The benchmark of a good bakery are their croissants and while it is easy to get distracted by the vast selection of croissant iterations ranging from ham and cheese to ‘sweet egg’ (?) available at this location, a good croissant should be crispy on the outside and light and flaky on the inside. By no means should you expect Parisian croissants for $3 in Mississauga, but that being said if you want a dense loaf of bread with low quality chocolate, Caldense Bakery seems to be the place. I have been to this location on two separate occasions, and have been greeted by the same subpar, thick ‘bread like’ croissants with low quality oddly acidic chocolate and sickly sweet almond filling each time. While trying to diagnose the problem with their dough, it can most likely be attributed to poor lamination, the butter melting into the dough, or possibly just their poor shaping of the dough(increase number of rolls) . In regard to the fillings a simple fix is to just add some lemon zest to freshen up the almond paste, as it is rather one dimensional . Additionally, although it is traditional to use a cheaper chocolate with a lower cocoa butter in pain au chocolate, the risk of melting out it is minimized in filled croissants. To conclude, despite the fact Caldense Bakery has admittedly aesthetically attractive pastries, it is evident they value style over substance. If you want a more personable service go to Molisana’s, if you want inexpensive baked goods go to a Tim Hortons and if you want high quality pastries go to French Corner Patisserie or Danish Pastry House. With the exception of their Portuguese pastries (which arguably they have very few of), Caldense bakery has failed to find its niche in an already over saturated market.
Mondays are when bakeries take their weekly day off. This is the case for my fav bakeries. So I decided to head over to Caldense to try their baked goods. I ended up ordering some of their cake slices. I chose the Black Forest, Red Velvet, Strawberry Cheesecake and the Strawberry-Lime-Coconut. The cakes were most enjoyable. They were all moist with a good amount of balance between tasting just sweet enough without being overly sweet. Some might wish to enjoy their cakes with maximum sweetness or less etc. But I liked the taste. I also tried the chocolate croissants and some crusty buns ( papo secos). The chocolate croissants were not a hit with my lunch party friends because it was overly sweet. This was made so because there was a crust of brown sugar or something like that on it which made it taste too sweet. The crusty buns were crusty on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. They were a perfect match with some fresh pasta. So all in all I really enjoyed the baked goods and I will return to try their other offerings. Please pop in and let us all know what your thoughts are. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient.
Great bread! Good costumer service. Pastry is good. The only complaints for 2017 are: the service provided during the Christmas holidays: Bolo Rei and Bolo Rainha were extremely, extremely dry, and the Bolo Rainha that was supposed to have some nuts inside, had barely any. Also Tronco de Natal, was covered in white frosting instead of the expected and well known brown and chocolate one. Also I pre-ordered some bread for Christmas Eve and received a call a couple of hours before saying that due to some technical problems they didn't have the padas I had ordered and asking if they could replace them with buns instead! Lol Moreover, on the birthday cake I ordered they forgot to write on it what I had asked for and then the employee could not write it himself as, unlike on the other bakeries around, they don't have the icing or anything to be able to go around an unexpected situation like this.
One of the only pleasures of going to my doctor's office in this plaza is the absolute pleasure of visiting CALDENSE after !!!!! Staff is friendly and fast serving up fresh and crunchy buns of all shapes and sizes.....baked goods which are delightful to try to choose just one or two....and they taste even better than they look. A wonderful source of the flaky and filling Portuguese custard tarts. Deep, dark flavourful coffees to wash all these delicacies down. Today I had the pleasure of getting a breakfast panini called TOSTA MISA...a crunchy bun filled with cheese and ham and flattened to crispy deliciousness in a panini press. ANOTHER VISIT OCTOBER 2nd.....another TOSTA MISA and just as good!!!!!! And the APPLE SQUARE was a delectable finish!!!
I’ve been going to this bakery for 15 yrs because I live two minutes away. Unfortunately, the customer service is just not there. Today, I went in to have breakfast with my son and husband. We ordered what we always order. A simple egg and bacon sandwich for them and eggs and ham on a plate for me. All three breakfasts were wrong. They had to be remake. Then mine came out after they finished eating. I ordered at 10:40 and ate at 11:10… for a simple breakfast ! I Had no coffee by the time mine came and had to eat alone. I asked to speak to the manger and he avoided us and didn’t even come out to apologize. I am Portuguese and I am embarrassed at the customer service that this place has. Unfortunate.
Traditional Portugese desserts. There are cannolis too. Have been a few times. Service is always great and friendly. Bread is very fresh and tasty. Cappuccino's are ok but not gourmet... Need more frothed milk. Espressos are good. Tarts are great. Had an almond croissant that was very tasty and sweet. Great place to sit, relax and wait for prescription to be filled (at the nearby Shoppers Drug Mart) or great meetup spot. Avoid school hour times as can be filled with loud highschool students from the St. Josephs highschool across the street.
The baked goods were very good. The service left a lot to be desired. I was very excited to try Caldense Bakery as I had driven by it a number of times and I love trying new bakeries. When I entered the store excited to try some of the baked goods, I starting asking the girl at the counter what items were in the case and I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. I purchased 3 items (would like likely been more), but I couldn't wait to get out of there. Despite the product being very tasty I will not return after this experience.
Went there on Jan 30 to pick up some baked goods for breakfast and were treated terribly by the manager working there! They were rude to my family and spoke in an extremely ill mannered way - to a point where they made sure to say out loud -"this is me yelling!". Had to walk out and won't be returning here. The younger employee however was very nice and helpful. The owner should take these comments seriously to ensure a safe and respectful environment for the customers. 0/5 stars.
I ordered a queen cake for december 23. 1- it was 1 day delayed , I had to pick it up on the 24 so if you order from them around Christmas time make sure you order it a day or 2 before the actual date you want it. 2- the girl checking us out is slower then my turtle, really looked high 3- queen cake normally has lots of nuts my cake nearly had any. From all i ear about this bakery today i was 100% disappointed, especially with the company that provides there cakes
I always expect the pastries to be great but so far I have had pastries that taste like store bought quality. The brownies are probably the worst I've ever had. The croissants are like bread and don't have the fluffy texture you expect. The small pizzas they have are pretty good though and so that's probably all I will buy here. The coffee is ok as well. Overall it is not a very good quality bakery!
I have been their Mississauga location customer for several years. This morning I was at their bakery at 7 AM and they did not open. On the door their Saturday open timing showed 7 AM whereas online it showed 8AM. I was waiting outside in cold for 30 minutes and finally had to return home. A simple oversight on part of their staff caused 30 minutes of wait for a long standing loyal customer
A nice little place. A typical Portuguese bakery complete with sumol and natis. They have a kind, helpful and attractive staff. fresh bread made daily on which they make very yummy sandwiches on. Lot's of space to sit. busy at the lunch hour and parking lot is always full. not cheap but not over priced either. great espresso based coffees and yes.. "Canadian coffee as well.
food is always good, but not to the point where my business is not apprecuated...customer service is horrible. showed up on Christmas eve to pick up my order and didn't even get a thank you or a merry Christmas as I had to say merry Christmas to the staff who didn't even respond as I walked out dropping 100 bucks... might need to find another place next year...
Great little bakery with great cakes. Went here with my girlfriend for some dessert and we had a couple of their cakes. The cakes we got was their Strawberry Cheesecake (which I remember having many years ago here and it tasting very good) and their Chocolate Cake. Both tasted great and would recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice slice of cake.
When I went to Caldense for the last couple times. I was very please to see such a friendly worker. I have gone to many different Caldense locations but I have never encounter such a well mannered worker. She was the sweetest most polite person I have ever encountered at a fast food restaurant. She definitely deserves some praise! Bravo Valerie
Omg this place is soooooo good. Everything is freshly baked. Warning : if you're addicted to baked good or have a tendency to be addicted to baked goods - STAY AWAY - Otherwise, go enjoy the atmosphere- they have cute tables and chairs and windows everywhere so the sun is always shining in. The place smells great ofc. And the staff is cute.
Portuguese Sweets, cakes, pastries , varieties of bread and delicious custard tart combined with their coffee YUMMY...I love their latte usually take it with a cheese cake or a tart ...the location serves the purpose so well it's a corner unit with alot of sun light makes it a perfect hang out for a winter afternoon.
Out of all the Portuguese bakeries in Mississauga this is my least favorite one. Great products but customer service is not good at all. And if you read the other reviews it's unfortunate that the manager does nothing about it. The bread is good and that's probably the only reason I'd pop in if I had no other option.
I came in to this bakery for the first time to order some sandwiches in the evening and the Afro-Caribbean girl working there was impolite and had a really bad attitude when I asked her some questions about the sandwiches. Terrible customer service by her which makes me take my services to the Bakery on Mavis.
rudedly served ladies washroom closed one hour before closing no lattes or expresso because machine closed at 7:04 pm sweeping under table while we had a stale coffee been to several caldense bakerys first time poor service pls try to do better next time i am proud portuguse and am very dissipointed.
Sandy is very confrontational towards customers, and has poor customer service skills. Beware as they OVERCHARGE on all credit/debit transactions by rounding up - this is an unethical business practice as rounding only applies to cash transactions, since the federal government phased out the penny.
I wish I could give it 0 stars We bought the tiramisu, Oreo cookie, and two others pastries - they tasted stale as if they had been sitting for a few days. Horrible cakes - and this was on a Monday. Other products might be good but I won't return after my experience. I would go to Swirls instead
I got some Portuguese egg tarts and they were amazing and fresh. I was lucky enough to get fresh ones. The tartes were so fresh that they scalded the top of my mouth. The centre was rich and creamy while the outer shell was flakey and crispy. One of the best Portuguese bakeries in mississauga
would give this place 0 star if i could. the pastry was ok but the customer service was terrible. no greetings or thanks from the staffs (the place wasn't even busy). the girl at the counter was annoyed and not very helpful when i asked her questions about the pastry. will not return again.
This place is openly rascist. They only serve their own kind, no need to go if you are no white european, I literally stood at the register for a good 5 awkward minutes and while I was looked at by several workers behind the counter, no one said hi and ignored me when I said hi, yikes.
Only two guys working here around 5pm weekend. First guy just turned around and walked away. Second guy looked at me as if he didn't want me there. I got a cake from here and left quickly. Maybe they have better staff, I don't know. It was my first time there and surely also my last.
Just received a Uber Eats order from Caldense Bakery, we are beyond impressed! The quality was fresh yummy perfection :) We were also very impressed with the friendly notes and great substitution that was made for the item that was not available! Thank you (Obrigada) Caldense team!
This is a really nice bakery and the food is really good, the sandwiches are extremely tasty and well priced. The desserts are superb and when paired with a latte it's simply heaven. The only downside is the slowness of the service, which may be due to the place being very busy.
Love their fresh baked bread and baked goods! They have these small shrimp & cod fish patties that are absolutely delicious! Those patties also come in beef, ham & chicken. Nice clean place that you can go to and bring your family and friends to have coffee and their desserts.
They sell pizza dough, but ours was so tough and hard we couldn’t even roll it out. The bread loafs crumb was too tight, seemed a bit undercooked. The coffee was also stale. I’ve tried numerous pastries and they were good. So I don’t think I’d go here for anything but sweets.
First time ordering from here through UBER Eats, thought I’d give it a try. I got strawberry cheesecake, carrot cake and a couple of natas. Good thing I only got one of each cause it’s definitely a sharing portion. Definitely the best cannoli I’ve had!!!
I walked in and was greeted with such amazing smiles and service. The one lady that took my order was so friendly and provided a lot of help. I used to go there a lot and I'm glad to see that they have kept the amazing rep. Every job deserves a Valerie.
Miserable staff. Noticed people were only buying bread, found out why when we tried the pastries, should have been on a day old display. Disappointing since we were trying a local business in our neighbourhood. Need to learn some customer service skills
The best natas I've ever tasted! Absolutely love Caldense Bakery. The natas were nice and warm and the custard filling was not too sweet. A very friendly atmosphere and excellent customer service. On my next visit, i'll try the espresso with my nata.
This place is a neighbourhood staple that I've been coming to for years. Get yourself a dozen pastel de Nata's and cod cakes to go or grab one with a coffee and enjoy it inside. Their custom cakes for any occasion are also always fresh and tasty.
Unique delicious cakes. Tired of grocery store cakes that are too sweet. Instead ordered a fruit filled and topped cake for a recent birthday event. It was so light and delicious. Planning to go back to sample some of the other tasty treats.
Picked up some sandwiches and desserts after work and everything was delicious! The pork sandwich was delicious with added onions. The tosta mista was super thin, couldn't even see the cheese even though I know it's there since the bread
We were originally unhappy with what we got, I brought it to their attention and they MORE than fixed it. We were extremely happy with the baked good we had ordered and they were super fresh and absolutely delicious! Thank you ladies!! :)
I've been a customer of this bakery for the past 10 years, and they consistently offer a wide array of delicious choices, from their cakes and tarts to buns. Everything I've ordered over the years has been quite tasty, especially their
We often bought pastries here when we lived in the area. So having the chance to stop in was great. However, we were not acknowledged and the person behind the counter wasn't in a hurry to help us. We left without getting anything.
Top rated restaurant if you are into culinary wonders. Healthy masterpieces prepared with extreme care amd precision, balanced to not overwhelm the senses, 100% fresh and 100% natural/organic. Check the own out on Iron Chef Canada.
Just got a red velvet cake on Sunday for my birthday from my cousin. The whole looks like has been frozen for one month in the freezer. The sponge cake part is hard as rock so does the cream cheese frosting! And also too salty.
Great quality. Everything is delicious but sadly customer service sucks... the girls behind the counter always seem so flustered. I hate hounding people but sadly if you dont, something will either be forgotten or messed up.
Well first time here and not as per expectations! Blame it on our choices but we did not have the experience that I was expecting based on the reviews. May be the breads are good here not sure though but below
Good quality of bread...customer service is poor and needs improvement. Kept me waiting 30 minutes for garlic bread after promising delivery in 10 min. Rude when told to refund or change order...Pathetic staff
Yesterday I ordered baguette, some buns and some desserts for breakfast to be delivered. Only desserts came. I wanted to save some time with that delivery, but in the end I had to go to another bakery myself.
Amazing bakery. My family is obsessed with their sweet treats, especially the custard tarts. Their sandwich buns are awesome, too. Add to that their cakes, coffee, savoury snacks and cheeses. All great stuff
The best bakery I have found in NW Mississauga. There is honestly no other bakery in the area that compares. I go out of my way once a week to pick up some morning and evening treats for me and my family.
My favorite bakery, love the red velvet cake, husband loves their cheesecake and the kids love their chocolate and oreo cake...i also love their custard tart, I enjoy pastries from here once per week.
Love their portuguese tarts

This is definitely a hidden gem. I came here as a co-worker recommended it, they have a wide selection of baked foods which are all tasty! It is a bit pricey but I would definitely say it's worth it.
Went here to meet a client, the place is always clean and the associates very prompt, polite and warm. Their desserts are really good. I like dropping by here for sit down coffee or takeout desserts.
Brutal service. I can’t the believe the owner allows the misery that one employee puts in the customers. I was really looking for a nice local place to go to but I guess I’ll need to keep looking.
I thought that it was pretty good I mean I got a brownie and it wasn't as soft as the ones I usually get and when I got a ham and cheese sandwich it was stuffed in it and there wasn't much room.
Nice bakery good choice of desserts cakes and bakery needs. Food is delicious and nice seating area for a quick bite. I never knew about this place until recently .... I will definatley be back.
Amazing coffee and lots of variety of breads. I bought the plain palmier They also sell this biodegradable cup that I bought today! Super useful and ecofriendly Highly recommend
This bakery has great breads , food and sandwiches are really good. I believe this business is excellant value for all their fresh products and the staff are always very friendly and helpful.
Their sandwiches and coffee is so good. The service is nice sometimes it take a little longer but if you're not in a rush it is definitely worth it. Very good food, delicious and fresh.
Cool bakery in Mississauga.. tried Custard Tart and Apple turnover.. baked it to darkened style ..tasted yummy.. Custard Tart is great.. Customer Service could've been better.. …
Lovely bakery with lots of tasty pastries. I always go here for their croissants they're just so good. Make sure to grab their custard tarts too! Staff are very kind and friendly :)
Love the cod croquettes, meat, chicken and shrimp pasteis/little fried empanadas. Creamed filled donuts are also some of my favorite things Staff speak Portuguese and English …
My very first visit to Portuguese bakery and I love it.. the specialty custard tart were to die for. I also had macaroons of different flavours and it tasted delicious …
First time customer and the last. Spent $14 on 4 pastries and they were stale. They had the fresh ones visible in the front of display but sold the stale ones from the back.
Everything is fresh and always delicious. The girls do a great job, but as a general reminder always double check your order, as sometimes they may miss certain items.
I ordered a last-minute cheesecake for a birthday. They were nice enough to accommodate my request and the cake itself was spectacular. Great service and quality!
There all time best, pastel de nata, the modified Nutella de nata and the cakes. Tasted really good and not overly sweet. Their strawberry cheese cake is awesome
easy access. fresh bread nd good baked sweets for morning coffe . they the best when it comes to serving customers. I recommend everyone to go check the place .
Got a ham and salami pastry. Very tasty! Staff were friendly enough. The other pastries looked really good too. Would stop in again next time I'm in the area.
Just order and could not believe the the incorrect order received and how it was made i will be posting pictures so you know who order its was you just made
Great food, awful service. Every time I go here the employees are so incredibly rude it’s barely worth going back. A real shame given how good the food is.
The fresh portuguese buns are so good! Daily treats are made fresh, latte was just right. Their tosta mista are so yummy (Grilled ham and cheese sandwich)
Love it they have soup, bread, sweets and they also sell some portuguese products like Cafe, tuna, marmalada.. A taste of Portugal in Mississauga …
Latte was good but red velvet cake a bit too sweet for my liking and Orange tart was gelatinous and didn't taste of Orange. Service was fine.
Arguably the best Portuguese bakery. The family was very happy with everything we got for Christmas. The bolo rei (king cake) is five stars.
Nice place for coffee and snack. Cool and relaxing - I tried to get away from the usual busy coffee joints but will go there more often now
As with most places, the price is increasing while the size of the product is decreasing, as goes inflation. Good tasting products though.
Great place, unfortunately the apple strudels doesn't have much apple pieces. The coconut ring and tart that I have tried are amazing.
Brings me back to Portugal, the little Bistros in downtown Lisbon. Service is prompt, prices are reasonable, will definitely be back.
Tasted their Merange, it's sweet and sticky, they must have over baked it. Otherwise, the bakery serves good Portuguese custard pies.
1st time trying it, the bread are a bit hard. Not recommended for elderly. The cake is too sweet, also not recommended for old ppl.
Every sunday I arrive at 8:10 and there are never any buns. Why open if you don’t have buns. The bakers need to come in earlier.
The most delicious custard tarts! Occasionally I try the soup if I stop by (for tarts) around lunch, which is also very tasty.
What a bakery... So far I've had almost everything here and nothing disappointed me. And the staff are amazing people.
Fresh baked pastries. Call ahead if you have an event to cater for. Beautiful cakes. Value for goodies. Great service!
Lord have mercy! Let's just say once am done with this review, I'm going over to Caldense to please my palette.hehe
Very nice staff and excellent products, breads and pastries. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. More
I love this place!!! I have been coming for years. Espresso is great!!! Natash are so good and fresh as well.
Very busy. Good customer service. Customers lining up outside as per local Covid-19 protocols. Well done.
If you're used to any of the other locations, don't expect the same service or food quality / taste here
Amazing breads, deli, sweets and even breakfast and other meals. All fresh.. Service was very good.
Love the fish patties. So yummy. Had their desserts. It was average. Didn't like the coffee much.
I was at the Portuguese take out next door, they have really good Bifana and bbq chicken.
Their custard tarts are AMAZINGGG. Even better than the ones I’ve had in Portugal itself!
The Portuguese sweet bread was delicious, however the Italian canoli weren't fresh.
Nice selection very helpful staff. Wish we had one near us in Alliston.
Good bread, good coffee, good pastries, fair prices, friendly staff.
I've tried their custard tarts and coconut rolls. Very tasty!
This is where I buy fresh goat cheese. My family enjoys it.
