I bought a pair of Specialized spin shoes. Within a year the fabric had torn on both shoes in the toebox area. It was covid by then and as a fitness instructor (gyms shut down - not teaching at any clubs right now but normally at both Lifetime and Goodlife) it didn't seem to be a huge necessity to have them replaced immediately. I finally went in a month ago to their location that was about to move (Oakville to Burlington). Without a doubt their staff seem generally knowledgeable and friendly. I purchased another pair of Specialized (different model) and the sales guy took my shoes and contacted Specialized. Promising they would review my case and get back to me. After two weeks - I emailed their info@ email address. A week later I followed up again to the info@. Today I have tried another email address and attempted to reach them on social. I get it. They are busy. But that is really really poor customer service. Additionally, the salesperson a month ago told me he had adjusted the placement of my clips and indicated where they were wasn't correct. the new position would give me more power (muscle recruitment) and help me avoid knee injuries due to improper alignment. Great in theory. I asked him why they were ever placed incorrectly in the first place as they were installed at that same store. He shrugged and said different people have different knowledge levels. Shouldn't all staff be trained on this in the end? If this could create a chronic injury why wouldn't steps be taken to ensure proper placement? Overall - disappointing. If they can't keep commitments and follow up with customers accordingly then they are either arrogant and don't care or overwhelmed. Both will get them in trouble over time.... UPDATE - I reached out to the owner per the message below. I thought his thoughtful response was promising. He responded and looped me in to another contact there. They said they would look into it and get back to me. That was three weeks ago. I've reached out twice in follow up since that time. Both times - no response. I find it really unfortunate that the original team member clearly didn't really care much about overall customer satisfaction and follow up. It's more unfortunate that the owner and other teammates - although seeming to want to help - additionally can't seem to follow through. I suspect they lost my original shoes in the move and/or threw them out immediately not caring to pursue this further. In short - it's a shame. But poor customer service eventually catches up to people in the end. I'll be sure when teaching to 70 people at one club (eventually when COVID allows) and teaching at multiple smaller locations - when asked where to buy shoes and accessories - I can't positively recommend Gears. How could I send people to a business that doesn't seem to care for it's clients all the way through the purchase. My purchase may have been small this time but that doesn't truly matter in the end.....
Cycling is a beautiful sport for all. Not conditional to color, ethnicity or shape. Why do you have to make it ugly. Was leaving home to cycle from Mississauga to Niagara. My air pump failed me. Gears Burlington was on my way. Asked the salesman to sell me an air pump to use on my bike, leave it at store then pick it up on the way back. He said that he cannot do that with a snobby smile. I asked if he expect me to carry a heavy pump to Niagara while biking and he said I cannot do anything to help you. I do understand that some shops may have certain policies. Keeping your merchandise at your premises cannot be one of them. In any case, even it was this was not the reason he refused to help me. If it was, he could have offered to check my tires pressure knowing that I’m cycling another 90 KM. This was not the first time I face condescending attitude at this store. Had a similar situation back in 2019 but the owner assured me that it was not intentional. Having to go through this hurtful experience again, it appears to be a store policy. I say to your policy, businesses that pick and choose for reasons other than wanting to serve customers do not last long. Been to cycling shops around the world. Never been treated like that.
Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say thank you to the team at Gears Bike shop in Burlington for an awesome experience. I phoned before I got there, Andrew was super friendly and knowledgeable. I went in to get some new road pedals and shoes and was greeted and helped by Sasha, he was super friendly and helpful and recommended the right products for my skill level and budget. Martin also gave me a hand making sure the items I picked out were the right fit for me and also gave me some great tips to improve my cycling experience. I also had the pedals install and my bike tuned by the service guys, who did a fantastic job and left my bike ready to go. Overall my experience was great, I found the entire staff to be super helpful, professional and friendly, the shop was very nice and well organized, and I definitely recommend it, if you are looking for some new cycling equipment, new gear or just for a tune up. Thank you guys for all the help, keep up the good work, and I will definitely see soon.
I bought a large Opus Orpheo 2 from Gears Mississauga. I am 6' tall but they sold me a bike which was designed for 5'7" +/- 2". I asked if it was the right size and the sales person said yes even though I should have been offered an xtra large. They didn't even help me adjust the seat or handle bars to the correct height. Nor did they remind me that I needed a bell. They just incorrectly installed a kick stand that my heel knocks every time I pedal. I emailed and called dozens of times but they are too busy to respond. The bike was scratched and so I doubt they will exchange it. The experience left me feeling like they just rushed me out the store which an incorrectly sized bike. Now they are too busy to answer or return my call. I DO NOT recommend this store.
I bought a mini pump from them that came with a plastic cage that goes on the same place as water bottle cages. I asked them if I could borrow a 5mm Allen and install it myself, so as to not waste their time for a 2min job, they said they don't lend out tools, which is understandable. So I asked if they could install it. They said they'd do it at a charge of $10. Which makes their labour rate in the realm of $300/hr. I would highly recommend you do your business elsewhere. But if you can screw and unscrew 2 bolts congratulations, apply for a job so you can make more than 99% of all other professions! P.S. The pump is great though!
Had another wonderful experience purchasing a bike from Gears!! Did our shopping at their location in Burlington. Ryan was very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to find the bike in the colour and size we were looking for!! The other staff was friendly, and offered their assistance when Ryan was needed to help other customers. The store was busy on that Saturday day. They did well to accommodate everyone.
Ryan was super knowledgeable and helpful explaining all the fine details of each road bike they had available. As someone who is somewhat new to the sport Ryan broke things down in a way that was easy to understand as it can be quite overwhelming when comparing different bikes, parts and brands for a beginner. Although I was not able to make a selection at the moment I appreciate all the help!
Excellent service yet again. We brought in our two road bikes for service before the spring rush. Gary was very thorough and quickly saw issues that would have given us problems for sure. He even fixed the carbon bottle cage that I had been using tape on for the past two years ;) You can trust Gary with your baby. The bikes are like new now - thanks guys!
Went in looking for a replacement pivot bolt. While waiting, a technician came to look, and basically took me it was not worth his time to even look for a bolt. He promptly turned his back and then proceeded to look at another customers bike. I understand it was not a high end bike that I brought in, but please treat all customers equally.
If you want to deal with the most smug, disrespectful, and disingenuous staff then come here. In my entire life I’ve never experienced worse customer service and overall human decency. So congrats for being #1 on that list! With all the kind people around, go and reward shops that actually treat their customers with dignity and respect.
Just bought my second Cube road bike from this shop. Sasha, the Sales Manager was very helpful, patient, and had a great attitude. The mechanics here are also very nice. Mike has always provided me with top quality service when it came to fixing my bike. Love dealing with these guys! Will definitely be coming back more often :)
This shop is very clean, nice staff, very nice bikes in stock with lots and lots of equipment and accessories to choose from. Purchased my Rocky Mountain Instinct from these guys and the buying process was a pleasure. Mechanics made sure the bike was all ready to go and set up to my liking. Great place!
Amazing service! We travelled a couple of hours to get there and arrived close to close. The staff stayed late (without any hint of frustration) to be sure my son was able to find the right bike for him. Great selection and very knowledgeable, super friendly staff. Highly recommend.
I am a big fan of gears. Just bought a new bike for my wife here and the service was outstanding. They took care of everything. The staff are really knowlegable and professional. No worries at all spending my money at gears. Just look at how happy she is with her new bike.
These guys are great. They saved me from potentially spending loads of money on replacing a fork or searching for repair options when it was not needed. Ira was super responsive on email and my problem was solved very quickly. Going back again for sure!
I've been going to Gears for more than 15 years now and I've always been super satisfied with the service. Bought my bike in their Port Credit store, then patronized their Oakville location for many years and now had my first visit to their
Gears will be our go to bike shop from now on. I had the most positive experience and the staff could not have been more kind, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. Not to mention the quality of product that they carry. The demand for bikes
I used to stay in Mississauga and this shop was very close to the place I stayed. I was really impressed to see the people who worked here and to see their passion towards biking. A year later, when I wanted to buy a bike, this shop was my
Purchased a specialized Sirrus from Gears Oakville last week and picked up the bike today. The staff was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful in the decision of choosing my new hybrid bike. Friendly service from all staff including
I purchased a very high-end road bike through Gears recently, as well as an upgraded drivetrain. I had to wait a little for the bike and all of the parts to arrive, which is par for the course these days. However, when the bike arrived
Went to purchase a new bike for hubby's bday not knowing anything about bikes. Colin was a great help and very patient in explaining options to help him choose something appropriate for recreational biking and within our budget. Would
Awesome customer service! Took my bike in to get a squeaky sound addressed and it turns out it was just one of the rear brake pads that was touching the rotor all the time. They didn't charge me anything to fix the bike.
Thanks to Gary and team for fixing a tricky issue with my son’s drivetrain. They came up with a solid solution to an inherent issue with the original bike components. …
Very nice bike shop with friendly staff. Ryan showed me multiple bike types and was through in explaining each one along with price ranges. Will certainly come back again!
While the store has lots of space, there is a very limited selection of women’s items or children. It took us a while to get some to help us.
Spend 200 dollars for brand new front rim, tube and tire. 2 months later the tire leaks air everyday and has to be refilled.
Got my 10 year old Lefty fork rebuilt at this location. Mike did a stellar job and everyone there was cool. Thanks!
I went there searching for a missing part in my daughter’s bike. The guy helped me very efficiently in a minute.
Had my first minor service done with the team. Problems fixed! Great service from the service and sales team!
Fast and friendly service. They are passionate about bikes. They are my go to place for my annual tune up.
