Front desk worker was friendly and personable and gave us lots of good info upon finding out we were tourists, and car was clean and in good condition. However: waited 45 mins in the line and then just over an hour outside in the parking lot for our call-up vehicle, the latter of which is unacceptable. Asked multiple car-running employees for help, and was reassured that the car was coming, that we were in the right spot, that there were a lot of call-ups were waiting for a long time so we waited too. Some staff said they would look, some said that the car might still be in maintenance. The parking lot was hot and there were no chairs. There was a tiny lil building that said Avis with a desk. It had aircon: GOOD. I didn’t go in at first because I didn’t see employees there the first two times I looked. At the fifty minute mark I barged in there for help. The customer service workers were helping lots of customers and frankly I don’t think they had the opportunity to give me a good experience, since all they could do was radio for someone to look for the car. Finally an employee who wasn’t even in our section offered to look for the car and bless her because she FOUND it. She’d probably seen us waiting for an hour looking pathetic: we’d just finished 10 hours in planes and airports and were hungry and exhausted: we waited from 2:12 till 3:20, at which point she found the car. This was Friday the 15th September 2023. She let us know that we’d been waiting in the right place and everything, just some drivers didn’t know where to park the call-up vehicles. This was enraging in part since id done multiple loops around the parking lot and couldn’t find the car. 1. It is unacceptable to have people waiting that long without a waiting area with chairs and shade and aircon etc. 2. Pretty sure based on the line length and how long other people were waiting, tho none so long as us as our car was in the wrong spot obviously, and how frantically all the staff were working, that this branch is desperately understaffed. Mistakes are understandable but if you don’t have any staff available to fix the mistake, that is unacceptable. Yes hiring more staff is expensive but also I will never again use budget based off of how heinous and enraging this experience was. None of the other car rental companies in this complex were nearly as busy. If you are disabled or have a baby or for some other reason can’t wait in an exposed parking lot for an hour without that being hellish, I’d say don’t risk budget. And my last suggestion is for budget to do a better job training their employees. Anyways I’m going to reach out to budget to see if they can somehow improve our experience or take accountability, and if so I will add that to this review, but I doubt they’ll do anything like that.
This is a complaint about the management of Budget Car Rental. The stuff we dealt with were all very kind, but very overworked. We rented a car during the balloon festival which is an annual event bringing approx.1 million people into Albuquerque. How can Budget not plan for this with extra staffing and cars? We waited in line over 2 hours as there was only one person Working at the desk. Then, we waited for 45 minutes to receive our rental which never showed up. The staff at the outdoor office found us an alternative car in the same class which we gratefully accepted in spite of a huge dent on the driver side fender from an apparent collision.. As we exited the lot, we had man who checked our receipt make a note on it acknowledging the damage. On our drive to our destination in Santa Fe we noticed the car had a noticeable shimmy when it reached the speed limit. The next day we went on a day trip to some Cliff dwellings and then noticed that the tires were all bald. You could see steel treads starting to show through one of the tires and most had several gashes. We changed our plans for the day and headed home and called the local Budget office. They told us they had no cars available and couldn’t do anything for us. They suggested I call roadside service which I did. They were very helpful and arranged for us to exchange the car at the local office. That part went very smoothly. The replacement car was very good. The woman who helped us through roadside service was very accommodating. I understand it was overwhelming because of the balloon festival, but budget should have planned better as it’s an annual event.
Just absolutely horrible. I waited in line for almost an hour before they could get me a car. Originally, was in the line for Avis, but the guy couldn't get the system to work, so he moved us to the back of the line in Budget. Once I got up to the front, he couldn't figure out my booking. I had the car for 16 hours... not even a single day, and he wanted me to pay $511 including the deposit, when the rate was only $85 a day. When I asked him why $511, he got flustered and sent me to the guy next to him. We had to start ALL over again. By this time, it had gone from 11:15 pm to now passed midnight. The new guy quoted me $153 - for 1 day!! $153?? When I asked him why it doubled from the last guy, he told me that because now it's past midnight, that rates changed. It wasn't my fault that they took so long and now the rates had changed... Then I told them that I wanted to prepay for gas. I figured I was prepaying for only the gas I used. Had it been disclosed to me that they were going to charge me for a full tank of gas, even though I returned it with 3/4 of gas left, I would've just done it myself. They charged me $70 for gas... On top of all that, they charged me a $2 surcharge per day... so petty. So here I am, when I originally agreed to rent a car from them I agreed to $85... now I'm stuck with a bill of $287... so ridiculous. I will NEVER rent from Avis or Budget ever again because they do not treat their customers right. I don't care what you say or how you get to it... it is ethically wrong to charge someone $287 for 16 hours of use of your car. Budget ABQ, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Despicable.
Our entire experience with Budget/Avis for our recent rental car was absolutely unbelievable and unprofessional. It started from the pick up, which took over 2 hours.. (there were only 2 employees working on a busy Saturday). Then when we finally made it to the front of the line, the employee that was handling our rental was rude and refused us the car because we asked why he needed to run our credit card for a 3rd time, when we pre paid for our vehicle weeks ahead of time online and had already given it to him to run when we first approached the counter. This unprofessional employee yelled and screamed at us and threatened to call security if we didn’t go outside to talk to his manger… the entire situation made no sense (and I was VERY happy to talk to this individuals manager). His erratic behavior was alarming. We finally got our car and it was dirty on the inside and outside. But at this point we were approaching 3 hours… we just wanted to start our vacation. Upon return of car, there were absolutely no employees to be found. Not the usual return process at all. We had to leave and run to make our flight. Fast forward a few weeks, we receive a letter in the mail stating that we are being charged CLEANING fees for the “interior being dirty”…. Excuse me!!! We received the car dirty. There was no inspection process before leaving the lot.. nothing! Needless to say we will NEVER use Budget or Avis ever again & we do a fair amount of travel. Hope this review saves another person the hassle. The other rental car lines at the Albuquerque airport were moving fast and efficient.
It was a horrible experience. No one was at the counter when we got to the rental car counter. We stood in line waiting and then got rediected to the Avis counter behind a long line. Then we were told to go outside to the "booth". We looked all around for a sign for Budget and didn't fine one. (Step-father can't walk that well) Then we went to the Avis booth. Another line. Then we got up to the counter and there wasn't a car, asked if I wanted a truck, (NO!) Ordered a car, wanted a car, Then they found one, then it took forever to go thru all the computer things. Since I didn't know how to get to my destination, I asked for directions and the clerk connected my tel to the car computer. Got in the car and then the lot attendant wouldn't let us take the car. Went back to the booth, waited in line, then was told we can't take the car because of the not matching info ie; driver, credit card and paperwork. So we fixed all that, but why did the first attendant not catch all that in the beginning. Me as driver, my brother who was suppose to be the driver and my step father's credit card. Then we left and the car computer was not giving us directions on the screen or verbal. So I pulled over and used my tel instead (I am a new cell tel user, so this was not easy for me). All in all, this was a horrible experience and a waste of 2+ hrs. I am not a seasoned traveller and should not have to know what is your company policies are in matching info. It was hard enough traveling with lay overs and an elderly person without encountering what we did at Budget/Avis.
I have never had a worse experience with a rental car company or location. The issues started before I even took possession of the car, when we had to wait in line for an 90+ minutes and then immediately got worse when the associate refused to rent our car to us because I apparently angered him when I said up front that I’d already paid online and did not want additional coverage or to upgrade. (Mind you he had been aggressively upselling people the whole time I was in line.) Then when I questioned him on how he could refuse to rent my car to me when I already paid, he told me to go outside and find a manager and threatened to call security. For what I have no idea. The people outside were nice, and had the car I rented — which the person inside said was unavailable — however the car was dirty inside. But no staff were around and we were running very late so we took the car. On our trip, it rained several times, which was a problem for the worn out windshield wipers. Then when we returned it, there was no one to check us in. Fast forward to today and I receive a letter saying I’m being charged $125 for excessive dirt/sand inside the car. So I asked for the photos… basically nothing. A little dry dirt from shoes is pretty normal and should be easily cleaned during normal vacuuming … unless they only clean the inside of they think they can charge someone. So word to the wise: Never rent from Avis/Budget at the Albuquerque airport. None of the other 1-star reviews surprise me in the least.
Avoid at all costs. Only 1 agent to handle both Budget and Avis at Albuquerque Airport. Took more than an hour in line to get paperwork. Premium level customers got no consideration despite paying to join preferred customer program. The agent was wonderful and calm, despite the obvious pressure he was working under to keep people from revolting. For that reason, 1 star for having Jack/Ian on the counter. The car itself died after 2 days and it took 9 - yes NINE -- calls to the emergency line to get a human...only to be told there were no cars to exchange. We finally got AAA to jump start and drove to a local Budget office in Santa Fe. Their rep Michael was extremely apologetic and tried to assist. He expected a car return that day and we were able to finally make an exchange to a different vehicle. But for him, we would have been five 75 yr old females stuck with no way to get to a safe place or return to Albuquerque for our flights. We lost an entire day of a 4 day vacation. The liability issues for Budget are clear. Had we been in a more remote area on the side of the road at night -- a real possibility -- anything could have happened. Budget [except for these two reps] seemed totally unconcerned and offered no solutions other than they would come to tow the car. Again...AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Budget at the Albuquerque airport gave my precious cargo (my kids) an unsafe vehicle. The car they were given had severely worn tires, one which was completely bald. This was my daughter's first experience with renting a car and did not know to visually inspect the tires. However, this should have been done by a Budget employee! Budget is responsible for providing an adequate and safe vehicle! They drove over 200 miles to attend a funeral of a beloved family member and when they arrived I noticed the severely worn tires. I was appalled and feared for my children's safety. They had no choice but to drive the car back 200 miles to the airport at the end of their trip. I instructed them not to speed but knowing they were driving this unsafe car was nerve-wracking and anxiety-inducing. I should note also that there was a message written on the rear driver side window stating that the tires were worn. It appeared to have been written by a Budget employee, however, this message was ignored and the unsafe car was rented out again! To my children! Please please please instruct your employees to inspect all vehicles and take the necessary measures to ensure all vehicles are safe before letting them out on the road. My biggest fear is this car is rented out again with the same unsafe tires!
I waited 55 minutes in line to rent my reserved car at noon on Saturday at Albuquerque airport. I have never waited in line anywhere near that long for a car rental and I am over 70 years old! There was only one agent working. Budget knows well in advance who's coming to rent and at what times, yet purposely scheduled only one agent. The line of people waiting kept getting longer for the hour that I was in line. So it was not a temporary flood of customers. Yet, instead of apologizing to each renter when they finally reached the front of the line, the agent asked each one "How are you doing?". I never heard him apologize to even one renter. When I finally reached the front of the line, he asked me "How are you doing?" and I just handed him my reservation info. Rather than leaving it alone, he instead loudly and slowly repeated "HOW ARE YOU DOING?". I was shocked and told him "Not good!", to which he replied "Me neither!". Frankly, it was inexcusable behavior, in my opinion. So, not only did Budget as a company totally fail me as a customer by having only one agent during a predictably busy rental time, but the agent on duty acted totally inappropriately for the situation in my opinion. So, needless to say, that will be the last time I rent from Budget.
While the Kia Sorrento was mechanically sound, there were some issues. First, it was NOT completely full, and I purchased the option that allowed me to bring back empty. This meant I had to add a couple of gallons to be able to make it back on empty. :-( One of the USB ports was completely destroyed which was somewhat problematic, device-use wise. Third, and most problematic was the fact the rear driver side tire was under pressure. I didn't notice it before I drove out of the lot because I was irritated about the gas issue. I had to stop twice to refill tire. I returned the car the day before so I wasn't stranded by a flat on the morning of my flight. There have been numerous complaints regarding the ABQ counter people. There was only one person, but that's an issue everywhere right now, so I won't complain about that. The woman at the counter was somewhat brusque at first, but after witnessing her efficiency and competency, I feel that she likely was simply being direct without any fluffiness. She was indeed quite competent and actually helpful once I was at the counter. However, the problems I did have make me know next time, I'll pay the few dollars more at Hertz and feel confident about my car.
Better sign up for the fast break program or you'll be waiting a while. My experience was fairly unproblematic. Ian who squared me away initially came out yelling at everyone who was in the fast break line who weren't fast break members to get into the regular line. Not the people's fault, the signage of the lines are terrible. Ian initially left a bad taste in my mouth with that. Ian checked me, he was high strung at first then eventually came down to normal becoming personable. He was a very interesting funny chap. I wanted a Kia Soul but they gave me a Toyota Corolla which is an upgrade for Budget (not to me). My Toyota Correct was freshly cleaned. The car itself is a ok point A to point B ride. It's underpowered for the crazy drivers of Albuquerque highways and the road noise is very loud above 60mph. The mpg wasn't the greatest for such a small car. I achieved 34mpg. I previously rented a Kia K5 which is a much bigger car which achieved 39mpg. Also the lane keep assist on the Toyota Corolla is dangerous. So many times it developed a mind of its own trying to take me out by sweev suddenly. Kia's lane keep assist is leaps and bounds better than Toyota's.
I was in New Mexico for 7 days road-tripping to see my family that lives there. I reserved a small SUV in October of 2022 for my trip in June of 2023. I get to the counter and they only had a pickup truck left. So although I booked and prepaid for a small SUV for a road-trip, I ended up with a large truck. I asked if they had anything else and the desk attendant said no. I also prepaid for gas as well which cost more for me even though I didn’t request a truck. I paid an insane amount of money in gas during the trip, not what I had budgeted for because I reserved a small suv. During the trip, a rock flipped up and put a crack in the windshield of the truck ( the vehicle I didn’t prepay for). I spent 2 hours on hold for them to tell me that all I need to do is turn it in and they’ll send me a bill for a windshield on the car that I didn’t request. The man on the phone I spoke to told me it was my fault the glass was damaged, that it wasn’t their fault. I agree but it’s not my fault a rock flew up from the road. To top it off, I get charged $84 for prepaid gas after I spent $160 on gas for my trip already on a vehicle I DID NOT book nor prepay for.
I booked an economy car rental months in advance, which is what I always do. It wasn't unusual for the sales person at the counter to try and encourage me to upgrade to something larger but I insisted I wanted something with good fuel economy. He then said that the car I was going to get got terrible mileage and was basically not fit for the road because it didn't have enough power. I then asked why he even offered to rent a "bad" car and he proceeded to lecture me on how there's no such thing as bad cars. After all that needless discussion he then stated that there were no small cars available to rent anyway and that the only things they had left were giant trucks. So we had to drive a monster truck that really did get terrible mileage for me and my 10 year old son. We made the best of it and luckily were mostly driving in rural areas but it was aggravating that the car I ordered wasn't there for us and that we had to spend so much money on gas and increase our carbon footprint as well. I've never had an experience like this before. I would definitely avoid using Budget/Avis in the future, of possible.
This was far and away the very worst car rental experience of my life. And the most expensive one at that. The agent at the desk yelled at me while I was in line because he thought I was using my phone to check-in with a QR code option that he said could cost him his job. I was texting my kid and not using the QR code but, either way, I didn’t deserve to be berated in front of the other customers. On arrival, my reserved car was not in stock. The sales agent tried to upswell a different vehicle until he was finally forced to admit that they didn’t have anymore of the sized car I reserved. Cornered, they dug to the bottom of the pack and brought up a car that was so badly damaged that the woman at the gate sent me back for a new car. I waited over an hour for a replacement. The replacement car lost the cover to the driver’s side rear view mirror while I was on the highway. What if someone got hurt? And today I see that the bill for all of this is almost $800?! No, I can’t imagine a scenario where I would do anything except repeat this story and advise ANY OTHER rental company. Or an Uber failing that.
I reserved a hybrid car in advance, but was given an all-electric one because the person at the counter said she couldn't locate a hybrid. The electric car was charged at most 55%. This was at the Albuquerque airport, and we were headed up to Taos. There are no charging stations in Taos, which I did not know at the time. We spent an extra 3 hours in Santa Fe charging the car enough to get to Taos, and then had to curtail much of our driving because of limited mileage range. I spent 2 hours on the phone the next day with customer service through multiple phone trees (and multiple disconnects while holding). All customer service reps were off-sourced over seas. I was able to get one day credited, yet when we returned the car 2 days later there was NO record of this on the invoice. The person behind the rental desk was totally non-helpful and had the most bored non-nonchalant expressions I have ever seen. I then had to spend another 1 hour on the phone to get the one day credited. Overall the worst rental experience I have ever had,
I waited over an hour for my rental because there was only 1 person to help over a dozen people. I preferred a Ford vehicle and was given a Toyota. I stayed on the phone over 30 minutes after turning the vehicle in and getting a receipt to try and find out why I was charged an additional amount and was disconnected. I will NEVER book another rental from Budget. I will go back to Enterprise and gladly pay the difference. Awful customer service, awful communication. And very disappointing when I requested a Ford vehicle and there were several available in the parking lot. I spoke with another customer and she requested a Toyota vehicle and she was given a Ford. She also had a preference for the Toyota vehicle, NOT A FORD. Such a shame the Budget doesn't honor requests from their customers. So I will no longer be one. BEWARE, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY IN GENERAL. The BBB has been notified of their additional charges days afterwards being made to the credit card you use.
The rates are not good. Calling to extend the rental was a total nightmare, it made me go through a million prompts, then to a customer service rep I couldn't communicate with at all..I had to call back and got a rep I could understand, but the rates are so high to extend and the process is stone age. You can easily extend your rental online with Enterprise or call the rental counter directly with Sixt and other rental companies at the airport instead of calling a "local" number and being rerouted to the general customer service line. Also, the car was seriously dirty when I received it, so much so that I took pictures to ensure it wouldn't be blamed on me. There was also a pad left in the console. Like how do you not see that?? It's not what was left that was the issue, but the fact the car hadn't been cleaned at all and was totally run down and dingy (Toyota Highlander) I had to leave town pretty quick so I took it, but overall would not use Budget again.
I had reserved a Dollar pick-up truck to transport some furniture and Dollar had no trucks available when I arrived. I was stressed to the point of tears. The guys at Budget SAVED THE DAY -- they were so incredibly kind and reassuring, and showed me multiple trucks they had on the lot to figure out one that would not only fit my furniture, but also be the most fuel-efficient and comfortable for an extended road trip. It cost about the same as my original rental and I didn't at all feel rushed while we tried to figure it out. Even when I realized I had briefly misplaced my purse in the airport rental place (worst day ever!) and was absolutely mortified, they did not make me feel embarrassed or anything about it. It was some of the best customer service I have ever received. This was my first rental from Budget/Avis but they now have a new loyal customer.
Horrible. Contract pick up was noon. Stood in line 1.5hrs. No apology and man was super rude. When the amount was a few hundred dollars higher than my confirmation, I looked at my email, and as I did so, he said “I JUST told you the cost!” Then when I said I didn’t appreciate his response, he said he was “hangry.” No apology whatsoever, for the delay nor the rudeness. Then he proceeded to try to coerce us not getting a larger gas guzzler stating that the smaller car would use more gas due to less power. Suppose he was hoping to have small cars available to others who’d reserved them (the line was long in front and behind us!). Totally ridiculous. Wasted a couple hours of our trip and Budget couldn’t have cared less. I don’t recommend Budget, definitely not this unprofessional, shady location.
My wife reserved a car for the day for $54 through Costco (which included taxes) on June 24 in Albuquerque. When asking for a convertible Upgrade, the price quoted was $80. Since we figured the price difference was minimal we accepted. When it came to paying, it came out to $154 and change. When we asked, the attendant said it was the original $54 Plus $80 Plus taxes. We felt tricked. I really wanted tht car and the deal was basically done so we accepted. But we left feeling like it was a bait and switch and some sort of shady sales tactic. I am almost certain my costco card was not even used for a discount. He was nice but this is not the kind of business I like to deal with. So we will not be using Budget in the future.
Sketchy, consistently inconsistent would be nice descriptives for the service you get at this Budget location. I've been renting from this location, annually, for over 20 years. In the last few years, there is *always* something not right. This year had to do with my unexplainable credit card issue, on a paid for prepaid rental, and the fact I had to run my card at the counter to cover a potential $250 damage deposit. Then, to put salt in the wound, my fuel tank was down about an 1/8th of a tank (about 4 gallons). I get it full and I bring it back full; did I get a credit for the 4 gallons I didn't get? No. And this was a known issue as it showed up on my e-receipt: 17.3 gal out; 21.1 gal in.
Sadly the Albuquerque airport location is extremely understaffed. I did the pre check in online paperwork/contract and still had to wait a half hour before I was able to see an agent and receive my car. There were 5-6 customers behind me, that waited longer still. The agent that waited on me was very helpful and did give us an upgrade, when she discovered that our reservation for full size vehicle was not going to be possible, as they had run out of full size cars. I was lucky that it was just my wife and I. Had our kids been with us, this would’ve also been a problem. As even though it was an upgrade in class of vehicle, it was a two door with a very small back seat.
1) Halfway thru my rental, I noticed that the plates had expired back in May!! Budget rented me an illegal car! 2) The front tires were not inflated correctly. They should have been at 35psi. The front right had 47psi and the front left had 31psi. Budget rented me a car that was unsafe! 3) The inside of the windows on a new car quickly get a greasy, hazy film from all the plastics in the car. They need to be throughly cleaned on a regular basis to maintain clarity. When I got in the car that first night, the haze on the windows was distracting and impaired my vision of the road and surrounding. Budget should do a better job of cleaning the windows on their cars!
Our flight got in late around 12am and we got to car rental center. There was no one at Budget counter --it was closed. There was a sign saying go to Avis counter for assistance but it was closed, too. I called the Budget agency and tried to inform them that we had reserved a car ahead of time long before our trip -- they had my flight info. And they never made efforts to email or call us saying they are closed. Person on phone wasn't interested in working this out at all. He said to come back the next day at 7 am. I couldn't afford to wait due to travel plans. I do not recommend ever do business with them
If you are thinking about renting from budget car rental, please rethink that thought. They lie, I brought the car back on full and they still charged me a total of $200. They said for gas, and returning the car late, I was 29 min early and they steal charged me. I was told my deposit would go back on my card , I still have not received it. I had to rent a car in town to pick up my car I rented at the airport, mainly because, you need a major credit card to pick your car up at the airport not in town. I still have not got money back from this second rental. Stay away from this place.
When I arrived at the counter I was helped right away as I am a FastBreak member which is a Budget program to enter your information to rent a car prior to arriving at the rental counter. FastBreak membership is a lot faster to rent a car. That I do like. However when I arrived at the airport rental car there were few cars available and the type of vehicle was not available. I still don't understand why rental car companies have this problem. If someone reserves a specific type of vehicle the company should have it. I was upgraded to a luxury car which was a nice gesture.
From beginning to end. Service arrangements, the excellent vehicle The Chrysler Pacifica with excellent gas mileage, comfort, spacious and power. had it for one week.Better than all . the price for one week; unbeatable. Spent lot of tome compsaring. A word of advice: do not accept the insurasnce coverage offered on the rental agrrement. When u pick up your vehicle an insurance policy will be offered at the counter. Yes it is more expensive but covers everything. Discuss this with th rep and have piece of mind. Get it...I"m sure all of their vehicles are of equal standards.
Although the check-in staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the car selection/vehicle was a complete letdown. I had reserved a Kia Soul or similar and I received, in my opinion, a junky/cheap Chevrolet Spark, which is NOT comparable to what I booked. Notwithstanding, when we opened the passenger side vanity mirror, the piece completely broke off, which confirms my theory that the car, again - in my opinion, is a complete piece of junk, for which I am sure I will be charged. For these two issues, I will not be back at Budget anytime soon, if ever.
I would never recommend Budget and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. The line to pick up cars was 20 people long and there were 2 people helping. I'm a Fastrack member so I was in the Fastrack lane since the key was not prepicked. The representative kept helping customers from the standard line and skipped the FT members. One of the representatives kept having long conversations with the customers which further slowed the process. It was the worst pickup expierence I have ever had. I'll be taking my rental business to another company. Very sad!
The process was really easy. The staff people are really nice. Unfortunately my rental vehicle was leaking oil and I was not aware of that ( didn’t excepted from a vehicle with around 30000 miles) getting a different vehicle was difficult and time consuming (me being on a different place and had to go to different locations ).I think that who ever does maintenance and check out should be putting more attention, I wouldn’t wanted to be responsible for damaging a almost new rental. I will rent again. Hopefully someone can address this issue. Thanks
Single Avis rep at the desk handling all customers from both Budget & Avis. Around 40 parties in line at mid day. It's taking this single rep around 9 minutes of interaction with each party, one at a time, to get them checked out. In between, he's taking the time to sarcastically remark to the crowd that the company is hiring and how much he hates working there. If this guy is your rep, best to just abort the mission and proceed on foot. Never again. Tip: Plan for extra time and see if you can catch any extra unprofessional conduct on video.
Counter service personnel was ok There were problems with the car that the maintenance staff should have cause- no washer fluid (had to add a GALLON and that didn't fill it) and a tire with a slow leak that eventually required me to purchase and use a can of fix-a-flat. Upon return of car no company inspection and no separate line to address the issues. Car was a Toyota which is car I will never rent again (not my original choice) because I ended up having to call them to find out how to extract the key!!!! Info was not in manuals.
I reserved a car beforehand and filled out all the information needed for FastBreak. The person at the FastBreak counter said he could give me a truck or Mustang and wanted me to choose. I travel a lot and I am used to have car rental companies offering me choices or upgrading me for free. The person at the counter did not ask if it was ok to charge me more nor did he have me sign a new contract. Once I received the receipt I noticed he had charged me nearly $70 more than agreed!
Although I filled the gas tank 4 blocks from the rental car return center and offered my gas receipt to the attendant who said I didn't need it, I was all good to go. I got my emailed receipt and I was charged 10$ for a gallon of gas. That is a big rip off. Everyone be aware Budget is cheating customers out of money. I intend to challenge the charge but what a waste of my time that I now have to fight them over 10.00. If they don't refund my 10$ I will never rent from them again
Beware that when u book online it’s not the price u will pay!! I booked online & paid $158 for 2 days which wasn’t bad but then my bill ended up being $350 double what I was told & what I originally paid! & don’t forget to fill it up with gas as I know it was my fault as I forgot but for less then 1/2 a tank of gas I was charged $100 absolutely ridiculous !! I understand car rental companies rip u off but come on….will never use budget again in this lifetime
The rental itself was fine, but I got a “net charge” after I returned the car. After calling customer service, they told me I got a $137.52 fuel charge. At $9.99 a gallon, that would be almost empty. Which is impossible, I returned the car completely full. I drove straight from Costco gas station to the airport. There needs to be a better process to check in and out with the vehicle where both the customer and a representative check over the car together.
Not a great experience…. Was given a beat up Carolla (which is apparently considered an “intermediate” car now?) with over 60,000 miles on it and a front bumper cover that kept coming loose. To top it all off, the Albuquerque airport location tried to charge me for a tank of gas at nearly $10/gallon. Even when I emailed my gas receipt to the budget rep (which was time stamped 12 minutes before I returned the car), I had to argue to get a refund.
Company is not accommodating at all. Needed to add days to rental due to emergency (hospitalization), they increased cost significantly and were not willing to work with us, and were rude. Van we recieved had a lot of damage, wipers were broken, the entire van would shake when pressing the brake. We didn't recieve the van we requested, so the 2 week drive was not comfortable. They didn't hesitate to take extra money for fees though.
I wouldn't go to Budget if you haven't been using them already as they run your DL through a scanner and if it gets rejected, they'll refuse to rent to you. They'll give you no reason. It doesn't matter if you've prepaid. You can have a clean record all the way around but you'll still be rejected. There's an 800 number you can call but even they won't tell you why your license was rejected. Don't risk it unless you have back up.
I was not notified you don't accept debit cards. I wasn't told til I got to the airport to pick up the vehicle. At the time I wasn't told it wasn't going through because it was a debit card I was told to call experian. I wasn't made aware until I called you guys and then I just used my credit card. her not telling me it was because i was using a debit card made me almost 2 hours late to my event and caused me to lose money.
Not happy being treated like a sub human by the British main desk attendant. Being lectured ab trying to butt the long line by recently signing up for Fastbreak despite being signed up for over 3 years tested my patience. Not really pleased. Luckily The staff in pu area were delightful, helpful and made up partially for the front desk experience. Hence the 2 stars vs. the less than zero stars experienced up front.
I would give zero stars if possible! Horribly frustrating 90 minute wait at Albuquerque budget rental counter. 2 employees then one left. The employee was kind and quick, doing the best he could. I did precheck/fastbreak but the online chat rep said it wasn't sufficient, I still had to wait at the counter. I cancelled future budget reservation. I'd you're a Costco member, choose another car rental service.
I've rented here several times for travel. On the plus, they have a large stock of vehicles and have cars when other agencies are sold out (Albuquerque Balloon Week!). On the minus, they will charge you for fuel even when you return the car full, so make sure you save your receipts and documentation, and watch your credit card bill. They've done it to me twice now at this location in the last 2 months.
1) The check-out person forgot to do any of the check-out process. He literally had to chase us down and have us return to the office to "re-do" the process. 2) The vehicle we were given was dangerous! One of the tires seemed like it was going to fly off. We had to return to the Budget airport office (15 miles away) to exchange vehicles. The manager that did the exchange was rude and irritable.
I had a reservation through Alamo and was denied the reservation due to only having a Debit card. I tried with Avis and Budget and right away they took my info and was able to get a car with in minutes. The person working the desk that day was Ian. He was amazing, really went above and beyond. I'm extremely thankful for him, I would have been stranded in Albuquerque, if it wasn't for him.
I plan to never again use Budget Car Rental. Their counter staff on both the Wednesday mid day that we arrived and today when the car was returned is very inadequate. Long lines. When we finally arrived at our rental, the front windshield was clearly broken! For them to arrange for another car took at least 30 more minutes. The entire operation seems understaffed and overworked.
I rented my car for a week. My mechanic actually finished my car in two days. I asked Budget if I could bring the car back and get a refund and they said NO. That I had already paid and gotten discounts. I said well then charge me full price for two days and they refused. I will NEVER rent from them again and I strongly recommend to everyone that they not rent from them either.
They rented me this POS and left my family on the side of the road with 2 bad tires on a cross country trip. The tire down to the cord is the good rear tire. This after 4 hour of driving. They still charged the full amount! I fought hard with them 2 times and they gave me $40 credit on a $300 charge. We turned it back in and flew the rest of the way. Never again Budget!
We rented an SUV there. The Albuquerque has a shared shuttle bus that goes to an offsite car rental place. The shuttle is convenient. There were only one or two people in line. The person who rented us the car was a little pushy about buying insurance but we said no and that was fine. No issues with the car - it was almost new. Would be happy to rent from them again.
I reserved and prepaid for a rental For one of my employees at this location. When he got there they would not use my card for the security deposit. The employee on site was not helpful and would not give his supervisor’s contact information stating that he was the manager and I could call the 800 number. Rude and not helpful at all. The customer service is abysmal.
I love Budget. I’ve rented with them many times and they have friendly staff, easy check- in/out process, great pricing, good vehicles, and good specials. You can’t beat their “pay now” prices. I’ve never had to call them about a problem mid-rental, but I trust they’d be helpful and accommodating if I did. Overall, renting from Budget is always a great experience.
Our experience was awful. Had to wait close to 2 hrs to get our car in ABQ. Closed the Buget ticket counter with a line of people 10 and moved everyone over to Avis with 1 worker so they could get a break. The line had over 20 people when we got our car about 2hrs later. Really Budget? Hire some more people and focus on customer service. Won't let me do 0 stars
Rented it on the contract as "leave filled - return filled". I tank it up 5 miles from the Budget return lot and drop it off. I get an e-reciept the next day with a 67.05 fuel service charge. I call their customer service and they don't believe me. Convenient drop off but their return procedures are inadequate. Or maybe they're scamming everybody this way.
Budget car rental has been fine. The actual pick up agent in Albuquerque was arrogant and rude to couples. He was quite nice to the two young ladies in front of us. Rude to the couple infront of the ladies, and of course rude to us. Even after listening carefully to his instructions so as not to incur his rude attitude, he was still impatient and rude.
I booked our rental about two months ahead but when we arrived, we had to wait about 25 minutes for them to get us our vehicle. When we got in, the windshield was smeared on the inside so much that we had to use napkins to wipe it off to be able to see. The people we worked with were very nice but what we had to pay for the rental was not worth it.
Over 90 minutes to check in and then waited for the car. Had to re-enter all our information that was entered when we made the reservation. Repeated upsell on insurance and fuel was annoying. The car we received was appropriate size but impractical for a party of 4 and not what was requested. Other than that the car was clean and relatively new.
The budget counter was closed and all customers were moved to the Avis counter next door with 1 attendant. Customers waited over 2 hours, 2 FREAKING HOURS just to get a car. I totally missed my friends wedding ceremony. I felt so bad for that 1 employee- he had to have his lunch while working and everyone was mad at him. DO BETTER budget!
When I got to Budget Rental Cars there was only one person working, presumably because other terminals had issues with their computer system. This made Fastbreak meaningless. Nevertheless the only working agent was fast, professional and friendly. I got the car I reserved with no issues. Returning the car was also a breeze withoutanyissue
Did not have any vehicles available that I paid for in advance, as well as had reserved. There was a line of at least a dozen customers waiting to find out there was no vehicles available. The people at the desk did not have the courage to let people they were standing in line for no reason because they made a mistake and overbooked.
Very slow service and did not alert us to a maintenance issue that caused a long delay in delivering our rental vehicle. We ended up, after an hour, going back to the service desk to get information on our rental. They then decided to replace our rental with another vehicle. Very poor support and extremely uncoordinated staff.
There was a glitch with checking in to pick up. The agent could not find our reservation. We had booked through Expedia. We had to search through our emails to find the confirmation. Other than that minor glitch, the experience was good. The wait was only 2 minutes. The car was as expected. The car return was quick & easy.
I was assigned a car different from the one I had originally selected. The counter representative was not at all helpful to me when I requested a different car (and explained my reasons). Also, during my trip I had to purchase washer fluid since the reservoir was nearly empty. Budget should have checked the fluid levels.
I was encouraged to Upgrade to an intermediate size vehicle due to economy vehicle, not being able to make it to the height of where I was driving. That was incorrect, it would’ve made it, and in the meantime, I had to spend an extra hundred dollars for this intermediate vehicle that I did not need. Very disappointing.
The car was a dirty mess. I had to get the car washed and bought cleaning supplies to clean the inside of the windows so I could see out the windows without a glare. The one person I found would not help me at all. This company will be my last choice to rent from. I have never had this type of service before.
We were treated very well by the staff person who checked us in. Even though he wasn’t the FastBreak person, he invited us over because no one was there. He quickly got us going and let us know that the car we would be driving was larger than the one we thought we would be getting. It was a nice surprise!
We rented in Albuquerque and we were fully disappointed. Only one agent at the desk and it took over 40 minutes to check out. The car we got was dirty and apparently not checked for problems. Not happy with all the hidden surcharges either, which account for about 1/3 of the total cost. Disgraceful.
Absolutely horrendous experience. There were about 20 people in line and only one person working. I stood in line for 25 minutes and then gave up and got an Uber. Avoid like the plague. The customer service is terrible. It’s no wonder Budget was the only company with supposedly available cars.
Very disappointed and would not recommend Budget. I was told 350 of my bill was a security deposit, which I would receive back when I returned the car. Instead I am being charged 100$ for gas and I had just filled the tank at Circle K right around the corner. I feel they were very deceptive.,
We had to stand in line for almost two hours before reaching the rental clerk, who worked alone. Budget and Avis appeared to be the only car rental businesses with only one person working. Budget was radically understaffed. The car was fine, although it was not what we had reserved.
A work colleague with an even bigger car with extra features from the same rental building, same time frame of days and hours, same work location paid exactly half as much as me. The upcharge is ridiculous. Try looking at different companies through Expedia before booking here.
I did not care about the pressure sales I received when I picked up my car and a lot of costs were added that I did not need and were not on the original price quoted. When I returned the car they made good on the overcharges right away. Because of this I would use them again.
Check out and fastbreak was fantastic, car was great, return outstanding...but Budget dropped the ball on giving me a Wrangler EV/Hybrid without a full tank of gas...and the EV battery was at ZERO. I spent over $100 on gas for this rental that Budget should reimburse me for!
If you expect to use Fast Break with Budget in Albuquerque do not bother. We have rented a car probably 30 times in the past three years and only two or three of those times have we been able to use the Fast Break service if the Budget counter in Albuquerque is open at all.
The Albuquerque budget rental was a breeze to checking and drop off. We prepaid so it was even faster than we expected. Arriving at 11:30 pm we were tired and anticipated a wait. But Avis agent came over and said Avis ow s budget, so let me help you over here. WOW! Nice!
Got to the rental car pickup place at the airport in Albuquerque and waited in line 2.5 hours while one Budget employee worked the line. Finally got out to the lot and they had given my car to someone else. Finally got a car and it was filthy. 0/10 do not recommend.
The windshield was not clean so driving in the direct sunlight was difficult. Car was not clean. Less that half tank of gas. I called customer service. They said they would give me a credit toward the the rental but I was billed the full amount. So, not done yet.
We rented this vehicle through COSTCO and received a good price. However upon return we were charged more than double that amount. It was ultimately remedied but not without considerable stress and aggravation. And no apology was ever offered or received.
KIA I rented in ABQ was as expected. I was charged an extra $110 for a full day rental when I arrived at airport 1 1/2 hours early and was told I would get a refund if I returned it that early. I returned it 20 minutes early but no refund was offered.
Absolutely the worst. They are low on cars. Waited one hour in line and still had another hour to wait. 30 people in front and fifty people in back. Only one agent. We went to Enterprise and a friend went to Hertz and got our cars with no wait.
Easy pick up and return of the Budget car at Albuquerque airport. Friendly staff however there was no windshield wiper fluid in the vehicle so we had to fill it with water twice. The back seat was not completely cleaned and had pet hair on it.
Skipped the long line when picking up our truck rental since we had everything verified on the budget app. Mario was very nice and gave us a brand new 2023 Dodge Ram. He made sure we had a pleasant experience with such professionalism.
Addi was absolutely amazing and helped my husband and I with our reservation. Another company in the rental facility refused to assist us, and thankfully Addi was there to help us get home. If I could give her 10 stars I would :)
I’m waiting to hear back from Budget regarding the charges. I reserved through Costco and they said there should be NO extra charges. I was charged an additional $125. If not resolved speedily I’d never rent through Budget again
Budget /Avis screwed up my rental experience - charged me double what they initially quoted me, added an extra $89 at the end, assigned me a non-existant car (initially), incompetent help at the counter. Need I go on?
I had to change my review from 1 star to 5 because immediately Budget looked at my account and corrected it, again restoring my full faith in their operations. And I was dealt with by a real person, not AI. Thank you
We rented from Albuquerque New Mexico... they did not give us the car we had booked. The car they gave us would not start. Then they gave us a smaller car. It was rediculas. Would never rent from that company again.
The line was horrendous. I waited for an hour and fifteen minutes to get my car. Lost valuable vacation time and mood. They need to hire more people to work the desk. This is not a new issue. Very disappointing.
I looked up the reviews when I arrived at the airport and was worried. But everything turned out well. We waited in line for 10-15 mins and got a car with nice conditions. The price was lower than the others.
Rented a Corolla with fast break in Albuquerque. Drove to Santa Fe and took family on several road trips. I love fastbreak and budget people were very friendly and car was in good condition.
These MFers charged my federal card all randomly, I don’t use budget truck ever. Now I know why. Get a different rental if you can!! Smh
