HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I am under 25 so I knew I might run into some trouble when renting a car but Ive never felt so uncomfortable renting a car! I come and the guy working at the front desk greets me, asks for my name… so far everything‘s going okay. Without me being there for more than 5 minutes he already asked me if I want to upgrade to a bigger car. I made a reservation through Sam’s Club and they only had standard cars as an option available, but I was open to upgrading for a small charge if possible. I agreed to the upgrade to a Nissan Pathfinder and that is where the troubles began he asked for my ID took down all my information and then began to print out the rental agreement. it was then that I guess my age had been flagged. He then says, “I am not allowed to rent SUVs to people under 25.” In my head I am thinking… you’ve had my ID for 10 minutes…you didn’t notice I was not 25??? I then ask him what he is allowed to rent to me. He explains that he’s not allowed to rent an SUV to me, because of some policy. I asked to see the policy in writing and he was not able to provide that to me. I then said I guess it was OK to get a standard car. he then open the drawer that was filled with keys and took out a key and threw it on the table. I asked what kind of car I would be getting. He then said a Kia forte. As a general rule me and my family do not rent Kia’s because we do not believe they are safe or reliable cars. I have rented a Kia forte in the past (because I have no other choice), and I’ve never felt so unsafe in a car in my whole life. Also I believed that that was not considered a standard size car it was considered a compact car. I told the agent that I did not feel safe driving that car. and he kept telling me that I was the only card that he had, and that he rented it to “so many people“. I stood firm and continue to say that I did not feel comfortable driving that car. I also said that I saw about 15 keys in the drawer and asked why I was not allowed to rent any of those cars. He then said that all of those cars were SUVs and that was why I was not allowed to rent any of the other cars. I guess he was able to pull some strings and I left with the keys to the Pathfinder. he gave me very unclear directions on how to get to the car not giving me the color or the plate number of the vehicle. at that point I didn’t want to ask him any more questions because he was making me very uncomfortable and I just wanted to get out of there. I got to be part of the lot in the mall that is designated for Avis vehicles and to my surprise I saw 5 standard size vehicles in the lot. obviously I know that maybe those vehicles were being cleaned or something else was being done with those vehicles but it was very strange to me that I was told that there is no other standard size sedans for me to rent one that seems not to be true. My next problem was there was three Nissan pathfinder‘s in this lot so I had to figure out which one was mine. I decided to just set off the car alarm because I felt like that is the best way to figure out which car was mine. it was very clear that Avis at this location was using older cars. my next problem arises when I went to return the car. I arrived about 45 minutes earlier to drop off my car then the set time I was supposed to have the car back. When I got to the office the door was slightly open but it was clear that no one was there. I sat down in the office and waited for about 20 minutes until the same man that it helped me originally came back into the office. When he walked in he seemed to be surprised that I was there. he said to me the door was closed, why didn’t you call me? I said the door was not closed and I did not see a sign directing me to call you. he then became very argumentative with me about me opening the door when I was not supposed to. at that point I thought extremely uncomfortable and just gave him the keys and told him that I wanted to be on my way. if I could get this 0 stars I would!
WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER! I am very familiar with the rental business as i have used Avis as a vendor often for my current company when traveling. I was in need of a week long rental. When I picked up the rental it was filthy, I had to reclean the interior once I was home. There was actual food, candy/food wrappers and empty bottles in the cup holders. It wasn’t vacuumed and there was sticky stuff on dash. Which anyone would naturally complain about being disgusted with the cleanliness of the vehicle but I was in a rush to get out of town and didn’t have time to follow up. Surprisingly, I can top that experience with sharing what has me so upset with this location. The return experience is what has me vowing to never use this location and Avis as a transportation vendor ever again. Returning the rental car, the location closed an hour earlier than what they had posted on their door. I called the customer service number and the gentleman (didnt write down name) was rude in telling me that I shouldve looked online. He provided no assistance and just informed me that the location doesn’t have a drop box. I parked the car in their lot and kept the key as I had nowhere to drop it safely. The next day I returned to the location before close and explained to the rental agent (Taylor) that I had tried to return the car the yesterday afternoon around (5:30pm) but they had closed early, her reply “I closed the door at 5 and you werent here”. Which I explained that I tried to return the car before the posted close time on the door and even called customer service to locate a drop box. She proceeded to tell me that because I didn’t return the car at scheduled time and retuning vehicle the next day that I was going to be charged two days. I agreed to pay the 1 day late charge but asked her to wave the second day charge because I did try to return before closing the day before but there were no signs posted on the door, inside the store or written on the contract that they had new hours. Taylor then stated that the hours are posted online. I explained that I wasn’t aware and when she marked the contract that I needed to take a photo of the mileage and gas that she could’ve marked new hours. Or had new hours posted on door, on sign inside store or tell me verbally. She said “there wasn’t anything she can do”.I asked to speak to a manager where she informed me that the location is franchised. I asked her to pend the transition and asked for the area manager phone number. She said she couldn’t give me the phone number but gave the email an email address. I’ve emailed the “owner kamilah” who still hasn’t reaponsed to me regarding the rental experience, It’s been 5 days. Needless to say, I am not one to write reviews but I was beyond upset and frustrated that I paid an extra $300 on a $500 rental is outrageous. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss further. Until then, I am taking my business elsewhere and letting all my friends and colleagues know about this terrible location. The rental agreement # is 658034123 and should have my contact info.
I had a two-day rental, from 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday to 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The young lady who printed off the agreement and gave me the keys was very nice, but in her own words had received very little training before being left on her own. Just as I was in the car and about to leave, she came out to the parking lot and told me she had entered my information incorrectly, so I had to go back inside, where I spent another 10-15 minutes in the office while she entered the information step-by-step while receiving instructions from her manager on speaker phone. I don't blame her; as I said, she was very polite. I simply mention this as part of the overall experience, which got worse when I returned. I returned the car 55 minutes late on Friday; the office had closed at 6 p.m. I texted the lady who had given me the keys and asked her if there was a dropbox for the keys. She texted me back No, they had to be returned in person. I left the car there and returned home with the person who had come to pick me up. I then found out they were closed the whole weekend, so I brought the keys in as soon as I could on Monday morning, less than an hour after they opened. Even though I told the gentleman behind the desk what happened and what the other Avis employee had told me, he charged it as a weeklong rental, putting another $118.41 on my bill, an extra 133% of my original charges. He told me that I could have returned it to the airport location, which I was not told before that. I told him that I was explicitly told by an Avis employee on Friday that I had to return the keys there in person. He simply said, "Yeah, if you return the car here." I would have had no problem if they had charged me for an extra hour. That's what I used. They lost absolutely no business from me returning it when I did. It wasn't going to go out yet on Friday; it was sitting in the lot all weekend; and I returned the keys early on Monday. He didn't even ask me for proof that I returned it when I said I did - I had a receipt from the nearest gas station, the testimony of the person who picked me up, the text to the Avis employee asking about a dropbox, my mileage log app on my phone, and any parking lot surveillance camera footage as proof. He simply charged me an extra $118.41 and told me, "Yeah, man, sorry for the confusion." What an insult. Did he want me to argue with him right then and there, in front of the next person in line? I of course plan on contacting Avis Customer Service, and after whatever hassle is required, I would be surprised if I received no refund. It's sad that that's how this works. They'll only help you if you're willing to argue or go through all sorts of hassle. If not, they'll gladly rob you of $100+ in broad daylight. If they don't refund me, I won't ever rent from Avis again. If they do, I still won't ever be renting from this location again.
Rental agreement Number: xxxxxxxX54 I rented a car for 1 week from Avis located at: 2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy, Suite P207 Barton Creek Square, Austin, TX. My estimated total for the rent was $422.88 however, when I returned my card, the person at the Avis desk, name- Jacob, charged me ~$8000 (about Eight Thousand dollar) on my Credit Card. After asking about the charges, he called his supervisor and after lot of arguments, the charges were corrected to original estimate of $422.88. The first major problem is: The above transaction of ~$8000 BLOCKED my credit card for all transactions made after the date due to over spending limit of the card. Due to this, I was not able to make any purchases on the card and even worst that my home bills (scheduled automatic) were getting declined. Avis was not able to resolve the issue for weeks and I am still not able to use my credit card as the Avis rental transaction is on hold by Avis. Avis did not held any responsibility. The second problem is: The behavior of Avis staff - Jacob who was very rude. Initially, Jacob was not agreeing that the charges of ~$8000 for my 1 week car rental can not be justified amount and not even possible. Then he got rude on me. Later he might have realized his mistake and called his supervisor. He still continued to be rude to me and asked me to go and inspect the vehicle and picture of mileage and fuel. I rented car from Avis for many years in past, I have never been asked anyone to check the mileage on rented car or inspect the car. This is the responsibility of Avis staff to inspect the vehicle and make note of mileage reading. THIS AVIS SHOULD TRAIN THEIR STAFF OR IMMEDIATELY CLOSE THE CENTER.
It was difficult to find it the first time if you do not come in through the Sears Auto Center entrance. Don't look for an Avis store... it is a counter in a corner inside Sears, next to the auto accessories section. They were nice and, although they didn't have the exact model I ordered online, they were helpful to provide the best match. It would have helped if they had it better clean before giving it to me. But it wasn't too bad from the previous renter, but it wasn't really clean either. I also had to come back after a few days because the tire pressure light went on. Bad side: it seems they didn't check on the tires of that car for some time. Good side: they fixed it immediately, and it took less that 5 minutes to be back on track again. Another positive aspect is that it is in the Barton Creek Square mall. If you need to wait for some reason, you can always go for a walk inside. Despite the aforementioned minor issues, I am giving 5 stars instead of 4 because of the excellent value for the money.

I’ve been renting from this location for more than a year now and on all occasions my experience with Avis exceeded my expectations in every way possible. Kifah makes sure that I always get vehicles that are in immaculate condition and swiftly processes all paperwork, ensuring a swift and efficient pickup process. Kifah and in fact Jacob, both demonstrate a genuine commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction. They have always been ready to assist me with my vehicle needs and have gone above and beyond on several occasions to accommodate my requests. I’ve been renting from this location for years and the gentleman that works there always has provided very good service. Yesterday, he wasn’t there and had some issues and bad customer service. First, when I arrived, the location was closed. After 15 minutes to f waiting the Avis employee came from the inside of the store and opened the doors. Then, as I was checking in, I mentioned about a coupon I added to the reservation for an upgrade and his answer was, “yes we have cars available for upgrades, but I already printed your contract and there is nothing I can do”. I told him I’ve been renting from Avis for years and in many instances, due to different circumstances, a new car was assigned to me after the contract was printed, but he reiterated that he couldn’t do it. Then when I went to get the car, there was gum and trash in the glove compartment and console as well as trash and used water bottles under the seats. Overall, a pretty bad experience!!!
There is a reason I give this Avis 5 stars - Excellent Customer Service. Typically if an avis rental location shuts down at 6pm they shut their doors and go away no matter what. During our recent stay in Austin, we were stuck in traffic and would arrive to pick up the car from this location by 5:55pm (they close at 6pm). New to the neighborhood, it took us a while to look for this avis rental location inside the mall. All this while we kept the person at the front desk looped in about where we were and he was kind enough to not shut the store and walk out even though we got there at 6:05pm. He was very friendly and polite and completely understood our situation. He patiently explained all terms and conditions and also helped us save some money by not taking added insurance since we were already covered through another rental insurance. All in all this was amazing customer service I was very happy and impressed with.
I received the price that was in the email. I received the upgrade I was offered in the email. The office closes at 1 pm on Sunday and because of the traffic coming out of Houston we actually dropped it off at about 330 pm. I was told by the agent that rented me the car that I had paid for the whole day Sunday so I could just keep it for the day, but when I returned the key at 8 am Monday I was charged a 15.00 late fee. This does not make sense. One agent says one thing and another agent does something else. Hertz is looking pretty good at this point.
Loved renting at the Capital of Texas highway location in Barton Creek mall! Alicia is very friendly and accommodating! We got our choice of two models of our preferred vehicle and chose the one that suited our needs. Easy check out, easy check in and reliable vehicle! There was a problem reserving online and it took 2 phone calls to figure out that it wasn't my credit card, but the software that wasn't accepting my street address. But the location staff did a great job!
The Sears desk at Sears Barton Creek mall is the best place in Austin to rent a car. I switched from always renting from Hertz. A couple times I had trouble renting at the airport but the people at the Sears location got it quickly straightened out. After renting there a couple times they recognized me whenever I went in. They always show me the car and ask if it's ok with me. That's now my exclusive place to rent a car and I rent a lot. Never had a problem.
Although I had problems with our first car (cracked windscreen) and a fault on the second car nothing of this had to do with AVIS. The man who runs this branch his name is “Kifa” (apologies if I mis spelt his name) but he is amazing! Without him this would just be a 3 or 2 star branch. His level of customer service and attentiveness to our needs will keep me coming back to AVIS A company is only as good as their people and he is amazing !
excellent service! we had a problem with our previous rental (in another location they gave us a car with a broken windshield) and Mr Kifah took care of us. He changed the car for us and even gave us an SUV for the same price. He was very courteous from the beginning when I called him with my request and then he personally took care of us. Fast courteous service and we will definetely book from this Avis store in the future.
Working with Kifah was an absolute pleasure. I got there at 5:55PM super nervous because I needed a car and didn’t know if they would close; he was very kinda and courteous and stayed with me past closing time. Then when I wanted to extend my rental but still get my corporate discount he allowed me to rebook through my company and extended the rent without me having to go back to store. 100% would recommend.
This place is on the uber app as the only place they do uber rentals. When I called up to ask about the policies with uber rentals I was very very rudely cut off in the middle of talking saying ONLY DOWN TOWN DOES UBER RENTALS. So if you drive uber make sure you book the down town location. And if you are a visitor renting.... I would suggest another location because the guy at this one was very very rude
My location in Barton Creek Mallin Austin, Texas seems like they don't have a lot of cars available. Also, you guys went up on your prices significantly to where I can't afford it even with my state worker discount. The people at this location though are superb. I mean top notch service each and every time I go in and rent. The prices are going to force me to shop around though.
I just wanted to leave a good remark for Barbara with the awesome necklace at the Austin, Texas Location in the Sears Auto Center (4001 I-35). People were swamping her non-stop, but she kept her calm and helped everyone in an efficient and professional manner. I hope someone can give her some sort of recognition for her excellent service. Convenient location (once you know the rental office is located inside the Sears automotive department at Barton Creek Mall). Very friendly and efficient agent who cut right through some problems I was having with my online booking through British Airways. Car was super clean and up-to-date with Bluetooth audio. Great experience. Will use this location again.
Enterprise left me and high and dry and wouldn’t rent me a car because I didn’t have a Austin address. Shannon was extremely nice and got me taken care of. She even helped me find the place. I’ve definitely never rented a car from inside a mall! I’ll use Avis car rental from now on. Also Avis has much nicer vehicles then I’ve ever gotten from enterprise.
This place saved me when the location on state hwy 71 called me the same day to tell me they didnt have a car for me. Kifah was quick, efficient and most importantly KIND. If you want to work with someone who still knows what customer service is, please come here. It's amazing. Just go into the mall and the location is right inside the doors. 10/10
Terrible customer service. I'd booked a vehicle and two car seats. Turned up and they only had one booster seat available. They weren't interested in helping me out at all with the only suggestion be I try calling the 1-800 number. Staff clearly didn't want to be there and had no interest in providing any form of customer service. Avoid!
I was welcomed promptly by the Avis rental agent. He was friendly and caring. He walked me out to the car and asked if this car was acceptable to me, and asked if I had any questions regarding the functions of the car. His attention to detail was outstanding. After an awful experience recently with Hertz, this was a breath of fresh air.
This Avis location particularly stands out for me because of their professionalism and kindness. I feel like I am visiting old friends whenever I rent here. Jacob and Kifah are knowledgeable and provide fast turn around times, as well as excellent customer service. I wish every Avis location would provide this level of service.
Amazingly unhelpful staff They had no booster seat for my son despite me having paid for one. They did have a Sat Nav that they said I had paid for (I have my order confirmation and I did not) but they were unable to take it off the bill. They gave me a phone number to call and said they had no access so couldn’t help further.
I always rent from this Avis location because the staff is pleasant to deal with and I can leave my car there overnight. They have always been very friendly and professional so I’ll continue to rent from here. I wish they opened a little earlier on the weekends, but I’m still very happy with my experience here. I have never had a problem with sears auto center. They have always done everything right. I was very scared the first time I went but I've been going there for three years now and never have they let me down. Now I take both my vehicle and still no problem. They are the best. Yes its a drive but its worth it..

Avoid the airport congestion and pickup your rental car at Barton Creek Square Mall and avoid the daily airport taxes too! Kifah Melhem will make sure your experience is top notch. If something comes up, you can call him at his local number and talk directly to him. A great experience overall.

The amount in the rental was much different than my quoted price. I had to call multiple times to get it reduced and it wasn't even fully reduced to the original quoted price. I was told different priced by different agents. The whole rental process is not transparent and very confusing
Automatically turned away for being 24. I was willing to do anything that needed to be done but the owner was extremely rude and treated me like dirt for being 24. I’ll never use Avis again if it means I can avoid “service” like that and keep from wasting $130.
Please be careful when renting here. The supervisor here named "Keifa" is dangerously rude and terrible at customer service. He will deny you a rental at all costs. There have already been multiple complaints filed against this individual with Avis corporate.
They charged me 3 times and when I called in , the customer representative couldn't provide genuine reasons for that action. Is a very unpleasant experience and that would be the first and last time am hoping to use AVIS . Is really unfortunate.
Kifah and his employees in his Barton Creek Square shop give superlative service. I cannot say enough good things about them! I will always come here for my future car rental needs. I highly recommend him. He made my rental experience so easy.
The service here is outstanding. The manager, Kiefer (I know I'm misspelling his name), goes above and beyond. My car was in the shop for 6 weeks and I rented from Kiefer and he made it so easy to renew my rental as the weeks stretched on.

This is my second time that I've rented a car from this Avis location. Very fast and easy. Made reservation online and picked up vehicle with no issue. Drop off was just as easy.
Trashy cars. As Avis preferred member I got a Malibu which had the front bumper broken and the car was not washed. It looked so bad from outside not characteristic of Avis.
Just perfect, they gave us a very good SUV and check in and drop off was very easy. The Avis rental office is inside the mall on left side of the entrance.
