaining my situation and was supported to hire a car immediately. Process was super quick, car was in excellent condition and I was able to return it to the airport which was really helpful for an early flight. It was slightly more expensive than what i'd booked initially with CND but i felt it was worth it for the professionalism and accountability. Rex (?) at the front counter was very helpful, communicative and upfront about the costs of the rental. Will definitely be using Bargain car rentals again.
While the initial price seems like a bargain, the car was average and fresh air/air conditioning wasn't working. My son(who is an auto electrician) had to get off the highway to pull the pollen filter out (which was completely blocked). We then had to hurry to get back into the traffic and he then got a speeding fine, which is on its way. Also a $75 fee for processing this infringement notice was added onto our credit card bill so more expense. Apart from that, we left some expensive headphones in the boot which was reported soon afterwards, but we had to go through head office in Hobart and the car was at Brisbane Airport. So no one bothered to get back to us from there. Poor service overall.
AVOID THIS COMPANY We rented a caravan to drive Tasmania with my friend and the caravan was in incredible unacceptable conditions. 1. Car was really really dirty and old. (Double really) 2. Gas tank was empty. 3. Manager was really rude saying if you want leave it there, we’re not going to give you refund anyway. There’s a lot to improve in for this company to be competitive. You could try, 1. Offer your customers that you will clean the car a bit more while he/she patiently wait. 2. Teach manager to be nicer to customers. 3. Apologise for the car tank being empty & don’t repeat with other customers. 4. Improve fleet I WOULD DEFINITELY AVOID BARGAIN RENTAL CARS IN MY NEXT HOLIDAY
The experience I had from Bargain Car Rentals was great! I requested a car in the early morning and received my confirmation email by 11am the same day, which was a relief as it was a very last minute booking for the day after. The City shop is in a very convenient location and was easy to find. The process for pick up was seamless and the man at the counter was very friendly. We got a cute little yellow Kia that had a full petrol tank, and the car was parked right outside for us to hop into. Drop off was quick and easy too. The reviews almost deterred me from booking but I have no regrets and would recommend this company to anyone else who may be on the fence.
Don't agree with having no choice giving a star, this company is unprofessional/deceiving and just rude, wish I could share all the details but too long, the central locking failed to work they made me drive to the airport total 56.4kms that i ended up paying half,a hour later gave me another vehicle not similar cause there was none in the lot, manager didnt bother to ring as I was told he would, only thanks to Callum in city office fought a extra day for me knowing my hell story, now continuous emails trying to slam me with fees saying cause it was a upgrade when it was said out of compensation for my troubles, don't trust this company
On returning the car, I was charged $250 for a $60 chip repair to the windscreen, even though I can't even say for certain the damage occurred during my rental period. The condition of the car was abysmal - stained seats, broken USB charger, scratches and bumps to the exterior of the car. All of this made the claim for damage even more preposterous. Given that this is the cheapest car rental place in Hobart, I did wonder if this is a predatory practice for those people who choose not to take out policy excess cover with them (I obtained mine separately for a fraction of the price). I won't use Bargain Car Rentals again.
0 Star rating ! I called and lodged a complaint about the condition of the car and how We also didn't get the promised car . We got a confirmation email for a Kia but got an MG. This is false advertising. The MG did not perform and would struggle to go up a small hill. The fuel tap cap was extremely difficult to open. The car is like a Tinned box and reved alot causing safety issues. It was extremely risky for us to be in the vehicle. I am an experienced driver for 20 years and the car ruined our first trip to Hobart. The guy I complained to also did nothing. We will never go with you again !!!
Outstanding in every aspect. Approached the experience with trepidation given some of the reviews. However, having taken out their Platinum insurance I was sure there was little that could go wrong. And nothing did. We had priced a compact car with AVIS for the same period and were quoted $1,384 for 4 days. BARGAIN gave us a brand spanking new MG SUV with 12km (yes...12km) on the clock for $243 for the same period. Amit at check in was great, and Nick who handed us the keys was equally as professional. WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND these guys and will definitely use when I am next back in Hobart.
If you have young children DO NOT BOOK with Bargain. Had booked rental with Bargain in Tasmania, however, upon arriving and collecting vehicle, the car seat provided for our newborn was grossly inadequate and unsafe. Desk staff were helpful, however the staff sent to assist with replacing the car seat were not knowledgeable on car seat safety whatsoever, and the replacement car seat was equally unsafe and unusable. After wasting over an hour, we were left with no choice but to cancel our booking and book with another company for $200 more than originally booked with Bargain.
Absolute terrible service from this company. We hired a 25 seat bus in Hobart for a trip to the North East. The rear door kept alarming, so every 5 minutes we had to stop. Called customer service after hours 730pm and they had no interest in helping unless we took the bus into the depot on Saturday morning. This was despite the fact we told them on numerous occasions we had a bus load of kids. We will be around 5 hours late due to the issues. We also found out that this same bus, had the same fault reported 2 weeks ago by a school group. Do much for a safety conscious cpany.
We rented a compact vehicle, normally we get the corolla or the i30s as compact. This time they gave us Kia Rio, it didnt have any cruise control and had noise. The car couldnt go up hills easily it had an issue and they still gave it to people. We were staying at the bay view villas and each time we went uphill it just gave us trouble to get to our apartment. During Christmas the car rental is not cheap and we paid a lot of money for the car that is not even worth it. The customer service was good when we picked the car but for what is worth i had the worst car for 7 days.
Customer service at counter was fine and car was ok. Very disappointed with the contract terms however. Picked up the car on a Friday at 5.20pm, with contract stating return time as being 10.00am on the following Monday. Paid daily rate for Monday as part of contract. Needed to extend hire until 3.00pm (a mere 5 hours and believed that I should have until 5.00pm to fulfil the day that I had paid for). Was told that the car was booked out again that afternoon - How? When I had paid for the day??? Charging two people for the same car on the same day, doesn’t seem right to me.
Beware of additional charges!! We booked our Bargain Car Rental car through Discover Cars and got what we thought was a great price for car and insurances for 5 days; $250 for a small SUV. When we arrived, it turned we had purchased our rental through Bargain Cars but the insurance through Discover Cars (this was very confusing when I booked online). Because of this, Bargain Car Rental held $500 from our bank account until we returned the car even though the car was fully insured....very confusing and annoying...just make sure you know who and what you are paying for..
There are some other car rental options, but Bargain Car Rentals is local. I booked the car pretty in advance and got a good deal, that I believe was better compared to Budget, Europe, Avis and Hertz. I did not book the car from their direct website, rather from a B2B site Discover Cars. The team members, both in Hobart airport and city were very helpful. Our flight was delayed and a team member from the airport messaged the city team member about the situation and the city outlet remained open for some additional time. I definitely recommend this business.
I think rental car companies tend to attraction a disproportionately high number of negative reviews due to the nature of the business and the numerous conflict points that inevitably arise when renting a car. From a personal perspective my wife and I hired a car recently for a week in Tasmania. We booked the car online directly through their website and go immediate confirmation. I found the collection and drop off went without a hitch. The staff were friendly at both ends. We had no issues with the car whatsoever. I wouldn't hesitate to use Budget again
So far so good, still waiting for Bond payment. Waited for about 5 mins to get the keys. Process going great then Mrs YOU’VE GIVEN ME THE WRONG CAR turns up and pushes in front of me. Note to staff If your dealing with one customer and Mrs YOU’VE ME THE WRONG CAR turns up. Please explain that your dealing with another customer that’s equally as important as you and if you need read the terms and conditions and the line a Hyundai or SIMILAR car will be provide. Anyway Car was spotless great deal lovely staff Just need to improve on Hobarts weather :)
I was stunned at how great they were. Friendly staff who even encouraged us to take our own photos of the hire car to make sure we were not scammed. Didn't hassle us about insurance which we purchased through a third party. The car was amazing, clean and easy to drive, and they even offered us discounted petrol if we returned the car empty. Best part was they were so much cheaper than competitors. Surprised at all the negative reviews; either they weren't as lucky as us, or they're older reviews. Very happy, will definitely come back!
Terrible experience. Booked a car via Klook, a major online travel agency, just to discover that there was a discrepancy between the vehicle category I paid for and what was logged into Bargain Car Rental's system. I was effectively downgraded and had to pay extra for the category I booked in the first place. The staff showed no interest in helping, said it was my problem because I booked via a 'Chinese website' which I felt had racist undertones. A very transactional and no-frills experience, avoid these people if you can.
Rented a car from Bargain car rentals. Right from the first phone contact staff were very helpful. Pick up was Hobart airport & drop off Hobart city. The day I was supposed to return the car, I contacted them to see if I could extend hire for a further 2 days. This was done quickly & easily over the phone, once again by helpful, polite & friendly staff. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with these guys. Their car was great and the best price. Thank you. Will definitely be using your services again if I need a rental car.
Had a really positive experience using Bargain rentals in Hobart. Excellent friendly and efficient staff and car was great. Only advice I would give other customers would be to take out insurance directly with Bargain cars and not with the booking agent if you use one as I did. Whilst I was lucky and didn’t need to use the insurance if I had it would have been a little more complicated to access. When I got the insurance I wasn’t aware. This was not the fault of Bargain Rentals, and now I am more aware in the future.
Avoid at all costs; so shocking it made my wife cry and witnesses offered their names and numbers so they could help us later with our complaints. 30 mins in the queue despite online check-in, the staff were verbally abusive and physically intimidating, had to wait another 45 mins for the car to be ready, not the car we booked, we missed our ferry, $500 surprise deposit or $40 a day extra, huge $5000 minimum excess. I could go on - don't hesitate to complain to ACCC and don't be fooled by cheap rates!
Very rude staff at the counter! We booked a rental car originally to be picked from Hobart airport. We checked with the call centre if a car was available from the City instead and were told that a car would be ready for pick-up at 9AM. We only got the car at 10AM with no compensation for loss of time and the fact our plans for the day were ruined. We were also spoken to very rudely by the lady at the counter even though it wasn't our fault that we were provided wrong information.
We patiently waited 50 minutes in a long line at Hobart airport to collect our prebooked hire car. What really annoyed us was paying twice for insurance. We selected insurance via the online booking form however it didn’t provide sufficient coverage and couldn’t be cancelled. Bargain staff said that insurance was independent of Bargain. Bargain offered insurance at a cost of $40 per day which was absurdly expensive. So we had 2 insurance policies and neither were reasonable.
Hobart: worst car hire pickup in my life. Two hours until we had the keys to the car and could leave. A bunch of extremely agrevated customers before us also who had to wait an extremely long time. Rep said they had a bunch of issues that morning, however asking around this seems to be the normal level of service at this location. Only one staff member on the desk doing checkouts and what appeared to be managerial tasks. If you value your time and sanity avoid this place.
Good value for price, quick pick-up, the car was okay but could be better maintained (scratches and chips everywhere, a lot of them starting to rust, definitely take pictures of everything before leaving the parking lot), but it's been more than 2 weeks since I returned the car and I still haven't received my deposit back EDIT: I got the deposit back a month after returning the car. Are they just incompetent or do they take interest-free loans from customers?
I was surprised how expensive car rentals in Tasmania cost. Was glad i took a chance using Bargain Car rentals. They were well priced. I took a Nissan Dualis for a whole week which had barely done 50,000 kms. It was perfect for 3 adults luggage and the round island trip of Tasmania. Glad it had good breaks and handled the unexpected snow and non-stop rain in Cradle Mountain. Highly recommend! Easy to contact and book car, pick up and after hours drop off.
We chose on price following a recommendation from a friend. Daily hire rate was much more competitive than others. We got a late model, low km RAV4, and did 1800km in a fortnight. No problems either at pick up or return. We did take out the additional cover which avoids the $5500 excess, but I think this is applicable to most rentals. Still much cheaper than others. Very pleased with the vehicle and service, will recommend and use again.
After reading about the bad reviews I was worried, but from my experience the good reviews just aren’t given. Great price for a great product. Had a child seat for my 3 year old that was fitted correctly. Car ran without any problems. Clean car inside and out. Only issue was a late night pickup that was even later because the car wasn’t ready on time. Everyone else was having that issue that night too. But overall a good experience.
I rented a Maxus utility truck for 7 days and am delighted with the reliability and condition of the vehicle. I drove 700 kms on a full tank. The 360deg cameras really helped during parking. Finally, the customer service reps, an older gentleman and a bearded guy, remembered my name when I returned to their office. They were also polite and professional when dealing with me. I will definitely rent from them again.
Very pleasant staff to deal with. The gentleman at the Hobart office was extremely helpful. We booked a car in Hobart to drop off at Launceston Airport. In the meantime we decided to change arrangements and return the car to Hobart Airport. There was a reduction in the drop off fee which was promptly refunded to us, even without us requesting the refund. Would certainly deal again with this company.
Our plans had to be changed due to an office closure, however, Bargain made a wonderful effort to help reorganise and accommodate our requests as a fair balance. Upon returning we had delays in our trip coming to return the car but again they were friendly and accommodating, all while understanding that things don’t always go to plan. Will happily recommend Bargain and will be a returning customer!
I rented a car for 3 days and it was a very seamless and convenient process! It was acknowledged that the car issued to me was on the older side, and they requested for me to take photos of the car before I drove off. Bargain cars were priced competitively, though the fuel efficiency of the car wasn't fantastic, but it did its job. Thanks Bargain Cars for a positive car rental experience
Was a little reluctant to use in view of bad reviews. They were actually really good. Car was almost new and really good. Pick up got muddled in booking, but they changed easily. They wanted to upsell insurance, but didn't need it as my Platinum Visa covers rental car excesses. Price much better than competitors. Skip fuel option (it's nonsensical), just fill up before dropping off.
This place is a joke. They are under staffed. We spent one hour in a waiting room only to find the car we were waiting on still had no fuel and we were required to wait another half hour while they refueled. The lady In front of me was told that they didn’t have the car she booked, instead they offered her a truck. I would have happily paid more money for a less painful experience.
So we were initially impressed with the service and the car sufficed our needs. However we incurred a speeding fine -totally take responsibility for that - but was it really necessary for the hire car firm to charge $75AU just to pass my details on to the cops! $75 - really! All they had to do was give my name & address to the cops - totally clipping the ticket. Bad form
I can’t recommend Bargain Car Rentals enough. They were friendly, helpful and very accommodating even when we had to make several late changes due to COVID-19. Car was a large SUV which was very new, ran well and a pleasure to drive. Car collected and returned to Hobart city location and staff were lovely. Can not fault them or thank them enough
The car rental area location is conveniently close to the CBD. We had a short walk from our hotel to Bargain car rentals. The car we got had a few scratches and dents, but did the job. For the price we paid, this rental company was worth it I feel. They also allowed us to drop the car at their Hobart airport location when we left to fly back home.
Hired a car in Darwin. Most things were great. When I got home I asked them to delete all of my details from their system because of the fear of hackers. Cannot get them to do that. They just ignore me. Raises the question, are they selling client details to the scammers? Why would you bother dealing with a company you cannot trust??? RUN,RUN,RUN.
The staff were very nice. The car wasn't ready until close to an hour after I had booked it for, but as compensation for this they let me return the car without filling it with petrol - which was much appreciated. Far better value than other car hires - and if you don't mind maybe having to wait a little for the car to be ready - recommended.
Had to take our rental back to check out a light issue and these guys had it looked at right away, providing us a replacement vehicle in the meantime. They really went above standard to get us sorted ASAP with as little issue as possible, and the guys were friendly to deal with. Really great service and value compared to others.
I got ripped off by Bargain Car Rental - HOBART..take lots of photos before you move the car. I recommend not moving the car until you do. Even takes photos under the bumpers, front and rear. Dont pick up at night or if raining. That was my mistake my photos weren't good enough and I paid the price. Hope you dont do the same
Not a great experience, I rented a car and I was honest that at times when I park I hit the curb. I noticed some damage on the wheel, and mentioned to them about it. They got a quote of approx $596 including admin fee to get me to pay for it. Absolutely absurd, I would never use this company again. Extremely disappointed.
I booked a Hyundai i35 for $240 for four days. I got the worst MG. 4 speed auto. Horrible to drive and the total cost was $450. Complete ripoff. Never ever use them again. As soon as they know they have you over a barrel they will jam you full of costs and there is nothing you can do. Do not trust the guy at the counter.
I’m not sure about the other Australian states, but I’ve used Bargain Car Rentals twice in Tasmania and the customer service and quality of the cars has been excellent. The prices are very competitive too, Best I’ve come across. Thanks so much. You are my go-to when I visit Tassie for my culture and cool weather fix!
Great service both at pick up and drop off. Staff are very friendly and explained the little intricates of the vehicle. The Nissan X-Trail was great for 3 single adults, with plenty of room for us, our luggage, and all the goods we purchased on the way. Would definitely recommend Bargain Car Rentals. Sue - Perth WA
Never again will we use Bargain. The wiper blades were so old which made it very hard to see in the rain. On drop off there were no instructions on where to leave the car and they were unable to be contacted . Lucky for us Budget helped us with returing the car. The price was rediculous for such a poor car.
We had a great introduction to Tasmania when we picked up our rental car from bargain rentals. Sanjua at the counter was extremely helpful and explained all of our options to insure our hire experience was the best it could be. We thoroughly recommend bargain car rentals in Hobart. Cheers, Steve from WA.
Be careful with this company, they have people out taking photos of their customers. Totally breach of privacy. We had a soft roof rack on the car for half an hour and they sent a abusive rude email to us saying we were not allowed to use it even though there is nothing in their terms.
Thanks so much to the staff at Hobart City. They could not have been more helpful in both pick up and return of vehicle. The vehicle itself was very comfortable and very clean. Could not recommend this company in any way but professional and helpful and more importantly courteous.
What you pay is what you get! The price was a little bit cheaper than other major rental companies. Line up for one and half an hour to get the key at the Hobart office. The car makes a terrible squeaky noise all the way through. I would rather pay extra and hire from others.
Very transparent, honest and helpful. The senior gentleman at the Hobart City office was the most ethical, respectful and courteous manager I have ever dealt with when renting a car, and I have rented many, many cars. I will recommend him to my friends without hesitation.
I would recommend everyone to choose another compajy. The car i got was very good. But the service on the phone was very bad. Thay haven't send me an confirmation E-Mail first. And then they did not really made any effort to fix the problem even they ready got my money.
I was a bit worried about this rental company with these mixed reviews but my recent dealing with these guys are great. Friendly staff on phone and in person, great prices and the car supplies was good. I would have given 5 stars if they had replaces the bold rear tyre.
First time booking Bargain car and had a very positive experience. Excellent customer service, best value for money and even got a free upgrade (on a long weekend booking nonetheless). Definitely will be recommending Bargain to family and friends visiting Hobart!
Hire a car with a person with a disability. As soon as they find out a Walker was in the boot the the charge a cleaning fee taking 1 weeks pay off a pensioner. Greedy claim damage but won't do an insurance claim. Accuse people of smoking when Iv never smoked.
Excellent cars, excellent service and great rates. The staff at the Hobart office and friendly and courteous. No hassle check-in and return. I have rented with Bargain a couple of times and have been very happy with the experience. Wouldn't use anyone else.
Was hesitant after reading some bad reviews but no complaints. Car in great condition, friendly and helpful staff at the airport pick up desk and at car park drop off. Great price compared to other rentals. Would recommend based on our recent hire in May.
What a great value! Unbeatable pricing for a new, spotless mid size SUV. The car drove great and didn’t give us any problems. For a relatively small fee I was able to pick up the car here in Hobart and return in Launceston which I really appreciated.
Very good customer service! The car I initially rented from the airport, a Kia Rio, wasn't powerful enough and I requested a change of vehicle. The folks at the Hobart City outlet were very gracious and did a on the spot swap for me. Will return!
Definitely not even 1 star! Not happy and will never use Bargain again. Vehicle, customer service and complaint resolution practices are well below par. Hired a 12 seater van which was old and overdue for a service - bald tires and it broke
I recommend hiring a car from any of the other car rentals at Hobart airport. Bargain Car Rentals was the only rental company with a massive queue when we arrived at the airport. Though the staff were initially friendly, they mentioned that
We had booked and paid for our car before reading theses reviews. We were both very worried about what we might get but in the end it was all perfectly fine. We did get an older car that had done 110,000kms and had dents on every panel but
I have hired through Bargain Car rentals in Hobart several times. Service always great. Cars good and love they have not got brand new car smell! A few years older well serviced cars great for me. Great value . Pls start up in New Zealand!
We rented a very basic Hyundai I20 and upon collection it was presented well, clean and with a full tank of fuel. I was a bit disappointed that the rep did not accompany me to hand over the car and go through the damage report before we
My package was booked through Flight Centre and what a great job as they couldn't have picked a better car hire place. I met Andrew a staff member and his family in Queenstown. The check in and out were seamless and no problems occurred.
They offer good car that any other car rental company could offer the same. But the thing is, my credit card deposit being hold for like 2 month! We even brought insurance from them. It’s like a money vampire! Especially their customer
So unusual. Bargain Car rentals seemed to be the cheapest but this wasn't reflected by the standard. The pickup was very quick the dropoff was easy and staff so friendly. Communicating with company was also very quick. Thanks a lot
Our company tried them out and took out four rentals over two weeks (Hobart and Launceston Airport sites). Issues with fuel tank not being completely full, age of cars, and customer service. We won't be using them again.
I booked a car for 1000 collect. When I arrived at 1030 I was told there would be another 30 minutes wait time. At 1125 the car was finally ready. Semi regular user of Bargain - not anymore. Slack service.
Really friendly staff and great value for the rental. The car was new and clean, and the process for pick up and drop off was quick and efficient. We wouldn't hesitate to use Bargain Car Rentals again.
Very good customer service and the reception staffs are friendly. Vehicle we rented this time was excellent!! First time rent with Bargain, and had very good experience! Will book next time for sure!
Bad car rental company. We had a reservation at 9am but it was not until 12 that we got the car. Staff just told us that there is a nice coffee shop around the corner where we could wait …
I drove a 3-5 y/o Kia Carnival. Other than a sinking brake pedal, everything was fine. They gave me back my deposit two business days after I returned the vehicle. Price and service is great.
An hour wait in line to be told that our pre-booked car was still not ready. Had to wait ages longer. Like someone else said, they take your money before telling you. Disgraceful company
Great value good car.. friendly helpful staff... Negative reviews are from whingers who find fault in everyone but themselves I would not hesitate to hire again from Bargain cars …
Hired a 1.6 MG. Price was v good but would definitely hire a bigger motor next time as the car struggled on some of the mountain roads. Staff were friendly - drop off in Launceston.
I haven’t even collected my car yet and Bargain are causing me all sorts of hassle. Everything is too difficult and costs an extra fee. Very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend
Best and Cheap Car rental in Hobart. The staff are friendly. Last time, I left my sunglass in the car and think I lost it but next day they called me. Highly Recommended.
I went to hire a vehicle from Bargain for $788 and then recieved an email charging $1050. This is not what was advertised on the internet, they withdrew the deposit from
We had some admin issues after the car was returned. To their credit they admitted the mistake and it was rectified promptly. Will use them again next time on Hobart.
Fuss free, prompt and clean vehicles. Always my go to for small cans and removal trucks. The fleets is a little aged but rest assured well looked after.
This is the 2nd time we have used Bargain Rentals and they are fantastic. Great cars, smooth pickup and no fuss, super quick return. Thanks
Hired a compact suv and wasn’t disappointed. It’s cheaper than most rental cars in Hobart and included most premium or additional features.
Good price, easy pickup. Top you can return the car and drop the key through the door. Wish they told me! Clean car well maintained.
Prompt and Friendly Service, Solidity tidy, Vehicle. And easy return key slot for after hours drop off. Thanks Guys n Girls.
Friendly staff at the Hobart site, excellent modern car, super price, highly recommend
Cheapest in Hobart. Great deal and friendly staff. No insurance rip off's.
