Google maps got it wrong. They're open from 7to7. So they were closing when I got there. Even so the display cases were filled with a vast array of delicious items. I got the rest of the lamb stew for a mere $6. It turned out to be plenty with big chunks of lamb, carrots and potatoes swimming in a delicious gravy. In case that wasn't enough (it was) I also got a roasted chicken breast quarter for only $3.50. While it was quite good it couldn't compete with the lamb stew. Although, with the addition of a little salt, it would have been Amazing! But that's more the fault of my blood pressure than of the cooking. I was just going to eat a little since I bought it (and I was full of stew) but I ended up wolfing down every bite. And just to prove that these guys are as friendly as they are great cooks they surprised me with a muffin for tomorrow's breakfast at no cost. Taking one last look as I went out the door I almost stopped to buy some of the pastries. But, again, they were trying to close. Next time, I promised myself, because I will definitely be back.

This place is amazing. We stopped by on a whim after an errand, and are so happy we did! After sampling the curry chicken, we decided to go with the beef burgundy and brown rice. One order was plenty for two people, and the hosts were gracious enough to give us extra challah bread! We loved the spinach and mushroom quiche, too. My husband has a sweet tooth, and enjoyed the cinnamon jam rolls for dessert. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in La Jolla!

Stopped in for a snack. The place was adorable and so much variety. Seemed like a family run place or at least they treated each other that way. The line was cramped and very long due to the design of the store but somehow they manage to keep the line moving really well weaving in and out of each other finding ways to help customers, organized chaos so to speak. I got a apple streusel and it was amazing. my daughter got a cranberry muffin and her and I both tried it and it didn't have much flavor but the texture and moisture were good. I would go back but maybe not the cranberry muffin. Sorry Girard

So good, went there twice while visiting the area. Everything we had was good. Kids loved the spaghetti in meat sauce. Quiches are all exceptionally good, tried all but one (ask about the cowboy quiche). Expect a creamier consistency. Pot pie and shepherds pie were hits with adults and kids. Eggplant was OK. Broccoli turkey also OK. Cookies and pastries were quite good. Fruit tart was OK. Recommend getting there at least by 5 because hours don't match online (we were told they closed at 5:30). Nice area to sit out front if you can snag a table.

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING THROUGH THESE PEOPLE!!! My aunt ordered my wedding cake through them and when she went to pick it up it was a tiny cake, nothing like what she ordered. The guy was absolutely heartless and said “oh well! There’s nothing we can do about it now.” Thank goodness for Vons in La Jolla for saving the day and my aunt decorating this beautiful cake for us!!! Girard Gourmet is by far the worst customer service. I’ve worked in the customer service industry for the past 10 years and you guys truly disgust me.

I can’t believe I’ve never written a review for girard gourmet. It’s such a special and important staple in the community. Everything you order you will love, I especially love the pasta salad, coleslaw, and the beet salad All the breads and crossiants are especially Great I’m so grateful for them and their amazing service! I feel like I can really count on them for quality and consistency. Thank you so much Girard Gourmet team

It's very hard to find a cafe where the soup and sandwich are not too salty, but this place seasoned everything just right. Loved my sandwich and vegetarian soup. It was around Thanksgiving and I saw all these people were buying pies. I'm not a pie person, but my husband wanted to try it, so we bought a mini pumpkin pie and brought it back home on our flight. When we tried it, we immediately regretted not having bought a bigger pie!! It was super delicious, and I still dream of that pie.

  • Adit Damodaran

It closes at 6PM most days as a heads up, not 8PM as is listed on Google. I got one of the “hot specialty plates”, but my food had to be reheated in the microwave and didn’t taste good at all—certainly not worth the $13 it cost. I’m not sure how this place has 4.6 stars, but their breakfast and pastry options might be better than the evening lunch/dinner menu. I did give two stars because the staff was courteous and friendly, and offered us a free pastry since it was about closing time.

One of the best if not the best (my favorite) sandwich shop and bakery in all of San Diego county. Located in the heart of La Jolla Village, Girard Gourmet has such a wide variety of sandwiches, meals and treats to eat in or to go. Honestly, the best chicken salad I have had on the west coast. Friendly workers and ownership, always a delight having lunch there or to go and supporting small business!

One of my favorite places to go to! The owners are so incredibly sweet, and the food is always delicious. Definitely a local favorite. If you are from out of town you have to try their cookies! I highly recommend everyone try them if you are stopping by, they are one of a kind and fabulous! All of their food is delicious, but I enjoy their vegetable sandwich and their vegetarian lasagna. Anyone who comes to La Jolla and passes this place up is seriously missing out

I’ve been coming here for years. It is a La Jolla staple and a solid bakery compared to all the new hipster joints popping up downtown. I’d stick with the baked goods, breads, and quiche. Kids love the creative cookies in the window. Always a decent sandwich. I’d give it 5 stars but the chicken pot pie wasn’t awesome last time.

Can't wait for this La Jolla Village treasure to reopen for dine in service. I understand you can still get take out. Great variety of delicious deli and dessert items and a cool vibe to help break up your busy work day. They simply know how rushed lunch time can be and they make every effort to get you served quickly and the staff is always determined to keep you happy with your food and service.

Was going to get cookies until someone shared a picture of a Trump endictment cookie these clowns make. They can do their political baking without me. What a disgusting business. I wish there was a zero or negative rating for places like this one.

I LOVE this place. Have been going here for 15 years. It’s a very “mom & pop” type place. Old school; no frills- just genuinely good sandwiches, soups, and cookies. I always look forward to having a Cheese Sandwich (with lemon pepper) from Girard Gourmet when I’m in La Jolla!! I also recommend the little heart shaped cookies with the raspberry jam. SO GOOD.

  • Kristoffer Comiskey Olsen

Inexpensive and "home feel" place, with good but not high end dinners, and delicious cakes! Super friendly staff. We ordered a cake and after trying a new juice they had just begun making and not being especially fond of it (it wasn't bad by all means), they offered us the cake free of charge! Very pleased and a nice place to stop by for some relaxed meals.

Visited this week from Texas. The Belgian pastries were phenomenal!!! They also have hot food and sandwiches. I asked to sample the lamb stew and it was the most savory & tender stew I've ever had. I'll be back!!!

I love it love it love!!!!!!!!! This place needs 10 stars!!! Best sandwiches ever! If you want true old school La Jolla Village vibes with exquisite deli and pastry options this is your place. Honestly if I could eat here everyday I would. There's a line out the door for a reason and it is so worth the wait. I can't wait to go back.

  • Susan G

Looks amazing and see the pastries for the windows call my attention how yummy they can be but unfortunately the 2 I got was a little hard or looks like was not fresh maybe for a day before. I can sense the flavors and I am a 100% if it is fresh is very delicious. I just tried pastries but i saw they have yummy food and salads.

  • Cara Fox

We were there earlier today. The gentleman behind the counter was so wonderful and amazing! He let my daughter and I try a pig cookie it was delicious. She bought strawberry rhubarb pie and I purchased corn beef and cabbage soup. I cannot wait to return and Customer Service was fabulous! Thank you - cannot wait to return!

Great little place that's a bakery and hot deli in one. Awesome baked goods and everything we had, tasted incredible. Our server was a young lady who seemed inexperienced but the food more than made up for it. Pricing for food items was reasonable consider it's La Jolla. Well worth making a special trip just to eat here.

  • Shane Davis

This place was recommended by a banker at us bank and boy am I glad I asked. This place was incredible. The roast beef was great the tomatoes were as good as my grandmas off her vine. They were awesome. My wife had the organic salad and I have no bought the ingredients to try and replicate. Highly highly recommend

  • Claire Howell

We stumbled upon Girard Gourmet while walking to our planned lunch spot- it looked so good that we canceled our original lunch plans to eat here. It was INCREDIBLE! Staff were so friendly and their salmon & goat cheese quiche, cowboy cookie, and spinach & cheese croissant were out of this world. Highly recommend!

  • Malinee Muditajaya

This is the type of establishment every quaint town should have. The food is authentic, unpretentious, and simple. Great place for a quick fix of sandwiches, home cooked meals , and cookies! Their cookies are not overwhelmingly sweet. You can tell they are doing it the right way! The owner is friendly as well.

  • Gretchen Potter

Everything here is absolutely excellent!! Freshly made and friendly service. Their croissants are the absolute best!!! Quiche was fantastic. Curry chicken salad was also fantastic as always. Glazed cookies are so good and come in lots of fun shapes. LOVE this place!! You can’t go wrong with whatever you order.

  • Carolyn Freeman

This is a small business I keep supporting because I like the people and like the food. European flare. Good soup, salad, and sandwich selection, great pastries including a yummy homemade pot pie. Other main dishes that look great but haven't tried due to food allergies. Worth checking out if in La Jolla!

  • Sam Marks

The egg breakfast sandwich had a slice of rubbery, processed cheese, the croissant was more doughy and heavy, and the "roasted" vegetables were soggy and flavorless. Maybe it was because we had the food to-go vs more fresh, but overall a lackluster food experience. Not fantastic customer service, either.

  • Nishant Sahoo

Food is good, but make sure you have the right expectations. All hot “speciality” dishes will be microwaved. I watched eggs being made with the steamer on the espresso maker. Staff is very friendly and portion sizes are large.

Love this place! Never actually dined in, but I get food to go frequently as I work nearby. They have so many delicious soup options that change daily, their sandwiches are huge, and they have an enormous options of pre-cooked hot food items that are great for takeout. Prices are very reasonable too!

Absolutely love this little bakery and lunch spot! They are the top place to get a healthy, quick lunch in La Jolla Village. Great sandwiches, soups, pasta, salads and more. Love the staff here too. Pedro and Nick are the best!! Make sure to say hi to them. Recommend visiting this place!!

Girard’s is a true classic spot. I don’t like going to La Jolla, but I will if it includes lunch from here. Everything behind the glass is good including there awesome cookies. The sandwiches are always fresh and made with care. The soups are fantastic. Service is great. More

  • Mai Wah Cheung

I don’t know it this is really a Belgium restaurant or not. But the food is really good and very reasonable. We have tuna salad, chicken, and a few pies (great pies). Many people order takeout, so there are plenty of seats for those who want to sit down at the restaurant.

  • Natalie Spiess

Delicious food, great service, and the cutest cookies! And it’s an affordable lunch too, if you take advantage of their 1/2 sandwich and a cup of soup option (which is plenty of food). The mango gazpacho is incredible. Highly recommend paying a visit to Girard Gourmet!

  • Elizabeth Hessler

I’ve never found such great counter service before. I had the girard special sandwich and it was huge and delicious. Go in take a moment to really view the wide selection, and while you do that notice how many regulars come and go! It’s really a treat the whole time!
