I went to buy a cake at baked expectations with my 2 daughters—this was at 2pm, we were the only ones inside the store. We were “greeted” like we were a nuisance. We were the only customers, so it was not like they were too busy to be at least nice to us. The woman I spoke to acted like I was asking for a service they don’t provide. They provide cakes and I was wanting to buy one. The cake I ended up getting showed on the label, ‘chocolate cake’. I let the woman know this is the one I would like. she couldn’t even be bothered to mention that this cake would have bananas inside of it, and literally just wanted to rush me and my kids out of the store to carry on her amazing day she was having. I honestly decided not to let it bother me. When cutting up the cake for my sons 16th bday, we noticed it had bananas inside of it. Honestly, not horrible but you would think me asking for a simple chocolate cake, she would have let me know that it has banana in it. That should be a big part of her job as someone who is servicing up cake. I paid $75 for something that should not have been labeled only ‘chocolate cake’. Anyways, I can’t get a refund, and the store cannot even compensate because the “head baker” said no. It wasn’t worth it, and they’re so rude over there. They said, “ we’ve always been making our chocolate cake like this”. For someone who simply just walks in, who is going to be the one to let anyone know they’ve been putting bananas in there for years unless their employees are doing their jobs properly instead of being rude to curious customers. The service alone is enough for anyone to want to take their money elsewhere. Sad. I used to come here as a child and it was a better experience than the one they gave my two daughters.

My wife had asked for a Lemon Cheesecake for her birthday, as I have picked up a JRC cake the last 2 years and she really wanted something different and special. I don't bake, so ordering something has been my preferred way to get my wife a cake! I called to make a order from Baked Expectations on Tuesday for a Sunday pick up. I spoke with someone on the phone who assured me that thier lemon cheesecake only came in medium and was directed to order that size cake for $70. When I picked up the cake, I had no idea what it was going to look like and when they showed me what it was until I came home and my wife advised I had bought the wrong cake. I called immediately and was confronted verbally about the cake, with the stores person using a dismissive tone saying 'well didn't you look at the cake?' and a very snarky 'I'll tell the staff'. No options offered for return or exchange to get what I had actually ordered. Just an abruptly ended phone call. The cake for her party ended up not being very good, and was exactly the opposite of what she wanted, and not what I ordered, which is tough because a lemon cheesecake is what she wanted for her birthday. I won't be coming back to Baked Expectations again, despite how highly rated. The customer service is terrible, overall lack of accountability, and lack of accuracy with my order. This is in line with other low-star negative reviews. If your looking for a cake made for you, vice what's ready in store, I'd advise going elsewhere like Jenna Rae Cakes. Heck, Dairy Queen and Costco would be a better option. Avoid it, unless you are going to eat in.

We came here tonight to feed two six-year-olds cake for supper for an birthday treat for one of them. The staff was delighted by the oohs and aahs from the boys over the case full or gorgeous cakes and pies and were entirely on the ball regarding how to deal with them. We had a warning about the draft at the first table we chose, paper and markers to colour with before we even sat down and so much patience with our two squirrelly dudes as they settled in and picked which cake they wanted. I think the one they both chose was the slayer cake. It was incredibly sweet but insanely good and came out with a candle and a rousing singing of happy Birthday for the birthday kid. I went with the mocha torte and it was delicious. The very serious and mature male adult with us couldn’t handle having cake for supper so he went with a chilli burger and fries. He says the fries were really good and the burger was okay. Not the best he’s ever had but not bad. By the end of our visit we were wrangling a pair of excitement and sugar fuelled tornados. Staff were quick to provide us with take out boxes for unfinished chocolate cakes and slices of cheesecake to go for adults too mature to join the fun. Overall was a wonderful experience and we will be doing it again. Edited to add: cheesecakes were German chocolate and peanut butter chocolate chip. Both were heavenly.

Staff is quick and professional. Shop is clean and cake presentation is nice. Closed to dine in with take out only-this is not posted on website. Several people disappointed. Cakes are heavy on icing and not much cake. 4 people, four different cakes. Nobody finished theirs-but not because of the portions which were on the small size. Pictured on 8 inch plate- as sliced. Another “Winnipeg Institution” that somehow manages to get 5 star reviews- is it nostalgia from first dates and a trendy neighbourhood? Is it high prices that make one convince oneself that it’s yummy and worth it? I can’t figure it out. Schmoo cake-left with a dry mouth and a sore stomach Vegan/Oreo- waaay too much sweet icing-pretty sure it’s just Betty Crocker icing (vegan too). If not - it tastes EXACTLY the same. Slayer cake- best of the ones we tried Crazy Chocolate-Enjoyable but the smallest portion Carrot Cake- waaay too much cream cheese icing - with Barely any sweetener- if you like eating cream cheese on its own by the spoonful you might like it because there’s very little cake. It was busy so I guess they’re doing something right, but I won’t be back. Worth trying once and you make up your mind if it’s worth another visit.

‘’Baked Expectations’’. To my opinion, hands down the best cake shop for me in Winnipeg at Osbourne village. The cakes tasted amazingly soft and creamy. Being a Cheesecake & Torte lover myself I couldn’t help but take a few slices of the different irresistible cakes! While there are many options from Caramel Pecan, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, German Chocolate, Oreo Cookie, Apple Bavarian Cheesecake, Cherry Royale and the list doesn’t stop...my personal two favorites are the ‘Shmoo Torte’ which had angel food cake with lots of pecans, loads of whipped cream and tons of caramel sauce! And you can also get extra caramel sauce to go along with it if you desire. And the other - Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake which had mocha cream sandwiched between thin chocolate layers and was topped with whipped cream! The presentation of all the cakes in this shop here are just awesome! Overall I would definitely say this place is a must visit if you’re here in Manitoba. It surely exceeded way beyond my expectations!

I had the fabulous opportunity to celebrate my 25th birthday here tonight. The cake was phenomenal (undeniably) but it was our server that REALLY made the experience. Such a kind individual — her name was Kamellia (forgive me if I misspelled). She was so warm and inviting when I sat down, and after quickly learning we were celebrating, made me feel SO special. She was incredibly attentive, shared wonderful suggestions and even helped snap some photographs for us!! Closely alongside our server was Carlos, a manager I believe, who was SO kind and pleasant — he made me laugh so freaking hard. More can be said, but ultimately, this place feels like an extension of friends and family. Let this be your sign to GO <333 Ask for Carlos and Kamellia!!!!

I tried schmoo torte in my first visit as it was described as the iconic cake in Winnipeg. Well, it's a Canadian version of pecan pie except pecan was mixed with cake with caramel on top. Pretty ok. But I'm more impressed with Pavlova which is a merengue based cake with strawberries, cream, and condensed milk filling. It strikes the balance of sweet and citrus tastes. They both went well with hot tea. I went with Hazelnut Merengue in my second visit. Its sweetness is so overwhelming that I can hardly taste the hazelnut. I paired it with rootbeer, which was a bad move!!! The staff is friendly and helpful. The environment is decent. Can be suitable for dating even. Parking can be tough especially around the rush hours. Overall, it was a great experience and it set me in the right mood for what I was going to try. Highly recommended

Wow, wow, wow!!! I’ve been coming here for 30 years and the place still takes my breath away! Freshly baked cheese cake and other hugely creative desserts…there is literally too much to choose from (and that is a positive!!!). This is a Winnipeg icon that you HAVE to experience even if you are here for just one day. Our server Jordyn was spectacular. She made sure everything was perfect, even bringing a second cappuccino out because she was worried the first one just didn’t finish correctly and may not have been perfect. All of the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and made us feel like we were the most important people in the world. It is always a pleasure visiting a well run establishment that takes pride in their product. The desserts looked amazing and the taste even exceeded our high expectations after that!

  • Luna D. K.

Very delicious cakes - so many varieties of cheesecake and normal cakes. I almost like everything I tried here, but my ultimate favorites are the mocha torte and tripel salted carmel cake. Portions are huge, but the reason why I am giving this place 4 out of 5 is because of the price. It's about $10 per piece after tax, which is quite expensive. The price has been going up the past several years noticeably. Delicious cake, but I don't think the price is justifiable. I used to get desserts here quite often, but now it is only for special occasions - a couple of pieces of cakes here can get you a decently good full cake at other good places in Winnipeg. They are also CASH OR DEBIT only!

  • Niranjala Senanayake Storm

Our server was not customer friendly. She had previously cut pieces from somewhere and gave them to us instead of cutting and serving it from the cake itself. We saw that and requested to be served it from the original cake for a take away. But she ignored it. When this place charged expensive prices the expectation is to get a fresh piece served, not leftovers. Who knows how long it was sitting it on a plate from where and why. I felt really uncomfortable. Maybe Winnipeg has very few places to get cakes for a this kind of shabby unkept place to have high ratings. I wonder about the owner not treating staff well might be the reason for staff force to serve old cakes.

I have lived Winnipeg for many years & never been to BE until this past Tuesday evening. It was everything I’ve heard ‘n more. I was having a hard time to decide which dessert to have. I kept flipping between two. I settled on Oreo Cheese Cake while my friend chose Salted Carmel along with a Pink Lemonade to drink. I was amongst give clouds with my first taste. I took my time each bite to enjoy the flavour to the late bite. This will not be my last visit. Who wants to go with me. Cheers I love the drawing on the windows. That’s a cool & personal tounch. This place was busy ‘n at one point there was a line-up to get seated.

  • Arishya Aggarwal

I went in to get a birthday cake for my birthday party, and I am sad to say, the staff were so rude. They ignored me for the first 5 minutes, and not because they were busy. Then, when I asked if I could see the cakes available, she said no and just listed the names of the cakes. How am I supposed to get a cake based on the names? Why can’t I see the cakes available? The staff was very rude about it too and acted like I was an inconvenience to her day, which really didn’t make me feel welcome or happy. Kind of sad that this happened on my birthday. I am only writing this to provide some kind feedback to the business.

  • Anna Glibka

It wasn't my first, but definitely the last time I went to this place. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars for the cakes, but ZERO for the customer service. I can get they are not selling smaller pieces, but refusing to cut a piece of cake, which I already bought makes no sense to me. I would get it if they were busy, but I was the only customer at that moment. I came with the intention of ordering drinks and spending some time over there with my daughter, but after conversation with the staff, all I wanted was to leave and never see them again. And now I kinda understand why there were no other customers. Just sad

So I got the chance to visit my old haunt from the 80’s. it did not disappoint! The classic 50’s vibe and the delicious selection of cakes to fit anyone’s taste!!! I will let the photos do the talking. We tried 3 different ones this time and they were all heavenly. The photos of the restaurant look a little sparse but that’s because of the COVID restrictions, it is late March 2022 and the restrictions are done as of April 1, in most of Canada. Masks are optional everywhere except hospitals, airports and federal government related departments I believe.

  • Todd M.

I hadn't been here in over a decade. I remembered it as a local institution. A great place to go for dessert. We came here recently with friends from out West. One of our friends is an ex-Winnipeger & was really excited to go back to BE. We were all really disappointed. Lack of selection, under staffed, not a lot of seating. The cakes we bought weren't very good either. A few slices had been pre-cut and were pretty crusty. I'm not too sure if the ownership is the same, but it was on overall disappointing visit.

  • N sar

Our server Camilla was very rude. First when we sat down, we were told to sit at a certain spot and the entire place was almost empty. She made us feel very uneasy and rushed. When we got our dessert and drinks, she rushed back in 5 minutes with a bill (just assumed that we are not going to order more), and we only had 1-2 bite. Honesty she gave us the racist vibe, and made it clear that she wants us out asap. Poor service, stay away from here.

Always love it here usually a bit of a line up to get in but well worth the wait. Service is quick and friendly. Portion sizes of their desserts are large enough to tame any appetite. The Tia Maria torte is a must try and the salted caramel cheesecake is incredible. Selection of desserts gets a little thin the later you get in the evening but that is to be expected. Dont get discouraged if the one you want isn't there anyone you choose will be just as enjoyable

They didn't have much gluten free options last time we went which was disappointing. Been around forever unchanged. I like that but prices were pretty high and options were fairly limited for celiac. Only one option was available.

After going to baked expectations dozens of times in my life I'll never go back. The owner is not a nice person. When I complained their spaghetti and tomato sauce dish tasted tangy and flavorless she told me I'm not used to quality food. It was incredibly insulting. Their cakes are always dry. Their staff are usually clueless and not attentive when you dine in. It's overrated and shouldn't be supported.

  • XIAOJIE ZHANG

I like the way they make tortes. Cream are not too sweet, and I like the caramel torte, eat with Americano, definitely worth to try. Last time we order one whole Crazy Chocolate cake for my daughter’s birthday, she also likes it. If you are a chocolate fan, recommend. It’s good they provide dine in. So you can order one piece of cake and some drinks, sharing afternoon tea time with family and friends.

  • Michelle Penner

Been there a couple times. I’ve had a cheesecake and a torte so far. To me, the price and the quality don’t match. If you’re going to charge that much for the food, you’d better make sure it’s good. The lemon on the cheesecake was amazing, tart and creamy. The cheesecake itself was a bit dry and not creamy. The mocha torte was pretty flavourless to me. Maybe their cakes are the way to go.

  • Yewen Tan

We went there for afternoon dessert. The coffee was good and the cakes were very good. We had dark chocolate cheesecake and coconut cream pie. They were well made, not too sweet, not too greasy, they were just right. We're very happy. We went back there after 4 years away from Winnipeg. The cakes are still delicious, the staff is still super friendly. It's really to nice to be back.

  • Jo Smith

My husband bought me a small tia maria torte for my birthday here. He paid $50.00, so not remotely cheap. While delicious, I could not believe how insanely small it was for that price! It was maybe 6 inches across. Very short. I remember this torte being far larger many years ago. How things have changed. For that reason, I don't think we would order from here again.

Soooooooo yummy....but it'll cost ya. You get a massive slice of cake but one slice can be $10. We got two seasonal cakes, the Pavlova and Strawberry Chocolate and they were divine. Of the two we enjoyed the Pavlova more but the Strawberry Chocolate was amazing too. The coffee was excellent and the service great (we forgot to tip :( ) and would definitely come back for a treat.

  • AMENEH R

I used to come here often and the customer service was great. so was the cakes!!!! You used to get them for 8$ for a big slice but unfortunately after the pandemic, the price changed and so did the cakes…I was having a rough day so I thought to go get myself a cake and the cake not only had hardly any frosting, the quality and costumer service has gone downhill unfortunately…

  • Ben Carr

Just an excellent place for desserts and cakes. We had the chocolate strawberry mousse cake, the deadly chocolate mousse cake for dine in and ordered a crazy chocolate cake to take home. Just delicious, all of it. Dine in service was good. Only downside is finding parking at busy times but that’s not their fault, just an observation. Definitely worth a visit for cake lovers.

  • Ferenc Tar

What a playground for the sweet of tooth. I Was going to eaty way through it. But my wife said start with one and work you way up from there. So we had the chocolate chip soaked in coffee liquor and milk and lemon cheesecake and a strawberry cheesecake to take home. The service was prompt, the cakes were OMG good. They also serve bergers and other foods. Well worth the stop.

  • Susan Kowerko

We arrived around 9pm. There was a bit of a wait, and it seemed like we got there just in time as there were quite a few people after us. The dessert are rich and decadent and probably best to share unless you love your desserts. ❤️ The service was great and prices were pretty reasonable considering the portion size that you get. I would definitely recommend desserts here.

  • Nikki B

What a fun dessert place. 40 years plus and still the best chocolate mousse I've ever had. Mocha torte was light and delicious, not too sweet. The vegan oreo cake was tall and fluffy with light vegan butter cream - the icing was overly sweet but fine if eaten with cake. It was St Patrick's day, so lots of geen icing. Yum. Cappuccinos were great (ask for it dry).

  • Micah Oswald

Amazing place for cheesecake! All cheesecakes are baked fresh everyday, customers always seem happy and enjoying their desserts while inside. Also very happy to see they have some Vegan cheesecake options that are equivalent to the regular cheesecakes, you wouldn't even know! Highly recommend Oreo cheesecake as it is my favorite from this heavenly place!

  • W .Barhoum

Very very nice place, great design and it has a variable cake choices. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is full and people are waiting in a long line to get it. Cakes are delicious- food is prepared in front of you. (Food isn’t good as the cakes) . Parking is an issue in Osborne. But definitely a place to have a good cake and coffee.

  • Carmen Huang

Cute place. Good service, depending on the time of day you go it could be empty or busy. Pretty good food/ deserts, however just overpriced in my opinion. Sizes are small for what you are paying for and I've been there a few times, and it has become less of a place we would want to choose because of how much you pay and how much you actually get.

  • JC

Terrible experience. Staff was disorganized and scattered. Hostess told us to get our own tables and when we looked, the available tables were all dirty. Only 4 deserts were available to choose from. And our coffees took 20min to get. There was only 10 people in the restaurant! What happened to this place? It is not what it used to be. Terrible!

Went on a fairly busy Saturday afternoon with my wife and daughter for the 2nd time and 1st time in 7 years, so I don't remember much of the place. Got seated and served right away by a super sweet elderly waitress. Ordered the Tia Maria Torte and got a chocolate cake... and instantly got addicted. Dessert and service was awesome. 5/5

One of the best bakery in town. I used to frequent this place before the pandemic and it was one of the most lively places that used to stay open till 2am. Sadly the pandemic has slowed this place down too like everything else. Please make sure you have a hard copy of your photo ID because they are very strict about it.

  • MJ Baz

Absolutely the best cakes I have had. Atmosphere is a bit uninviting, and cold. Music was too loud, and there aren't enough tables for the amount of room and necessity. Service was decent, not great. We showed over an hour before closing and the cakes were already being packed away. Very expensive. Latte was excellent.

  • Martha Holmen

Had a slice of that day's speciality, a vegan Oreo cake that for some reason nobody else had touched yet! It was delicious, with moist, chocolatey cake and creamy icing with Oreo crumbs, plus Oreo crumbs on the outside. I'm not vegan but I couldn't tell any difference in quality between this slice and a non-vegan cake.

  • C Farion

Oh man!!! Still a stellar place. We got here very late at night, midnight or so after dinner down the road- and they served us what was left - amazing to take away the yummiest cakes. They have us generous portions and made the night perfect. If you get a chance to you should visit and get some cake …

  • Ebby

A personal favourite of mine. Staff here are polite but I wish they would be more personable. As this is famous mostly for its amazing dessert, it would be great to feel that unique/professional sweetness from its staff. It would make the experience all the more appealing and worth looking forward to:)

  • Kara

I never get tired of coming here. I love the atmosphere and can always try something new. I original tried the Chocolate Banana Pie which had a big lard taste to it but was okay tasting but this Lemon pound cake was to die for as well as the coconut cream pie if you want something lighter to eat …

  • Dorothy Anne Patterson

My brother and I went to get cheesecake for his birthday a little bit ago. We had a lovely server, and when our cheese cake slices came out, we had gorgeous pieces. We were both super excited to dig in, and we were not let down. We even ordered a slice to take home to our mom. (Not pictured.)

  • Kris

Rude service both times I went, I also had my son with his friends for his birthday and they charged me an extra dollar each piece of cake to package them separately. The cake was dry and gross so I’m glad we didn’t get more. Spend your money somewhere else with better food and service.

  • wpg.foodie on Instagram

They always have delicious cakes served on the daily and a favourite of mine is the strawberry cheesecake and red velvet cake. The wait was kind of long even though there wasn't that many people that day. They do offer savoury food as well such as burgers, fries and salads.

  • Laurie Sodomlak

Mmmm - The Slayer Cake (AKA Salted caramel chocolate layer cake. It slays you with it’s insane deliciousness!) was our latest purchase for a family birthday. The combination chocolate and caramel created a heavenly choice. We were amazed at our ability to cut this cake!!

  • Aneen Zaman

Baked expectations is actually how you expect your cakes to be Such a good option for Birthday and Occasional cakes. The place gives you neon vibes @ night and have cutest boxes ever for their food. We got our favourite Red Velvet and it was 10/10 Recommended!☺️ …

  • The Mothman

Stellar cheesecake, it really does stand by itself. On the other hand don't advertise that you're open until 11:30 when what you really mean is "open till 11:30 if you order through DoorDash". At the very least make some indication of that. It's not a very good look.

  • Ella Fontaine

I always come here when I come back to visit home from. The best carrot cake I've ever had, anywhere (I have been searching for something that comes even close in NYC). I have been coming here since I was a toddler and I still love it - not just the cakes, either.

  • Elisa

I really enjoyed the cakes at baked expectations. It is a very well known and popular spot for dessert. The pavlova, hazelnut cake and the cinnamon torte were absolutely delicious. I haven't tried all of the them but I don't think you could go wrong with cake.

  • Michal Brichacek

We order takeout from here regularly and are a big fan of many of their cakes. We’ve also dined in here as well for both their food and desserts. Best cakes in the city for sure! My personal favourite is the Tia Maria, but they have a ton of great options.

  • Christelle Tan

The cakes are absolutely delicious here. We loved the dark chocolate cheesecake, coconut cream pie and strawberry cheesecake. Definitely recommend this place. About 8-9 bucks for a slice, and the slices are very generous! Great service here as well.

  • Jimmy Hinze

Was there this afternoon. First time in 30 years. Used to live in the Peg. Now back for a visit. Schmoo was just like I remembered it. Staff was friendly and service was great. Didn't mind paying the extra for 4 separate slices of Heaven in boxes.

3.5 Penne pasta with artichokes etc. served with garlic toast. 4* Bowl of cappuccino. 2.5* non moist choc cake with whipping creme layers with pieces of strawberries and a whole strawberry & solid chocolate sheet on top of cake. Attentive staff

As good as ever! We celebrated a family birthday here last week with a round of cake and coffees. The cakes were beautiful and delicious. The staff were helpful and attentive. Definitely recommend to all the sweet-tooths out there.

  • Алёна Пахомова

Amazing place with a lot of tasty and what is really important - different cakes. Stuff is kind and always ready to explain more regarding cakes they cooked. The only one negative side - you cannot pay by credit card there.

  • Diksha Kalra

We recently went to baked expectations and tried their red velvet cake, mocha cake and German cheese cake and all were really tasty. The cakes were heavy and we can’t even finish one. The place is really cute. Must try.

5 Star taste, 3 star servings. I paid the same $13 per slice as my friend did, yet her piece was much larger. Can your staff start being more consistent with portion sizes please? Then at least I know what to expect....

Ruined my birthday. I was having a great day, and the staff here is god awful. Literally the LAST place anyone should go to for their birthday, which is pretty stupid considering this is a cake shop.

Always serving delicious cakes! Definitely worth trying whether you want a whole cake or just a slice. Cute dinner type decor on the inside, so worth sitting it for a slice of cake & coffee or tea

There was a sewer smell when we walked in and flies buzzing around us. It was grungy looking. We had a great server but another staff member was rude when I mentioned the flies. Won’t go back.

Great desserts as usual. Prices have increased. Decor has changed. No longer serving food in restaurant which was disappointing. But still great place for meeting up for dessert.

Best cheesecake in Winnipeg! Get ready for a wait or no seating at the bakery since it’s so popular but the cheesecake is excellent!

One of the places I miss the most since I moved away. Absolutely the best cakes I've ever had. Might visit Winnipeg just for this ;)

Nice staff, decent cakes, lots of choices; however, way overpriced. 10$ + tax for tiny piece of cake in cute box. What a rip off !!!

Service is meh. Parking is difficult in the area as it is in the Village. This is a popular joint and dessert is pretty good.

The staff were spread a little thin as the place was busy, but they provided good service. We all enjoyed our desserts.

Cake and pie choices are superb and the serving size was great. Really comfortable dining experience.

Delicious local dessert spot! Tons of cakes, pies, tortes and more!
