My experience at Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital during my honeymoon has left me utterly dismayed. As a medical professional who has worked in war-torn areas for years, I expected more efficiency and compassion from a hospital with "Memorial" in its name. Sadly, I've been met with incompetence and indifference, making this ordeal even more infuriating. After enduring five excruciating hours of waiting, I still have no access to the medicine I desperately need for my ear infection. If I could have received the necessary medication without the hassle of getting a diagnosis and a prescription, I would have never bothered coming here. It's deeply disappointing to experience such bureaucratic obstacles when seeking essential medical care. As a non-Australian citizen, I understood that I wouldn't qualify for Medicare and was prepared to pay for my treatment. However, my wait has been endless, and I'm left feeling neglected and disheartened. This hospital's lack of consideration for patients' time and the frustration it has caused me on my honeymoon is absolutely unacceptable. If you find yourself in need of medical attention in this area and are not an Australian citizen, I urge you to reconsider visiting this hospital. The wait times and lack of efficient service have marred my honeymoon, and I wouldn't wish this frustration upon anyone else. Seek care elsewhere if you can, especially if you value your time and expect better treatment, regardless of your expertise or background.

The nursing staff and the Physiotherapy team in the rehabilitation unit are very caring, but rarely had time for me and would appologise. I did not fare well there with my twisted pelvis from a bush walking accident. It's sadly underfunded and short staffed. A lot of their equipment needs replacing. It's all falling apart. Most things, even the blinds need replacing. They only offer exercise physiotherapy and don't have the funding to employ Physiotherapists trained in muscularskeletal therapies. The food is awful, especially if you are a vegetarian as I am. There are patients with dementia wandering the corridor and the toilets often had pools of urine on the floor. The head doctor needs to learn communication skills. Hopefully she will be replaced. I don't recommend this hospital.

Brought my 6month old daughter in after she had an allergic reaction. Went in and saw a nurse, she sent us back to triage to wait but asked us to let her know if anything changes. My daughter started throwing up everywhere and crying I asked the triage nurse (Susan) for a towel or tissue, she screamed at me when I couldn’t hear what she was mumbling. I have no idea what she shouted. People in the waiting room where shocked someone said she Shouted at me saying she wasn’t my cleaner. Susan, you need a career change and should not deal with the general public. Will only come here if it’s an absolute necessity You don’t need to be empathetic, you just need to do your job and not be nasty. Staff are to protected

Over the years I have raised some issues about this local hospital, both publicly and in private. Today, 12th June 2023, at 9.30, I needed to take my wife, who suffers from Dementia in Parkinson's, to emergency department. I wish to state that the receptionists, nurses and, above all, the Doctor who attended to my wife in the waiting room (Dr G.), exhibited so much kindness and understanding of our predicament, that this short humane enounter nullified all previous concerns and negative experiences I entertained about this hospital in the past. I wish to thank, in praticular, the triage nurse and the attending doctor for their extraordinary kindness. It is professionals like them that make a hospital great.

After a full knee replacement operation at Nepean and 3 days later a fall I was transferred to Katoomba rehab. From the time I arrived I met happy caring staff. From the nurses to the physios and the meal ladies I cannot say enough how amazing they all are. I’m currently spending my last night here and heading home tomorrow and as much as I can’t wait to be home I will miss these amazing people! These beautiful people are over worked but still smile and laugh with their patients. The feeling of family is huge here and I feel blessed I spent a week with these wonderful people. Thank you Katoomba Rehab! I’m sure I will see you when next knee gets done!

OK guys and gal's, in my 65 years of my life I have never been in hospital and I have always been afraid of having to go to hospital for whatever reason! So you can imagine that I have been very worried that I have to go to day surgery at Katoomba hospital. You guys are incredible!! The moment I walked in at 7am till I walked out again at 1pm I felt looked after, cared for and the staff was so very friendly and helpful and very professional. Thank you to all the staff at Katoomba hospital, from receptionist to doctor, thank you... and you deserve more money!

I rarely ever review things but feel as though I need to leave a good review to this hospital. I came in , not in a good way and the beautiful staff treated me so well, especially with empathy although the pain I was in was self inflicted. From the lady at the front door to the lovely nurses at the front ( I wish I could remember the young male nurse at the front who handled me all night) he was fantastic and attentive. and the triage lady walking around, you all made me feel so comfortable and cared for. Thank you!

Arrived at Emergency at 3am Sunday morning in a lot of pain..waiting room was empty, staff were friendly, I was seen by a very capable doctor who engaged well with me and sorted everything out perfectly, from examination to advice, pathology, scripts and work certificate in a timely but unrushed fashion. I was very pleased with the experience and, as a nurse and midwife, am very aware of the difficulties there can sometimes be in providing excellent care. Well done Dr Horvarth and Katoomba hospital staff.

I had day surgery there today and cannot fault my experience. Very friendly, professional and caring! I took one star off for the rude anaesthetist who asked me a few sensitive questions just as I was becoming conscious. It was unnecessary, rude and embarrassing. The entire recovery ward would've heard. We've also taken our son to ED twice, one resulting in a 5 night stay in the childrens ward, we were all treated extremely well. Overall I think it's a great little hospital.

Disgusting maternity ward. They claim they are non invasive and focused on a more natural based antenatal care. I haven't found this to be true. They constantly change my due date, they have incorrectly diagnosed illnesses in pregnancy, repeated scans, Dr Vik Sharma is absolutely useless inventing a new due date which was some sort of an error but has stuck and caused me problems all pregnancy. They are horrible and I wouldn't let my dog give birth there

My 3 year old daughter attended the emergency Because she hit her head and was bleeding. She was very well looked after by the friendly and helpful staff and doctor. When my daughter was screaming hysterically, she was given a bear knitted by the volunteers and a cape (Vyie, Cathy and Sue), calmed her down and cheered her up. Dr Bala and other nurses did a great job in stitching her up. I am very grateful that my daughter was given so much care and love

Attended for day surgery today. The nurses and staff have been professional, friendly and personable throughout each step of the booking process making today very smooth. The surgeon was lovely and ensured I understood everything and had no questions or concerns. The after care by the nursing staff has been wonderful - they genuinely care and want you to be comfortable and have looked after me so well. I appreciate you all very much! Thank you team

We brought our son into Emergency today after him fainting at a local Cafe on our way to a holiday and every single staff member working here has gone above and beyond in treating him. He was taken straight through and tests were ran so quickly and thoroughly. Every single nurse and Doctor that we have seen so far has been amazing. Everyone has been so accommodating to our whole family and we could not be happier with the care that is being provided.

I took my 24yr old son to Katoomba hospital after experiencing extreme vomiting for hours arrived at midnight. The staff were so attentive and caring. The doctor on was amazing ensuring that all relevant test were run immediately to ensure there wasn’t anything serious underlying. As they thought perhaps he may have Appendicitis. Finally diagnosed with gastroenteritis. It was the best experience I have ever had on any public hospital visit.

Personally I think it's one of the best hospitals I've ever had the pleasure staying at it sounds weird saying it's a pleasure to stay at but all the staff are lovely and kind and more than helpful, even when they are clearly rushed off their feet all the nurses and cleaning staff and wards persons are just lovely always kind and considerate and you actually feel like they have made time for you couldn't recommend more

A systemic culture of distain towards Patients and family members. Made us feel like we were an inconvenience, allowed my daughter to scream in pain and showed no empathy. Administration staff member was extremely rude and hostile. I am in the process of lodging a formal complaint and as a nurse I found the situation very distressing, unprofessional and basic neglect of patient care.

Day Surgery Ward was truly amazing, all of the Nursing Staff were so friendly and efficient. I had cataract surgery and I was quite anxious but the Nurses alleviated all of my concerns. Thank you so much, you turned a stressful time into a much easier time and it is truly appreciated. Thank you also to the Doctors that were involved, you are an amazing team.

  • Taylah Angel

The front desk ladies are always extremely rude in their manner each time we have been there! Honeslty need to find new staff that actually care and have empathy for you as your in the emergency for a reason but couldn't care less. I will say Some of the doctors and nurses are lovely though and makes your hospital time a little better

  • Tanya S

I had both my babies there. Lovely staff who helped me deliver my baby. I found one midwife pushy and rude but most were nice. Reenie was my midwife and she was absolutely wonderful, supportive and kind. If she sees this, she should know she is wonderful at her job! I will always remember her for that reason.

  • Caroline Moses

Thanks to all the staff in the day surgery unit where I had a procedure yesterday. In spite of all the paperwork they had to complete, my admission was very smoothly & efficiently handled and I was in and out in about 4 hours. The nurses and doctors were all polite, caring and compassionate.

Love this hospital! I've been there a few times when I was injured, the staff are super amazing and smart and incredible and always do their best. Once I cut my finger really deeply and they did such a good job qt glueing it that there is only a tiny barely visible scar left. Amazing!

“Senior Doctor” needs to take a few lessons in compassion and perhaps go back to medical school. If you go here pray to every god known to man you do not see the “senior doctor”, he’ll make you feel like you should’ve just died instead of seeking help.

  • Vickii Wilson

I had a day procedure 2 weeks ago and I can't speak highly enough of the care I was given, all the nurses and doctors were so lovely, explained everything in detail. Thank you to all the staff, you do a fantastic job with so much kindness. Cheers

Edited, 24-9-21: There are some lovely staff at this hospital, that work hard at caring for the community. And, during Covid, the demands on them have been enormous at times. Thank-you kind hearts for your professional care. Sadly, there is

While the health staff, nurses and doctors, here are caring and amazing, the reception staff when you first attend emergency are terrible. A dark hair woman with an American or Canadian accent was so rude to me when I presented at emergency

I have always found the staff at the BCI Sunflower Clinic within the hospital to be amazing. Thank you to Tracey today - you make an unpleasant few minutes very easy with your lovely personality. I have also had to take my elderly mother to

Actually kinda shocking overhearing nurses speak in earshot about how your presence is a waste of resources. I went in with food poisoning at 2 a.m. after three days of vomiting and with bruises on my stomach, unable to keep water down due

Find plan B for your emergency and don't rely on this place. All what they care about is to follow protocols... where there is no space for care of human life value. I asked a question at the reception and got bullied. They want you to be

Came here for more of a minor injury. However staff in all areas where professional and helpful. Very impressed with this hospital. I feel like it was better than a Sydney hospital. Big thankyou to all staff here.

  • Alayne Minns

The Rehab team took amazing care of my 88 year old mother after hip replacement surgery. Can’t thank them enough for how they looked after her. I sent the team a chocolate bouquet to express my appreciation

  • Paula DEHOMBRE

I couldn't fault the Emergency Department. The staff, nurses and doctors look after their patients with great empathy whether the issue is minor or major, everyone gets treated wonderfully.

  • Patrick Cole

The staff at this hospital take 6 hours to make a decision then act on it 4 hours later. How dumb and slow can people possibly be? Katoomba hospital says hold my beer I'll show ya

  • Joshua Barakat

I was here for a day surgery. Truly the kindest, friendliest staff I have ever met at a hospital. They are truly thorough, helpful and understanding every step of the way.

  • Visda Dewi

The best hospital ever. Doctors, nurses, and staffs so friendly. I have been look after well like a family. Thank you so much for your love, care, and hard jobs.

Had day surgery, for cataracts on the 22nd June, the nurses were great. Explained what they were going to do and kept me warm with the lovely warm blankets. ☺
