I have 5 cats of my own as well as foster for a rescue. I first dealt with them as a foster and was so initially satisfied with how Dr Thom treated me as a foster and how well she treated the cats, often skitish to feral with seemingly magic hands that I switched over to them and brought all my cats along. I should specify that the 5 star rating is for Dr Thom. I have had the opportunity to deal with other vets there and was far from impressed by a few of them. While all of them are quite professional and knowledgeable at what they do, they do a lot of unecessarry upselling, pushing veternary diets and tests where not needed. Do your own reserach on foods, other diet will often be just as good if not better than the food they push. Also do your research on the value of certain diagnostic testing. One vet eventually admitted to be that he was pushing for a particular vet food because he only knew what that one offered but had no knowldege whatsoever of the other foods which is why he could not endorse them. On the other hand, EVERY SINGLE VET TECH is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, they each and every oe of them deserve the 5 star rating accross the board. So caring, knowledgeable and helpful, always a good word or sense of humour.

This place was horrible! They charge more than most vets, but I didn't get better value for the money. Bad, rude service from receptionist. Complained about it on the phone, and they banned me for life from both their clinics. Guess the customer isn't always right at this place. I was fed up at this point and had decided to take my to another vet anyways. There were many other issues. Long wait everytime to see vet, way past scheduled appointment time. Once the vet actually asked me if I cleaned my cat's dishes with dish soap, as if I wouldn't know enough to do that. Very insulting! Big push here for expensive unnecessary services, and they push their food on you constantly. My cat almost died during a teeth cleaning.Got a call from them saying he had seizures but they stabilized him. Later found out from a cat expert that 9 yrs old is too old for surgery and they often die from it at that age or older. So excited to never go here again. Found way better service for much less elsewhere. Hahaha! Look at their reply. How petty. Guess they don't understand that I was done with them, not vice versa.

Really unimpressed by this clinic. Thought it would be a great decision to bring my cat to a speciality cat clinic- even waited months to get our pets in and transfered because we live seconds from the hospital. This clinic not only over charges for their procedures far over other clinics I have called- but they don't provide pain management medication after a neuter and also made us drive through the entire city trying to find a cone for our cat to wear after surgery. $800 later and we still needed to purchase our own protective cone and pain management solutions. Now that we need a followup for a pre existing issue that we had when our went in initally, we cannot get our cat in, in a reasonable amount of time and we are being funneled to one of the very few emergency hhospitalsin the city (which charge $250 just to be seen). Getting really tired of vets that take on too much work for their clinics and extremely frustrated at the lack of compassion for our cat.

The Bytown cat hospital were absolutely great for me and my cat Trurtle. I started going there when Turtle was older (10-11yrs) and they’ve been amazing throughout the rest of the little guys life. Compassionate staff, I would often get follow-up calls to see how turtle was doing. When he was diagnosed with diabetes I had numerous conversations with the staff, techs and vets - they’d check in and happily answer any questions I had between visits. When Turtle fell ill towards the end, they offered comprehensive and logical advice and guidance, and when I made the decision to put my little guy down, they were amazing with that too. Compassionate service throughout, provided honest, realistic options (no upselling!), and great service. I can’t recommend them enough! I’ve never had a vet as thoughtful and caring as the bytown cat hospital.

I'm super disapointed that my buddy who loved his cat of 13 years to be wrongly diagnosed saying that cat lung problems was due to second hand smoke when in Fact the cat Kitty his name was had a serious intestinal complication and die from it. I'm very disappointing in the clinic. If they had done there job! properly the cat could of being treated properly and lived. 80$ for nothing. I don't recommend bringing your cat there their so fast to jump the gun and blaim second hand smoking when it had nothing to do with it shame on you people. He ended up taking his cat to the emergency veterinary on lola street were the cat was properly diagnosed by that time it was to late the cat had to be put down. My friend is having a hard time losing his cat when the cat could of being saved they said.

I've had mixed experiences with the reception here. The quality of the veterinary is excellent and my cat is treated well here. However, I've struggled with how to interact with the reception. The times I've come in to pickup food or questions I'm often ignored when I walk in. I would usually wait by the side for someone to welcome me and indicate to me that they can help but have waited 30 minutes before without anyone so much as glancing at me or saying hello. Currently I've adopted the strategy of being very direct when I walk in and going straight to the desk to get service. I've had to cut them off mid sentence in order to get served. It's quite uncomfortable. Please let me know what I should do because I don't want to be rude but otherwise I end up being ignored.

I recommend this vet to every cat owner I know and I’ll probably never go anywhere else. After I had a horrible experience at my cat’s previous vet, I was looking to find a place that would help accommodate and reduce his new learned fear of the vet. The staff went above and beyond during his first visit to keep both of us calm and comfortable and it was so appreciated. I have had nothing, but wonderful service since! They do their best to keep you with your pets for as much as possible, which I love! They’re usually fairly on time for appointments and I have pretty much always been able to book within 24 business hours for more urgent care type situations. The exams are thorough, and I don’t find they recommend unnecessary tests. Lots of food options too.

I've been bringing my cats to Bytown Cat Hospital since 2010 and would not go anywhere else! Going to the vet is usually a stressful experience for my cats, so it's great that I can bring them to a cat-only clinic where there aren't any dogs to frighten them further. The support staff are friendly and very helpful, especially Erin. All the veterinarians are fantastic and clearly care about their feline patients' well-being! My cats' usual vet is Dr. Sylvie Nicholson, who is very gentle with them and always takes the time to answer my questions. In addition to vet care, Bytown Cat Hospital has a great boarding facility. I have complete trust and peace of mind that they take good care of my cats while I'm away! Thank you!

As a cats only practice, the vets and staff here are expert in not only the conditions and treatment of cats, but in the care and handling of cat owners. Without exception, they go beyond professional to show deep compassion and understanding for both the patient and the human who is fretting about the cat's condition. I have been taking cats to Bytown now for over 20 years, and have never, ever had less than perfection from them. Everyone on staff will go the extra and then some to make sure your cat has the best treatment and the best chance, to make sure the human understands what is going on and why, and how to avoid future problems or to manage ongoing conditions. Your cat's best friends.

I cannot say enough good things about Ottawa's Cat Hospitals and the amazing Dr. Beck. Our cat Lucy had a life-threatening condition that required surgery FAST. Our usual vet quoted an amount that was impossible and we were sure we'd have to put Lucy down. We called around and ended up taking her in to Merivale where we were given a gentle, reception, and HOPE because the cost was quoted at less than half of the other vet. Lucy had her surgery and is doing very very well. I am thankful every moment for the staff and ethical, accessible care they provide. Thank you so much!

We took our cat to the Bytowne Cat hospital after she suffered a bite from another cat. The entire staff took excellent care of her during her preliminary exam and subsequent surgery. They explained what had probably caused her wound and, after the surgery, showed us how we had to care for the incision cite. Two weeks after the stitches were removed, Dr. Nicholson called to make sure she was back to normal. We had excellent care from a concerned and professional staff who made a bad experience as pleasant as possible. I would highly recommend the Bytowne Cat Hospital.

Great staff and awesome doctors! Dr. Popovic and Dr. Thom are super nice, knowledgeable and very down-to-earth. The staff and the doctors all follow-up to make sure that everything's okay with your cat after the appointment. The only problem is that they are higher prices than average. Also, their dispensing is 21$ per medication every time you buy it and their food is more expensive than other vet offices for the exact same foods. I hope they can revisit their prices especially since most pet parents spend thousands of dollars on our sick pets.

This was the cat hospital that we took Willow to for her regular care and anything beyond that. They were quite good in dealing with Willow and during her last days were very compassionate and caring. Special mention of Dr. Hurdle who did an exceptional job helping to diagnose what was happening with Willow and explaining to me what the prognosis was. I can easily recommend the Bytown Cat Hospital. All these years later we're still taking our cats here for the same exceptional service.

This place is the absolute best place to go if you have a cat. The veterinarians really understand them, and will be patient if you have a fearful cat. They treat each animal as an individual, and never assume that your cat can be handled the exact same way as the last cat that they saw. A bit pricier than other vets, but they provide the absolute best care that you can get for a cat. This is a case of "you get what you pay for". I would trust these people 100% with any of my cats.

Excellent care. Entire staff is caring, patient, supportive and available. They can of course deal with little cute kittens, but they can also deal with older cats, who, may have aversion to being looked at by the doctor. They handle all situations with care and love. And...unfortunately, even the hard, rough, sad and unfortunate events of your pets life. They deal with those respectfully, carefully and with dignity. We continue to bring our cats there.

I recently moved to the Ottawa area and tried another vet before calling the Bytown Cat Hospital. My cat was experiencing allergies and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to Trek's needs. Dr. Sylvie Nicholson treated my cat with respect and a loving attitude and I immediately had the feeling that my pet was in good hands. I went there for the first time a few weeks ago with my two cats and could tell right away that the people working here were cat people. The vet took her time talking to me about my cats, going through their diet and taking her time answering my questions. It was clear she really cared. One of my cats even jumped up on the vet's lap to get some attention. I strongly recommend this vet clinic for your kitties .

My poor Kiki had terrible hair mats due to stress. They were causing her so much pain. I was desperate and the Bytown Cat Hospital was able to accommodate me, providing professional and timely service. The staff is wonderfully warm, friendly and professional. My cat loves his visits here and the staff always has sweet and adorable things to say to and about him (and his bowtie). The prices for boarding are beyond reasonable and they monitor his eating and litter habits during his stay to ensure he is healthy and stress-free. I can't recommend Bytown Cat Hospital highly enough!

We moved back to Gatineau last summer with 2 cats. Upon getting their annual vaccine and check ups I realized that there are no vets accepting new patients in the whole Gatineau area. But luckily I found Bytown. My cats are much calmer going to cat only hospital. The doctors and staff are friendly and helpful. Totally worth the drive to get a trust worthy service and care.

Prim was brought in for an annual check up with Dr. Marshall followed by surgery to have teeth extracted and a lump removed. I’m very pleased to have found a new vet with a great overall team from receptionists to doctors and technicians. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. Prices are very reasonable. Well they very well organize ,safe precaution and very helpful at begening.... then they didn't answer phone or didn't give the vet the info or email we sent, terrible specially when ur animal sufferring we had enough and went to 24h animal hospital we're we waited but got the service we needed in hours instead of week with no response

Bytown Cat Hospital was able to take my cat Frankie, on very short notice. Dr. Nicholson provided amazing care to him and even offered to do the vaccines in the appointment so that I wouldn’t have to pay the exam fee again. I am very pleased with the care we got today and will be taking my other cat for his exam next month. Thank you!

We had some issues with our past veterinary. Our cat has a thyroid problem which our last veterinary couldn't get to stabilize. However, our cat has been great doing since we switched to this veterinary. Dr. Thom really keeps up to date with the latest research and that shows in our cats health and well being.

I have been bringing my cats to this vet for 5 years now. We recently had to put one of my cats down and the staff was very sympathetic and kind throughout the whole process. I love that they specialize in cats only. It makes vet visits less scary for kitties when there are no dogs in the waiting room.

Best vet I've ever had. I only wish they had later hours because it's sometimes hard to go (for checkups and for specialty food) when I have a busy work week. Also not the most convenient location if you don't own a car. But well worth that hassle for great care for your cats.

Basically refused my sick cat and told me to go to an emergency clinic. Every other vet or emerg clinic won't see her either because of covid or being busy. This is insanely frustrating and inhumaine and my cat keeps suffering.

Take your cat. Play with Frank, the resident cat. But watch him, he'll try to make a run for it, which is surprising, because all the people there are super nice and know a lot about the furry murder machines we all love.
