5 stars to the consistently friendly staff and splendid store outfitting. 0 for the GameStop corporation. Poor business plan with a short term vision it seems. I am looking forward to the next big video game vendor to rise to prominence in Ontario soon enough. Being in a hurry to get rid of old games lingering around the house and/or being from an older generation where one may simply not know how to purchase elsewhere should be only reasons one resorts to this option… The prices do not match let alone lead the industry. You can buy the same game right from home and have it install immediately to console for less $. You can also get better trade-in value quite literally anywhere else. It is a convenience fee, per se — but still not equatable to the extra 5 mins you might spend on facebook marketplace, I would argue (or any other video game store really). Just look at any forum such as Reddit or related articles for more on this. It rubbed me the wrong way that despite about 50 trade-ins, 100+ game purchases, consoles, accessories and more (as a teenager who didn’t know better), and still 1-2 visits a year for the last decade or so since my teens, my platinum card had all its points wiped for inactivity. That is a bit harsh I think, and pushes a customer like me away. They don’t even have an app either. Essentially making it as difficult as they can to use the rewards… A sustainable business in this industry would lead or at least match prices sector-wide, as well as reward loyalty. This is the sort of short-sighted business plan I mentioned prior. And the reason for which i look forward to the next big cat in town to take the reins by doing better. (No, this isnt just since Covid — prices have always been at a premium).
I went in 2 weeks ago, pre ordered a game and payed in full, I also asked when I payed would I need to pay anything extra o was told no just show my receipt to pick up the game. I went today to pick up the game went to the cash where there were 2 people. One person was helping a customer and the other cashier was just standing there. She asked what I was there for told her to pick up a game then she said the other cashier will help me. Waited 10 min as she talked to her co worker making small talk then asked again what I needed was just there to pick up the game I already bought. Asked if I wanted coverage and I said no and then said I need to pay more since the game was more (I payed more than going to Best Buy or buying online). I told her I already bought the game 2 weeks ago (had receipt already) she said I didn’t pay the full amount (on the receipt I did). Annoyed I had to pay a small amount when I asked originally that it was already payed in full as well having to wait 10 min as she talked to her co worker who would help me. Won’t come here again.
I've only been here twice since it became EB X. The first time was unfortunate timing as their Boxing Week sale was still going on. This resulted in waiting in a long line with only 3 cashes. They have room for at least twice that, which would have been more ideal when doing a week of big mark downs. Although I got a game for around $40 when the original price was $79.99 so that part was great. The second time has nothing to really comment on other than it was in and out with a normal level of service you would expect anywhere. If you've never been here, be warned that the base price of most new releases is $79.99 even after the game has been out for several months. With tax that brings you to $90.39 and they will still ask if you want a $3 warranty. The warranty in itself perhaps isn't a bad price but when you're already paying nearly $100 you'd likely be unwilling to spend more.
Fine location and fair selection of games (usually looking for Switch or PS4 games).. but like most EB Games locations, if you're looking for a "New" game being the last one the shelf, you are basically going to get a used copy for the price of a new (unwrapped, opened and butchered with stickers) with a disc taken out of a drawer protected by a cheap disc paper sleeve. They then say that it's "new because it has never been played" but I suppose they don't realize that optical drives generally don't damage the discs at all ; putting discs in cheap sleeves and butchering cases with stickers does make them feel like used copies though. Next time I'll support a local game shop or heck, even order on Amazon or Walmart at that point. Or better ; getting a used copy of a game in the basically the same condition as what's considered "New" by EB Games/EBX
Bought a used controller had 30 days to "replace or return" not being told that I thought it was refund. 5 days later I come by to return the device as it was a broken and defective. The manager kept making excuses saying that I used it and that some sticker isnworen off when it was already been like that from the same day purchased. I had to exchange the item with thing i didn't want or need. I give a two star only cause he was willing for a 10% on anything thats only used. Still unbelievable with the way I was trapped and treated. Never recommending this place to anyone. Few years and this dump will be over ridden by a better more suitable company for their policies that ruin the customers experiences.
During the time of switch for pre order they were extremely busy but I was amazed how fast and efficient they were with getting in my switch pre order the staff here are very knowledgeable and have the patience to help, I was able to order my games and they help with the accessories that I would need and don'ts and let me know about the cool stuff like the breath of the wild art book and walkthru, this is the best eb games I have been to and from here on out will only get my games here. I was at the Nintendo switch launch day and I must say the staff was fantastic and well organized I was 30th in line and I was in and out in 40 min the staff had lots of energy. Thank you
The staff here is really nice, I've always had fun conversations with them while checking out. The selection is pretty great (obviously it's mostly collectibles, toys, and other geeky stuff, but there's some stuff there I've never found anywhere else). Also I wanted to say if anyone ever feels like giving a low rating because they were insulted that the staff tends to follow/hover around you a lot, please remember this is a store that is directly beside the door onto Rideau Street, and I can't imagine the amount of shoplifting and hassles they deal with, so please don't take it personally. Keep up the good work everyone!
Rideau centre location is the best for product knowledge, friendly staff and care about you the customer. Avoid at all costs the train yards location as staff rude and mislead customer. I went to order a replacement under the exchange program and took info but never called me on it. It tooks months before i called and asked about elite controller they had one but it was for sale and nit fir exchanging product. He laughed at me when i said spent over 1200. He said so and hung up phone. I would never go there again. Rideau centre never had issues and they honor their products and customers.
The staff are always very helpful here. Some a bilingual, some are not, but they've always had at least one person working who speaks French when I have been in. Even the manager helped me make the absolute most of my trade-ins one day spending about 15 minutes adding up and reworking my trade values towards pre-releases. Even on release days when one would expect it to be super busy, they are somehow able to keep the lines down to about a maximum 40 minute wait, and are super keen to help you out while in line so you don't spend forever finding what you want and THEN waiting in line.
Yes, the employees sometimes have aggressive sales tactics, but their customer service is phenomenal. Last night I bought a used game for PS4, without the scratch warranty. The disc wouldn't install in my system no matter what I tried; I also lost the receipt. I called this morning not expecting much, but they confidently told me I could exchange it at any location for free. No warranty needed, no receipt (just call the Rideau store to verify). I was very impressed and it made my day! Thank you for helping me scare the pants off myself through my newly working copy of RE7 on PSVR :)
Some of the staff are very friendly and helpful, but one guy in particular ruined my whole experience with them, he gave me attitude, accusing me of wanting to buy a video game for someone underage because ‘I didn’t seem like the type to play that game’ and then when he asked for a photo ID which I provided, he said I needed to bring my passport, which I don’t feel comfortable walking around downtown Ottawa with. If your gonna give me this much trouble for buying a game that is 17+ because I don’t look 20 years old, I’m just gonna order it online or go over to the Quebec side.
The manager of this store is the rudest person you could possible meet. My 17 yr old daughter brought in some games to see if they would take them and he talked to her like she was 5 yrs old in a very patronizing tone. Then proceeded to stare at them while they shopped. He acted like he was superior in every way to the customers as well as the other employees he was talking to. Just not a very nice guy. He made our shopping experience unpleasant and we will not be shopping at this EB games in the future. We are a family of gamers and will take our business anywhere but there.
I dont know if this is an off day for the staff or what. Normally when I'm in the market I love coming here. I always feel welcome, but today uff... again I don't know what it was (new staff on the busiest days of the year, off day or what) but the way the man talked to me was rude. I still love this place as its my go to when I need an escape but after today's interaction. May have to look for another place to get my games. If it was the new staff annoying you. Maybe again not hire people an train them when it's busy as F.
Good selection and prices on used games. Smoother transactions at other EB/Gamestop locations as this one requires email receipt, multiple pieces of government ID plus a bank card with your name on it in order to pick up online orders. Some banks do not put names on cards anymore thus some customers cannot meet this requirement (drivers license and new style health card and email receipt and credit card used to pay for transaction were not enough!!). Ended up ordering from EB/Gamestop at Trainyards with no hassle.
This store has a great selection of merchandise, but my experience with the employees is the same as almost all the other EB Games stores I've been to. The employees have a non-helpful, upset attitude when requested to assist and always push the extended warranties and EDGE cards way too much, even after I've denied multiple times. I used to love EB Games but after seeing the employees and their attitude, I will avoid these stores when I can and go elsewhere.
I haven't been into an EB store for a very long time because I was fed up with constantly trying to be upsold or pushed into buying something I didn't want. A few weeks ago I was into this new EBX location at Rideau Centre and was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was, and while I know upselling is something they need to try to do, I wasn't pestered over and over. I was back in a week later for a console trade-in and had a great experience.
Don’t really recommend going to this store. The sales people tend to be way to pushy and borderline harass you to purchase biogenic products, even when you’ve told them several times you’re only interested in official controllers. When a customer asks if you have a product in stock and you’re aware that you do, don’t spend 10 minutes trying to sell them something else, especially when they tell you they’re not interested.
Love EB Games and this new location of EBX in the Rideau Center in the Downtown Core of Ottawa is really nice. I'm not sure if it's actually larger than the old location across the hall but it certainly feels larger. It's one of the only things I will go to Rideau for as I really don't like Rideau Centre much anymore. Great selection and nice staff make it worth a trip if you need games or silly pop culture toys or gifts.
This place sells everything from videogames , toys , plushies , Funko pops and lots more . The service is great . And the staff are friendly to get along with. I went there to pickup an order for a bendy with wrench and got it today . It took 3 days for it to come in I'm so happy. Atmosphere is great too. This place should keep up the great work . Staff 5/5 Service 5/5 Atmosphere 5/5 Price $-$$/$$$
Many thanks to William at the Rideau location. A very enthusiastic & knowledgeable individual! giving him this review, because as he was helping me with my 200$ purchase his boss approached him and said "get back to your customer." If she had been paying attention I was greeted & helped by William all the way through my visit. I was his customer! Keep up the great work William! My son loves the gifts.
My roommate was denied purchase of a game because she looked "too young". They told her they needed to card her but she does not carry a driver's licence on her. They told her they do this to everyone. I go in to buy thr same exact game and I was not asked for ID or anything despite looking the same age as her. Clearly their so called policies have a lot of bias.
Had an amazing experience here today they got a new shipment of Splatoon 3 amiibos was so happy they had them. The staff is super friendly and the owner was nice and helpful . I really enjoyed looking around after our purchase, I found a lot of cool super Mario shirts ,cool Christmas Pokémon plushies and I loved the prices .will definitely be going back soon.
I felt like my presence in the store was annoying the staff. The employees can be pretty passive aggressive when asking questions as well. When looking at something behind a locked case, within 30 seconds I was told I needed to buy it now or never, as they wanted to put the key away. I wasn’t even given time to properly browse, so I left.
Been there a couple times and they often don't have the games I am looking for, and I'm not looking for anything rare or uncommon. There is a lot of merch, but because of the big store it doesn't feel overwhelming. Staff are not the warmest, but they can look overwhelmed with the traffic in the store so I don't blame them.
Girl at the store was friendly and helpful but the big white guy at cash with glasses who I’m assuming was a supervisor or manager might have one of the worst customer service skills I’ve ever seen. Speaking to coworkers in a berating tone, speaking to customers the same way. Rude, unprofessional, among other things.
I honestly hate coming here, staff are extremely pushy and for such a big EB Games their selection is surprising poor (for example I couldn't find Tekken for the life of me or NHL 19 despite it only being 8 months old at the time). If there were any other competitors in the nearby area I would go there everytime.
Worse customer service. And they are making up there own policy. Casey the cashier was super rude. They are literally going to make you wait at the cash just to ring you in. Not a good experience for me. And assistant store manager alex customer service is awful cant even show me a policy rules of gamestop.!!
This is a different generation of electronic boutique. They have more toys, board games and other pop culture items than video games. It's a big change but they are changing with the times. They have some interesting sales every so often. Great location by the bus station. It is also nicely organized
Best EB in Ottawa, absolutely amazing staff, Ramsey is the greatest, such a great collection of games and anything to do with games. I highly recommend this spot over other EB's in Ottawa, I've been to most if not all the other spots and this is definitely my favourite.
My friend found what she was looking for. I didn't buy anything but there seems to be a lot of cool merch and random branded products. They also have next gen consoles for sale so that's cool. Staff was friendly, store was clean. Not much else to say about it.
Yay Gamestops been my favorite gamestore since microplay . I go here most every week to buy some games. Staff are well educated on the items they sell And very friendly with customers. Funko pops in a lot of different rarity Game great deals on used games.
It's probably a little under-staffed for how busy they get sometimes but the employees are all pretty friendly. They run a tight enough ship on release days where the lineup snakes halfway through the mall, which makes them a good place to pre-order.
The staff are friendly, the store is clean, and product selection is good. I'm not big on EB, as their resell practice is downright robbery that damages the video game industry. But the staff at this location have always been nice and friendly
One of the BEST locations in Ottawa. They have a great selection and awesome staff. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help or recommend a game. I’ve been coming here for years and anytime I’m downtown I stop by to see
This is a GAMESTOP store. Terrible experience. On Dec. 27th, I went in to exchange Zelda's Breath of the Wild (Christmas gift) for Link's Awakening. They gave me a new/sealed English-Spanish version saying they weren't really allowed to
This is a place where I would enter every time with boyfriend whenever we go to mall. He wouldn’t miss it. Haha. He loves the offers there. And I think they do preordering for zero cost. I did preorder god of war at zero cost.
The costumer service was terrible. The manager was yelling at me and other customers. They would not allow me to buy a game because I was not 17 even though I turn 17 this weekend. Would not recommend this place.
Great experience. Albeit the lack of help in store when it gets busy, staff at the cash is helpful and willing to help, knowledgeable and do not hesitate to advise you on different things.
The manger at this location should be given an award to dedication to the job. After speaking to him briefly, I wanted to give him all my money. The store was also noticeably clean.
I was greeted as I entered the store even though it was busy. The manager found the game I wanted right away. Processed my trades extremely fast. Friendly and quick service.
I visit this store at least once a week. Got to know some of the staff that work there. And you can tell they love there jobs. Always there to help. The new digs look great.
Loved it. Had everything we were looking for. Excited to get playing my new Nintento Switch. The cashier Catherine at the Rideau store location was awesome at giving me all
Employees were very helpful. I was interested in the Pokeball Plus and they gave me lots of info on how to use it, and its advantages over the PokePlus wristband.
Nice, friendly and welcoming! Nice store, lots of stuff to shop for. Almost all the time in stock of much demanded items. Friendly and helpful staff, clean store.
Great place to look for your video games, if you have a lot of time and patience tou can find gold in the used games section. Toys are awesome as well.
Big store. The gentleman at the front of the store today was friendly and helpful. Very well organized of merchandise and lots of room to move around.
Casey is a very helpful employee with a laugh out loud personality. I just wish he would give me the promo card when I was only 2 cents short of it.
The people working here are super friendly helpful as well as an amazing selection of new and old games, definitely check it out :)
Went there with my daughter. It was mainly for her to do some shopping. I didn't realize they sold puzzles there. Who knew ❓️❓️
Helpful, patient staff, who know their games, and their customers. Great place for my kid to practice his shopping skills.
Always great service! The staff is super kind, helpful and social so its always a great shopping experience.
Great selection of products and a lot of things I never expected I needed. Also friendly staff are amazing!
Decent selection of video and tabletop games, as well as merch for both. Friendly staff, not too pushy.
The staff are super helpful. I had fun shopping for collectables at the Rideau Centre location.
Fairly decent selection. Typical gamestop staff vibes, similar to canada computer staff vibes.
Like a good old record store, where you can find rare and old games. Lots of gift ideas!!
False advertising, sell use, open box and damage product like new on their web site.
Unprofessional and cannot provide any help, talk to you as if you are an idiot
Working on completing my BoneBreaker Baf, picked up Maggott and Sabertooth.
Well that's a good place to shop for and the atmosphere was great
Knowledgeable staff, competitive prices. No complaints here.
I love this store, friendly staff and lots of cool stuff ;)
Staff very knowledgeable and friendly lots of cool stuff.
Thanks for helping me find the perfect Christmas gifts
Great customer service. Friendly environment!
Staff is always very friendly and attentive.
For all your gaming needs
Love going there.
