!!!DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I made the mistake to rent a van over the weekend as it was cheaper than the other rental companies, it was the first time I rented with them, Upon checkin I found out the van was filthy with rubbish inside, the tank was only one line above empty, couple of warning lights on the dashboard, number plate lights not working, and a leak inside the van. Inspection of the vehicle was very rushed went through the big visible bits in a hurry and get you to sign the form so if you missed anything be sure they will charge without any discussion. If you do need to hire from here, make sure to go through every little stone chip and mark where they say "we wont bother with that" and get it on the hire form otherwise they will charge you for the existing "damage" when you get back without any discussion. Go elsewhere for piece of mind.

I booked a Van hire to move house on the friday, I called a week in advance to book and they said they had a van available. I had the conversation with them and asked if it was ok to drop back on the saturday morning they said that that would be fine but they close at midday on the Saturday. I said that is ok no problem we would drop it back before then. We book the van, all sorted... or so I thought. Thursday comes, the day before we move, and I have a voicemail left from them to tell me they are expecting me to pick up the van, I explain it was booked for friday they were very unhelpul and dismissive telling me that it was my fault 'why would we call you today if you didnt book it for today'. We are now left with less than half a day to find a van for moving, as if it isnt stressful enough. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!

My experience, I rang up to book a long wheeled base van for moving house and was told that a van was available. Had a phone call the day before moving house to check that it was still needed which I thought was very efficient but weird because it didn't fill me up with a lot of confidence as it made me think "have they over booked?" or that there was an issue at the time. To find out on the day, travelling to get the van that the "Van broke down" and had no other vans which felt like a pretty poor/cop out excuse. The gentleman on the phone gave me no help or any advise where to try and get a van from at such short notice. If you're reading this, be very careful when booking - yes it's cheap and affordable but NOT RELIABLE.

Friendly, but incompetent. First call was told vehicle would be available for my required dates: asked to reserve. Second call (to pay) - next morning - the vehicle was no longer available on the first day of the rental period. Reserved anyway from following day. A few days later, being one week before the reservation, I received a call asking when I wa coming in. The operator had mistaken the weeks and the dates I had explicitly reserved were not in fact available. This has left me needing to find another suitable vehicle over a bank holiday. Suggest training staff on diary management and listening skills.

The gentleman that answers the phone is the most rude, obnoxious person you will ever speak too. Just the service alone would put me off ever stepping foot in this place. He’s patronising and makes you feel small he isn’t there to help you at all. Don’t know if he is the owner but he needs the sack as he is the person that is dragging the company down. Such embarrassing attitude coming from someone that is suppose to be a grown man. Update: no this isn’t a scam review. Others reading it’s up to you if you chose to believe or not but I am sure you will understand when you speak to this man

I’ve been hiring cars from Phil and Co for around 5 years now. Very decent and honest people providing amazing service and great value for money. Another review mentioned stone chips. I have hired many cars with stone chips and little dings and dents, when they say “we don’t worry about that” they truly don’t. I have never had a problem. The cars are lovely and new cars as well. Approx 10% of tImes when there is a quick turn around the vehicles are less clean, (a quick vacuum and it’s out again,) but I have never had a very filthy car in all these years. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. 5/5

Absolutely brilliant. Chuffed to bits today with the service and the new van I hired. Phil was really helpful with vehicle spec and suitability for my needs. The hire was sorted me out at very late notice (20 minutes notice!) as he picked up the pieces from another company’s failure to book me in properly. Bristol car and van hire is only small company but they have large range of vehicles to choose from, from small cars up to mini busses and Luton vans. Their prices are very competitive, cheaper than most other hire places in the local area. If you're after a hire car for a holiday or a van to help you move something large then give them a call. The booking process is simple and the owner very accommodating. I've been hiring vehicles from them for a while now and highly recommend.

Rang up to enquire about renting a van for a day. To be fair the man on the phone was flexible about the times we could rent it for and initially seemed quite friendly but got quite funny when I said I'd wanted to ring one more company to compare the price. Said 'oh so you don't actually want to rent a van then' in a really stressy way. Pennies are tight at the moment and I just wanted to see if 62.50 was a good deal or not. Don't think it deserved that response.

Contacted them via email and got an informative response back which was great. I then decided to call them to get some more information and the person i spoke to was quite abrupt. He sounded like he didn't want to be on the phone at all. Whilst trying to ask questions he'd cut me off half way through and didn't give me much information. Cannot comment on their vehicle hiring services as i didn't get that far, this is purely a customer service review.

On picking up the small car the staff were polite, friendly and helpful when I forgot a letter with my address on, offering an alternative method. The car was easy to drive and I had no problems. I was specifically told by the guy who hired me the car to not hand the keys to anyone but to put them in the key letter box (which made sense to me!), but on dropping the car off a rude man told me off for doing that. Apart from that man a great service!

Hired a Luton van for 2 days. Booking was simple and van was fine. Prices are good, and mileage allowance and return times are better than anything else I saw. Don't know what the comments about them being rude are about, Phil was very friendly and made the whole thing painless, which was great as I had plenty of other stuff to worry about with moving house! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use again.

Booked a tail-lift van one week ago to move garden furniture from my recently deceased mothers house. A great price for the one-day rental that I needed, with extremely helpful and courteous service, thank you Nigel for the service I received yesterday. Very pleased I chose Bristol Car & Van Hire. Next time I need a rental I know exactly where to come. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

I,ve used them in the past and its ok. I do wish they would operate a full fuel tank when you pick it up and then you return it full, rather than empty and return empty, as your consently watching the gauge. The van I had showed to warning lights on the dash but it didn't conk out while I had it. They didn't mention any breakdown cover, so I wonder what would have happened if it had.

Have used these guys a couple of times and would recommend as one of the best in Bristol. They do the job very well - competitively priced, good range of vehicles for doing moving and pick up jobs. Straight forward and easy service, and no sense at all that they will try and sting you for made up damages etc (unlike some larger and better known vehicle hire companies).

Rented vehicles here every 6-12 month for the last 6 years or so for house moves for me and family. Each time I've felt honestly quoted, well looked after and the vans are always great for the money. I love that there great flex with dropping off out of hours and decent treatment then it comes to weekend hires with flex pickup and drop-off times. Would recommend!

Despite using this company a couple of times, the man who owns this company is so so rude and abrupt. It's so unnecessary. Having just spoken to him again over the phone with an enquiry, once again, to no surprise; he was just disgustingly sarcastic, impolite and rude. ...Not the best way to maintain or gain good working relationships.

Hired a Luton van with a tail lift a little over a week ago to move house and was very pleased by the service. Easy to book over the phone, helpful staff when I picked the van up, very modern van in great condition and the day rate was the best I found. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.

Can't recommend them enough. Super easy booking process, straight forward to collect, friendly team, van was perfect for my home move, used it for 2 days. Good off-road parking to leave the car. Price was half (if not more) of what the big brands want to charge. Definitely go with these guys instead!

Booked car when in Australia a few months before arriving. Picked up car on the day. No hassles. Easy transaction. Very friendly staff. Car was super clean and performed perfectly for the next week. Dropped car back and left after a thankyou from staff. Highly recommended and very affordable.

Bought a car from them (the car dealer PHIL4WHEELS is part of them) which became faulty soon after. The gents there took it for a repair and then again but the fault persisted so, asked for a refund (within first 2 months) and got the money back with no problem. Friendly and helpful.

I've used this company for many years. They have a wonderful personal touch. Great value is given to customers. Very professional, warm and very helpful. I was introduced to them when another company let me down. It's the best thing that ever happened and I've never looked back.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Booked a van for a large catering event, went to collect and was told there was no record of my booking. Not even an apology and was made to feel as if I was in the wrong despite showing evidence of the booking. Absolutely shocking service!!!

Scammers , sold me a roof rack for a ford transit , but after contacting rhino, it's not even for a ford, rang back and the owner was rude and told me no refund, I traveled 100 mile's each way, go elsewhere Rodney and delboy , you have been warned

My second time renting a 9-seater from them and I'm very pleased with the service, and I received. The prices are excellent and I would definitely recommend getting a quote from them, especially if you plan to rent for a week or more, as we did.

I Hired a van in July and paid with a debit card.In september another payment was taken from my account without my knowledge.I have emailed asking for an explanation but was ignored.I wont be using them again
