"Dr"
"Dr Crawford is great but i always have to wait"
I woke up at 1:45 am on Saturday morning in excruciating pain from an abscessed tooth. By 4 am, unable to sit or lay down, I had researched every dentist within 20 miles listed as open Saturday morning. Based on the other Google reviews and the less than “Triple A” retail frontage, Dr. Crawford’s operation would NOT have been my first pick but that incorrect conclusion was rapidly changed. For starters, unlike any other dentist in DC, Crawford opened at 7 am. Not only that, when I called at 7:01, Dr Crawford actually answered his own phone. He said get here ASAP. Because I had to make breakfast for my kids, I couldn’t leave till just after 8. That gave me time to call five other offices that Google incorrectly listed as open on Saturday at 8 am. Not one of them had a human being answering the phone. “Leave a message, blah, blah, blah...” Or fill out some stupid on line form for an appointment next month. I didn’t know whether to commit suicide or homocide. The next good sign was the fact that the waiting room at Dr. Crawford’s office was packed with 12 people when I got there at 8:15. I guess the other patients didn’t bother with the Google Reviews. Lucky for them. After filling out the intake form, I was quickly taken into an office given the fact how obvious it was that I was in extreme pain. Dr. Crawford diagnosed me rapidly and correctly and quickly gave me a shot of Novocain to take the edge off. Thank God almighty! After 15 minutes of allowing the shot to work, he treated my tooth by drilling to alleviate the pressure. During the entire procedure he was polite, professional and very attentive making certain I was no longer in pain nor looking for pliers to rip out the offending molar. I swear I had a pair of channel locks in my hand at 7:00 am. I nearly made the terrible mistake of judging a book by its cover. This evening, I can’t recommend Dr. Crawford and Associates with any greater enthusiasm or endorsement. I’ll finally say, my super high dollar “Ideal” dentist in McLean, VA who recently completed thousands of dollars of implant surgery on me was unable to fit me in on Thursday even though I pleaded to come in when the toothache just started to throb. I walked out of Crawford’s office for $150! He’s my new dentist for life.
I had been a patient of Dr. Crawford for several years. I visited the Michigan Ave. and Benning Road offices. I've had several bad experiences at both locations. During one visit, I had my regular prophylaxis and became sick (high fever, body aches, etc.) within hours of my visit. (A foreign woman with a heavy accent performed the procedure, not Dr. Crawford.) It appeared that I had contracted an infection of some sort. I called Dr. Crawford that evening and all he did was apologize. On another visit, I was told I needed a deep cleaning, which I declined. I practice great dental hygiene and was never told this by any other dentist. Another visit involved Dr. Crawford performing "root canal therapy" (at least that's what was on my EOB.) I began experiencing pain at the root of this tooth within the last few months and when my new dentist x-rayed it, he said "Whoever did the procedure is clearly not an endodontist." Two of the three canals were not cleared, resulting in an infection at the base of the tooth. I paid almost $500 for this procedure! He never recommended a crown, which I now know is Standard Operating Procedure for root canals. The tooth has now abscessed, and I will have to have an extraction and implant, which will cost thousands more. The final straw was when I went to the office for a 4:00 appointment. After spending 45 minutes driving through DC traffic, I arrived at my appointment at about 3:55 and noticed Dr. Crawford hanging around his vehicle. Puzzled, I went over to him and asked him if he was leaving, given my 4:00 appointment. He told me he had to "take the money (he had a money bag in hand) to the bank before it close[d]." I asked him, "What about my appointment?" He responded with an apology and a direction to make another appointment with the receptionist. This was my last time laying eyes on this man, and I hope to never see him again. If I were you, I'd stay far, far away. (Another poster commented about the filthiness of the facilities. I wholeheartedly concur. It seems Crawford is only concerned about money and not his patients' health. Caveat Emptor!)

Dr. Crawford is awesome, very nice and professional. I use to go to his father, and he was the same way and he knew his business. I got a tooth extracted this year and I did not feel any pain He made sure I was very comfortable. When he was finished, he gave me some pain pills to take home with me. A couple of years I got braces and they did another good job. The receptionist was very nice, and so were the assistants. I would recommend Dr. Crawford's office to anyone. Rugena Bradley very satisfied with Dr. Crawford
Dr Crawford is great but i always have to wait. If I make an appointment for 1245 I shouldn’t be waiting well past 1 to receive service. This has been an on going issue for years and enough is enough. Also, I’ve had an on going issue with them NOT ANSWERING THEIR PHONE. If you’re busy you should still answer the phone. Place me on hold if you need to. I hate to say it but I think it’s best to find another dentist.
HORRIFIC dentist office, I started my dental braces plan with this company & they have did nothing but made my teeth worse. None of my teeth touch anymore. I have gap in the back teeth where food constantly get stuck, Lastly , my teeth are slanted on one side because the brackets were not place correctly. I strong recommend that you be seen here!
I've been seeing this office for over 5+ years. And every time there is always a rude receptionist. If you get through the rude receptionist, you will be waiting for a long time before being seen. Don't get me wrong, they do a great job on your mouth, but they need to hire better receptionist that know how to run theirs a little more better.
So unprofessional. How do you have a practice and supposed to have a patient chart in order. But can’t find the payment contract for an ortho- plan. So I guess I’ve been just making payments for my health. Then on top of that you didn’t even bill my insurance. Now two years later you’re telling me I still have a balance. NEGATIVE.
Every single time I come here I wait over an hour. I'm literally sitting here right now at 1:08pm when my appointment was at 12pm like seriously. This is RIDICULOUS!!! Had I not paid in full for all of my services I would not come here. No respect for patients time.
Unethical in their practice!!! They billed my insurance then charged me the full amount after my procedure. Once I received my EOB from my insurance company and informed Dr. Crawford's office of the over-charge, they still refused to give me reimbursement.
Unfortunately, my daughter needed to see a dentist. I called to possibly set up an appointment for her. OMG whoever is the receptionist is has no sense or professionalism or telephone skills. She yelled, over talked you and was just rude.
Horrible. You make an appointment and you always end up waiting another hour to be seen. The waiting room is not equipped for social distancing and they always overbook, causing you to WAIT to be seen. Inconsiderate of patients time.
He’s the best dentist in dc his work is good yes sometimes there is a wait but the office has gotta better dr.Crawford is a great person I have been with him for some times and referred some of my friends to him even my husband
I've been going to Dr. Crawford for about 12 years. He's dynamite. I have never considered going to another dentist. It's going to be a tough day when he retires.
Dr. Crawford is an excellent dentist who cares about his patients. He takes time to explain what's needed and options. The staff is professional and caring.
This is the slowest place in the world. Waited over a hour in a half to go to the back and I’m next in line. This is all the time.
