I never leave reviews, but I was so disappointed with this place. I game in with my two labs for check ups and shots. We just moved to the area and our previous vet in Texas was my baseline. We’d go in, they’d great our pups, and take control. Naturally, going into a place with your dogs gets them exited. I’m by myself, wearing a mask, trying to coordinate two leashes, and the vet and nurse do nothing to help. We go into a room (it’s dingy. Probably clean but in no way nice), and the vet and nurse still do nothing to help me with my dogs. Normally the vet takes the leash, holds them, examines them. Nothing. I hold the dogs down as they each get shots, awkwardly while still holding two leashes. Finally, I’m so frustrated by the lack of help and honestly, interest in my animals, I tell them I’ll come back for their actual check up because it’s just too frustrating. They say okay. I check out and get a $600 bill. My dogs weren’t bad. No biting or whatever. Just as a woman, trying to hold two leashes and control two dogs is hard. Vets are used to this and normally, I get some help. So, over $600 for two dog’s worth of shots. No exam. It’s absolutely absurd. I’m never going back, and while some people love the place, I wouldn’t suggest it.

First of all, Dr. Tellekamp at Kindness Animal Hospital has been my vet for over 40 years. Measuring up to that cat expert was going to be hard for a new vet to do. Dr. T passed away this year. My big 17 lb. boy Freddie Purrcury stopped eating and drinking one morning so I took him to Avalon. Dr. Roy ran blood work and found he had pancreatitis, a blood disease and kidney failure. He was a street cat I brought in to live, no idea he was so sick. He gave me no clue. Bottom line, Freddie could not recover from the damage done after years on the street and Dr. Roy had to euthanize him for us. He shaved his arm and gave him a sedative first, just as Dr. T always did. He was compassionate and kind and apologized to my boy that he had to end his life. He rubbed his head and was so gentle with him while he was passing. When Freddie was "gone" Dr. Roy left the room so I could say my last goodbye. I have a new vet now for my tribe of 6 furbabies (cats). I have great confidence in and respect for Dr. Roy and his staff. They were as concerned about me as they were for Freddie.

I honestly would not believe a single negative review written about this place. I called Friday because my cat had an eye infection that wasn't clearing up on its own. I was afraid because I noticed blood and they got me in the next morning. When we arrived the doctor and his nurse got me in quick with no wait. He asked me what was going on and he did a quick exam, looking over my cat. He did ask me to hold the cat steady when he flushed the cat's eye but I didn't mind that I think it's smart. An animal will be more comfortable handled by its owner and I wanted to be involved to keep my cat calm. Anyway, the doctor informed me that it was an eye infection, prescribed antibiotic eyedrops, gave my cat a rabies shot, and got me checked out in a span of 35 minutes. He was quick, efficient, kind, and gentle with my cat, even remarked how calm and well behaved my cat was. The prices are very affordable and both the doctor and his wife were warm and kind. I will be taking all three of my pets here from now on. So glad I found a reliable vet in my new neighborhood!

Dr. Roy is the best doctor that I have ever dealt with and my dog Bella whose absolutely scared of everyone and has serious panic attacks if anyone other than myself and my husband gets near her because we rescued her from a pitbull fighting ring more than 7 years ago and her being a tiny Terror that I assume she was used for bait doesn't even go near a bowl and I have to feed her and give her water from a cup and by hands because I guess if she went towards the bowl to eat with the rest of the dogs they would attack her, but surprisingly she adores doctor Roy and loves going to see him. Trust me at the Avolon animal hospital on North Florida avenue it's not just about the money and I am living proof of that, him and his wonderful wife who assists him are both genuinely caring people who cares about each and every living animal as if it is their own . I promise if you go there just once to check them out, you will become a lifetime customer. Thanks so much to Doctor Roy and his wife. Merry Christmas

No nonsense, but he loves the animals. I brought in a stray today that was oozing puss from her face. I had kept her over the weekend on my catio because she was full of fleas, but mostly she was so fragile that I was afraid the stress might kill her. Clearly she's had a family before and somebody just pitched her. She has the symptoms of advanced kidney disease. I'm familiar with that so I know how to feed her and I know the vet can't do much for her, but I brought her in anyway. He provided services kindly and without any hard selling of worthless tests. And the price was more than fair. I've been going to him for so many years, since he took over for Dr Ghabor. Even though I hadn't been to him for a couple of years since my last cat, he was the first and only one I thought of when we needed him.

Two stars because they took my cat in a new patient right away otherwise 1 star. I get the no-nonsense demeanor but not to explain is another thing. I told him my cat was not eating and had lost weight. He gave him a physical exam on a cold medal table which my cat slid off of once. He gave the cat a shot and three meds to take. No idea what any of them were for until I googled them. He said if he was not better by Tuesday call. No blood work! Nothing! The next day I had to rush my cat to the ER vet. They did all the proper blood work. My cat had advanced kidney disease.

I was so worried about my dog. I randomly googled this place. As I was waiting in the lobby, I was able to read reviews. I was pleased to be able to agree with all the positive feedback. We hardly waited as a walk-in. Dr Roy thoroughly checked out my dog, listened, and treated him. The price was very reasonable. I seriously thought me or the dog would have had to give up a kidney. After asking other pet parents I know, they all had great things to say about Avalon as well. We didn't have an established vet...but now we do!

I never write reviews but I had to for this. I took my cat in for what I assumed to be an ear infection. He took a look at her ears very briefly, said nothing, and then had me hold her on a cold metal table, and gave her a shot. Wouldn’t tell me what it was (I had to ask about 3 times) He just didn’t seem to care, despite me expressing obvious concern. Unprofessional and cold. The prices are “fair” and “reasonable” for a reason. She wasn’t even given a real exam. Go to SPCA if you’re looking for REAL CARE.

It has always been a great experience and the best customer service for a grocery store, and a great place for 15 years old and up to begin molding customer service skills, responsibilities, and work ethic. The deli is great, but get there before 4 pm or 5 pm if you are buying your family fried or naked chicken and fresh sides. I almost forgot, I recommend trying any one of their subs. My favorite is the Philly steak and cheese sub on white, wheat, or Rye bread. Go get some!!!

Dr Roy saved our Boston Terrier's life. We are forever grateful for his thoughtful and holistic approach. He is a GREAT diagnostician and our dog's PC vet. Blue Pearl and a neurologist office both misdiagnosed him and he would have died had Dr Roy not recognized the issue as an infection (obv in retrospect). $40 resolution instead of $5k MRI which would have killed him due to delay of care, he was septic. THANK YOU DR.ROY!

  • Brian Alvarado

Dr Roy is hands down the absolute best Vet I’ve ever been to, or heard of for that matter. I seriously will never be able to thank him enough for all he has done for our family. He is extremely hard working, diligent, passionate about helping animals, and serving his community. There is no better place to take your loved ones.

My first visit was great! I felt comfortable and not rushed. I could tell Dr Roy and assistant really care about your pet.. I had brought treats and Doc had some too. My dog is a 4 month old Doberman and she was at ease. Doctor weighed and examined throughly. Price was right. Found our new vet

An animal clinic with a very welcoming, efficient and knowledgeable vet. It is a clean, well-maintained establishment with low waiting times. The vet here cares about the health and well-being of animals and he provides affordable care and treatment for your non-human family members.

  • Alessandra de Jesus

I don’t think I’ve ever been so sad to have my last visit at a vet (I’m moving). Dr. Roy is awesome. I appreciate his no nonsense, to-the-point demeanor very much, he just cares about the animals. Prices are super fair. I wish I could find a vet like him again. Thank you Dr. Roy!

  • Daniel Ventura

A bit expensive but worth it. My dog gets flea dermatitis every year and he gets a shot, 2 prescriptions and gets his nails clipped. The vet worked quickly and said my 13 year old big buddy was in good shape for his age. The doc is a little hard to understand but he is top notch.

  • Johnnie Jennings

No wait time. Very efficient. I took 3 dogs, 2 (Trouble and Piper)were to have DPHH and 2 for nails clippings (Piper and Yogi). The amount was reasonable. Was in and out in no time. Will be returning and will be my regular Veterinarian. Very satisfied with Dr. Roy.

  • Darian Millan

Amazing experience overall. I forgot the doctor's name but that's not to say that your animal is in good hands! He's very sweet and very knowledgeable about what he's doing. Definitely take your dog or cat to him, your animal will thank you for it!

  • Raecl Meier
