The Champagne French Bakery Cafe has a lot to offer, but doesn't deliver on some key points regarding classics. Context: Came here multiple times and tried a portion of what they have to offer. Pros: The croissants were pretty decent for being made in the U.S. The big fruit tart was good, nice and crispy on the outside with a good zest to the cream. The California Benedict was a good option and tasted relatively good, with the Hollandaise sauce being a very good addition. The Crab Benedict was good, although it didn't have as much crab as it was advertised to. The staff were nice and were very helpful. Cons: The mini tarts they had were clearly old and were soggy. They were falling apart and was very nasty in your mouth. The sandwich I had one day was covered in oil and was pretty disgusting. My hands were slick and slippery after I ate. The crepes were really not anything to write home about. Just okay, and not really crispy enough. Clearly they don't know what a Tiramisu is. Their take on a Tiramisu is a dry spongy mess that makes you want to vomit, if you've tasted a Tiramisu before. Overall, this place is more hype than anything. They need to dispose of things after they go bad.
The Dark Roast coffee is pretty good and refills are free while there. It should go without saying that the pastries, cookies and other baked goods are really good! But then there's the food! If the French Onion soup is any indication of the rest of their offerings, then try (and this is difficult, I know) to avoid the baked goodies and have a cooked breakfast or lunch. Maybe dinner? Also....they have beer and wine! This location has a patio area which is nice. It does look out to the parking lot but believe me, it's very entertaining watching the "locals" attempt to drive! The indoor dining area is small with about four tables with four chairs each and four two chair tables along the windows. Also two tables that have cushy "booth" seating on one side and two chairs on the other. Lastly, the employees are friendly, hospitable and very helpful. Can't say enough about them. Come here, eat here and if possible, excuse the locals....or just get a good laugh at their expense. Almost forgot, wifi is free and speed was good, at least when I was there.
Incredibly disappointed by their desserts. First time buyer, took 2 slices of every cake they had today for my wife's birthday, barely ate a couple teaspoons of each as they are absolutely disgusting. Vanilla Eclairs are basically chocolate bars - they have such thick layer of chocolate that you can't feel anything else beside the barely chewable solid piece of chocolate. 1/10. Tiramisu cake is named 100% wrong, nothing in it reminds of tiramisu, it's just "some cake" that does not taste any good. 2/10. Black Forrest cake - overly moist cake that falls apart and tastes bad. 1/10. Three-layer chocolate cake - tastes like 3 layers of some vegetable oil, the worst of the worst. 0/10. Buttery Croissants were delicious though, 10/10. I would understand if those cake slices were $0.49 each - you get what you pay for, but for $7.49 it's unbelievably bad. $60 thrown into trash.
Love the Jesuit pastry here! That and the Princess Cake slice are probably my favorite items here. However they recently raised the prices on the cake slices so i now just skip those and go straight for the Jesuit. Hands down it's my favorite almond pastry to date. It's soft, buttery, and melt in your mouth goodness. I live in Mira Mesa and it's sometimes a 25 min drive depending on traffic but i'm willing to do it just for the Jesuit. I'm not usually a croissant/danish type fan, and not a huge almond lover but this pastry has the bear claw beat by thousands of miles. Minus one star because it can get super busy here, especially during lunch time. It can be quite a wait until it's your turn to order as some people take forever to decide on what they want.
My mother, sister and I decided to doordash this place since the reviews were great, but sadly this was not the case for us. We paid over $50 for charred potatoes, smushed sandwiches, and soggy & stale lettuce. I could go on but it really wasn’t good, and especially since we paid $50+, our expectations were not met. Unfortunately, we couldn’t even finish our meals and most of them went in the trash being barely touched. I can give props to the doordasher, he was very sweet & had great communication skills but the food itself was NOT up to par whatsoever. The only things that weren’t too bad were the strawberry crepes, which is sad considering we ordered close to 6 items. If I could rate this experience 0 stars, I would.
It is a nice place to gather with friends in a Saturday or Sunday morning for a lite breakfast or early lunch. They have a good selection of bakery, make to order breakfast and coffee. We enjoyed their bottomless Lavazza coffee, and with these options: medium, dark or decaf and very fresh. Their baguette are regularly fresh out of their oven, it is hard to find a good French Baguette around San Diego. It is similar to the Baguette we had on our trip to Europe few years ago. It is a good place for a Saturday morning breakfast with few friends.

The selection of pastries & desserts was quite impressive; we had a difficult time choosing. We agreed upon a an elegant-looking Princess Cake & it was a huge hit! Everyone went on & on about how unbelievably delicious it was. This delicate, fluffy cake was layered with a light mousse (hazelnut, I believe) & coated in a decadent, rich chocolate ganache, but the best part was the praline layer - it was not only delectable, but it also added a fantastic, crunchy texture to the cake (I'd go as far as to say that the praline layer is what made the cake so amazing!). We plan to return & try some of their breakfast/brunch items, as well enjoying more to their dessert selections
Services and Quality. I really LOVE strawberry and mixed berries tart. They are delicious . My disappointment point is because you depend if you are Lucky to get a fresh one. A few months ago they begin to sell them even if the tart is NOT fresh, the pastry is wet Not crunchy the fruit is bad. I never returned because I lived far away. Last week I did it. I bought 6 tart all of them old. Today I came back thinking is early morning they must have fresh. My surprise was Not. When I ask about fresh because I need more than 6 . They said with a bad attitude " we will not prepare more for today" . They increase the price 40%. I expected QUALITY. Very disappointed
I enjoy this shop as they're pastries and things are pretty good. It's always quite busy but the atmosphere is bright. Prices are to be expected for any French bakery (high), but the service is fast and the young employees are usually chipper (nice). There's outdoor seating as well. It's very conveniently located right next door to a Trader Joe's. Don't plan to park in front of the business as those spots are nearly impossible to get, and even harder to get out of. Traffic is always congested near this place. This is a good spot to enjoy a quick coffee and a pastry with someone. Bringing groups here might be a little challenging depending on when you go.
Absolutely love Champagne. Been going here several years now and the food always reminds me of the freshness and flavor of food in southern France. Only wish they'd come to South Bay where I'd be, along with many other folks, every week. In the meantime, my mom and I enjoy traveling to Carmel Mountain for lunch and bring treats home with us to enjoy later. Favorites include anything with crab (salad, crab melt, crab Benedict) and chocolate mousse. Their salad niçoise is better than what I had in Nice, the tuna is plentiful and tasty. My mom's in love with all their cookies. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the white peach tea is, too.
My wife suggested to try this place for the first time and I took her and my 5 yrs old boy to the Bakery to enjoy and have some fun! We took three pieces of cakes that was not great but the worst part was a burnt chicken crispy for my son. When came to my table I couldn't believe they brought up the burnt chicken I thought only the color is very dark brown! Fortunately my son took off their thick burnt skin and ate the middle of the chicken only but I ate the whole thing and really feel sick now. It was so difficult to drive home and got a severe headache, and feeling I am going to throw up! This is the worst experience!
Thanks place wasn't as "warm or cozy" as would have liked, but we we're incredibly surprised by the quality of the food. The 1/2 soup/sandwhich was about 2x the amount of Paneras version and MUCH better and fresher tasting. There were full bowls of soup. I had tomato basil and my husband french onion and they were great..I had a chicken panini which was delicious. But by far the French dip was best an amazing. I've had french dips many places but this one was hands-down MUCH better than any other I've ever had (including a very expensive one at a butchers). We will definitely return here.
Really nice french bakery...lots to choose from with a good variety of mostly sweet-leaning items. Our group had regular, chocolate and raspberry-almond croissants, orange -cranberry scone and a berry muffin and all were excellent. I'll likely go back to try the cream cheese danish and the ham & cheese danish eventually. Prices were 3.99 for plain croissant and I believe 4.99 for the flavored ones. They also have bags of mini-croissants and mini-chocolate chip cookies ($6.99 for these) for quick grab and go. They also serve fresh orange juice and other bottle drinks.
An excellent local bakery with a great assortment of baked goods, cakes and breakfast items. The place inside is not too big but you can grab a table and have delicious breakfast- they make excellent quiche. Or grab a cappuccino and a pastry. Their almond croissant is heavenly. If there is a special occasion order a cake from them and you will never regret.

Grilled Chicken Panni and Kids French Toast - Ordered though GrubHub. Food arrived quickly but was disgusting. The 'french toast' arrived cold, burnt, and greasy. The slice of bacon was microwaved. The panni was cold and smothered in way too much sauce. Literally could not take a bite with out it oozing out of every side. Fries were over cooked. Ended up throwing both out. Had really high reviews, maybe we just got unlucky but I was very surprised by how low quality both meals were.

Me, my mother, sister and my grandmother with dementia all decided to give this place a try because it is “French” cuisine, which my grandmother likes, and had raving reviews. Not only was the food really overpriced but it did not taste that great. I had the crab Benedict, in which the crab tasted like it came out of a can, and the hollandaise sauce was bland. The chocolate chip cookie and vanilla eclair were corn stale and lacked flavor. My mother and sister didn’t like their meals either. It gets one star because my grandma liked chocolate cake.
Delicious salads and French desserts. Nice menu of traditional French café food. Finding a parking space during lunchtime might take some patience as this shopping center is a popular place. You order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to your table. It's a small place, but feels large with the surrounding big, glass windows. There is some outdoor seating which is on the sidewalk facing a busy parking lot entrance, but the patrons don't seem to mind. Located two stores down from Trader Joe's.
I have to say I was underwhelmed by the pastries but not as much as I was by the service, they were obviously understaffed. The cashier was also the barista and we had to wait that she was done ringing other customers to get our latte and tea. I was meeting with a client and she asked for extra hot water for her tea and was told to go get it at the counter. Is that the service you get for an almost $60 tab? Not likely to go back

Their croissants look authentic, but don't let their appearance fool you. They taste nothing like the light, buttery and flaky French pastry you should expect and taste far more like Wonder Bread, the kind you can roll into a tight little ball, than a French Croissant. I don't know what other recipes FiveStar "Gourmet" changed since Jacques sold out, but based on their inability to maintain the quality of the calling card of a French Bakery, I wouldn't be tempted to try.
Its located near Trader Joe's in Carmel Mountain. The pastries and desserts are freshly baked and super delicious. The have combo meals of a sandwich and soup. We got half Spinach goat cheese quiche and half tomato bisque soup. Also half French onion soup and half French bread dip in sauce. We had the raspberry almond croissant and coconut white macadamia chocolate chip for dessert and everything was sumptuous.
I fell in love today, will be comming back to try more of their meals and pastries. I got a tiramisu cake, carmel macchiatos and a hot french dip sandwhich with spring salad. It was delicous! They have seasonal sandwiches as well as cakes to take and some made to order. The orders were quick and service was excellent. Sit outside if you can to enjoy the nice sunny days. Take to go or stay, its all really good.
This is based on the pastries. I was reading all the reviews so I was pretty excited about this place. I ordered the mini fruit tarts, strawberry mousse cake and a peach turnover. The tarts were not good. The crust on fruit tart tasted old. The cake was ok, the mousse is delicious but I was not a fan of the cake itself it was kinda dried. The turnover was not bad it was flaky. I'm not sure I would go back.
I have been going to champagne for years. Yesrerday was the last time TERRIBLE experience. Food took 45” to get to our table. I ordered breakfast crepes with eggs swiss cheese ham - standard order. For those who know crepes, they usually end up shaped like a semi circle with the fillings inside. These were 3 small rolled crepes slightly cooler than room temp with egg and ham inside. No cheese.
This place is just too good for a normal google review. I'd need to express its greatness with an interpretive dance with a very impactful musical score behind it. Even then, conveying such lofty praise would escape me, and I'd fall to my knees exhausted, limited by my mortal frame, unable to speak the language of the culinary gods. Try the California Benedict and you'll understand.
Ordered a tuna sandwich to-go. The bread was stale, lettuce was brown (nearly spoiled) and tomatoes were soggy. Ordered potato salad as a side & they were out. And didn’t have any forks for the order; they they’ve been out since the weekend. Bummer experience overall.

I tried the Desert Pear Lemonade! So sour but I loved it. My wife and I split the crab eggs Benedict and Mixed Berry French Toast. The bread wasn’t very sweet but went so well with the lemonade. The portions are pretty big. We really could have shared a single plate. My suggestion is to stick with the Croissant Breakfast Sandwhich. Unless you’re feeling adventurous.
When I called I was out on hold for 8 mins before I could even place my order What I got: The Sorriest pale looking birthday cake with raw strawberries on it FOR $50!!! And guess what! they don’t even sell birthday candle. Good luck with that! I’d rather drive to Miramar’s Paris Baguette

The sandwiches, salads, and French toast are very good. I especially like the French dip sandwich. The cakes, pastries, and desserts are excellent. Parking can be nearly impossible during busy times on weekends because of all the businesses sharing a relatively small parking lot. We have actually given up and gone elsewhere when we haven't been able to find a spot.
The food is good. The pastries are amazing. The customer service SUCKS! The staff is rude and short with the customers (not just me). I also tried to call on one occasion to order a cake. I was placed on hold twice for over five minutes before I hung up each time. I took my business elsewhere. I will go back to eat, but with low expectations for good service.
Excellent food. I'd really have to nitpick to try and find anything wrong with my experience. The baked items were fantastic. The sandwich was delicious, and the fruit very obviously high quality and fresh in the side. I'd come here just for a baked item and drink, with how good my drink was as well. Wish they had a location closer to home, I'd be a regular.
We had sandwiches and salads. Everything was fresh looking and tasting. Portions were decent sized. Nice little lunch spot in a strip mall. (The desserts looked amazing. There is certainly a lot of choices. I think it’s 3 full refrigerators of colorful pastries. We didn’t eat any because I’d already had my sugar allotment for the day. Next time)
Delicious food, excellent service, and outdoor seating (keep someone at the table for the birds).

Great macaroons! I havent tried anything else yet but the macaroons were perfect. They have pastries and cakes and all kinds of desserts. The staff was very friendly and gave flavor options. The strawberry macaroon was my favorite along with vanilla. It's a small cafe with some tables inside and outside, good for parties of no more than 6
The food usually takes awhile to get to the table. The employees are not friendly at all and give you an attitude if you ask for something. It used to be a nice atmosphere but not anymore

I've only eaten here once, but definitely plan to return. My husband and I each had a quiche and an iced coffee. The quiches were delicious with a nice flaky crust, and the coffee was strong. Only complaint is that they cram a lot of tables inside a small restaurant, which makes even approaching the counter difficult.
Hopefully this is helpful. I ordered the Chicken Florentine Crepes today and the chicken was unfortunately very dry. This is very unusual because everything else I’ve gotten here is delicious and well cooked. Maybe just an off morning :)

Great place for weekend breakfast. The selection is great, and you can get a box of macrons to go! Seating inside is limited and it can get busy and a bit loud, so I like sitting outside. They need some pigeon management but nothing worse than any other city Cafe. The red breakfast potatoes were perfect.
We had a late lunch on Saturday, November 18 between 1-3p, the girls who were working at that time didn’t seem to have a good attitude. It is a shame that you have good food but not good service :(

well, I grew up eating frech pastery, and this place has almost nothing like that. another experience I had was with a front couter rude lady. she looked like she was in jail or something, no smile, no thanking. when it comes to pastry taste, my 10 years old daughter will d better that that.
I got the an éclair and a fruit tart. The éclair was not very fresh, only somewhat filled with custard and on the dry side. On top of that it was twice as expensive as other bakeries. Try Edelweiss bakery in RB. It is some what hard to find, but the best eclairs and baked goods in the area.
My new go-to place for a nice cafe in Poway. We had the guava & cheese pastry, bread pudding, and fruit tart. All decadent but my favorite was the guava treat. It actually tasted like real guava. The latte didn't have a design on top but the mugs were large giving it a cafe feel.
Great place for breakfast (breakfast panini) and lunch. The showcase is filed with tasty pastry, cakes, and other delicious treats. Always look forward to going back!

This place had Delicious French Cakes, But it's Worthy to Have it On your Birthday!!!, Lots of people have Said it's expensive, but they don't know How Good it's is until you try it. And also It's Not easy to make French cake Perfect!!! Enjoy!!!! …
While the cakes were visually appealing, the taste was a bit too sweet for my liking. The tiramisu pastry did not quite match my expectations, as it lacked the authentic flavors of the classic dessert. Additionally, I found the cream filling to be a bit overwhelming.
This place was perfect. Wide range from beautiful pastries to full on meals, and good cafe selection. The breakfast I had was a very large portion, much more food then I was expecting, and it was amazingly delicious. This is going to be my go to place from now on.
Exceptional service in house and good food, but it’s hard to make a note in the online order form, so I didn’t get the fork I requested and managed to eat my crepe with my hands.

Great place for brunch . My wife's go-to brunch choice is the strawberries and cream crepes . I get the 'build your own omelette' with spinach, roasted bell peppers and goat cheese. The omelette comes with a baguette and roasted potatoes. Coffee is excellent.
Wow, I walked in and not one person said good morning or hello or nothing. And in addition my cake that I ordered three days before wasn't even ready. Additionally it cost $45 how ridiculous. And not one person there is French! I certainly won't be going back
We came here for the first time because it was close to the house. Overall it's a decent place. A bit pricey and the pastries weren't that fresh. Probably wouldn't come back here.

This is my second visit to the bakery and both times I have thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast. The omelettes are so yummy and today, I tried the croissant breakfast sandwich. It was so tasty and was served with fried red potatoes. I will definitely return.
Gave you 2 stars because the pastries were very good (4,+); service was absolutely awful. Good food is important, but can't make up for insolence, laziness, rudeness. We were there 30 minutes and the woman who sold us our food never said a pleasant word.

Nice location. Good coffee and pastries. Ladys helping very efficient and pleasant, however the one guy assisting is an issue. He will use his fi gers to crush and imprison t their shape in your pastries. Persistent doing this. This is a health issue.
They got the Croque Monsieur sandwich just right. High quality ham and cheese, very good bechamel sauce and it tasted authentic, yum. Standard salad greens were served on the side but the dressing was exceptionally good. Like a creamy
Scones are great! Bought at 0800, ate two hours later. Soft and moist, not too sweet. Inside clean and safe, felt very comfortable despite pandemic. They have screen between cashier and guests, large airflow, hand sanitizer available
Exquisitely FRESH croissants made all the difference!!! These croissants were baked TODAY; not last week or yesterday a’la coffee places. The sandwich came with a well toasted split croissant filled with chopped Andoville sausage,
$11 for toasted bread and some roast beef... While the quality of their desserts are definitely worth the price I was really let down by the food. The quality and price did not match. Also, a handful lettuce is not a spring salad.

Great spot for lunch. The French dip and Lorraine quiche are my favorites. The flavored tea they have is really good also. As far as their desserts, literally anything in that display case will satisfy your sweet tooth.
Less fancy decor than their Del Mar heights location. Other than that it's a chain so menu options are about the same. Jesuite is always good. For some reason I liked the Chicken Florentine crepe here better though.

Quaint, cozy bakery in a busy shopping center in Carmel Mountain Ranch. Decadent bakery items with a small but satisfying menu for breakfast, etc. Cooked to order. Additional outside seating.
The best pastries ever! A bit pricey but we all need a treat every now and then! The staff are just the best, nothing is too much trouble for them, they aim for total customer satisfaction.
Fast service. My go to orders are their California eggs Benedict and the chicken Florentine crepes. Their tomato soup is also good. For a sweet entree, I like their brioche French toast.
Manager working the register not wearing mask, and she’s the one interacting w 100’s of customers daily face to face. Other staff and all wearing masks - the manager is special I guess.

Good selection of pastries, sometimes the quality is not consistent. Menu items are good, from eggs to salads to soups and salads. Can get crowded at certain times on the weekend.
Good coffee and nice place for breakfast. I like their omlets and bacon and eggs. Some of my ex-coworkers meet here monthly to shoot the breeze and enjoy coffee and a pastry.
The food here is awesome but there customer service not so much 1st they were rude 2 they told us they would check for our food that came out 1 hour and 30 min. LATE . …
Love this restaurant and if your looking for really amazing pastries it’s a must you try them from here. My favorite is the breakfast sandwich and add spinach and mushrooms.
Food was over priced and not that good. I paid extra for a fruit cup side that only had a few pieces of fruit in it. I found a hair in my sandwich. Wouldn’t recommend!
The food at this amazing bakery is incredible. Very few places in this area have truly excellent food like this. So far as lunch and brunch goes, this is in my top 5!

What a joke. Placed an order for pick up, chicken pesto and a side of potato salad and this is how much salad they gave me …
I've been there a several times and have never been disappointed. Their sandwiches, pastries, desserts, and drinks address all delicious.
One of the most delicious Frappuccinos we've ever taste. My daughter was pleased with the macaroons, they are delicious like no others.
Love their pastries. I tried the almond and raspberry croissants, chocolate twist and 2 fruit tarts fir a ladies brunch all loved them.
Beautiful French Cafe in Carmel Mountain. Enjoy a French Dip, Macaroons, and Italian roast with a beautiful view of the mountains.
The croque monsieur and jesuit pastry along with friendly service has had me return for 20 years. Great place to start your day.
I have been here twice, is an excellent place, food, atmosphere and service, a must if you ever are in This part of the world.
The pastries here are 10/10. My husband said his muffin was the best he ever had, and he is a hater. So that’s bold statement.
Probably the best cappuccino you'll find in the area. A little pricey but everything is super tasty. Haven't had a miss yet.
This is a great French Cafe! They have incredible desserts and a large array of choices. Their quiche is also excellent!
Busy place with super good pastry. Not the best customer service but it’s a good place to eat yummy coffee plus pastry.
