"After going to puchase a small window screen from Crown Ace Hardware, I'll never go to Home Depot or any other hardware store again! Their customer service was literally awesome; they fixed me up with a brand new bedroom window screen - to replace my damaged old screen - for only $50 and had it ready to pick-up within two days! The whole staff worked as a integrated, happy team and their knowledge of their products, along with their customer service expertise was their Forte! Mike took my original order and explained everything that they were going to do concerning the replacement of my screen, so I was able to learn something too! A few of their associates wore small headphones, in order to communicate a customer's wishes with eachother; the purpose was to save time, by not having to walk all over their store to find another representative"

After going to puchase a small window screen from Crown Ace Hardware, I'll never go to Home Depot or any other hardware store again! A few of their associates wore small headphones, in order to communicate a customer's wishes with eachother; the purpose was to save time, by not having to walk all over their store to find another representative...a novel idea! Crown Ace Hardware had an extremely large selection of high grade building and home repair products, that left nothing missing from one's home or business repair list. Their paint section had myriad different colours and any combiation of them could be mixed - along with their expert advice - in order to create your own custom wall/ house painting surfaces. This particular store was one of the most awesome hardware stores that I've ever seen and unless you actually knew their layout - through making many trips there - one needed a customer service associate to help you locate whatever you needed.. They also had a beautiful nursery that was replete with flowers, small trees, gardening tools and other things that one might need in order to create a lush garden or whatever one desired.
My husband and I were in a conversation as we walked into the store. The store greeter interrupted our conversation to welcome us to the store and I had to pause what I was saying to my husband while she talked over us. I probably gave her a not-very-nice look. We went to the area where the product that we needed was, but the item we were looking for was stacked over my husband 's head (he's 6' tall, and he couldn't see in the bin even when on his toes). I found a step ladder and brought it for him to use and, after a few minutes, a man walked over and said that they couldn't have him on a ladder in the store, because if he fell, they'd be liable. He asked if he could help us. My husband said yes and showed him what we were looking for. The man took one of the bins on the top shelf down, dropped it on the counter, then walked away. The girl from the front walked back and asked if we needed help. I told her that we'd asked the guy for help, he took the bin down and walked away, which wasn't much help. She then said that she'd already asked if we needed help when we walked in and had turned her down. I told her she had interrupted my conversation with my husband, to which she replied she had welcomed us to the store. At that point my husband put back everything and we left. Since when is it polite to interrupt a conversation simply because you're welcoming someone, and how much help is it to provide what might be the wrong size product, then walk away from your customer? I've done a fair amount of business at this Ace since I live in the neighborhood, but now I doubt I'll be back.
First Time, and It Was a Good Experience! Ordered online one day ahead for curbside/in store pick-up. I received emails confirming the order and another email later confirming pick-up was ready. Directions to the store and how to do pick-up were included. The Crown Ace Hardware store was easy to find (behind Jack in the Box). The was plenty of open parking, including ADA parking. Never having been in the store I decided to go in rather than do curbside pick-up. The store is clean and organized. Masks are required. I asked the first employee where I should go and received concise and accurate directions to the Service Desk (end of Aisle 18). After giving my name and order number to the person at the service desk I was presented with my item, signed for it, and exiting. The item I ordered was not immediately available at any of the larger chain store, and I needed it before it could be shipped by them, which prompted me to check at Ace Hardware. Fortunately for me Crown Ace Hardware had it available in stock when others didn't. My experience with Crown Ace Hardware was very good from start to finish. Fast, efficient, accurate! I plan on shopping there again and recommend them to others.
I come here for tools, parts, and supplies before going to Home Depot when doing small projects like installing a garbage disposal or building wood furniture. I’ve found better selection of things like screws, sand paper, safety glasses to wood stain than what the other giant chain stores have, often better prices too. But the staff here really make the difference. They seem to be a well coordinated team. If someone doesn’t know the answer, they always know someone else who will. I really like their knowledge of things. They’ve got a good thing going on here and Ace Hardware better recognize that because it would be a shame if they lost some of these employees to all the work competition out there in the greater San Diego area. So listen up Ace Hardware, invest in your people, pay them more, improve their benefits. Maybe all of those things are already good and improving but if not, then don’t be like all the other brick and mortars that are closing down. Invest in your people, keep the good ones there and people like me will keep coming back instead of going to Home Depot or Amazon.
So I was told over the phone yesterday that they do fix screens and they would be give me a call back that never happened it’s been a full 24 hours. I took the screen in today and they actually don’t fix screens the guy looked at it, not a close observation mind you and just came out told me he could show me the parts but they actually don’t fix it, That he would have to take the screen off in order to get the corner pieces in, well obviously fixing the mesh screen part is the easy part. Sidenote look people all screens as long as the frame is not bent can be fixed by a novice. Just a display of non-professionalism and non-commitment I mean the store is closing in 20 minutes and I don’t think that would be a factor, would it?And just to be clear Ace Hardware does not fix screens and they don’t know what they’re talking about in that area. Clairmont Ace Hardware.
I feel like I just returned from The Twilight Zone. David, in hardware had no idea what he was doing and seemed to be in brain-lock regarding a Hillman product. He did his best to avoid helping me, until I actually asked him if he worked here, then he did his best to get in the way. His manager, let's call her Ellen, did her best to help David with his sorting task, and finally asked me If I needed any help, I responded, "yes," with a list of requests, then she asked David if he had already helped me. (Really not a great fit for retail - news flash: your job is to help the CUSTOMER.) UFB. I finally said, "I'll find it myself." Off to the cashier. Very nice, but can not count, refund incorrect, and did not know the difference between a nut and a bolt. Cue: Theme for the Twilight Zone.
My husband and I are from Maryland and loved going to our Ace Hardware store. How fortunate were to discover Crown Ace this past February after moving to San Diego. The employees are so helpful and friendly, and we always find what we need. This past Halloween and Christmas we stocked up on decorations, which brought great enjoyment to our grandkids and neighbors. Most of the items were on sale, and Hope the cashier found a way we were not aware of to help us save even more. Each time we walk in she greets us with a big smile and a happy, positive attitude. It's a pleasure doing business here, and we recommend this particular Ace Hardware without hesitation.
I was shopping at this Ace. I asked a employee where the rest room was. I was told "we don't have a restroom for customers". I said, listen, ordinarily I wouldn't insist but it's a bit of an emergency. He adds "let me ask my manager" he uses his radio to call the mgr and came back immediately with "no". So, I quickly go to pay for my items where the cashier asks ME how much are these items? I say I don't know there's no price on them. She says "well, you'll have to go see how much they are". I replied, "no, you need to send an employee to figure it out. Can't believe this is the customer service. Won't be going back!
I rely so much on Google reviews yet rarely post them. This is an acceptable place to find last minute household items, but their customer service is so poor I would never shop here again unless I absolutely had to. Poor and unclear return policies, unlike Home Depot and Amazon which embody customer first - here I was treated with suspicion and distrust for simply returning something that was in it's original packaging and had a receipt. There's a reason why companies who put their customers first succeed and if Ace is to survive in the new economic marketplace they should learn a thing or two about retaining loyalty
This is a hardware store that supplies most of the "smaller" tools and items needed for projects around the house. They also carry an assortment of other things for garden, kitchen needs, outdoor cooking, even holiday supplies. They also are an official Yeti carrier. They also have more "specialty" type things, like canning supplies and bolga baskets and parafin wax. Each Ace is individually owned and often carries small locally produced items too. The downside is that their prices are higher than other, larger stores. Their garden area is fairly limited in live plants, but plentiful with tools.
This location is very large and has just about everything you can imagine. If they don't have it they will locate it for you or give you suggestions. Otherwise they will refer another place for parts which is what they did for me. This particular location sells seasonal items which is great. Nicely organized, clean & staff professional and friendly. Handicapped accessible inside and has handicapped parking spots in front. There is a large parking area that is shared with the theater and a few restaurants.
Can't speak highly enough about Ricky who works at this location- super helpful, helped me jimmy-rig my softball sign I made. I needed an open hook so it would hang on chain fence so he made me a 2-way hook (so I could flip both sides) out of a coat hanger I brought in and this was 20 mins before store was closing! Great service, so appreciated! Thanks again Ricky! Always friendly/helpful employees the few times I've ran in there. It sure beat going to Home Depot. I wish I could attach pic to show!
I recently learned that ACE hardware stores tend to each be locally and family operated, so we made a decision to visit them vs bigger home improvement stores. First time to an ACE hardware store. Was surprised by their inventory - had everything we were looking for, even multiple different choices of hummingbird feeders! What was outstanding was the staff - friendly, approached us when we were looking confused, but not overbearingly so. We signed up for their rewards program - will be back!
They had everything but employees didn't ask me if I needed help when I entered with my son. I'm not a big tool user nor is my knowledge of tools and parts very large so more assistance would've been great. Not sure where thread finder was located and I didn't know that was even a thing. It's a pretty huge ACE imo, but the ones in PB and Hillcrest might have more helpful staff. On the plus side, I got a Spider-man nightlight on sale in addition to pieces that were the wrong thread size.
Its a real hardware store, not a warehouse (i.e. you aren't going to find all of the tools and materials needed to build a whole house on hand), but the customer service is soooo much better than that other place. If you are fixing / building just about anything around the house they will have it and their prices will be competitive in most instances (i.e. need to wire in a new fixture, replace a shut off valve, repaint a room, or re-plant the garden/yard you will find what you need.)
I like to patronize small franchise stores if I can. I elected to go to Ace Hardware, I got there at 7:00 a.m. to find that they're not open until 8:00, construction workers Tradesmen all start work at 7:00 a.m. so I went to Home Depot to get what I needed. Next time I need something I will avoid Ace Hardware and go directly to a store that's up to speed with what's going on, and that would be Home Depot
It was an absolute pleasure to come and purchase my new Traeger from here. Dean and Claudia were a fantastic help to me, and provided great customer service. They walked me through everything and took the time to explain the different details of each grill. If you’re thinking about purchasing a grill or any goods for your home, I highly recommend coming here and to ask for either Dean or Claudia.
Great service at Will Call. I didn't realize I needed a cart and the staff at the Will Call got me one. He promptly helped me check out and it was the easiest experience I've had with picking up any goods. The girl at the check out also greeted me when I walked in. It was great to be seen and acknowledged. There were a few other customers in the store, but everyone was so relaxed and patient.
Always my first choice as it's close and the people there provide great customer service. I especially appreciate the large selection of fasteners (metric, stainless steel, grade 5 & 8, etc). They're not the size of Home Depot and can't carry everything but more often than not they have what I need. It's where you go when you need a single j-box to finish a project.
I always buy my Yeti products here! Team members are always super nice and helpful. Kevin the store manager is also a great guy! I try to support the local hardware store as much as I can. Sign up for their Ace member rewards program and receive a percentage back ($5 card) for a certain amount spent. Great coupons too! Just wish the coupons included Yeti purchases.
I bought a reasonable amount of materials here for repairs for my apartment. When I asked to use the restroom, I was told I cannot. I guess Ace Is Not the Place. I find it upsetting in such a rich area they don't allow you to use the facilities. Disappointing and a signal to me that they obviously don't want my business. I will never shop here again.
Another visit and found exactly what I was looking for. Just purchased some Fiskars pruners and an EGO Power String Trimmer. The employee explained the pros and cons of each string trimmer in their inventory and which one would be best for my use. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable. I love this store. MUCH BETTER than Home Depot!
Love this place! Has great selection of tools and supplies for home improvement and decorating projects. The staff is very helpful and friendly which is necessary because you can easily get lost in this place. Parking is plentiful and prices are on our with other hardware stores except this place has everything they do plus much more.
Friendly and helpful service. I was greeted by a representative when I entered the store, asked what I was looking for and escorted to the part. You won't get that kind of personal service at the big box stores. Plus Ace has a rewards program that you can participate in just by giving them your phone number. No spam calls or emails.
The people that work here are so wonderful and they help you with everything you need to get and don’t mind helping you even if you need more than one thing I was very happy with my experience at this store I wish there was a store more closer to my house but I’m extremely happy to drive up there and get all my needs taken care of
If I have a choice I go here rather than the big box home store on Balboa, because everything is so much faster and easier to get here. Parking is easy, the store workers are friendly. They don't carry lumber, bricks, sheet rock, etc., but for hardware, tools, cleaning supplies, electrical hardware, and so forth they are great.
Prices are higher here than at the Home Depot, but it's a small store and that's understandable if you understand how prices are lower when you can order in larger quantities. What's special about this store is that they carry items no one else has, such as hard to find battery sizes. Please are very helpful and pleasant.
I went to get an oil radiator heater and they were out of the advertised special. The staff were very helpful and found me a little better quality model that was not much more expensive with a discount coupon they kindly provided. Everyone at the store are friendly and they provide good value for money spent.
It's just another hardware store. Nothing super special about it. Ace hardware has always been the better for local hardware stores. I literally walked in, asked where ratchet downs were, bought them and walked out. Less than five minutes I was in there which was perfect as I was in a huge rush.
Not so much. The employees at this location do an about face and hide when you walk in the store. You have to ask the cashier to call someone to help you even though there are four or five guys wandering around trying to look busy. It's also not a full-service hardware store, retail sales only.
Another amazing customer service experience with Dee (Denalda)! Clear communication, helpful nature, persistence with finding a solution to our school garden needs and always professional. I appreciate that we have a neighborhood garden/hardware resource so close! Will definitely return!
Its s ok store sure its not as busyness home depot but they also dont nearly the same inventory either. And yes there is someone that help you find something to stream line your Job. What could that be that could help you with your invertory maybe a computer and a cheap piece of softwere
So helpful! Had a great experience buying paint today. I'm sorry I didn't catch the name of the gentleman helping me, but I did catch the name of the woman helping him - Sofie. She knew her stuff on paint. She had all the answers, and they got me set up with exactly what I needed.
Great hardware store with GREAT service. Ace often has the hardware I need when the big box stores don't. The people really are the crowning piece that makes this the place to shop. BTW: More of the dollars you spend here stay in San Diego to support YOU and our local economy.
This place is my go to even if I'm near a HD or Lowe's. I like that they are in shopping malls off the beaten HD paths. Place is clean, well stocked and the help is always friendly! You'll find things in here that you won't find at any other hardware store, Ace is The Place!
Well stocked with everything you need just don’t expect help unless you’re a regular. I ended up here twice and the staff seems pick and choice who they talk to, asked for help and was told its on the other side of the store you'll see it when you get there.
After failing to find the M2.5 nuts I needed at the place that starts with H and ends with Depot (seriously, their stock was in complete disarray), I went here and found exactly what I needed. Ace's stock was meticulously organized and the staff was helpful.
Great customer service Great line of products.. Today I got a rechargeable Milwaukee drill, hanging with 2 batteries, and I finished it off w a 15/16" socket !! Time to get to work thanks Ace Hardware !! You wear the Crown
There's a reason this is my favorite hardware store! I am Always asked if I need help with anything. Sure beats searching the store for something I don't know the name of. They are truly problem solvers and happy to help. Keep up the good work!
Cashier was a pain. She asked for my member card I said I needed one then proceeded to check next out without applying my purchase to it and said you can do it at home. I said I want my credit now to go towards the points she said oh well .
Always what you need without the hassle of Home Depot. Need a few pieces to fix that drain? In and out in 5 minutes. Need a couple odd machine screws no problem. Need some help? The guys here know what they are talking about.
Great pricing on garden edging half the price of home Depot . If they don't have something you are looking for in the store they will order for you and have it there to pick up 2 days later. …
This is the place. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff (side note, bummed they left Pt Loma) helped me get my new Traeger. Much better selection that Home Depot or Dixieline. Assembled and free dilivery.
The store is smaller than some of us like, its got a mom and pop feel, and it costs a bit more to buy there, but i like the convenience of it and somethimes im surprised by a treasure or a good deal.
My Local Hardware Store (Toy Store) Every Customer that enters here will be welcomed and if needed, someone will be assisting you every time. This Ace Hardware does offer excellent Customer Service.
Great location from the jobsite and quick shopping trips and good customer service and knowledgeable staff friendly and great selection of one of the kind hardware not found at Home Depot or Lowes!
Special ordered, delivered and assembled as promised. Was in stock at the warehouse as was advised by Dean. Even Weber website said out of stock. A rare experience that kept me shopping local
Ace Hardware is a bit on the higher priced side but they have everything for around the house fixes you need, and then some. Garden Center plants are not tended to well. Very nice people.
I really prefer this store compared to the big boxes. It is so nice to be able to have some one help you. At the big boxes it is always a quite a job to find someone to ask questions.
I've been coming here for many months to get home improvement and gardening supplies. The staff has always been helpful, never had issues with returns, and the hours are great.
Love our Crown Ace Hardware store. The employees are always helpful whether in need of a specific item or just browsing, they're very helpful. I always enjoy shopping there.
Centrally located in my area of San Diego and they have EVERYTHING!!! Very friendly and helpful staff. More personable than the big box stores. Great for smaller items.
Ace Hardware in Clermont is the best place to shop the people are friendly they had everything I need in the quantities I needed and the service was just outstanding
Great place to pick up your hardware stuff. Much quicker than the big box stores and the quality of products is higher. And knowledgeable help is at every corner.
The staff are very helpful and they always have what I'm looking for. Would never think of going to another store. Also like getting the frequent reward coupons.
They are conveniently located, friendly staff, have everything, dont need to wade through long aisles of huge hardware shops not knowing where anything is.
Very helpful staff, they carry a lot of items you can not find at bigger stores plus it's less confusing. HD and L can be overwhelming. Ace is the place!
Bought some home necessities and the staff was very knowledgeable and experienced. Very nice and had answers to all of my questions. Great service...
Ace has everything. Especially mischievous hardware. Prices are higher than home depot but they have that odd nut and bolt that's hard to find.
Every single employee in this store was so incredibly nice. Super personalities. All eager to help you find what you need. Great experience.
Fasting hardware experience. I always leave with a smile, more knowledge and not than what I came for! Grill seasoning, holiday gifts, etc
Love this Place!! A Fun Place to Visit and Great Helpful Staff, Love the Atmosphere! Ordered the Christmas Lights Necklace, Great Price!!
Excellent help in plumbing parts. And they have a huge selection that is well organized. Best place to go for fittings, valves, etc. .
Excellent customer service. Very expensive prices. No bike rack in sight, but they're cool with you bringing your bike in.
Well stocked store. Cheerful knowledgable sales staff. Store has the products advertised online as in stock. Good prices.
Always friendly and helpful! They manage always have what I need in a fraction the size of other big box hardware stores
I'm getting used to shopping here at the clairemont square location. Staff is always nice and quick to help. Thank you.
Doesn't even have individual hex wrenches for sale. The funky mom&pop store down the street from my parents have those.
Great local store. Nice helpful folks. Usually has what I need. Less crowded than Home Depot and reasonable prices.
Wonderful store and helpful staff. Anything I need they have and know what else you might need for your project.
I really like this store. The associates are all really nice and helpful. Always clean and pretty well stocked.
This is a nice alternative if ur not in the mood for a larger place good prices and excellent customer service.
Great location. Staff is always very helpful. I go out of my way and past another location to come to this one.
Ricky was the most amazing staff working so hard and made our search so much easier!! Super kind and courteous
Need a quality tool or less-than-common fastener, or a camping chair, or steak rub? Ace Hardware has it all.
Great customer service...always. usually never a line. I prefer going here over their nearest competitor.
One of the nicest and largest hardware stores I've been to. Good selection of everything and nice staff.
Got two copies of my car key for $11! Was Super happy because home depot was unable to make me a spare.
They have everything. Prices a teensy bit higher. But many things are best found here. (Think Traeger)
Went for spray paint and they had a lot of colors and level of shine. The staff were very attentive.
Find things home depot don't have or heard of! Love Ace hardware. Calm easy shopping friendly staff.
The staff here are always very helpful. They don't mind if you bring your dog in with you.
I only go here for the carmel candies only carmel candies and nails mainly carmel candies.
Forget Home Depot and Target, this store always seems to have what I need, when I need it.
Great local Hardware store. Yes, a little more than Home Depot cost wise, but convenient!
Received help and on my way. Easy Peasy wt my Ace Card and easy return if not a good fit.
Just found out about the nut, bolt and hardware selection. Evertone should know about it
Great collection of all your hardware needs and a small but nice plants collection too.
Nice store but customer service could be improved & be more friendly to customers
Very helpful and friendly - greet you at the door and take you to what you need!
Friendly staff and the store is always clean, I bought several succulents here.
Best place for Traeger and Weber BBQ's and accessories. Great customer service.
Good neighborhood hardware store. Got a terrific deal on a Weber gas BBQ here.
People we not helpful or nice one bit. Ace ain't the place. Find another Ace.
Usually have what you need better than standing in line at home depot …
Love this store for hardware and household needs. Gifts here and there too n
Friendly staff. A lot of stuff to buy. You can even get your keys made there
Great neighborhood hardware store. Staff is always willing and knowlegable.
Customer service was above and beyond. Everyone so nice and knowledgeable.
The staff makes this place great. Awesome selection with unexpected finds.
