A lovely and homey place. The staff are wonderful and the foods is superb. The menu stated if you required dietary restrictions. We ordered smoked salmon bagel and chilli scrambled croissant with potato rosti. Noticed as well, there's a bathroom and an outdoor seating. It seems dogs are very welcome here in the outside areas. (If you have pets of course,) They've got a few water bowls and blankets. a heaters for the cold months in the front outdoor area. Very welcoming place and food is fantastic. Highly recommended

Such a great location adjacent to Burwood Station. I had the salmon bagel, soo delicious. My partner had the steak sandwich the caramelised onions were fantastic. We were sat outside it was a little cold but we didn’t mind. A cool little takeaway coffee window faces out onto the walking trail.

This IS a hidden gem .... I agree.... Great service by friendly attentive staff and delicious, healthy food with lots of interesting, 'slightly unique' choices, but also the usual brunch affair as well ... and in a nice quiet spot with several indoor and outdoor seating options ... and great coffee

Love this cafe... Parking is usually easy with the station directly behind the cafe. My favourite is the spicy chicken roti wrap, it's huge and delicious, I usually share one with my sister. (great value at $16) I also enjoy the raclette - basically an open sandwich of goats cheese and vegetables. The coffee is good and the service is friendly and efficient. Prices are reasonable too, good quality ingredients, cooked well and large servings. It's now our new cafe, I suspect this cafe has taken a lot of business away from other cafes in the area.

Always so lovely!!!! Wonderful staff, wonderful food! The menu changes frequently enough that it always has you coming back, but not so frequently that you miss out on anything. They have some fantastic staples that they only change slightly every now and then. There is a bathroom and outdoor seating is available. Dogs very welcome in the outside areas. They've got a few water bowls. There are blankets and heaters for the cold months in the front outdoor area. I've been coming here for years and plan to keep on coming!

  • Victoria Strong

Great café with an eclectic range of seating options, on the sunny side or shade side plus umbrellas. Also right on the bike track and near the station so very popular, but the staff were well up for the challenge. I had the Bennie and it was fantastic - perfect poached eggs and a really tasty rosti, and it looked great too! My friend had the avocado toast that looked amazing too. Good coffees and good service. Thank you!

Nice little cafe near the station, worth a try. I got some takeaway food. Would have liked to get a coffee as I’ve heard it’s good but didn’t this time. Ordered a chicken burger, beef burger and a breaky wrap. Not all for me. I barely finished the chicken burger, which was delicious. I quite like a crispy chicken burger with coleslaw. The paprika on the chips was an interesting change. All takeaway, because, well, we have to right now. Packed well and still hot when we ate 5 - 10 mins later.

Golden Child never disappoints. Great food, service and good coffee. Indoor and outdoor eating options. Plenty of parking and an ideal stopping point on the nearby cycling trail.

Spotted this cute cafe when wandering to the station. So glad I stopped. My staple choice is Zuchinni fritters. These were the best I've ever had by far. Not only beautiful presentation but outstanding taste. Lovely staff too which makes all the difference at times. Nice quite area, outside seating with wind shileds and heaters. Water and glass brought to table on seating with a warm welcome

Fabulous place. Innovative menu. Very professional and friendly hospitality. Right on the Anniversary Trail with convenient bike hoops for cyclists. The chef is doing a few really interesting and creative seasonal options but there are many well-executed standbys for the traditional palate. A homely and comfortable interior design and perfect outside seating. With places like this on offer, I can see why the residents of Glen Iris love their neighbourhood so much.

  • Chip Ip

Was a bit disappointed with the flavors and texture of my dish. The meals looked very appealing...I ordered the chilli scrambled eggs on croissants...my croissant was a soggy mess and there wasn't much kick to the chilli. Another in my group had the seafood linguine...the prawn was way over it's used by date...very mushy and the pasta was overcooked and soggy. The lobster and egg was Ok and so was the pumpkin dish. Service was friendly and the coffees were good.

  • kushagra mehra

Always enjoy going there for a morning coffee. The owner is super nice and the staff is amazing. I miss the coffee since I have moved overseas but can't wait go to back and enjoy my fav flat white. Also great brunch/lunch menu. One of my fav places. They also have a cute outdoor seating area at the back.

What a great little gem! Loved the food, had yummy smoked salmon bagel. Mocha could have been better. Overall loved it! Updates: we came here again as we were in the neighbourhood. Quickly seated and served, coffee and meals came promptly. Wowwed by the presentation of the Chilli Scrambled Egg. Tasted great too.

A hidden cafe that only locals seem to know about, tucked up in a quiet shady street in Glen Iris is this very friendly hot spot. Next door to Baba Sus this cafe stands out for it's space both inside, out the front and the courtyard at the back. Food is very satisfactory, delicious and grungy you might say. Flavours are delicious, quantities are decent. A great spot to take the kids or dog! Or even on your way through the bike track!

  • Heli Vyas

Absolutely loved this place !!!! Went with my family and a friend. We ordered for a vegan burger, caramelised miso eggplant, fried Brussels sprouts and pumpkin Dukkah. Everything was just perfect. My favourite was fried Brussels sprout and salad it was fantastic. The food and drinks exceeded our expectations. The owner was extremely welcoming and made sure my family was comfortable and could enjoy our food. Definitely going back :)

  • T T

Good food, coffee, and environment, and they get extra points for the service. It was cold and we sat outside. When a table became available inside, it was offered to another couple that had arrived before (and was also feeling cold). We got the second available table inside, which was promptly offered when available. The service was efficient, always keeping the table clean and attended. Will definitely go back.

  • Kin Kin

Another local gem close to the Burwood train station with a loyal clientele. The food here is of high standard and generous serving. The coffee is not bad either. Parking is very easy with the station car park as well as plenty of street parking available. It is next to a bike path too for those who may want to stop for a refueling. Our favs here are the chicken burger and the chicken roti wrap.

  • Xennial travel time

When in while out on a course for a quick coffee and a snack.. coffee was pretty average and quite small even for the large at the price and the brownie was ok but nothing to write home about. Staff were busy but very attentive and friendly.

My recent visit to Golden Child was on the weekend, but it wasn't packed to the point of needing to wait in any lines. Fantastic service coupled with great tasting food (waffles for myself) made the experience enjoyable, to say the least. Proving isn't necessarily cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for here. I could see myself returning here in the future.

Managed to visit this awesome cafe before Lockdown 2.0. The place was full. Lucky for us, the lady did her best to find us a table, just can't thank you enough. My favourite Dirty Chai, although not hot enough to my liking, the taste was fantastic. Kransky on toast was absolute Yum Yum. Good luck with everything and hope to see you again after the lockdown.

  • J X

Avoid if you have allergies or food intolerances. Attitude of chef and management is a joke, trying to justify included ingredients when specifically told not to add and staff confirmed docket was written up correctly to not add specific items due to allergy. Food was at least fresh but there are so many better options around this area. No need to return.

Staff very friendly and accommodating despite turning up in a big group and not booking. Food was delicious and enjoyed by all. The fried sprout with bacon dish was hearty and delicious and a freshly baked cookie bought for on the way home. Well recommended. PS The cookie was soft and chewy in the middle and crispy on the outside, just perfect!

  • Den W

Lunching with a large group (13), we arrived 45 minutes earlier than our booking but the staff could not have been more flexible and helpful. We’d ordered in advance and our meals arrived quickly and all at the same time. All the food was fresh, well presented and delicious. Really positive experience all round!

Yum! Yum! Yum! I had never looked twice at this unassuming little cafe in my suburb. However, it’s sure to hit the regular rotation because it’s so good! I had the smashed pea dish, and the other three had the chilli scrambled eggs. Presentation was on point. The coffee was great. Service was friendly and attentive.

  • Lex Xiao

Awesome little cafe! The chips here are absolutely delicious and must try! All dishes here we ordered are pretty delicious so you can't go wrong. Great service with friendly staff and reasonably priced too! The cafe is nice and cosy and you can easily spend some time here. Highly recommend a visit to golden child.

  • Eric Fox

Possibly a shade on the overstaffed side. Place is small and had a ratio of staffing like an apple shop. But that said the food was on point and coffee was enjoyable too. Definately will be back, they just need to sort out a better system for the lycra brigade ordering at the window out the back holding things up.

Great quiet location in Glen Iris with experienced espresso baristas behind the La Marzocco. Even has their own blend of beans! Plenty of seating outside with a bright and simple fit-out. Had high expectations for the food after reading the "Speciality Coffee Melbourne" review but was a bit disappointed.

  • Kai Ansaari

Convenient cafe for burwood commuters with decent coffee and the usual breakfast menu (unsure about lunch). Tables inside & out, clean and well maintained. Service enthusiasm is a little lacklustre and barrista quality inconsistent, but would still recommend for locals. Worth stopping by for sure.

  • Boris Fernando

Dog friendly place? Food had a nice presentation and tasted great! I had the croissant chilli scrambled eggs and my brother had the creme brulee croissant, both of which were very good!! Coffee wasn't bad though I wasn't really a fan of their hot chocolate. Overall though it was a good experience!

Great coffee, friendly service and amazing food. Smashed avo in particular is very generous. Lots of tasty vegetarian options, breakfast and lunch are several all day which is nice. Better than a majority of the cafes in the area, even the ashburton strip

  • Michael Badrock

I came here with my family the other day and it was fantastic. Staff were welcoming and there was plenty of outdoor seating, with a beautiful garden out the back. Each of us picked different items on the menu and they were all delicious! Highly recommend.
