My husband and I had a lovely evening here the other night. Gold Bar dont have a drinks menu. Initially phased by a this as I thought I'd have to do too much thinking (we'd had a big day) but Lachlan, our very talented bartender, was an expert. He guided us through the attributes of some spirits and together we came up with a drink. I really enjoyed this creative, discursive process and Lachlan's skills were very much at the fore. All up we enjoyed 3 lovely drinks each highlighting the major attributes of the ingredients. ...and it came with good conversation. This place takes the art and craft bar practice very seriously. If you value this and want good quality ingredients and knowledgeable and friendly service, drink here with Dylan and his colleagues.

Fabulous off menu cocktail spot in the harbour area. They know just the cocktail to make for you based on the taste you describe. Inside the bar is super cosy and intimate, and there's more seating in the historic (also inside and also cosy) courtyard which is an amazing space to have a drink. The staff were super friendly and happy to chat about the history of the building and various other things. Also it's super close to the airport bus stop and I highly recommend getting 3 cocktails in before your flight.

The owner really knows his stuff - a cocktail master at work. No showboating - just fast, efficient, masterful making and a deep knowledge of the craft. Gin is clearly his passion, but when I requested a Brandy Alexander he immediately made a perfect example incorporating rich Tasmanian cream, a creme de cacao brand I’d not seen before, and a garnish of nutmeg that had clearly been recently crushed in a mortar and pestle by hand. It was the best Brandy Alexander I’ve ever had.

You cannot fault this hidden gem. We were lucky enough to have been referred to the Gold Bar when at another restaurant for dinner (thank you)! We've travelled to many places and love a great 'speakeasy' style bar. This place was phenomenal. The cocktails were amazing and executed very well. The owner/bartender was awesome, very friendly and easily made some cocktail challenges our group threw at him (including the gin fizz). Great vibe and music, will definitely be back.

WOW!! most lovely and inviting little bar I have been to! Was a Thursday night, very quiet, just us with some passing through groups.Was incredibly impressed with the knowledge our bartender had, he whipped up some incredible cocktails off the top of his head based in a few questions he asked me and my sister. Definitely recommend this place if in the CBD and after something more then the generic pub cocktail. Will be coming back :)

How have I not reviewed this bar yet! Easily the best cocktail and whisky bar in Hobart. Always seems to have the answer to my every mood: sweet, sour or otherwise. A must attend if visiting Hobart town, and an absolute must appearance on every local's regular wind-up/wind-down weekly drinking haunt. Would rate 10 out of 5 if I could. Knowledge of each ingredient and libation is almost worryingly extensive.

Gold bar is a must for whisky, gin and cocktail enthusiasts! This place is tucked away in a little corner of the city which provides an opportunity to hide away and have a nice drink in peace! Personally I was there for the whisky selection which is extensive! The prices are very reasonable and I highly recommend heading in to try the best local and international whiskies from around the world 10/10

We loved this cosy speakeasy - it's totally worth seeking out. It is a gin lover's delight! Ian the owner knows everything there is to know about gin and is happy to share his knowledge. If you're feeling peckish, don't miss his mum's sausage rolls - they're absolutely delicious. This was one of the highlights of our Hobart visit. Will definitely be returning next time we're in town. What a gem!

Amazing place with no cocktail list but best cocktail maker in Hobart. Just tell Ian what you feel like and he will do something with some amazing ingredients from saffron gin to pavlova vodka to the all Aussie Nedgroni. And when you get peckish he will serve up one of his Mum's fantastic pies or some of her sausage rolls. A hidden treasure which I am sure won't remain hidden for long

This was a great little bar near the docks in Hobart. The proprietor was friendly, knowledgeable, and showed us a number of local Australian products that were clearly better than their mass produced counterparts. He made us feel welcome and was super helpful with advice about things to do in the area. Looking forward to returning sometime soon!

Very good drinks - like gin roulette - no menu - tell the bartender (Ian - the owner) what you like (roughly) and he'll make something up on the spot. Takes a personal interest in each person. Even when under the pump, solves problems as they come up. Little crowded, but its a very small joint, so to be expected when it's so popular!

Absolute gem of a place tucked away just off of the marina. We went in and asked if we could do a tasting of tassie gins and before we knew it we were presented seven gins that matched our flavour preferences perfectly. Lachie was an awesome bartender and had heaps of knowledge. Skip the distillery tours, just go here.

I have had lunch here three times this week!! I absolutely love it here. My morning coffee venue and then my lunch venue also! The staff are amazing - the know my coffee order by heart and give me the best recommendations on the food of the day - knowing that I am gluten free. LOVE your work guys, keep it up.

Gold Bar is a haven in the waterfront. Operated by a man as friendly as he is knowledgeable you can feel comfortable knowing that you will get a drink you will love. The intimate setting and the luxurious decor bounce off each other magnificently and I can only strongly recommend the location.

Tried a number of Tasmanian gins here late on a Sunday night. Owner was really nice and recommended a couple of nice ones... Tried slow gin for the first time as recommended by the owner and loved it! They also sell bottles on store for a decent price

We were very fortuitously recommended Gold Bar as an after dinner drink option and loved it so much we came back upon our return into Hobart. Delicious cocktails made by the incredibly talented, knowledgeable Ian. Cannot recommend Gold Bar enough!

We had a great time. Currently walking back to our accommodation and I needed to review on the way. Loved the staff and the vibe, got to chill with some cool people. The cocktails were exciting and fun. A great way to spend our last night in Tas.

Awesome little bar tucked away off the street. Plenty of personality in the furnishings and the service is from someone who is truely passionate and great drinks. On top of the usual drinks there is a great collection of local whiskys and gin.

So good!! Love this place!!! The music, the plush velvet chairs, the cocktails!! There is always a little heater nearby. There is no better place for a cosy winter drink. It is enough to make you forget what weather is waiting for you outside.

We were lucky to find this cute new cocktail bar for a drink before dinner. With no menu, the owner/bartender crafted us some cocktails based on what we liked - and they were just delicious! Would recommend to all friends coming to Hobart.

Best bar in Hobart hands down. The bar tenders are geniuses. You could give them the vaguest flavour profile you want and they will make the best cocktail you can imagine. Definitely a must visit if you are in town.

Came here for one drink and stayed for many! It's a tiny, tiny bar where they make drinks to order based on your taste preferences. I'm so happy we stumbled upon this bar, every drink hit the nail on the head …

Great spot. Busy enough without being massively crowded. Trendy enough without being inundated with hipsters. Staff who know what they're doing. And a cushion filled bathtub for photographic memories. Go there now.

Our impression from other more regular patrons when we visited is that the owner is clearly much-loved. This is not without reason -- our drinks were delicious, and he made excellent Australian Gin recommendations.

This is a special little bar tucked away behind the Hobart waterfront. They specialise in cocktails and whisky with an amazing range including loads of locally made specialty spirits. Definitely worth a visit!

Cozy little speakeasy, tucked away from the street. Excellent selection of Tasmanian and Australian gins and whiskies. Knowledgeable and friendly service. Let Ian invent you a cocktail (if it's not busy).

Hidden gem just off Davey street. Delicious cocktails, pumpin music, great vibe and decor, and awesome owner! Board games too :) Would definitely recommend and will be back next time we're in Hobart!

Great place, really nice laid back atmosphere, knowledgeable staff with great service. Going to have to plan another trip back to Hobart and this place will be high on the agenda for a visit or two.

Excellent cocktails and bar staff that know exactly what they are doing. Some people may find the fact they don't have a cocktail menu daunting...but don't, the guys will get it right every time!

Good cocktail bar, when they say a drink is strong it's accurate. More seating in the atrium with historic wooden flour mill storage silos along one wall.

Went back twice on our quick trip to Hobart because we loved it so much the first time. Thank you Dylan for your wonderful service and perfect daiquiris!
