"This is the worst H-E-B in the Houston area, maybe even all of TX and I've shopped at many H-E-B's"
This is my least favorite H-E-B location. I have shopped for groceries at H-E-B almost exclusively (across different locations) for the last eight years, and I go to this one almost every day. First, I understand this store is probably busier and smaller than most others so it tends to be crowded. Totally understandable, though also inherently a little more stressful. Most of the staff here seem to be younger than I have noticed at other stores. I used to believe H-E-B employees were of a higher caliber than your typical customer service associates. I have not found that to be the case here. While some are consistently very warm and friendly, most come off as indifferent and unwelcoming. No smiles, rarely a greeting, generally helpful but not to the standard I came to know and expect from H-E-B employees elsewhere. I prefer to shop later in the day when the crowds have died down, and I understand re-stocking is completely essential and necessary for any store. Shopping here after 10:00pm makes me feel as if I am much more of an imposition than a welcomed customer. After 10, pallets of product often block aisles and shelves, making many items literally inaccessible. There are boxes strewn all over the floors and the stocking associates are everywhere, crowding the already cramped aisles. These crew members range from indifferent to downright unfriendly and rude; often throwing boxes and slamming pallets on the floor. The other Heights location is not like this and even shopping during the nightly re-stocking process at Walmart is not as unpleasant. I do not understand why the store remains open past 10 if shoppers are going to be in the way. This is actually a very serious potential safety concern. Product selection here is limited compared to other stores. Maybe due to the smaller size? Still impressive for a grocery store but not great by H-E-B standards. The exterior of the store is often messy and littered. Carts are left out overnight by adjacent apartment buildings, not collected. Walking on the side parallel to Washington Ave. is difficult and not advised, mostly because of the busy traffic pattern, but even on the sidewalks there are carts scattered everywhere from the curbside service. There is sloppy looking outdoor seating in the space by the corner of Washington and Heights, which appears to be an employee break area; also unpleasant to walk by. This location makes me want to shop elsewhere. The only reason I continue to shop here is because I literally live next door. I am sad when I think of how excited I was to move next to my favorite grocery chain. Major disappointment.
HEB, a Texas staple, has found a welcoming home in Washington and the Heights area, offering an exceptional grocery shopping experience that stands out for its innovation and diverse offerings. The bakery at this HEB location deserves special mention, as it consistently delivers freshly baked goods that tantalize the taste buds. From artisanal bread to decadent pastries, the bakery section is a haven for those with a sweet tooth or a love for freshly baked delights. The commitment to quality is evident, making it a reliable go-to for bakery enthusiasts. The liquor selection at HEB is nothing short of impressive, showcasing a wide array of spirits, wines, and beers. Whether you're a connoisseur seeking a rare find or someone looking for a budget-friendly option, the liquor department caters to all tastes and preferences. The well-curated selection adds a touch of sophistication to the overall shopping experience. The ready-to-eat food options at HEB provide a convenient solution for those on the go or in need of a quick and delicious meal. From freshly prepared salads to hot entrees, the variety and quality of the ready-to-eat offerings ensure that customers can enjoy a satisfying meal without compromising on taste or freshness. The cheese and wine section at this HEB location is a treasure trove for enthusiasts of these delectable pairings. A diverse selection of cheeses, ranging from local favorites to international delights, complements an impressive assortment of wines. The curated pairing options and knowledgeable staff enhance the overall shopping experience for those seeking the perfect combination for their culinary indulgences. In conclusion, HEB in the Washington and Heights area continues to uphold its Texas legacy by delivering an outstanding shopping experience. The commitment to innovation, coupled with stellar offerings in the bakery, liquor, ready-to-eat, cheese, and wine departments, makes this HEB location a standout choice for discerning shoppers.
Super disappointed in my shopping experience today. Or rather lack thereof. I went in to purchase produce and had my service dog with me. Almost immediately upon entering the store a white man (I'm guessing a manager) told me that unfortunately "no dogs are allowed in the building and I'd need to leave with the dog." I recently got injured on the job and was wearing a large black (podiatrist) boot on my right foot per my doctor's advice. I can't walk well, am out of work at the moment and now I can't buy groceries because I have my service dog with me. Did I mention it's about 99 degrees outside? I know better NOT to leave my dog in the car for any length of time when it's hot outside. Unfortunately, I also live about 7 miles each way from an HEB so this whole experience was beyond a huge inconvenience. This is not the 1st time I've had issues at this store. A few months ago, I ordered 2 large fruit trays and 1 large vegetable tray 2 days in advance before I needed them. I let them know the day and time I'd be picking them up. I arrived about 10 min early and they told me to hang out and they'd go get my 3 trays. I waited for 10 min, then 15, then 20. At this point, I was very concerned and needed to leave to get to my venue by a certain time to set up for a party. I asked what was going on and was told they should be coming any min with my trays. Finally, someone came after 30 min of me waiting patiently and informed me that as a worker was getting the trays from the woman who prepared them, she accidentally dropped all 3 and they were all damaged and all 3 needed to be remade. What, are you serious???!!! No one bothered to let me know sooner. To add insult to injury this whole process took an additional 40 min, no one apologized and I wasn't even offered a discount. The trays looked terrible and appeared to be made in haste. What a waste of time and money. Please do better and don't make excuses.
As a whole, I like this store. Merchandise presentation is excellent. Products are front faced on the shelves. The building is new and the aisles are wide and well lighted. All the employees I encountered were very friendly and helpful. The selection of merchandise is good with low prices on many items. I noticed they matched prices with the Yale Walmart location on some items. For example, Family Size Cheerios are $3.64 at both locations. At $5.85 a half gallon, Blue Bell Homestyle Vanilla ice is a bargain. It's $7.99 at Fiesta. I like that the self checkout is limited to 10 items or less. The cashier can check out a basketful of groceries much quicker. I recommend you time your store visit to avoid the rush hours. If possible, I recommend shopping from mid-morning to mid-afternoon on weekdays. I would give this store 5 s if getting in and out were easier. The Washington Ave. spiral entrance ramp to the parking garage is very narrow. The exit ramp from the garage is not clearly marked. Make a special note of where you park in the garage unless you want to walk up and down the rows looking for your vehicle.More signage is needed. This is a good store to visit if you are on a major shopping trip. HEB prices are very competitive. If you are picking up just a few items, I recommend a smaller grocery store. Easy in - Easy out.
This is the worst H-E-B in the Houston area, maybe even all of TX and I've shopped at many H-E-B's. This one off Washington Ave is a nice new store but it is operated & managed extremely poorly. 20% of the time I go here I can actually buy all of my groceries, the other 80% I leave with a basket that is missing many items requiring me to go to another grocery store and waste my time. They often leave expired milk, meats & produce out for sale when it says "Sell by yesterdays date". I just went in there today for milk and only milk. They had plenty of it but all of it expired on 09/17 and the date I'm leaving this review is 9/18. This is not just a one off mistake as I understand everyone makes mistakes. There are many instances where I have gone in only for milk and they either do not have much of a selection or it is expired/expiring within 2 days. The amount of time I have wasted coming to this H-E-B is unbelievable and from now on I will choose to drive to a farther and MUCH BETTER H-E-B in Houston & sit in traffic. What is the point of going to a grocery store if you cannot get all of your groceries?
This store is a joke. I’ve never had a pleasant experience at this location. 1st experience: butchered my cake order 2nd experience: I was having issues with the chip and mag strip on my debit card. I requested my card be manually entered but that was “not possible” due to policy (which is absurd because my card has been manually ran in the past). 3rd experience: the cashier DUMPED all my items (including several carbonated beverages and nicely packaged items from the deli) onto the conveyor belt. In the past, I’ve been asked to NOT unload my basket. The way this person dumped my items felt like a personal attack — for what reason?? The bagger them proceeded to be extremely rude and unhelpful when I requested he basket to walk out my groceries because “that’s not her problem that I don’t know what happened to the red basket I used” This location is nothing short of a circus. Please visit if you enjoy rude attitudes from multiple employees + taking 10+ minutes just to park. 0/10 recommend.
Though I like the store and the experience, the online shopping experience is not pleasant. I was willing to leave it alone, but after contacting the store directly due the website issues, and rescheduling our pickup times, they were clueless on how to handle other than telling me to cancel and reorder. The online experience was already a pain as the checkout process could not process the online coupons for the products it specifically guided us as valid. Took us an extra 20 minutes to reorder twice after already struggling though a poor user experience. You think that after we explained we could not purchase the items and that our pickup time got moved back by hours, that they would find a way to recapture the sale and work with me. Nope. They just don't need my business. Beware that the timeslot you choose may be gone immediately, in the minute or so it takes to checkout, despite the "15 minute window."
!!!SAFEST HEB!!! I left my medication in a cart and I considered it gone but I went back for it anyways. A really honest and wholesome worker had turned it in and normally I wouldn’t be this amped to write a review for a grocery store but dear readers I need you to know it was ADDERALL. A medication that is in nationwide short supply and high demand for people with scatter brains like mine. The fact he turned it in and didn’t take it for himself means he deserves a RAISE. I didn’t get his name but I called the head manager to tell him and make sure he gets his reward since I do not carry cash. If that young man is reading this, I hope your pillow stays cold, your family stays healthy, and god shines down on you with his graces. Thank you!!
HEB used to be my favorite store. Apparently they don’t honor the prices they have listed on the items. I told the cashier at self checkout it wasn’t ringing up correctly. He said it’s by quantity not by weight. I showed him the picture of the sign which states by the pound. He said the sign was wrong. No other help. So I asked him to ask someone else how to override it to charge me the advertised price. The lady said it’s by quantity not by weight. I showed her the same picture and all she said was it’s wrong. They both went back to their stations, nobody changed the sign, and that was it. They wouldn’t honor their posted price. I guess I’ll take my business elsewhere since they clearly don’t care about honoring the prices they post.
I often come to this store but today the employees made me feel uncomfortable. I bought a lot of things, including strawberries, watermelons, pears, apples, and in order not to waste too many plastic bags, I put them in a box and continued with my purchases and a guy approached me. I think he He was a manager and he asked me if I had any business about something... I answered no and I was going to ask him if they had a purchase limit or something... and then with the cashier he didn't know how to charge me for my fruit without a bag, he called another manager and I asked him what the procedure would be... I'm paying for my things, they're not giving them to me. For free
Not a huge fan of this H‑E‑B when it comes to curbside. First time I found a hairball in my strawberries. Filled out the survey and they called and gave a refund. That was nice. Second time I didn’t receive an item I paid for. Had to fill out the survey and got a refund. Third time I received a wrong item. Had to fill out the survey again. I’m wondering if I will have to do this every time in exchange for the convenience curbside offers. Customer service is great but a bit more attention to detail would be nice! This inconvenience seems to be an isolated issue at this location, because in the many years I’ve used H‑E‑B curbside, I’ve not had an issue.
Curbside always forgets something important. You want to make Thanksgiving dinner? They’ll forget to give you the turkey. OR they will sub with turkey necks. Curbside management has no sense, and when called up about their mistake, will promise a refund that never comes. And have a bad attitude about it, too. Nevermind that you can’t even make a meal out of the scraps they sent you. Nevermind that you’ll waste twice the time, effort, and gas fixing their mistake. Just enjoy your turkey gizzard Thanksgiving dinner. Or your everything-but-the-turkey dinner… When you paid for the whole thing and worked twice as hard to get it
I used to live across the street at The Core and I watched this get built. We are talking 2019, pre pandemic. It was so nice to walk to the grocery store, grab and go, and not waste gas. This is an ideal spot with all the people who live near it. It’s on the first floor but most parking is on the second floor. HEB is very well known for their friendly employees and this location is no exception. If you live around there, you know. But if you’re driving by? It looks tucked away in the apartment building but go shop there. The neighborhood vibe is just so relaxing.
I just moved to the area and after browsing this flagship of a store for over an hour, I go to check out. Once there, the cashier informs me that they do not accept Apple Pay, which I find to be very counterintuitive especially in this area along with this day and age. I’m one of those people who has everything on my phone down to my car keys. Unfortunately, I will have to find another grocery store to do business with seeing how Apple Pay is my main means of payment and refuse to find myself in this embarrassing predicament again
This WAS my favorite grocery store until both my fiance and I were racially profiled on two separate occasions - in self-checkout and the floral department. Most recently, today. So unfortunate because it's a great store, but they seem to have a significant amount of ignorant and entitled humans working there. --- HEB is my favorite grocery store, and this is my favorite HEB! I had an employee walk aisle for aisle with me looking for a specific wine and when we couldn't find it, he recommended another that was just as delicious!
This is the greatest grocery. All employees are amazing. They are always stocking shelves, taking the time to walk customers to an item they are looking for and get you help even if they don't work in the section you are looking for. Clean and highly organized store. Variety of items are amazing. Their fresh produce, beef and fish are so good. A little on the high side and they need a much larger parking lot. An added benefit would be to help customers get their groceries in their car. Such as the elderly, etc.
tonite i was the last customer. they made me feel bad. the cashier stormed off and left me so the manager took over. they rush you. they are not nice after hours. they did not bag the small bag of dog food. they overstuffed the bags so they were too heavy. i had to rebag everything. luckily i carry extra bags with me. two weeks ago I got a bagger without the helpful attitude I would've expected. also, they were rough with the items. The bags were also overstuffed and too heavy.
I just love HEB when shopping at there very nice stores, so well integrated into the community, with no store looking the same, but designed to enhance the community around it. All the good inhouse food they make, shopping music to keep you in a good mood & staff ready to help if need , management isn't sitting on there a$$ there making sure the checkout lines or moving smoothly, keep lookout for empty lanes to escort you to. Add a star above.
Hands down the most kid friendly grocery store in the city. Indoor parking garage with spots for ppl with kids. Nice bakery, huge variety of cut fruit/veggies, prepared meals, baby/toddler food aisle. Not to mention the most lovely staff who help empty the cart when you’re with an upset kid and do their best to get you out fast. We regularly make a trip here even though it’s very out of the way! The friendly staff is truly the best part. :)
Parking suuuucckks here. Not a fan of the garage, especially getting in & out of it. But the store itself is always a guarantee in terms of dependability. Always have what I need, & the Sushiya has some great hot meals. Haven't seen the shrimp fried rice in a while, though. Shame. Dan in Produce is super helpful. Asked him about different apple types & he gave me the rundown. Was really cool. Thanks, Dan! He deserves a shoutout.
Love the food options offered through HEB you can't find at other grocery stores. HEB is not your average grocer. You can find all kinds of things there you have never seen before. A delightful experience, no matter which store you go to. I enjoy finding new healthy choices to try! I tip my hat to HEB and all the people that work there. It may be a corporation, but it feels like family.
Ordered curbside delivery, amongst the order was cabbage , I got charged for cabbage , I paid for cabbage , I received no cabbage . I’d like my cabbage . The person delivering the produce was great!! HEB cabbage me!! Update: HEB called to follow up on missing cabbage , offered several options, got a refund. Great customer support .
This store is clean, well stocked and I’m able to find the things I need—-what a variety of Texas honeys! But the best part of my shopping experience has been the friendly and helpful staff. It really creates a positive atmosphere especially since shopping is not one of my favorite past times -they make it a more pleasant experience—thank you HEB on Washington!
gorgeous exterior H‑E‑B building with luxury apartments on top nestled along busy busy Washington Ave . inside is very bright & lively but super high volume. product is always in stock & never really had issues w/ staff but just avoid for the parking alone. will rip ur hair out on how atrocious all the entitled idiot drivers are trying to navigate.
Nice store in the community! It’s a pretty big one! We came here to get a cake but it was close by the time we were there yup we were late but I like the vibe and the food selections they had there. I don’t usually go to HEB but I don’t mind start coming there to have my grocery! Wish we could get a cake Anyways we’ll come again Cheers
I really dig this location on Heights boulevard. Loved the set up, the vibe and the energy. I was able to find the food I needed, along with flowers for my partner, who just underwent hip replacement and stated she loved them!! As much as I love the heights store, which is closer to me, I will make an effort to come back to this HEB again.
Would like to mention Candy, the manager, went waaay above and beyond to help me. This act kindness happened august 1st, hopefully she’ll remember. It was a CASH APP situation that she helped me with; she made my day. Also Hector was the young man working at the self serve area that gave top notch customer service! Thanks you two …
There was an issue with the order my wife called in for some deli trays. Between the gentleman in the deli and Stephanie the manager they were able to get the issue resolved and I was able to get to where I needed to be. Stephanie and I be believe it was Craig in the deli we above and beyond my expectations! Thank you for the help!!
This location is very clean and the food is always fresh. Unfortunately the prices have risen a bit due to inflation, but hopefully that will change in the near future. Picked out this great carrot cake for my mothers birthday. It’s not usually a cake I enjoy, but I have to say this was very well made. Everyone enjoyed it.
The store is always clean and everyone is friendly. I specifically want to thank and shout out Juanita, she was on register 7 and took amazing care of me and my partner. She was friendly and informed me about the specific milk I buy and its perks on returning the milk cartons by recycling.
Amazing location, a pleasure to visit, fresh produce, clean beautiful store, big wine area, lots of prepared foods, charcuterie and cheese area is to dye for along with flowers and arrangements. Finding a parking spot might be challenging, and traffic around the area is SPOOKY.
The experience at this grocery store is very consistent, they have a standard selection of items that you would expect at a HEB. Even when it is busy the checkout lines go faster than normal. Sometimes it can take a long time to find parking due to the nature of the building.
After moving from Michigan, I was quite pleased to find HEB to be a great new place to get my groceries. This particular location is a lot of fun because they have an escalator for your cart up to the parking structure, which makes getting groceries downtown manageable
This HEB is a pleasure to shop at. Parking in the garage is excellent because it keeps you out of the heat and rain. The selection is what you’d expect from a top notch HEB and the atmosphere is upbeat and modern. The employees are all super friendly to top it off!
A few days ago I bought a box of spinach in this store and it came with a surprise (a cockroach). When I went to return it, the manager told me "that's normal for fresh products." He didn't apologize or have any kind of politeness for it. the inconvenience caused…
Unsanitary practice at this location needs changed: I love HEB fresh bread but this location keeps it out exposed and the finger prints in the loaves indicate that people are handling it like fruit and veg. You can't wash bread like fresh produce. Easy fix.
This is more compact than the typical H-E-B, which in my case made for a better experience. I didn’t miss screaming kids, and endless aisles aisle of things i didn’t need. The largest organic section in the city. The wine and beer selection are worthy too
Good luck finding a parking spot. Highly suggest Sprouts instead. Pros: Nice store, friendly staff. Con: Parking is a bear, with very tight spaces and people jocking for spots. Also, the isles are very tight and the place is always packed.
Pharmacy hours should be posted here because they’re different than store hours. I would have sent Rx elsewhere if I’d known I’d have to suffer all night then come back again the next morning AFTER 8 am. Puffy packaging on a fresh salmon
This HEB is located in the Heights suburbs. In order to accommodate the esthetics of the area, the store is located at the ground level and the parking lot on the upper floors. The layout of the store is the same as the one in San Felipe
My favorite place for groceries and all goods related. Who know H-E-B would be a lifestyle but there it is. Upon my first checkout experience I was thrust into the excitement and glory of H-E-B. Thank you Texas for bringing such wonders
Always have great quality, great deals but also the Seafood Department’s clerk Benjamin always have great customer service and a great attitude with us. I love HEB seafood! Thanks Ben for making my shopping experience even better!
Friendly service, usually well stocked, lately more people are bringing their nonservice animals for some reason and putting them in carts, I'd hope the management would enforce against this a bit more, it's not sanitary.
Pretty nice! Big store, though not all the options one would expect, but every store has something missing... Bathrooms were a C; typical, could have been a bit fresher. Love the cart escalater! Cart stays level!
The parking can be a nightmare on busy days and may find yourself in a battle. I like the escalator for the carts. Their fresh watermelon juice is the best, however, I wish it did not have so much pulp in it.
Huge place with reasonable prices and immense range of products. The best you can probably find in Texas. Great indoor parking and everything is new, clean and spacious. Good customer service as well.
Much needed grocery store in this area. They did a great job with the layout and design. It's very pretty and has tons of parking. My favorite part is the huge section of take and heat premade meals.
I went to this store for the first time, with a list of things to buy. I found everything I wanted and with great quality! There is a great environment for you to shop with your family. I recommend!
H-E-B on Washington Avenue is big enough to have everything you need! They always have fresh sushi, fresh fruit, and they’re always stocked up. This is my go to for grocery shopping.
I thought H-E-B accepted Google Pay, but I realized they didn't when I went to check out. Hector was kind enough to pay for my groceries and let me Zelle him. Appreciate it Hector!
Love this H-E-B. Very great location. Also, there’s a handsome strawberry blond/ginger young employee working that seems to be a manager. Highlight of my grocery shopping :)
Love HEB, always visit one when we come to Houston. Their variety of items is amazing. The only issue with this one is parking, which is a problem in downtown.
Curbside team needs to get with the program. It's incredibly wasteful, disruptive, lazy and destructive to be putting single items in plastic bags. Terrible
Overall, great H-E-B just sucks they still don’t have Apple Pay. My neighborhood Kroger has it and it’s a smaller grocery store.
Good location, clean fresh produce, good deli. Plenty of parking via garage with elevator and escalator access to store
What a store. I wish I lived out here for a number of reasons, but this H‑E‑B is towards the top of the list.
Very nice heb! They have a different selection of products than most HEB and I love the parking lot feel.
The best HEB in Houston! I love the assortments of ready made salads and high quality foods.
This is my HEB. Love it. Always clean, and friendly. Wish it had a customer service desk.
