Cranbourne railway station is a railway station and the current terminus of the South Gippsland line, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Cranbourne, opening on 1 October 1888. It is the terminus of Cranbourne line services from the city. Cranbourne station opened on 1 October 1988, as a station on the South Gippsland line, that until 24 July 1993, was serviced by V/Line services to Leongatha. Between March 1920 and June 1956, trains regularly ran from a series of sidings about a mile south of the station, dispatching between ten and thirty trucks per week loaded with locally mined construction-quality sand. However, the Victorian government still has plans to reintroduce rail services to Leongatha in the future, as well as extending the electrified line 3.5 kilometres to Cranbourne East and possibly Clyde. The last regular train ran beyond Cranbourne on 15 January 1998, when the Koala Siding (near Nyora) to Spotswood station sand train ceased operation. A water tank located within the former train yard was removed in early 1973. In November 1993, Train Order Workingreplaced Electric Staff safeworking to Cranbourne, then on 24 March 1995, the electrification and power signalling on the line was commissioned from Dandenong. In April 2008, work started on the construction of six train stabling sidings at Cranbourne, to enable more trains to run on the line at peak times without duplicating the line. The works were completed in November 2008. As part of these works the station & bus interchange received an upgrade. As part of the Liberal-National Coalition's 2018 Victorian state election campaign, a pledge was made to extend the Cranbourne line to the suburb of Clyde.
Cranbourne was once part of the South Gippsland line to Alberton. However, the line closure turned it into a disaster as the carpark gets very full and people are forced to park on streets far from the station. The real terminus of the line should really be Clyde for the Metro trains, not sure why this is the case as the main road is now a four lane freeway. With most of the line converted to a bike track, it is going to put more cars, buses and especially big trucks onto the overcrowded roads, leading to an increase risk of more accidents. Does the Victorian Government ever listen, I doubt it.
Passengers on Cranbourne train this morning heading to cranbourne station.. I just cannot believe why some people are so dishonest in this world. If something does not belong to you...dont pick it up ..if you do, hand it over to the nearest station so that passengers like you can claim their property back at the station. I have lost my book on Pearls. If you have picked it up...please return to Dandenong station immediately. May not be important to you but it is to me. Thank you Margaret
Lost my property on the train, they said since it was not phone or laptop, it won't be accepted and handed in. I asked what I should do instead, where my train was at that time, maybe I could get on to the train and picked it up myself. (since I called only couple of minutes after I realized the loss). The staff at Cranbourne train station legit hang up on me and said 'Now I have more urgent things to deal with'. Worst expereince ever. I would give a zero star if there were one.
Unfortunately Google doesn't have a zero star option, so I had to give it one star, It's by far one of the worst train lines in Melbourne, nearly weekly track faults between Cranbourne and Dandenong, frequently told the train is terminating at Dandenong even though its listed as a Cranbourne train, and made to wait for the next one while fending off criminals, junkies and the usual feral Dandenongite.
The station is okay, shelter and seating is nearly always at the entrance. The train service OTOH is terrible. It is nearly always delayed and half the time, direct trains end up terminating at Dandenong, forcing us to wait at Dandenong for an unspecified amount of time before a Cranbourne train arrives. Parking is relatively plentiful though. Overall, the station is okay, the line is terrible.
Customer service gave false information. We were informed that the train at the station was cancelled and wouldn't leave until 15.41. Moments later the train left with people on board. Now we have been informed that the next train is cancelled. We now have to wait an extra 40 minutes for no reason. No replacement bus and we have an appointment in the city. Unacceptable.
Cranbourne line showing good service not!! Planned works always on the this line , majority weekends. Then you get on the train 7.40am and there is vomit all through a carriage. Disgusting, Why on earth are we paying for there service ? You can see by google reviews they dont give a hoot, service is never running,
One of the worst train lines ever. Delays all the time. Sometimes an hour delay as well. How does someone reach work on time . All the there is track faults . Why d hell can't they put decent equipments. And to top it off train service comes every 25 mins only.. hats off to metro trains..way to go
The end of the line, for now as there's talk of extension to Clyde. My local station, where I can be certain of a seat inbound at least. Well served by linking bus services, and overseen by Protective Services at night. Nothing special to look at, but it's got what is needed - and a tiny library!
They frequently terminate trains in dandenong , force people returning home after a hard days work to wait on a cold platform for 15 minutes to catch the next cranbourne bound train. On the positive side, parking is excellent, have never had to struggle to find a spot even after 9 am.
2hrs an 38 mins to get home from cbd, 3 trains and a bus replacement from caulfield to Dandenong, no trains on weekend, because of works, what am i paying for, why not except you can not run the trains and hand it back to the government ☹️ …
The men on the counter never ever help to top up myki……. So rude and ask to use the self recharge….. its couple of times happened and really don’t know if they don’t wanna do the top up why they keep open the window! Disgusting
Be great if you guys could actually have some staff working at the station. Pretty hard when you need help with your myki and the person being paid to do exactly that is too busy for playing games on their phone.
Late trains and full parking lot. Only 1 train track, so trains can either leave or arrive one at time. Need to walk around the train line from the parking lot as the entrence is only on the opposit side.
The station is old, parking in far from the platforms, miss train quite often due to the distance of the parking. Come on, only one navel exist, ppl need to wait to touch on and off, time consuming!
Seems like there is no bins near by the bus stop so people just throw stuff on the ground. Please install bins this place is a mess
Not just this station in general but every time I want to go somewhere its always late bus replacements
A small station. Most of the time, the station is less crowded so it feels bit creepy around it.
Horribly designed station. Have to walk around a long way just to enter and leave.
Good shopping I do not feel aafe to walk around there are some strange people
Very bad staff. Can’t speak English and talking in rude way with passenger
Platforms aren't very accessible from the car park or the M420 bus stop
That train station need to be upgraded like Noble park, Springvale etc.
Decent station, lots of junkies around the bus stop area
Usually punctual. Just odd now and then cancellations
Rude staff and poorly designed station. Looks drab.
