This station is okay. The (current) station was built between 1983-85 (when the Station St. railway crossing was abolished), and other than the PTV signs, it still looks like it's from 1985. The decor is old. The entrance to the station is exactly the same as it was during the 1990's. The only difference is that the signage is PTV, and also that Paper Tickets and 'Scratchies' aren't accepted anymore... In fact, if you put back the old 'MTA'-style signs on (white text on a green background), retile the rest of the platform (the seating area still has tiles) and some old Harris/Hitachi (or even early Comeng) trains (with the 1980's MTA logo) and remove the gates, it could almost be 1985 again! There are escalators, stairs and a lift to access 2/3 but only a ramp for 4. There are four platforms. Platform 1 - Has been inaccessible since July 1984. It was only used between 1983-84, when the crossing was being abolished. The McDonalds is now where the access point for the ramp that leads down is, so it's no longer accessible. There is no track/infrastructure and only minimal lighting on this platform. Platform 2/3: This is the main (Island) Platform. It's been concreted (it was originally tiled). The displays are the original ones from the 1980s. The platform isn't particularly clean, but it does have good shelter (as with all platforms at this station) and an okay amount of seating (there could be a little more). There is a platform food store, which has the same selection as any other store of this type. Platform 4: Only used during peak times. Facility-wise, it's the same as Platform 2/3 (excluding the lack of the platform food store). The 'Next Train' TV screens (at the platform and at the ticket gates) are the same ones from 1985, and are the last remaining of its type, as far as I know. Overall, it is usable but is slightly aged and may need a renovation in the future.
I love the accessibility via this train station to the Box Hill Central Shopping Center. Its so easy to get straight inside the shopping center off the train. Has lots of eating/shopping options. The little one loved the play center but my one gripe is that I could not get onto the free wifi at the Shopping Center after about 50 attempts! Not even the McDonalds "Wifry" where I bought the little one an icecream would come on. I asked the security guard in the shopping center and he said its real bad. Apart from that its an enjoyable shopping centres with a few sections to it - the mall and the other building when you walk through the mall. Lots of variety shops/good food/services etc. so getting directly into the shopping center via Box Hill Station is the beauty of the whole station :-)
SURPRISINGLY BAD STATION GIVEN THAT IT SITS BELOW A MAJOR SHOPPING CENTRE Box Hill station is on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines. Trains are very frequent and even the express trains always stop here. The station is ticked away at the back of the Box Hill Central Shopping Center (entrance next to McDoanlds in the food court). The station is old and dingy with no services inside and a confusing entry. Normally, platform 1 at Metro stations takes you to the city. Box Hill *doesn't have* a platform 1 so head instead for platform 2! The station has myki machines out front to buy / top-up your myki card. The platforms are in the basement so you need to go downa flight of stairs (or a small lift) to access the trains. The station is also an interchange depot for buses.
This train station is unsafe!!I got acousted by over zealous religious people on a number of occasions outside!! Lifts here an issue as instead of steps should be replaced by them. Best thing about it bear some shops & tram stop. Trains are not as regular & not totally reliable & given express trains aren't frequency reliable (only certain times of day when they are)as to & from city-Melbourne stops. Takes so long on trams too!! But as it turns out it's further away from Melbourne anyway.
Transport hub and unofficial Mandarin capital of Melbourne with loads of Chinese, Asian restaurants and shops. Box Hill Central has a market with fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish along with the usual Woolies, Coles and speciality shop offerings. Short walks from the train bus and tram hub to Box Hill gardens, the hospital and the large RSL. 20-30 minutes from Melbourne on any of three trains that run through Box Hill .
good stuff box hill station... every time i ride the train and reach box hill station, there is something with the rails that cause a little bit of shaking with the train carriages... makes me feel like i'm about to see the light... but then i realise it's boxhill station and there is hardly any light... i'm surprised the drivers can see the railing at this point... must be why it gets shaky... but, yummy food... good stuff
The wide variety of restaurants, fresh produce, and retail stores, are significantly negatively affected by the poor management of this centre. It's outdated, grubby, and hopelessly overcrowded, especially the parking lots. Every year it becomes busier, and every year management fail to improve the infrastructure. What a shame.
For locals its a popular station with convenient shops around it and its a station that is a transport connection for buses in the surrounding area. it is old and could use some renovation and signage better. You have to go up to get buses which wasn't expected and had to for directions.
This station is always staffed and has a very busy bus station integrated plus a good no fuss shopping centre. Commuter car parking fills very quickly but it's fed so well with buses and trams. This is how public transport should be. But it should have free WiFi.
Spoke to a lovely gentleman at Southern Cross transport hub the great review I was told that I could get my myki card balance transferred even on that look up in the computer but Lindsay said it Box Hill that that can't be done so a bit of misinformation
Good station under cover with quick take-away food available. Safer the some other stations as its inside Box Hill central. Also worth noting an extraordinary amount of ticket inspectors are at this station everyday. Likely because they are
The staffs are so rude, I have top up the Myki balance on PTV app and didn’t realized it take time for the money arrive. The lady in Melbourne central station let me in after knowing the situation, but when I am out of box hill station, a
Train station is a little on the old side and can take a little of finding but once you're there inside the shopping centre you'll be fine. No public toilets nearby. You'll have to go for a strut to the food court for the bathrooms.
I always feel safe here, staff are plentiful, friendly & helpful. A special thanks to young Tony, so very kind & considerate to this old lady on a very hot day. He invited me to sit in comfort in the enclosed V line office.
Visiting from NSW. Wednesday June 6 around 2pm, got fantastic customer service from the young lady at the information booth at the train station. Very helpful, pleasant, professional and enthusiastic. Grateful thanks.
A new playground, just beside the food court, for kids is recently established which includes multimedia facilities. Kids can spend couple hours there while parents can have a cup of coffee or lunch with peace.
This is a big transiting station for trains and buses. Very convenient if you don't have to park your car, use a toilet or need somewhere to sit while waiting. Everything is old and desperately needs an update.
For Chinese and Asian people it’s a good place to shop but don’t go to coles and Woolworth in Box Hill. The place is big and have long history. There are many food sellers in the centre and near it.
Security needs to be improved. As a female, waiting at the bus stop terminal can sometimes feel quite uncomfortable. Maybe more staff presence would help. Buses are mostly on time which is good.
This train station was unlike any other train station I have seen in Melbourne it's like experiencing a whole different country. Everything is so bright and colorful and full of life.
Its a good size shopping center where you can get just about everything except hardware, electronics and white goods. Parking is a breeze nowadays. Pandemic is partly to blame.
Being directly beneath Box Hill Central, this is not just the only mode that makes Box Hill the PT Hub of the East. It's a gem of its own with reliable services and amenities.
Nice mall with lotsa Chinese food, and Asian household items. Prices can be a bit steep here in the mall, so head out to the streets for other Asian food which can be cheaper.
Too many people talking there own language and it feels like I don't understand what they are saying and most shops are Asian and I can't read their menu's at all.
Popular place for marketing.....fresh meats, seafood, groceries, fruits, vegetables etc. Eateries are aplenty selling Chinese dishes, fried fritters, buns etc etc
One one the main train stations in the Easter suburbs. If you have chance, get off this station and have a look around the shops. It's worth it.
Trains from Belgrave and Lilydale stop here, so services are frequent. I like how the platform exits right into Box Hill Central.
It's a good mall. Located next to the train and bus station. My highlight was it's Chinese market and food. Loved it
Passenger observation works well, but station is very old and could be modernized. There's also very less lightning.
Underground train station, the timetable screens could do with being replaced. Has a mcdonalds walk through though.
A train and bus station connecting the surrounding areas, both are just above the shopping mall and food court..
Honestly the public transport people are so rude and do nothing to help. they just sit behind a glass window.
This station is wonderful, but it needs a large refurbishment, and they better change the platform numbers.
worse the customer service By a man without any service skill and not wear mask correctly, disappointing.
Good connectivity, trains, trams, and buses are all here! All kinds of stores and restaurants too!
I don't hate just angry, when i go box Hill nearly all is Asian food its ok but not all the time.
The bus terminal is third world. No toilets, people standing around smoking, noisy and dusty.
It's a good place. It has a lot of Asian influence, my perception is that it's Chinese.
Staff always friendly here and very convenient access to all shops outside station.
Staff make my day, always give a laugh, when i trying to navigate the Tunstall.
white homless boy living in cardboard box told me he grew here, u flew here
A convenient transport connection, but could do with a bit of a renovation.
Box Hill Central is my main banking and food and transport hub!!!
Would be great if they separate the bathroom from the food courts
Saw a junkie try to break into the drivers cab of a train once
awful shopping centre that my mates brother somehow likes
Safe from rain. Other than that, could use a lot of TLC.
the dirtiest district. 随处可见的人吐痰 乱扔杂物 最没素质的区 拥挤 没礼貌的人特别多
Nice place for all shopping needs. Plenty restaurants
Most of the Chinese shop and Chinese restaurant there
住むには最高の都市と言われるメルボルンの中において、さらに最も住みやすい街。環境、人柄、すべて素晴らしい。
