Terrible Customer Service. I purchased a mail slot for a door I purchased at a historic preservation store. Unfortunately, the slot I chose does not work for doors less than 2", though this is not noted in the description. Sadly, I did not discover this until after I had cut out the opening in the door. When I called I was put in touch with a "hardware specialist" who argued with me about the flap opening inward. When he finally agreed the slot I had wouldn't work he wanted to transfer me to a "customer service specialist" for the refund process. I asked if before he did he could help me determine a different slot that would work (and fit in the opening I had now cut) he told me he only deals with "new orders." Exasperated, I asked to talk to a manager. I was ultimately sent to a new, more experienced, "hardware specialist" (Yvette). While she was initially helpful we were not able to determine a suitable replacement. Since that time multiple calls and an email have been unreturned. I was ultimately refunded the purchase price, though they kept the shipping. Had the slot been correct it was well built and would have served my needs well. However, it is now two weeks since I contacted them and I still have no mail slot. I will update this once House of Antique Hardware has helped me to resolve this.
I have restored 3 historic houses with the assistance of these folks. Each time they have given me great advice and provided me with beautiful products. My first venture was a 1910 Craftsman and I was new to the restoration game. I knew that I wanted to do it right, but didn't always know what the correct choices would be. HoAH always patiently steered me in the right direction. By the time I was onto my next project, a 1925 California bungalow, I had read about 100 books, and was actually producing workshops and seminars on restoration. But it's still nice to have a friend in the business and Jennifer, my contact from my first project, was that trusted friend. I felt like I had gone backward, so I went to work on a 1907 Folk Victorian. Back to Jennifer for cool porch hardware and other jewels. I have a huge affinity for antique hardware so I was not just happy, I was thrilled by my purchases and the degree to which they enhanced my cute little house. The hinges on my 95 year old mother's armoire broke so I texted photos of the hardware to Jennifer who promptly sent me some links to where I could possibly find similar items. Yes, I love this place and they have really increased my ability to do quality restorations.
Superb service and great products! Seems we keep buying older homes, fixing them up for ourselves, and then having to move on to the next. We keep going back to House of Antique Hardware again and again. We do so because we love the selection of products and are impressed with their customer service. They must have a great CRM system because they know who I am when I call and how much business I've done with them in the past. I like that a lot. It makes me feel like I'm an important customer even though my purchases probably pale in comparison to others. Regardless of the issues I've had (bought the wrong product, questions about how to use things, and even received an incorrect order), they are quick to help and always without any issues. They provide a great example of what excellent customer service should be. Regarding their products, their push-button switches look so authentic, my realtor told me I was going to have to switch them out before I could sell my house. And their face plates are so beautiful, I found that my neighbor had installed the same ones...seems we both have impeccable taste.
In rehabbing our 1804 farmhouse, we found House of Antique Hardware to have everything we needed. The product was shipped in a timely fashion and exceeded our expectations. We placed the order toward the beginning of our 3 year project and after moving back into the home I noticed one of the rim latch sets wasn't working properly. I took it apart and saw there was a small steel leaf spring that was broken. I sent an email on Sunday and Monday morning I had a a response from David in customer service saying he would send me out a new one right away. I'm very glad I purchased from them and will refer them to anyone and everyone I can.
I'm surprised to see the poor reviews. I normally don't write reviews but after seeing the poor reviews I felt compelled to write one. I have ordered different hardware parts for my house for the past 7 years. I have been slowly remodeling different areas of the house to match it past glory and I have found all the parts at House of Antique Hardware. Every time I called to get some answers they were very knowledgable and helpful. The quality of the products is astounding and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I highly recommend them! Don't pay attention to those reviews and give them a chance. You won't regret it!
I had been looking looking for unique faceplates for my home bar and stumbled across House of Antique Hardware. Their super detailed descriptions of products and their price point drew me in. I ordered the unlacquered brass covers with a mother of pearl push switch and they were awesome! Shipping was fast, items better than expected, and price was great. My one knock is I wish the website had actual pictures of some products instead of renderings. The product I got was so much better than the rendered version on the site. I know this is easier said than done so can't fault them for it! Overall, 11/10 experience
When they couldn't help me I just said no thanks and I would rather try before I buy. The operator must have thought I was complaining because she said "we get this all the time and we could spend all day with just 5 or 6 customers. How it works is you buy it and if out doesn't work you return it." I understand how commerce works so it felt a bit condescending and like they might be tired of fielding customer complaints, which could tell you something. My advice, keep it online and avoid the call center.
Ordered hardware for a cupboard I refinished. Knob backordered, but received the hinges extremely quickly. When I received the knob, I realized I had inadvertently ordered two different finishes. Reordered and returned the incorrect hinges. Received the new hinges the next day and my refund was processed within a week. My initial order required a phone call in which I received exemplary service. Love the hardware, and will happily order from this company again.
I have now ordered from this company several times. The products I have purchased from them have been such great quality at such a reasonable price. They also have great sales. Being a native New Englander I am a lover of historic homes and House of Antique Hardware has so many great products to fit into a wonderful old home. Or a new one! I have had continuous outstanding customer service as well. Thank you House of Antique Hardware!
Sure, their stuff may look good, but they don't carry any replacement parts. In my case, where I need one door bolt replaced, they told me my only option was to buy the complete assembly again, over $200 to just replace the one piece. Customer service was rude and unhelpful. If you call yourself a hardware store, carry replacements or be seen as BS'ers.
I absolutely love this website. I have purchased many products, including the Entry Handle set, numerous knobs for both indoor and outdoor. The quality and look of these products are breathtaking! I highly recommend ordering from here. The employees are also extremely helpful and attentive when ordering over the phone.
Huge selection, hard to find items, great prices, We did not have time to rummage through antique salvage yards for period hardware so we contacted these folks, they had what we needed and delivered at a great price. The iron hinges are robust and look like they came from the local blacksmith. Great experience!
I recently purchased and installed 13 antique brass cupboard latches. They were very expensive but worth every penny. The quality of these latches was outstanding...from the weight, finish, color, mechanical function, hardware screws and even the packaging. Everything about this product says "quality".
Ordered a two-sided, skeleton-keyed mortise lock-set in a chrome finish. Arrived with handles and escutcheons in chrome, but mismatched strike-plates and latches in a bright brass finish. I don't think that kind of inattention to detail is acceptable in a $170 lock-set, so I returned it.
I sincerely TY, we have two china cabs that we lost the keys to, i search sites snd found nothing, i searched google, and this site popped up, i checked it and was amazed, i not only found the two keys but also purchased the master set, TY all at H.O.A.H
It took 11 days for me to receive my order of two screws. After calling them and spoke to Cheryl, she advised that there is a processing time. It still was not shipped until 4 days later. Waste of time!!
Ordered a pound of nails and received in 3 days from Oregon to Illinois. Would definitely order products from this company again.
Selection is good but the customer service was terrible. I spoke with 2 different people and they were equally rude.
This company is very responsive and a pleasure to deal with.
