MCMASTER STUDENTS BEWARE! McMaster Campus Dentist is deceptive in their billing and will take advantage of you and your student insurance plans. They will surprise and con you with large, unnecessary hidden fees on top of your treatment. They do not care if your insurance actually covers it or not. They do not care about their patients (and their student budgets), nor do they care about providing quality oral healthcare. They charged me $130 for requesting a quote for how much it would cost to repair/replace my retainer (not including the actual cost of the retainer, which was $570 and NOT covered by my insurance.) I first called on the phone to ask for a quote. She scheduled me in for an appointment anyway (which I would later realize is a trick to bill me, though at the time I assumed it was to make the discussion easier in-person.) I just wanted to know how much the retainer would cost, whether my insurance would cover it, and whether I could afford it or not. She did NOT disclose to me that there would be upfront costs associated, though she had many opportunities to. At the office, I was in there for 5 MINUTES. No work was done on my teeth. I made it clear again that I wasn't here for a cleaning or anything, I just wanted to know the price and my options. The hygienist (who was very nice) insisted to put a bib on me anyway. The dentist (who was also very nice) grabbed a binder and looked up the prices in there. She talked to me about my options and told me to think about it and that there was no rush to get back to her. As I was leaving, the front desk lady stops me with the bill of $130. I was confused - I haven't even received any treatments yet! She said I need to pay for seeing the dentist. I was in there for 5 minutes, and all I wanted to know was the price for what the potential treatment could cost. I didn't even know if I could afford it. I tried to reason with her for half an hour and she lowered my bill to $65. Why is this even a flexible pricepoint? I'm not here to bargain with them - This is unreasonable. There were many, many, many opportunities to make the fees clear to their patients so they may be better informed about what was happening. Furthermore, there is no way that 5 minutes of asking for a quote should justify a $130 bill. This is excessively overpriced and a borderline con. You may argue that many dentist offices are like this - But why are we allowing one like this to operate on our university campus? Campus Dentist should not be allowed to run their business at McMaster University, where they are clearly preying on students for their insurance plans. They are sly, deceptive conmen, and ruining the university's reputation with such an operation. McMaster University - You need to respond to this. Based on the reviews I see online, I know my experience is not unique. I am not here to just complain about my personal experience - this is an injustice we are allowing to operate at our university. Your students are being fooled, and our insurance partners are being excessively billed, which will eventually lead to the raising of our fees.
I highly do not recommend this place unless it's for something simple like getting your teeth cleaned. I went in for a cavity filling and a regular check up, and was told that any sensitivity around the cavity filling might persist for a few weeks. A few months have gone by and the tooth feels even more sensitive than how it felt before the filling. They had also told me that I have a wisdom tooth growing in... so I went to visit my family dentist and was surprised to find that I didn't have any wisdom teeth at all. I honestly don't know how a dentist can mistaken a second molar for a wisdom tooth? He also told me that the campus dentist did not do my cavity filling properly as it resulted in a "bonding failure" which is what's causing me pain/sensitivity. So now my family dentist has to fix the cavity filling I had done before with the campus dentist. I also went back to the campus dentist complaining that the cavity filling was causing me pain, but their "reason" did not correspond to the same response my family dentist had given me. It seems much more serious than how they treated my concern. But overall, their dentists are very sweet people. I just wouldn't go back there ever again.
If I could give negative stars, I would have. Would not recommend getting dental work done here, even if it is an emergency, trust me. My experience with the staff member's was awful, and the interaction was not only the worst I have ever experienced at a dental office, it was the worst interaction I have ever had with a human being. Instead of listening to the issues I told them about, they were more interested in me booking a wisdom teeth extraction (in order to make more money). At the end of my 'appointment' that consisted of the dentist poking my teeth with a q-tip dipped in nitrogen, I was told that my tooth was fine (when I have prior x-rays that state the contrary) and that I should really book an appointment for a wisdom teeth extraction and a full x-ray (not fully covered by mac's dental insurance and cost a lot of money). Not to mention that I was charged $130! Just for that. Save yourself the money and time. You would be better off getting your dental advice from a pre med student in an alleyway with a headlamp and pliers.
If you're receiving wisdom teeth extraction from here, request a doctor that isn't Dr. Ramy Majid. On the day that I received the surgery, he had voiced how busy he was to his dental assistant, and after he had finished removing my tooth I thought it was all fine and dandy. However, the numbing in my left jaw never wore away. A few days later, I realized he must have hit a facial nerve - 1.5 years later, I still cannot feel a part of my face. I had sent several emails throughout the course of these past 20 months and he never followed through with sending me to a nerve specialist until last month, only to find out I would have to pay a $325 consultation fee just to see this specialist for a situation he caused. I'm unhappy with the situation and I understand there are risks to the surgery but his lack of efficient communication is something I do not admire. Save yourself the permanent nerve damage and visit an oral surgeon instead.
I had a great experience with the dentist and the hygienist here! I have dental anxiety and hadn't been for a while after moving to a new city but they were kind and showed a lot of concern for me being anxious and wanted to make me comfortable. I still have my wisdom teeth and, while they recommend by default to have them removed, they were still happy to let keep them and try to maintain them even though it can be difficult. The cleaning was fantastic and I can't wait to go back again. There are some much more negative reviews over the past few years but they must have made some significant changes because I'm ready to go back and I'm usually terrified of the dentist!
DEAR STUDENTS THEY ARE A SCAM! Firstly, I went for a cleaning and checkup and when I arrived they told me their hygienist was not working that day and was only getting a check up. They did not call or email ahead of time to let me know. Secondly, the dentist took X-rays and told me I had 6 cavities! And recommended me to get them filled. I went back to my family dentist over reading week and they also took X-ray and found 0 cavities. How do you go from 6 cavities to 0 in a few weeks? They just want to scam students. Do not recommend.
I have always found campus dentist to be helpful and convenient. I usually book a dentist appointment every semester. It is right on campus so I don't have to take so much of my day just to travel to a dentist office. The campus dentist staff are used to helping students so they take cost into consideration when recommending plans of treatment. Mac dental coverage is completly understood and kicks in automatically, which is also convenient. They were able to catch a cavity before it cause furthur issues.
Horrible experience waited for an left without even getting my teeth cleaned the whole staff is dysfunctional and they keep blaming technology but it’s clear they themselves have no idea what they are doing. Additionally, it’s dark crowded and overall the staff is slow and uncommunicative, whic definitly contributed to the negative experience. My suggest don’t bother wasting your time with people who have no people skills.
Overall, the experience was not negative. However, I was displeased that I was charged $60 for a simple examination that lasted perhaps 5 seconds on ONE tooth! The dentist did not even bother checking my other teeth, just the one teeth that needed an occlusal done. I was not happy that I was not informed that I would be charged for an oral examination. Does that even count as a full examination?
One of the worst experiences I have had at a dentist's office. The receptionist is extremely rude and inconsiderate of patients who are uncomfortable with dental procedures. This place is all about getting people in and out without really being attentive to the person and their feelings. I would not waste your money here unless you have no other option or you have no issue going to the dentist.
Be careful with this place, this guys are thieves, they charge you for work not done, appointments that they cancel they charge you and they pass it to your insurance, after the remnant they want to you to pay and if you do not pay the extra amount they send it to some debt collectors who call you and insult you . Horrible experience, Campus dentist at MacMaster University.
I like Campus Dentist and have watched it develop over the years as I continue to go even after graduating. I really like the new hygienist (Maureen, I think) and the dentist seems to run a conservative practice, only recommending work that's needed and everyone seems focused on quality service. I like this place alot.
Do not bother wasting your time here. I came in for a consultation and they claimed I had an infection in my teeth. I went to my family dentist afterwards and all I needed was for my wisdom teeth to be removed. If I had gone through them I would’ve had an unnecessary tooth removed.
I was last here 4 years ago but thought should share. The hygienist was rude and the cleaning was painful which I've never experience elsewhere. The x-rays were low quality. This clinic is just a scam to get money out of student health coverage.
The hygienist still did a good job cleaning my teeth without using the usual equipment due to the rules from the pandemic, and she was patient with my questions and concerns regarding my teeth. The receptionist was also very welcome and helpful.
The staff is unbelievably friendly and highly educated...they thoroughly explain everything to you and make sure you understand. All the dentist clinics I have been to this one is by far the best because they take their time and do not rush.
Go else where when possible. Bombards you with emails to set up an appointment then refuses to give you one till a month later. Only does minor work, great hygenist, terrible receptionist. They prioritize their interests over yours.
It was very helpful with short waiting time. Dr listened carefully to me and do his best to determine proper treatment for my pain. Also the assistant nurse was very helpful. Appreciating a lot your time and the help <3
I love having seen Dr Chatta. He is very knowledgeable and I trust him taking care of my teeth. The hygienist and front seat were very nice and helpful. I will continue to see them for my dental needs.
Charged me $30 for a quote on the price of night guard I never said I wanted because I knew night guards would be too expensive for me. It’s ridiculous.
The reception is very rude in dealing with students, especially the Asian short lady at the reception is the worst, very unfriendly and impatient.
Everyone in the clinic is so nice and friendly. I've been going there for 3 years now and I'd recommend it to anyone seeking for a dentist clinic.
My experience at Campus Dentist at McMaster has been wonderful. All the staff are exceptionally warm and friendly and great at their jobs!
The staff was very friendly, however they didn’t finish my cleaning and I had to pay full price, because of a lots of technical issues.
This is my go to place for my checkup and cleaning. The staff is amazing, especially Julie, who is very accommodating and considerate.
went to ask a couple of questions and the receptionist was really nice and answered all my questions in ways i can understand!
Dentist and assistants are very kind, but the receptionists are extremely rude. Really ruined the experience for me.
One of the worst experiences I had. Just don’t waste your time there. Much better treatment some other places.
I've only ever had a great experience at Campus Dentist. Julie and Sujana are helpful and good at their jobs.
Great experience each time I have gone for a cleaning. Appreciate their diligence and accessibility.
Good service! Everyone was kind and helpful, which made the overall experience easygoing.
Courteous staff, friendly hygienist, knowledgeable dentist. Highly recommended.
Great service. Very professional. Have definitely earned my vote …
Fantastic service! Great dental care done! Will definitely come back!
