HEAL is the safe haven of pet health care we’ve been dreaming of! TLDR: We felt safe and cared for from beginning to end. Best Veterinarian in Brooklyn! We came in because our 13-year old Pittie love bug, Evie, had a swollen ear that concerned us since this happened once before years ago. We were immediately worried and anxious as the last experience, at another vet’s office, was brutal. She had multiple complications and side effects that led us to pray for her recovery to all the deities and we’re not the praying type. Needless to say, that experience and many others before this made us anxious to go to the vets. Not that our previous vet was bad, but the overall experience was one that instilled fear, anxiety, and urgency. We decided to try a different approach this time around so we searched for a new veterinarian and found HEAL. On the way over, we were nervous not knowing what to expect and were immediately eased by the warm ambiance and the kind woman who greeted us at the front desk. She immediately gave our baby some love, complimented her, weighed her, and escorted us to our room to wait for the Vet tech and Dr. Atkinson. THE VIBE: it’s weird to comment about decor but it’s light years more calming then our previous experience. You can feel the intentionality in the overall space to ease pet parents’ hearts and minds during the scary visits. It definitely kept us chill. THE VISIT: First Alex, the vet assistant/technician came in to take our girl’s temperature, check her heartbeat, and get an idea of the purpose of our visit. She was so patient and open with Evie, which put her (and us) at ease. We shared our concerns a bit with her regarding our dog’s fears (it’s noticeable as she trembles a lot) and the potential need to muzzle her as has been done at our past vet’s office; she confirmed that Dr. Atkinson would take it slow with her so not to worry about all that. Enter Dr. Atkinson. She came in with treats and a warm presence that really grounded us. Evie was happy to know she could score some goodies and we were thrilled to hear that she wouldn’t need surgery. One of our biggest fears! She was incredibly patient with us and our girl. She came up with a treatment plan, took care of her ear, and reassured us about next steps. Her and her team made this whole experience so easy and wonderful all around. THE PRICE: You can tell that this Veterinarian cares about pets over profit. They’re not here to up charge you on services or treatment plans that are unnecessary. The financial fear of exorbitant vet bills that we’ve experienced before always left us dreading each visit as much as our pup did. But at HEAL, we agree that their services are very reasonably priced, especially for the exceptional quality of care received. The whole time at HEAL and our whole way home, we were raving about the entire experience. We’re never looking back; HEAL is our forever Veterinarian Clinic! We can not thank you enough for making this experience incredible for us! Every single person at HEAL made a genuine effort to make us feel safe and cared for. The love was palpable and we left feeling such peace of mind that our baby was gonna be just fine. We are so, so grateful!! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! See you for Evie’s follow-up visit.

I was looking for a vet home for my babies and found this one on line.. I made an appointment to bring my two month old kittens to get their shots and to take a look at one of their eyes that appeared to be leaking fluid. They took my kittens into the back and said I could not come with. First red flag. In less than 10 minutes I hear my kittens screaming at the top of their little voices. I was mortified. The doctor tries to reassure me that they're ok,, by saying the tech is just cleaning their ears of mites. N body told me or asked me if that was ok for them to do. I've never heard of a doctor or vet performing a procedure without the parents consent. Second red flag Now I know why they don't let you accompany your babies while they take them in the back. They then tacked on charges of procedures and medications that I did not consent to. They offered me a carry case during this ordeal to carry them home instead of the box I had brought them in. I didn't understand why, but when I saw the bill, I knew it was a gesture for the unauthorized expenses. I never received that bag btw. Third red flag After making an issue of what they Arbitrarily did, they said they would remove the charge for the scraping/cleaning, but they charged me for the treatment meds none the less. ( Later i saw that they only removed one cleaning not the other. I will reach out to get that refund as well. ) Forth and final red flag I then turned down the ridiculously priced 400 dollar vaccine treatment as i decided to go where normal prices exist. I then paid the $266 dollars for something I didn't even come there for. The visit felt like I was at a car mechanic that was taking advantage of me because I don't know much about cars. Fast talking and and overly friendly while robbing you blind. Will not recommend this place to anyone. Sorry... Not a good experience. The reply to this review is not accurate. But we'll leave it there. I understand you have a business to run and negative reviews are not helpful. I just hope that this review aids you in being more transparent in the future and not taking advantage of your customers. Good day...

While I am sure the vets at HEAL have the best of intentions, the reality is the office is too disorganized and overworked to offer acceptable care. We were patients for almost 3 years, and the care has gotten markedly worse. The result was HEAL completely missing our dog's thyroid tumor. The insufficient care really became clear as our one senior dog started to need more diligent care. We have never had a doctor be on time to an appointment--have even been asked to wait up to 45 minutes for a regularly scheduled appointment. The doctors are slow to call with critical test results. If you miss a call, there is no guarantee when or if they will call back. If you call them to ask for the test results, they wave you off. But most egregiously, when you do manage to connect with a vet, our experience was that the vet had failed to review the test results before calling so they are trying to interpret in real time. We have since switched to another vet and are so relieved that our senior dog is finally getting sufficient care. Our new vet has taken the time to do a comprehensive review of our dog's records and has been consultative about treatment care options. Upon consultation, we have realized that many of the treatments and tests done at HEAL were overly aggressive and carried risks that weren't explained to us. We can't help but feel that HEAL was suggesting courses designed to drive up the cost of care, ignoring what our pet actually needed. Worse still, while HEAL was aggressively treating one "issue" they completely missed the more pressing concern--a thyroid tumor indicated by high calcium levels. Especially if you have a dog that requires more care, I encourage you to get a second opinion.

We were looking for a new vet in the neighborhood and excited to try Heal based on all of the positive reviews. However, our experience was extremely disappointing due to the terrible follow up after our visit. First off, I never even received a receipt after paying for a $800+ bill. I had to follow up several times to even receive this and it took two days for them to send. When they sent it, it was to the wrong email and I had to follow up again. Then the medical history I had requested also was not sent to me for over a week. Each time I followed up via phone and text, Beatriz would let me know that I would receive it by the end of the day. She was also very rude in letting me know that she’s very busy which I might understand the first time but not multiple times. Then I find out Dr Dumas has been out of the office this whole time and and I can’t even receive it until she’s back. I should have been told this from the beginning rather than being told each day that I will receive it. Once she was back, no one followed up with me and I had to call again to remind them. Finally I’m still waiting to hear back on two simple questions I asked the Dr regarding my dog’s blood test results. It has been 4 days and still nothing. This has been a frustrating experience to say the least. I will not be going back and do not recommend this vet. When looking for a vet I can trust for my dog, I’m not looking for just ‘nice’ doctors. I’m looking for a practice that has great doctors and also cares about the entire client experience including post visit follow through.

I just adopted my very first puppy and was nervous about our first vet experience. Fortunately, it was fantastic! The staff were all both extremely professional and friendly, and Dr. Dumas, in particular, has such a way with animals, as you can see by all of her interactions with them and how extremely well behaved and cooperative Riley (my pup) was throughout her visit. Communication was stellar and prescriptions and recommendations were emailed instantly. Whatever platform they use to schedule appointments and follow-ups as well as how to obtain recommended prescriptions or other routine healthcare items is phenomenal as well. For being a first-time dog mom, I expected it all to seem very overwhelming but they made everything go so easily and I could not be more appreciative. They are very kind and responsive and the space is absolutely gorgeous and clean/well kept as well. I am truly grateful to have the team at HEAL caring for my pup and highly recommend them! I cannot recommend HEAL Veterinary Hospital enough! PS. A commute from the upper east side to there was SUPER easy (it's a 2-minute straight-line walk from the F train!), but they also offer concierge services where they come pick up your pet and bring them to the office!

HANDS DOWN, The Best Vet in Brooklyn!!! This is our second visit to HEAL Veterinary Hospital and we were once again blown away by their kindness, professionalism, and PATIENCE. Our furchild used to tremble and cry during vet visits but on her second visit HERE, her body language was calm. She wagged her tail, didn’t cry, and just wiggled from all the love and attention everyone was giving her. During this visit, we were getting our furchild up to date on her vaccines but we needed to get her vax medical records from our previous vet first. The ordeal our previous vet put us and the entire staff through just to get simple documentation emailed or texted (instead of faxed ) was a reminder as to why we switched veterinarians in the first place. We felt terrible but everyone was so kind, pleasant, and understanding! They gave us and our girl water as we waited. When it came time to administer the vaccines, they came prepared with lots of treats. All that to say, HEAL Vets is our forever veterinarian! If you and your pet have experienced vet trauma in the past, you’ll feel safe and at home here.

We love the HEAL team, and we have been through a lot with them over the past few years. Dr Atkinson, Dr Dumas, and their staff are rockstars. A few years ago when our dog Charlie had a blockage (a full pair of box briefs!), as a new client Dr A put in extra hours to preform surgery right away, saving him from further complications. Later when he very suddenly declined from lymphoma, Dr D and Dr A literally coached us through his care at an emergency vet, explaining what was being told to us and what our options might be at that point. Ultimately Charlie was very sick, and Dr A helped us through at home end of life care. I will be forever grateful how we were treated during one of the most difficult decisions we had to make. Now we have a rescue pup named Vega with high anxiety and skin issues and HEAL has been SO encouraging through our complicated journey with her. When she tore her ACL this summer HEAL diagnosed her and helped us through the process of a major surgery and made sure we found an amazing orthopedic surgeon. Thank you to the HEAL team for always being there for us and our fur babies!

We just moved to the neighborhood and needed a new vet for our 2-year-old French Bulldog. We checked out HEAL for its proximity and were immediately impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Our dog has a lot of health concerns, from digestive issues to skin allergies, so a good vet is essential for us. Dr. Atkinson, Dr. Dumas, and the veterinary technicians are all so knowledgable, thorough, caring and compassionate. The team always texts or calls us after each appointment to check-in, and have even scheduled complimentary follow-up appointments where appropriate. At other vet practices, we've received bills that have included unnecessary charges and services, which is never the case at HEAL. Our dog loves everyone at HEAL so much that whenever we pass by on our walks, he doesn't let us go on without stopping in first to say hello for treats and pats. We love the entire team for making us (and our pup) feel like part of their family.

Dr. Kimberly Atkinson and her staff at HEAL were my angels during my cat's medical emergency. Dr. Atkinson was accommodating and willing to get my cat seen soon during a time of crisis. When I arrived at the visit, Dr. Atkinson and the HEAL staff followed relevant COVID-19 safety guidelines to ensure safety for all visitors of her practice. She was responsive and knowledgeable of my pet's needs and treated my concerns as a pet parent with compassion and sensitivity. Dr. Kimberly Atkinson walked me through the medical symptoms my cat was experiencing, explained what exams and/or tests that were required, and discussed a well-rounded treatment plan. As an anxious first-time pet parent, it was reassuring to meet with Dr. Atkinson. If you are looking for a loving, top notch veterinary practice, go to HEAL.

Taking your pet to the Vet is a scary experience. This is not just your pet but an extension of your family. I’m definitely very protective of our 6-year old Mixed Longhaired fur baby cat named Mona Lisa. I’m glad we made the right choice with H.E.A.L. (Helping Every Animal With Love) Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Kimberly Atkinson and her professional team helped alleviate the fear / anxiety with their tender attentive care, empathy, compassion, and love. You can tell this isn’t just a job for Dr. Kimberly Atkinson but a passion. She will treat your pet as if it were her own. While we wait with uncertainty for Mona’s results, I’m glad to say I found a Veterinarian I can trust. Thank you, Dr. Kimberly Atkinson and the professionals at H.E.A.L. Veterinary Hospital.

I have a new puppy and finding a vet I could trust during quarantine, was very important to me. The care we received at HEAL vet clinic put me at ease immediately. The staff is friendly and professional and it was clear that my fur-baby was in excellent hands. The Dr. was professional, inviting and answered all of my questions. The use of technology for scheduling appointments, follow up and payment made the process easier to compete while on the go, which I appreciate because it always seems like there is 10 things to do at once. What I loved most, was how clear it was that the health and well-being of my baby was their first priority as well. I am recommending HEAL vet clinic to all of my animal loving friends! I am hooked on HEAL.. I found my forever vet!!

  • Christina Shusterich (Dog Behavior Expert)

Excellent! I am very discerning when it comes to choosing vets. My puppy had very concerning and confusing intestinal issues which Dr. Dumas was able to diagnosis and treat. She also took her time explaining my puppy's condition fully, never rushing. The office was great as well, calling me several times to check in, extremely pleasant and caring. In addition, prices were not only very reasonable, there was no attempt to "pad" the bill with unnecessary services/testing which unfortunately definitely happens (20 years as a Dog Behavior Expert not only have I frequently come across but many of my clients as well). So exceptional vet, skilled, compassionate and caring as well as the office staff with great customer service. Relieved and happy I found H.E.A.L.

  • Denise Salas

I would like to thank the excellent staff. I Took my 9 year old Miniature Pincher in for emergency surgery due to an intestinal entrapment from a hernia. Johnathan is a amazing Veterinary Nurse he kept me up to date and made sure to do everything in his power to ensure that Cassie and I have the smoothest transition. Dr.Atkinson is so friendly she loves and cares for all animals. I now know that Heal Veterinary Hospital is one of the few vets that value a pets life over profit and I couldn't be more grateful. I know we are not out of the woods yet when it comes to cassies healing, but my mind is at ease knowing that I took her to a place that really has her best interest at heart.

My poor pet had to be put down two days ago after finding out the severity of his health condition through ANOTHER veterinarian at another location in Queens. The only way I found out my poor pets’ condition was when I asked for his medical records. Not once was I explained the exact conditions my pet was in & how much he was suffering day by day but sure enough it was written in their notes. Never again! I’ll be sure to not bring my other living pet back here either. What kept becoming an issue every other month & having to return & spend hundreds of dollars, another vet office was able to cure my pets issue & hasn’t been sick since then thankfully.

  • Jenny Kennedy

The vet basically called my cat a psycho, when in fact on the day of the visit the doctor’s dogs (who were just there for reasons unrelated to their health conditions) were barking for the entire time right next door, which made my cat extremely anxious. They also discreetly charged me for nail clipping when they said it’d be free. They asked me to drop off the fecal sample the following Monday, and when I ubered there on Monday, the office was closed without any notice. Finally, guess what, they charged me for the test while claiming the sample had never been received. Very disorganized staff and disappointing experience to say the very least.

  • Carol Sun

I have a 9+ year old pit bull. She is my precious pup and I always want to give her the best care possible. She is the 3rd dog I have had in my life. COVID radically changed vet care, making it very difficult to find a provider who would met my standards and my pup's needs. I switched to HEAL this May because I was looking for a vet who would allow me to be in the examination room and would also give my pup the best care at the best price. My pup has visited HEAL 4x since May. I am very happy with the care and advice given by HEAL. Their staff is wonderful and of course Dr. Atkinson and Dr. Dumas.

  • Tiffany Martinez

I took my 1 year old Frenchie to HEAL for updated vaccinations and a minor skin irritation and my pup and I had such a pleasant experience. The staff I interacted with was very professional and you could tell how much they love animals. Dr. Dumas examined my pup and determined he has seasonal allergies. She answered all of my questions and explained everything so clearly to me and also gave me multiple options for treatment. Overall, I feel very comfortable and confident with the treatment my pup received and am making HEAL and Dr. Dumas my pup’s designated vet.

  • Macarena Garcia

I’m writing this review as I wait for my health certificate to be able to travel with Winston our frenchie. People are always nice, but this place always over charges you, we’ve never left without paying at least $300 (and usually more like $500). All other vets we’ve been to, charge you between $130 - $150 for the health certificate, here they charge you $140 for the health certificate, plus $100 for the “exam” which lasted less than 60 seconds. Look for another vet that actually cares about dogs, and not just about making money.

  • Daniel Gitter

If you are looking for exemplary vet service, look no further than the team at HEAL Dumbo! My furbaby, Gryffin, has been seeing Dr. Dumas since he was a little pup and she has been a huge help for this first time dog owner! Super knowledgeable about her craft and very patient with the million+ questions I have, I would not recommend seeing anyone else. The rest of the team at HEAL Dumbo are just as friendly and communicative; the administrative staff, vet tech, and other veterinarian, Dr. Atkinson, they are all simply the best!

  • Jacques Leandre

If your pet is a member of the family, Healthy Tails is place for your furry loved one. My French Bulldog, Brodie, has been under their care ever since he arrived from Missouri to NYC. He had his initial wellness check and subsequent vaccinations. In fact, his doctors made a house call upon his arrival. I just love the fact that the doctors are so knowledgeable and courteous, and understand how precious our beloved Brodie is to the family. Without hesitation I would recommend this Vet Service, especially Dr. Atkinson.

  • Dana E Sheck

Love Love love them! First of all they take the time to do it right so be patient. They legit close down for lunch like an old school company and I adore it. ALSO they treat human pet owners like parents who are busy sometimes and filled with worry. For example I ran out of the dog’s medicine I texted them frantically but realized they were closed on Sunday. YET the next day Monday they hit me back in the AM AND with a solution! These people feel like salt of the earth cool genuinely like it ❤️❤️

  • Michelle Gabrielle

Dr. Atkinson is amazing! I have been bringing my dog Athena to her for over 6 years. I live in Staten Island and when she moved her practice to Brooklyn, I happily followed. I would not trust the care of my dog to anyone but Dr. Atkinson. She is caring, compassionate, and always recommends the best options for your dog. She genuinely cares about the well-being of your animal and her bedside manner cannot be matched. I would highly recommend bringing your pet to HEAL Dumbo.

  • Paulina Anna

Recently I got a pitbull puppy and I was looking for a good clinic online. I called few places and this one I was very pleased about. Beatriz explained me everything on the phone called me back when I needed more informations. I feel really good and comfortable about this place. We had our first visit now waiting for another. Place is very nice as well as front desk doctors and nurses. I’m happy with my choice of vet for my puppy I highly recommend this place.

  • Nate

I was very impressed with my experience at HEAL. The doctor and vet tech that saw us were all professional, friendly, and thorough. Our dog was pretty sick and I felt so much more confident in the situation knowing that the staff at HEAL were just a phone call away. They actually proactively reached out to me to check in on how my dog is doing after our visit in case I had any questions for the vet. Highly recommend this vets office!!

  • TiffanyJoy M

Bentley and I have bounced from vet to vet over the past few years and finally found a home! The staff is AMAZING and so pleasant! Dr. Nicole made me feel at ease and provided tips to keep Bentley healthy. Even the toothpaste recommendation has already made a difference in his gums and breath! No other vet EVER told me to get a different toothpaste for Bentley. HEAL is our furever vet!

  • Catherine Castro

I had an emergency with my dog, Benny. I was extremely nervous and the staff at HEAL made me feel at ease and most importantly took care of my dog with their expertise and care. My dog is extremely anxious with others and the staff new exactly how to handle him and treat him which is a huge load off of my shoulders. It was also amazing to support a woman/POC owned buissiness. 5/5

  • Laura H

We have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Kimberly Atkinson. She's treated our two dogs, both labradoodles, with various health issues. She is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and kind. Our dogs seem to love her just as much as we do. I've recommended her to friends and coworkers who live in the city with pets. You can't go wrong here.

  • mary ann Gonzalez

I can’t say enough good things about Doctor Dumas and Michelle. They came to our home twice to see my soon to be 9 yrs old sheltie mix . They were amazing. My Brandy can be a handful . They were so gentle, caring and patient. An amazing experience. I am recommending them to every pet parent I know …

  • Ashley Hamrahi

The care is ok, but this is a wildly overpriced veterinarian. They quoted me nearly triple the price for a single procedure when compared to other vets. They were asking $4k for what I had done with another vet for less than $1.5k. Explore other options before going here and get second opinions.

  • Daisy Hernandez

We LOVE heal. It’s one of our dogs favorite places. Our dog has “trouble” liking people especially in the veterinary setting but has absolutely no fear when we enter HEAL. The front staff always goes above and beyond to accommodate her needs and Dr.Atkinson’s is always gentle and warm.

  • Julianne Benedetto

I recently had my puppy vaccinated and neutered at Heal. We had a great experience from start to finish. The staff and Dr. Atkinson, were kind and attentive. They took the time to carefully explain expectations and make sure I was comfortable. My puppy loves coming here!

  • Andrew Clark

Very professional and great atmosphere. Very modern and airy. My dog scout always feels comfortable here and Doctor Kimberly is awesome. I’ve been several times and I’d highly recommend to other pet owners.
