Well what can I say, the library seem like a good place to read from the outside because of the cute building but a closer look and feel, got me disappointed. I believe it is poorly maintained, my first and only experience was a horrible one just yesterday 4/2/2021. I got there a few minutes after opening hours, there was no light, i got signed in and I settled to study, after some hours there was still no light, i went to ask if the Gen wd come up soon, the response i got was that there was no diesel so if PHCN doesn’t restore light, there won’t be light. I had no choice than to leave cos I needed to charge my laptop to continue. The hot weather didn’t make it any easier. Though social distancing and no face mask no entry was enforced which was a good thing. So overall, I wd give them a 5 out of 10
Herbert Marcaulay library is one of the best in Nigeria it's well equipped, and very condusive for studying. The environment is quiet, the Halls are well equipped, they even have air conditioning in all the rooms. They also have Pi Top computers for you to access ebooks. They also have standby generator for constant power supply. Although at times there will not be enough fuel available to power the generator. Guarantee Trust Bank is one of the major partners sponsoring the initiative. Other big organizations should also invest in projects like this which will have great impact on education. Another thing that is needed is free internet services that will allow people to be able to research on the internet. I believe this is achievable if more organizations can invest their funds in the project.
It is a lovely and quiet place to read. However, the librarians need to caution the users and also move around the library occasionally to ensure compliance with the rules. Some people refuse to put their phones on silent, thereby disturbing others. Secondly, some people stay in the open space to gist and discuss, this space is adjoining to the library and the noise disturbs the users. A lot of people just come in to sleep, thereby depriving legitimate users, while others watch movies throughout their stay in the library. I understand they tried to curb this by stopping people from using the sockets to charge their devices.
Around 2017 when I needed to look for a spot to use my laptop in Lagos, Herbert Macaulay Library (HML) came top of the list. There is a lounge area where you can come with your laptop and extension and internet and get free power to use your laptop with. There is also a reading section where you can take books and read (you can't borrow though). There is a newspaper section where you can sit and read newspaper. There is a courtyard where you can talk and exercise. And there is the CodeLagos where Lagos State Government teach how to code for free. You need your ID card to access the services here though. Lovely place
The unveiling of the newly renovated library by GTBank is impressive. I was not prepared for what they turned it into - Well furnished and tastefully so. Definitely, a source of pride for the workers. Books are still being put up, while the eLibrary is ready for use. I observed Spectranet lacked service around here but should hopefully improve for use as I am also aware that is the service provider deployed to the library. A must-go to place to see what Lagos State is bringing back through its partnerships with the public sector.
It located about 10minutes walk from dominous pizza, Agnes. One of the best library I have been to. It has a place where you can use your laptop, a place where to read for kids and adults. It fully air conditioned. It also have a yard where you can seat and discuss. Currently Codelagos is happening in the centre and one the rooms Is for this purpos e. It has a projector, a rest room There is an help desk There is also a newspaper section where you can read newspapers
Tip: this library wasn't this beautiful until Guaranty Trust Bank came on board. This is a public library which is a very wonderful place to read. It has spaces for laptop users and there's a computer section too (1 hour per person). The shelves are fitted with nice books and I found two of John Grisham's books there. The air conditioners may be faulty but the place is great. And there's a carpark too. All you need to use this place is an ID card. Great place.
I will definitely be updating photos of this place as soon as I am able to change my devices. Great place to study. You can bring non-oily foods. Is open 8.30 am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 1pm in Saturday. You need a valid ID to gain entrance. Parking lot is will not contain more than 12 cars. Students, workers, readers all welcome. I am thinking of donating my books once I am done with them. Kudos @gtbank and LASG.
With the Herbert Macaulay Library upgrade being a GTBank "You Read" initiative, no doubt that this library would be a go to resource centre for learning and research. The upgrades are tastefully done, with the orange theme all over the place. There's the library with computers, a lounge for eating, an outdoor area, an ATM and a mini hall. This library comes recommended.
The library is financed and maintained by GT Bank as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The facilities are standard and has a decent environment for studying. There's a small parking lot inside. However, the noise from moving vehicles often may be a disturbance, but nonetheless, a quieter area inside the building will save you the noise.
Beautiful facade, serene environment, located at the heart of yaba, just few metres away from university of Lagos. There is parking space for less than 30 cars, traffic holdup could be a bit serious during rush hours, there is a Gtbank atm gallery at the entrance of the library. Interior in itself is interesting. …
Here today! Not enough parking space for more than 10 cars at a time. Cool atmosphere! A lil soft tune plays... Don't know if it's like that at other times but I came here for a group reading session. It's quiet though. Close proximity to the road. Ambience welcome. Courteous and welcoming staff anyway. …
Such an amazing initiative by Lagos State Government and GTBank. I like the fact that it has a Coding Training Room. It’s free to use the Library. All you need is a valid ID Card. You can come with your laptop but no wifi for it. But they have computers with internet services. It opened from 8:30am - 4pm.
Go with an ID card, turn phone silent, drop your bag at the reception box, collect a seat number. They now close at 3pm maybe coz of the pandemic. 1 issue i have is that their table numbering is scattered. You can't really trace a seat number. But generally, a silent and mild avenue to read.
Wasn't comfortable with the fact that there was no provision to charge laptops. Also prior to the information I got when I called to make enquiries about fre WiFi. I was shocked to discover it wasn't exactly true on reaching there. Nice building but could be better
It’s a quiet and cozy library on Herbert Macaulay way. All you need to do is come with your valid ID card, hand sanitizer and wear a face mask. The downside is that the library is small, so you may get there and have to wait or leave because it is filled up
Ok google, I am personally offended, this is how I get to miss reviewing place I go to cos google is not requesting for a review...Level up google, level up I strayed too far, I know, let me come back to the library... So I heard the You
It's a nice library, they have reading room also a place to use computer and also a place to use your laptop you can also stay in the garden it is lovely Their shot coming is they have no place to charge your laptop while using it a zero for me
It's a wonderful initiative, but compared to its peers on the global platform, this library doesn't stand a competitive chance. The books there are super old editions, plus I think I have more books personally than this library
Waooh, it a Great resource center Especially For People Within Yaba Environs And Even Beyond. Cosy Weather And A Comfortable Reading Environment The Only Cons Is That It Can Only Take A Hand Full People At A Time.
It's a really cool library with modern facilities (computers, air-conditioning etc). I found the staff to be quite helpful on my first visit and the atmosphere was quite serene
They prevent you from charging your pc when they are on Generator(they claim too much connected PCs zaps fuel, smh) really funny though. Apart from that, its all good.
I was told I couldn't power my laptop there. And that the main purpose of wanting to use the library since there is no reliable light in my area. It Sad actually
The space get filled up,people were sent to this open space. When there is space inside, people were called at random instead of first come first serve basis
Good place. Courteous staff. Only minus is they tend to ration use of air conditioning. I guess it's Covid-19. Waiting to see what happens post-Covid
It's a very very nice place to read and have access to computers with good internet connection. They have lots of books too, it's a standard library
A good place to read, quiet. Only wished it had more seats and books and you could charge devices there to work with. At least it's free, in Lagos.
Very good study environment, though I feel there's need for more books and users should be more conscious of the maintenance.
It's quiet, great atmosphere for studying, very well maintained, and the staff are professionally strict with the rules.
It has a lovely ambience. It has lease able spaces to host book readings and launching. With adult and kids libraries.
The library is really nice. I had a good time reading there. Although sometimes if you don’t get there early no space
If you need a cool, coordinated and well disciplined reference library to read, YouRead is your best stop.
Good library except for the Permissibility of plugging laptops and mobile phones
A very good atmosphere and a wonderful place to spend quality time reading.
The place is a very nice place to read, and the librarian are friendly asli
Very cool. Except for noise when the tank is full
I Loved it. A very comfortable environment
Very comfortable and well organized
