Hardware store
"5 star not because it has a selection as large as the two corporate big box horror shows that are HD and Lowe's"
"This is my new hardware store go to! The first time I went, it was to get keys made"
"Decent store for basic hardware needs but lacks any hard to find items"
"I understand it's Hawthorne Blvd"
"I always enjoy shopping here and usually opt for this spot over any fred meyer option of the sort"
5 star not because it has a selection as large as the two corporate big box horror shows that are HD and Lowe's. 5 star because a) their outdoor area shows a commitment to and a love of their neighborhood; b) it's an actual family owned and run business that has been either right there or one block up on Hawthorne for 33+ years that I know of; c) the employees give a **** about your concern is-unlike the big boxers; d) they give an intelligent reply to your question, again unlike above; e) they may offer an actually beneficial go-around, again unlike above corporate monsters, f) they know the difference between a "temp fix" and a "that will never work" and a "that'll work for now but get a pro to solve it asap"and "oh no, don't do that!"; g) they KNOW where such 'n such is.
This is my new hardware store go to! The first time I went, it was to get keys made. I'd struck out at two other stores first (one selling keys for $7 ea and the other was oht of stock of basic keys). When I went to Hankins, the employees were kind, the transaction was straightforward, and I could tell they enjoyed working there (always a plus)! Bought dirt there yesterday and was inspired by their garden out front. The employees were knowledgeable about my needs. I even got a parking spot right out front (essential for hauling heavy things)!
Decent store for basic hardware needs but lacks any hard to find items. I usually go here after the hardware store closer to my house doesn't have what I need. Most of those times I leave here empty handed. Last time I went here, I was looking for a common 36" T8 fluorescent bulb, they had every 48" bulb under the sun but not the 36" one i needed. Sad to say it, but I went to Fred Meyer's instead and they had what I needed. What they lack in selection, they make up in service though.
I understand it's Hawthorne Blvd. But I haven't been to any location outside of a hospital that still requires masks for months. I've been to this place hundreds of times over the years, they are always knowledgeable and helpful. The Staff spent the whole time I was there intercepting and arguing with unmasked people....cause masks are literally required nowhere... (except in this hardware store?)
I always enjoy shopping here and usually opt for this spot over any fred meyer option of the sort. They have lots of stuff home and hardware needs, but it's the people that bring me back. Ive come here for big projects where I can step in with a part-list and they help me get right to it. Or I come in with odd projects, where I describe the situation and we all brainstorm ideas to ideas.
My favorite hardware store. Partly because it is about 10 blocks from my house. It is a small store that is packed with hardware. I have found things here that you can't find at big stores. I needed one 6mm Allen wrench that I could carry with me for a frequent mirror adjustment. Not a set, just one wrench, they had it. This is my first stop for hardware needs.
Great selection, knowledgeable staff. Really helpful for locating small components and odds and ends you might need. I was able to go in and a find some mounting brackets and shelf supports with help from one of the employees. People who work in the shop know their material and you won't run into the lack of experience you find in bigger chain box stores.
This place is awesome. The employees are friendly and they know exactly where everything is. If they don't have, they'll happily direct you to a speciality store. Everything is about the same price as the big box hardware stores, and I always find what I need for house and garden projects. Plus, they have a store cat and popcorn. Shop local!
This is a great little community hardware and garden store. Though they're small they have a good selection of everything from plumbing stuff including fixtures to electrical stuff, tools, screws and more. They also have a sign up stating they cut keys and can cut glass as well. They have lots of garden supplies too.
I love Hankins hardware. A good old fashion neighborhood store with first class service. Lois and her staff are friendly, helpful and can usually come up with a good solution to any of my fix up problems. They'll cut wood to size, glass to spec, cut screen and almost any kind of key. I love this place!
The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. It looks like it isn't a very large establishment, but it is much bigger on the inside. They are bee friendly and have an apiary. They have almost anything you could want. I highly recommend them. 10/10 will always go there as a first choice.
Hankins takes the franchise cookie cutter model and sets it aside for an individualized, community centric, hometown atmosphere. They have virtually every item you'd need, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. The entrance is very pleasant - inspiring, relaxing and very creative.
Employee named Lewis helped me out tremendously. He greeted me shortly after walking in. Knew exactly where it was that I need it. Even corrected me and into choosing a better product for the job. Took care of me at the counter. All in all great experience.
They are always helpful whether I'm here on a mission to pick up something for a project of my own or to pick stuff up for my husband because I'm going to the yarn shop down the street. I love the garden in front, the bike parking, and the helpful staff.
Great service - if you need anything, just ask and the staff will take you right there. They also make great suggestions. Only negative is pricing on basic items is a little higher than big box hardware stores, but you can't beat the convenience.
This is my favorite hardware store in town. Staff are super knowledgeable and helpful whenever I go in. Beyond that, it feels like a unique and human place unlike Home Depot and various other chains.
This is a great place to grab the things you need without needing to make a journey to a big box store. They probably have that little thing that you need and are happy to help you find it
Great Store and Great People! I didn't have any cash but needed some fasteners that were only $1 total. They gave them to me and told me to just bring by the money next time i was near by.
Always helpful. If they don't have what I need they know where to get it and will even call around to other hardware stores. Small and packed to the gills with a little of everything.
Love going here and staff is friendly, but when I bought a $200 drill that had faulty batteries, all I got was a shrug and "we've seen that before, you should call the manufacturer"
so cute! they grow fresh tomatoes and peppers i didn’t go inside but from the outside garden i could tell that they sold very cute wheelbarrows and the cut keys and glass …
Sweet place, feels very much a part of the neighborhood. Just wish there was a day or so on weekdays where they were open to like 6 or 6:30 so I could grab stuff after work.
I walked in the door and the cashier says, in a very nice voice, “we’re still doing masks”, and is tapping his finger on the masks. I couldn’t even bring myself to ask why.
Amazing customer service! I always leave with a smile, a solution and the product. Completely opposite experience with the other nearby hardware store. Thank you Hankins!!!
I come here often to get bits and bobs for work. The staff is always so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Hands down one of the best hardware stores to visit in town.
They manage to pack a lot into a very small space. The people who work there are very helpful and friendly. They sell things that are mid range in price and quality.
Always super helpful and never any hustle at this multi-generational family business. Their selection is amazing for their size. Unreserved highest recommendation.
Super helpful with the fuse search. I operate a food cart and the fuse blew went to 2 actual electrical stores and none had what I was looking for but hankins did
Great REAL hardware store. They have everything, they're very friendly and helpful. This place is great, and reminds me of hardware stores I'd go to as a kid.
A great local hardware store that manages to fit nearly every possible item one would need at at competitive price while delivering superb customer service!
Very knowledgeable staff and they usually have most of what I am looking for despite being small. I like to support them over the bigger chains.
Best neighborhood hardware store ... I would lost without them ... They have 99% of what I need ... Saves a ton of time going to big box places
A neighborhood treasure. Their garden in the yard in front of the store is looking amazing this summer, showing off their gardening stuff.
Nice local store today has most household items. Cool garden outside. Great service. There's a lot of items packed in that little store.
Excellent shop, really awesome staff, and they seem to have way more in there than the store seems like it could have from the outside.
I’ve had wonderful service here on three odd projects. The staff were super helpful and patient. They have a lovely garden out front.
One of my fave spots to go bc their advice is always so clear, direct abd helpful. They have a ton of products and an amazing garden!
Amazing customer service, willing to take the time to figure out the best solution for your needs. Very good people and great store.
Great neighborhood hardware store. Even has an official 'shop cat' that hangs out there. Good selection and very helpful staff.
Owner's rudeness and lack of consideration for individual's medical needs and the choice of mask material is very disturbing.
Saves me a trip to a big-box hardware store almost every time I need something. Super helpful, friendly, knowledgeable.
People werent that friendly. I felt like I was being looked at like potential shoplifter, even tho I bought my items.
Do NOT go to this store. They require masks. Even though the CDC has deemed masks useless. Waste of time to go here.
A hardware store where the employees can actually answer questions. And know where stuff is on the shelves. Awesome.
I love this place and they are super helpful. The inventory is really good and an excellent local hardware store!
This place has the most helpful staff, and will point you in the right direction if they don't have what you need
Very handy to have in the neighborhood! Most every time I run out of random parts, I can get what I need here.
Perfect neighborhood hardware store. Impeccably organized, well stocked and super friendly and helpful staff.
Only needed a basic key cut, but the staff were super friendly and helpful. Will return for any future needs.
Every time I come here, the employees are friendly and very helpful when I have questions. Love this place!
A great neighborhood hardware store. They fit a surprisingly large selection in a small space. Nice staff.
Came in here to get 12 (and only 12) screws. The guy didn't charge me. That's 5-star-worthy right there.
This store has so much! There's a beautiful garden out front, and the employees are all super helpful.
Always love going into here, friendly and knowledgeable staff. They always have what I am looking for.
Great selection in a small space with s VERY helpful and friendly staff. I can get lost in this place!
The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Will be going back for all my DIY and painting projects!!
Awesome place. I had a few very random things I needed to get and they helped me find all of them.
Very helpful staff, quick service, great experience! Wish I had checked out this shop sooner.
They had exactly what I needed and they were a very pleasant crew of people to work with :)

The best hardware store ever. Super helpful staff and I wish I didn’t move further away.
They are so helpful, I’m usually in and out very quickly with really good advice
These guys are awesome- knowledgable, friendly and always there to help you out.
Best service I've gotten in a hardware store hands down. Friendly and helpful
Super helpful staff, adorable little neighborhood hardware/garden supply.
Great stock, helpful staff and it feels good to support a local business.
Nice people that know what they are talking about. Bikeracks available.
Fairly small but extremely well stocked store with very helpful staff.
Manager's offensive behavior and rudeness is a certain deal breaker.
Ace stores are always great. The staff here was very knowledgeable.
Wonderful local hardware, very helpful staff, amazing selection.
Wide range of products, decent prices, poor customer service.
Always has what I want, in and out quickly or browse forever.
Always friendly service with great garden product selection.
Fantastic store. Excellent selection, very helpful staff.
