Boofy's is the best pet specialty store I've ever been to. I also think the owner's knowledge helped save my cat. My Siamese at age 8 was getting thinner and thinner, and no one knew why. I spent $300 on lab work which was recommended by the VCA for possible hyperthyroidism. But all his tests came back fine. I then spent another $500 pulling a "rotted tooth" that the VCA said would help him. Instead, he became even more lethargic and deathly skinny. He was not interested in his food. He would nibble on his dry food all day and eat approx 1/4th of a can food per day. Each week he puked or had diarrhea. He developed itchy sores on his face and neck that bled. I saw a second vet's office who recommended that I try him on raw chicken meat and raw liver. He wouldn't eat it. The VCA offered to do another $300 for an x-ray and ultrasound of his tummy, to see if he had any internal cancer in his digestive system. However, I could not spend more money for "guessing." I decided to check out alternative medicine as a last resort. I heard about pets who develop both environmental allergies (which he has), as well as food intolerance. By doing a search, I found Boofy's Best as a local specialty food store. That is when I met Lisa, the co-owner. She explained all about food allergies and intolerance, why my cat might not be eating, and why he has itchy sores. She started him on an elimination diet with limited-ingredient, preservative and filler-free, all natural can food. That was about 6 months ago. Since then, my cat has gained about a half pound, now eats like a horse and wakes us up in the middle of the night if his food bowl only has one bite left (meaning he is sure to starve to death soon ;-). He has regained his energy and has "kitty-gone-wild" times each day. Boofy's Best helped save my cat's life. They are more knowledgeable and successful than two professional vet's offices!!! And cost a lot less. I am forever grateful to the people at Boofy's Best for Pets!

I cannot praise the owners and staff of Boofy's highly enough. When presented with a difficult health issue with one of my cats, Boofy's went above and beyond on more than one occasion to help me find an apparently tasty food regimen to improve my cat's health and well-being. If not for Boofy's I truly believe my wee girl would be dead and my vet concurs. Boofy's has a generous customer loyalty program, superior customer service, great selection of food, toys, etc for your pets, and they give back to the community in multiple ways. They work with a few different pet charities and are generous with them, as well. Boofy's is a great pet store and the owners and employees are just damn good people, to boot. They are simply one of the best locally owned and operated businesses of any type in Albuquerque. Note that they do not sell pets though they foster felines for a reputable cat rescue and those cats may be available for adoption. Update to add that Boofy's has been a particular blessing during the pandemic. We call in our order, pay over the phone, and Jeff or Lisa will shuttle the order right out to the boot of our car when we pull up. This has been especially helpful for my elderly father who is trying to stay as safe and socially distanced as possible. Boofy's has always provided wicked-good customer service and they've shone even brighter (if that's possible!) during these difficult times. It's Boofy's or bust for us!

The best of the best of the best! Great experience working with Jeff and all of the staff at Boofys. Jeff is truly knowledgeable and takes all the time you need to make an informed decision about food and treats for your pup. The food we used with our first pup didn’t work out with our new 2nd pup. He special ordered the product I wanted to try after consulting with First Mate/Vet and exchanged for the product that didn’t work without hesitation. This food is working perfectly. With a career in medicine I often am unable to make it to the store until right before close at 8pm. He didn’t rush me and answered all of the questions I had. Lastly want to say FirstMate food is the best food on the market and Boofys can special order any of their specialized products if they don’t have it in stock within a few days. They will call you when it arrives and they are competitively priced. Why settle and support big box stores when you can have all of your questions and concerns addressed, buy the best for your pup, and support local business. I live on the NE side of town and it is a bit of a drive but it’s worth it!

OMG, I love this place. We recently moved from PNW, we were looking Forbes place that could carry all our pets specialty foods. We were looking for Ostrich leg bones for our dogs, that Clarks use to carry but no longer. Now Ostrich bones are size of Cow bones, but weigh only 1/4 of there’s. They don’t splinter and my two little dogs love them. We told the staff what we were looking for, they took our information and called the owner to inquire about these leg bones. The owner said he use to get them but no longer due to distributor no longer carrying them. We left the store not thinking anything about it, 3 days later they call me and said they have a Femur and Leg bone waiting for us. They Inform me that the owner was not going to back down from a challenge and found them and order it. We felt so appreciated and surprised that they special order these bones for our two two dogs. We really like this place and thinks it’s awesome that the owner is willing to take care of there customers, even if it’s a strange request.

The first time I went it was just to get some idea of what I would need to welxome two 8 week old puppies into my household. They were freaking awesome at helping me know what I would need and didn’t look at me like I was stupid for not knowing what I would need. Becuase of the awesome customer service I decided to go back to purchase everything I would need. All be a little more pricey than box stores the shopping experience far outweighs the small price difference. Went back today for a third time to do their adoption package they offer and I assumed it would be like PetSmart where you have to pay a feee but still get a good discount. WRONG!!!! They give you at NO COST!! A small bag of food, bag of treats, some wet food, supplements and another bag of frozen food. Holy hell i I could give this place a million stars I would. HIGHLY recommend:) also the one on San Mateo has a resident cat named hambone and he is just the fluffiest cat you ever did see !

Boofy's is indeed The Best for Pets! I've been a customer since moving to ABQ in 2014. When I was looking to switch my dogs' food due to a change in the parent company of the brand I had been buying online, I asked Boofy's for a recommendation. I had reviewed dogfoodadvisor.com, but I was still having trouble selecting a new brand. I wanted to stay with a dry food that offered a good amount of glucosamine and chondroitin. Boofy's considered my request and got back to me with several possibilities. I chose Open Farm Senior Recipe, and my dogs love it. Also, no one treats customers better than Boofy's. The staff are always super friendly, super helpful, and super invested in the welfare of animals. Went inside for the first time to shop for my dog's 1st birthday. The staff were super friendly and helped choose the best treat and cookie/cake. When I mentioned it was my boys birthday, they threw in some free treat samples! My dog really enjoyed their dry freezed duck duck goose! Not only do they have treats, but they have everything you basically need for your furry friends. Definitely me and my pups new favorite place to shop. In the photos: 1. Absolutely hooked on their "buy X# of bags, get one free" program! This helps with 2 huge dogs that can each eat a large bag of dog food in 1 month. It also keeps my business instead of shopping at Amazon for their food and treats! They also give me 5$ off for every X$ that I spend on their food. The staff are very knowledgeable about the ingredients of the dog foods which was helpful when trying to find a reasonably priced large bag of chicken free food. I really like how they have events often in the store and have brought my dogs for a fundraiser/dog wash. They have a few kitties in the back of the store usually that they are trying to find loving homes for. This place is a true gem and my dogs and I feel so lucky to have found them!

I'm a travel nurse, here from Florida. So lucky to have walked into this place! They recommended a great dog food for our Doberman that, amazingly, both of our VERY picky senior chihuahuas love! Always helpful, but stopped by one night after work, not realizing the close at 7pm. However, there was a gentleman coming out of the store, loading his own dog food into his car. I asked if they were closed. He replied yes, but what do you need? I said I buy such and such dog food, and we are out . He said " let me finish loading my car and I'll take care of you." And that he did! An hour after closing he turned the register and lights back on and checked me out Not too many people here in Albuquerque would do that! Amazing!

Our first time in was right after we found out our cat had kidney failure. We were a little lost and had no idea where to start. But right after being greeted, we told them about this and the associate printed off a list of approved foods and personally walked us around the store to show us all of them. Our second time, they helped us pick a supplement out and answered any questions we had, even called us after we had messaged them on their website. They made the process so much easier, and only after a month our baby is doing so much better. Really feel like we couldn't have done it without their help. This is absolutely the BEST place to get pet food. All of the staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Jeff and Lisa have helped me with issues with multiple dogs. I had a dog with urinary stones and Jeff took the time to look at all the ingredients in multiple dog foods to make sure we weren't feeding him anything that would make it worse. He even printed me a list of foods to avoid. I've had dogs that didn't want to eat and they recommended the stinkiest and most nutritious foods for them, and it worked! People have asked if my 10 year old dog is a puppy, because he is so healthy. They really listen to your concerns and care about your pets! I will never go anywhere else. Thank you!!

Started coming here for my puppy and realized they had great options for my cat as well. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful to first time dog owners too! Their bed/crate selection is a little small since they’re not a big box store but this is the perfect place for recurring purchases such as good quality pet food, toys, and treats. It’s sad to see several negative reviews about a mask requirement that they have no control over. I appreciate that they seem to care about protecting their employees as well as the local community around them, providing hand sanitizer and cleaning protocols.

Boofy's is THE BEST place to go to resolve nutritional issues with your pet. They have natural options to help in the management of allergies, dry skin, obesity, even diabetes or IBS. Even if your pup or kitty is just a picky eater. They will give you a ton of information and are happy to talk to you for as long as you have questions- you won't feel rushed out the door. Of course they also have a rotating toy selection, and other supplies, including supplements and CBD. Anything you need to keep your pets happy and healthy!

If you miss that good old small business feeling where they know your name and pets...and genuinely care...then this is the place for you. They always have great advice and do their research. Boofy's was excellent with my dog, they even gave me some treats to try with him that he loved. I have only been in there twice because of my work schedule, but there foods and treats are more organic and healthier then when you go to the chain pet stores. There staff was excellent and even gave me information on how to get my dog to a certain level of "service dog". I don't need a service dog but the training has worked great for the both of us. Bring your pet here they are great!!

Working with dogs and after doing research I realized that I wasn't giving my dogs the proper nutrients. I didn't realize the damage cheap food can cause. After visiting your store and getting a much better food thanks to your assistance and adding the fish oil and raw food to their crunches I had 4 very happy dogs who for the first time in months slept all night long. Thank you so much from the dogs and one happy mom. I will be sure to tell our clients to go see you guys.

You can find supplements here, priced well and a large selection of foods, treats both bagged and animal product chews at prices that beat any PetSmart or PetCo. Consider it on your next supply run, support local, and spoil your little fur babies for a low price!

Large selection of high quality pet food. Cats in the corner kennel for adoption are super cute and fun to watch play. Super friendly and helpful staff, incomparable to Petco or PetSmart. They ask what kind of breeds you have and help you decide which foods would be best for our fur babies. It's a one stop shop for us, wet, dry food and snacks, toys, accessories and litter. Also has frequent buyer program with better perks than a chain store.

Seems to have decent prices on their food, the service was exceptionally friendly! Great selection of items too! The only downside for me is when I gave them my email address they told me it would be just for internal purposes, but I have since had a barrage of emails from every food manufacturer and pet toy maker on the globe. Like the day I gave my email address, so I would take that with a grain of salt.

Jeff and Lisa know their business and are also great folks running a locally owned family business. I have 2 cats. One has health issues and the other one was just persnickety about her food and treats. Jeff and Lisa helped me find the right food that my cats like and that is also healthy for them. Very helpful, knowledgeable staff. I love that you can call say "hi, I'm ____ can you get my usual bag of cat food, dog treats, and guinea pig food ready for me to grab around 2?" Then, you can pay over the phone, call when you pull up and they'll run it out to you My kids also beg to visit their sponsored cat whenever we're in the area, and the staff are always kind with them.

When our favorite dogfood changed their recipe, we knew we needed to find a new brand. We were new to Albuquerque and found Boofys through a Google search. We talked to them about our search for a new food and they were able to advise us. They have a great selection of premium foods, locally made treats and toys. Everything you'd need/want for dogs, cats and even chickens!

Staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They especially knew about their products which you don't find in traditional big box pet stores. They have many unique beds, foods for cats I have not seen elsewhere. They have several different types of catnip to include an organic "silver vine" that my cats love. Also seem to quite a selection of dog food/accessories.

My allergies are not as bad since we changed our dog's food. Also, my wife's cat is getting old and almost stopped eating. After talking with Boofy's, we changed the cat's (we have 2) diet. Now the older cat is acting like a young energetic (an believe it or not, not as skittish) version of herself. HUGE difference. Saying they do a great job is an understatement.

They did not give medical advice but rather helped us and gave us information. I would recommend meeting and asking if you have questions about your pet or products on the market.

I asked Jeff and Lisa one time about why they didn't carry a product that I saw at a big box store. They said they were unable to verify the originating source of the product (one of those products that say Made in the USA but in actuality is deceiving because the originating source is China). Our dog is allergic to basically everything and we were having a very difficult time finding her a good food. Nichole and Scott spent quite some time helping us making sure we found the perfect food. This was a great place to find homeopathic fixes for pets. I found some chews for my dog that are supposed to help with stress from thunder, fireworks, etc. The clerk was very helpful in making the best choice for my pet. Looks like they have a lot of other items that you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere. I will be returning.

I had just adopted a cat, and recieved a coupon for this store, and decided to use it for some cat food. I certainly do not regret visiting this store! The staff is so friendly and helpful! I got some advice on how to start a raw diet for my new cat, and quite a bit of cat food for what I paid. Definitely will go here again!

This is the only place I go in ABQ for my dog food. First of all, the owners and employees are wonderful and knowledgeable about the variety of pet food, toys, dog chews and whatever. I sometimes bring my dog in there and he's a big Alaskan Malmute. They love him up. He enjoys going in to socialize. Check this place out!

Great local shop! My cat required a special raw diet and I could always rely on Boofy's to have his food in stock. My cats now eat Earthborn Holistic food. Boofy's participates in their TerraCycle recycling program so when I need a more food I can return the old plastic bag and know that it will actually get recycled!

This is one of the best pet stores in the state because of the amazingly friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful staff. They have a wide range of foods ands toys for my dog. Oh my goodness! If your family has a cat, you know the struggle of finding a pet store with CAT related items. You may find a few items but they are all generic. This place was amazing, and PRO cat. This is the best local pet store! Great selection of items for cats and dogs. I personally go there for the great cat toys, they are the only local place that I know that Carrie's the Yeooowww cat nip toys and these are the biggest hit with my cats. Staff is very helpful and friendly!

We originally went to Boofy's because we were at a loss of what to feed our extraordinarily picky dog. They sent us home with a literal grocery bag of free samples to find something our dog would eat and time and time again have helped us find the perfect product for our pets.

Have been coming here for about a year. It’s the only place in town I can find my cats freeze dried raw food. I’m so thrilled Boofy’s stocks high quality pet food for cats. The prices are nearly identical to Chewy; so pricing is very fair and I can get it the same day!

The best pet store in Albuquerque we are lucky they are local too. Plenty of dog treats, toys and food varieties. The cat toy selection is a little lite but I think my wallet appreciates that. The staff is always friendly and willing to help.

Staff is great the selection is great and the prices on food are better then the mail order companies online. The only negative is they have a cat coop in the back of the store and some people have severe cat allergies.

They have great products, a knowledgeable staff and an awesome loyalty program. They're mainly dog and cat based, so their options for small animals are limited, but they excel in service and quality for dogs and cats.

Staff is super friendly and helpful. Their dog washing stations are fantastic and at a reasonable price of $12.99 (price as of 09/2022) for a half an hour. The little extras they provide are very nice.

They have a wide variety of dog food/treats that are reasonably priced. Everything else is pretty limited otherwise. Wish they had a slightly better array of grooming tools, shampoos, and supplements.

This place is an absolute godsend. So many wonderful snacks and treats that always seem to be rotating new things in, awesome rewards programs for a lot of the food, and the kindest people I've met.

Don't go in if you are a person of color. There is a staff member who will follow you around the store and give you dirty looks the whole time you're there. She was did this to us and others.
