La Bottega Milanese offers a distinctive experience in the realm of coffee shops, with its exceptional coffee being the main highlight. The coffee here is crafted with a dedication to quality, offering a rich and satisfying taste that will appeal to coffee enthusiasts. However, there are significant aspects that detract from the overall experience. Firstly, the staff at La Bottega Milanese tends to display an almost unfriendly demeanor. While they maintain a level of professionalism, the lack of a welcoming atmosphere can be off-putting for those seeking a friendly, inviting environment. Another major limitation is the absence of internet access. This decision significantly impacts the functionality of the space, especially for customers who seek a coffee shop as a workspace or a study area. In today's digital age, the lack of Wi-Fi access is a notable inconvenience, deterring patrons who need to stay connected. Furthermore, the pricing at La Bottega Milanese is on the higher side. Given the limited services and the non-conducive environment for work or study, the value for money comes into question. The combination of high prices, absence of internet, and a less-than-welcoming atmosphere leads to a 2-star rating. In summary, while La Bottega Milanese excels in delivering high-quality coffee, it falls short in providing an accommodating and comfortable environment for a broader audience. This coffee shop is perhaps best suited for those who prioritize the quality of their coffee over the need for a welcoming, work-friendly space.

I come here quite often because the drinks are good quality and there is a range of drinks that it’s hard to find elsewhere. However, most of the time the staff are very surly and rude and make you feel like they aren’t bothered at all. Today the girl who served me ignored me for ages while I was standing at the till waiting to pay and while she served me she just carried on chatting with her colleague and they said something rude and started laughing in front of me which I found very unprofessional. It’s almost like the customers are an inconvenience to the staff who want to just relax and have fun together. The place is popular though and always full of international students with their laptops and local professionals having meetings. I wonder why they close at 5 and don’t stay open longer as they are obviously very popular and would definitely do good business in the evenings. I suppose it’s because they don’t seem bothered and don’t really like the customers! Hopefully they can work on their customer service because the drinks are really good and it’s in a good location.

I spent just over £6 in this cafe, when I asked for tap water, the member of staff replied saying "we don't have tap water, you can buy water from our fridge." I replied saying, "is the water from the tap (I pointed at the sink behind her) not safe for drinking?". The lady asked her colleague what the situation is with tap water requests, the colleague said we can give an espresso cup for the customer to fill water up themselves at the end of counter. I was reluctantly given a cup and watched by another colleague as I filled my cup up. Staff were so rude to me. It looked like the lady on the next table was drinking tap water from a bigger cup - I didn't explicitly ask this customer tho as I didn't want to interrupt. This cafe are licensed to sell alcohol and therefore are obligated to provide tap water. Even if they weren't a licensed premises, the way I was addressed wasn't nice, no way to speak to a paying customer. I won't be returning here again. So disappointed and upset by this experience.

I've seen some other reviews here talk about La Bottega Milanese as a "cosy cafe" etc. which IMHO, I don't think is correct. It's a very chic, modern location with Scandi influence but it's all hard surfaces that echo sound around, and chairs that aren't comfortable to sit in for an extended period. It's a lovely place to go and enjoy a hot drink or pastry, but it's very loud inside making having a conversation difficult. It's also, often very busy in here with people who pop in to sit and do some work so you may struggle to get a table. The food and coffees are more expensive than other places of similar quality in Leeds but delicious non the less - especially their focaccia sandwiches. In terms of quality, this is one of the best places to get a quick lunch in Leeds, but if you are after a cosy location to sit for ages, there's much better places for that.

I'll start with the good points, the coffee here is always great, as are the pastries and hot food, the outdoor seating is now much more comfortable and perfect in the summer. Unfortunately, it's changed in recent months, the atmosphere is completely different to the lively Italian vibe it used to have, it's packed with students on laptops hogging all the tables, with some even leaving coats on tables while they go and talk to others. There is no 30 min laptop limit like some other cafés. While some of the staff are still friendly and chatty, others are really off and aren't interested. It's a shame as this café was a real gem in Leeds, but the working folk of the city I think will go elsewhere now. Perhaps the owners don't care as it's more packed now than ever.

This used to be located inside "the light" in the heart of Leeds city centre. When I went there as lockdown was lifting, there was a message attached to the door saying they had left this location and moved to a new place at bond court Leeds (a photo of this message is provided). The new location is excellent, it's much larger with a lovely outdoor area too! There is also a disabled toilet available for everyone. As usual the drinks are lovely although as the sizes are smaller compared to their main high street competitors but the price is the same, I would argue it's a little expensive. However the confectionery provided, such as the cannoli, pistachio cheesecake etc, the Italian based main meals etc are delicious. Overall, la bottega Milanese is definitely one of the top coffee places in all Leeds (and arguably all of West Yorkshire too).

*They grind your coffee as you wish for different purposes. This one is definitely a plus although for the perfect coffee experience I wouldn’t suggest grinding your beans at stores as they lose their flavour. As a coffee shop itself the experience is amazing, however I wouldn’t say their coffee amazes me. Another thing, I wouldn’t say this is a very inclusive place for the general public as the location itself gives out an exclusive vibe and the customers are mainly white collar business people and edgy individuals. So I can positively imagine some amateur coffee lovers would find themselves awkward in this place. However, as usual, above is just my personal opinion, I’m only hoping for them to be useful for those who can relate. All in all, definitely worth a try.

  • Jess Fishenden

Superb coffee, pastries and light meals are very good too. Knowledgeable and passionate staff. Outdoor seating. Also much appreciated is use of a bike pump! Quite dense seating inside, personally wouldn't rate it for a working space, but it seems popular for that so YMMV. Tends to be quite noisy with many hard surfaces and metal furniture, no soft furnishings to be found, but this seems to be all part of the aesthetic, and it is a well decorated space inside.

Are you looking for a cosy cafe to catch up with friends or your loved ones? Look no further. La Bottega Milanese is one of the cafes in town that you shouldn’t miss. Upon entering the cafe, you will be greeted by the coffee aroma. The atmosphere is warm, and it is a perfect location to have a casual conversation. We had Americano and Chai Latte. Each of their coffees is expertly crafted by their barista. Look at the art on the coffee. It’s so beautiful! Their coffee is robust, no complain at all. While you are here, you may want to try their pastries too! Service was polite and efficient. We will definitely come back here again. It is a pet-friendly cafe, and staff adhere to COVID19 guidelines.

  • Chris Hughes

Unfortunately the experience I had as part of a group of 10 wasn't great. The prices are reasonable for such a place however the system for ordering and collecting drinks broke down spectacularly with a queue of up to 15 people all waiting for drinks that were coming out in a random order. Drinks were made that were never collected (and I presume never ordered) and even after I finally collected my drink after 10 mins I had to ask for my toast. I was told that it hadn't been forgotten and "just coming" by the person on the empty orders counter who then promptly turned round and started making it. It wasn't bad coffee or food but the lack of organisation was spectacular.

  • Dave Thompson

Coffee was great well made by an obviously experienced barista. Great selection of sweet treats and savouries with seating both inside and outside. Only issue really is there is only the 1 toilet which is for all customers. A queue soon forms. An annoying thing I find in most coffee establishments is people meet up for a chat.. nothing wrong with that in itself but after finishing their drinks they sit there hogging tables and chairs chatting away with empty cups infront of themselves with no intention of purchasing any further drinks and of course their chatting continues for 5 or 6 times longer than it took for them to drink their coffee!!

  • Foon Ng

I went to this place with my family. It was very busy when we arrived. Many customers with laptops. It made me think they were hogging the tables for a long time which seemed unfair to other customers. Anyway we ordered some desserts and drinks which were very good. However the drinks collection area is a bit disorganized. Waited for quite some time for my order. I saw a customer complained to the staff he had waited 30 minutes for his drink. Overall for us it was a pleasant experience. Not the cheapest place for coffee and cake though.

Great little cafe. Excellent coffees and unique range of Italian food. Changed owners recently but still on top form, busy and the coffee is still excellent. UPDATE May 2023 - still an excellent choice for good coffee. Updated December 2023 - still one of the best cafes in the city. Excellent coffee, pastries and sandwiches. The only slight downside is that too many twenty something students sit and block tables for hours with their latte and laptop!

Terrible experience the server was soo rude : middle aged woman black hair. We have been loyal customers ever since this coffee shop opened. The quality of the coffee was watery I don’t think the pressure was set correctly on their coffee machine. I asked her to warm my pastry for me and she refused. This woman can take lessons from the dreaded hair lady that normally serves us. Who is polite friendly and always goes the extra mile. Prior to lockdown we attended daily ! We will never attend again! Disappointing! Disappointing! Disappointing !

This place is a must visit if you would like a good coffee in Leeds. My last visit I had a split shot coffee and a selection of authentic Italian treats. The coffee lacked a slight bit this visit but this is the first time ever and I have been going for years. It has had a revamp in the interior in the last year and looks very chic. Can get very busy around lunchtime so tables can be limited. You can for a buggy between tables if visiting with a little one.

Update May 2021 It has been a difficult year for all, some like myself have lost a beloved one. She loved to chat with the staff especially Daniel and when I come in they all greet me like a family friend. Their coffee is a bit of Milano, their food a bit of Venice and they treat all customers as royalty A very special place They stole a slice of Milano and brought it to Leeds. The staff caring and attentive, the coffees are very good and strong. Stay away from the sweets and pastry those are all mine ! Okay will might share one

  • Lilian Lungu

The coffee is awesome (they use good good coffee beans) BUT BUT BUT be careful with the food they serve food from yesterday which is kept hot. By the law hot food should be served within 8 hours and never passed for the next day. Plus their Pollo Panino sandwiches are too dry, one tomato slice and 1 lettuce slice and just a bit of mayo. Good staff and refund available that’s why 3stars and not 2. Too tight inside and no parasol outside, you keep the customers in the burning sun? 27* outside guys. Could be better

  • Damian L

The branch at the Headrow is absolutely great. Friendly people, good coffee and desserts. I had a bit of an issue with the coffee I ordered at the Bond Court branch- because of a bad attitude from one of the till workers. However the owner Alex contacted me within a few hours which was the right thing to do so he obviously cares about his customers. So, I'm willing to give it another try- perhaps that person was just having a bad day! OK will look at the big picture - and give it another go-Damian

  • Katy L

A great place to go for a very good quality coffee and great pastries. The staff are really friendly too. It's rather on the trendy side and the decor is super modern and minimal, so I wouldn't call it cosy, but I think they're going for cool vibes. The only thing is, being so cool can make it feel a little intimidating.

Came over with mates for a concert in town and super randomly stumbled across this place. Absolutely lovely, got served by the most beautiful girl in town Ilenia, really bubbly and professional, very knowledgeable and was happy to give us recommendations about food and drinks, Harry made our coffees, top man! Everyone was really friendly and we had a great time, came back for breakfast the next day! If you pass by Leeds definitely visit this gem in town Thanks a lot guys

The food was fantastic and the coffee brilliant. Some items can be pricey but for a Sunday morning treat etc it's perfect. It was very expensive and not worth the price! Got, latte, hot chocolate, sandwich and a croissant, which cost about £12 something! We didn’t really like the coffee or hot chocolate! The sandwich was good and the almond croissant was really good! That was the only thing I’d go for! The girl who took our order was nice but I thought the barista who made the coffee was a bit rude! I was excited to try this place, but it was disappointing!

  • Evan Holm

Decent coffee in a nice trendy setting. I really like the seating along the windows but less keen on the little trays they give you for the coffees. Looks nice but not practical for carrying a roasting hot drink to your seat. As an black americano drinker I didn't like the glass jug it comes in either. Looks nice again but too hot to hold comfortably and a bit too much water in it, making it a tiny bit too weak for my liking

  • David Eastwood

Lovely coffee and pastries. Unfortunately our experience was ruined by the rudeness of the young lady taking food orders. Not knowing I was supposed to place my coffee order with her colleague, I was savagely cut across in my attempts to place my order. Customer service could have been much better I'm afraid.

Good coffee, not lights out but something dependable that you'll be able to rely on and enjoy. The range of sweet and savoury food options is good too. It's hard to put my finger on why it kissed out on a full five stars for me. The staff are friendly and the quality of all that they are offering is really good. I think the price point is a little on the expensive side and that it just lacks a little soul.

  • Seamus

There is no system in place to retain your table for people who sit on their own outside and want another drink. No table service, so if you want another drink you have to go inside & it’s likely you will lose your table as - even if you leave a half-full drink on the table - the staff will clear the table if they see nobody there, unless you leave a bag/personal belonging on the seat.

1-Unclean cups 2-There is no queue and a group of girls on the right are thinking about their order and I asked them if I can order before them and they said ok and when I wanted to order the barista did not answer me and after repeating it three times she said I have to serve the girls before you!!! This is disrespectful

Female barista here made a truly perfect cap. Couldn't have been improved upon. Perfect milk texture, milk temperature, the shot was perfect extraction, and the espresso flavor perfectly shined through. Other than that 5-star worthy cap, the shop has a nice vibe and the staff are pretty uniformly cool. Food is tasty too. Nice place to hang or have a meeting.

  • Katie Baldwinson

One of my all time favourites- Great authentic Italian coffee, cakes and sandwiches. Always the best ingredients used. Lively atmosphere, fab well trained staff and the manager/ owner is often in store as he really cares about the place and the quality of the coffee. Plenty of space to sit- one of the few places with decent outside space in the city.

  • Athiphu Praesomboon

On the map it said it's on the bond building but it's actually next to the moose coffee. Lots of interesting bakery, only just tried iced Latte today. Didn't have to wait long at all as there were lots of staffs. Will have to come back and try the bakery as they are look appetizing. Giving it 4 stars for now because I haven't try the bakery yet.

Hands down one of the best coffee shops in Leeds city centre. Not only are the drinks lovely they have plenty of great food/snacks to go with them. I would recommend the pistachio cake, it is delicious! The decor is edgy and hip and the Edison bulbs are a nice touch. It is quaint and welcoming and I always enjoy my visits there.

  • Amanda Beech

Good quality food and decent, though inconsistent, service. Slow to collect coffee as both sit in and takeaway coffee has to be collected from the same spot and there only seems to be one person making coffee at a time. Seats could be more comfortable but the atmosphere is quite nice if not slightly pretentious. Worth a trip.

  • Jonathan Kirk

Coffee was decent. Nice atmosphere and layout within the coffee room. Ive had food from here previously and to be honest I found it underwhelming considering that its trying to position itself as some legitimate italian coffee shop. If you want good food coupled with decent coffee, Id suggest going to Laynes Espresso.

  • Daniel Watson

Some of the best coffee I've ever had: their own espresso roast is always good, the constantly revolving guest coffee is normally a welcome contrast to the dark house roast. The staff are always friendly and with quality food especially the new selection of confectionary is hard to find a nice place to have a coffee.

  • Nick P

Service dropped drastically of late. Wrong orders, forgetting things, staff having to ask several times what you ordered. Not sure they can cope as it becomes more popular. Previous comments: Genuine Italian run coffee shop. Great coffee and good food options. Prefer the bond court one to the one in the light.

  • Sobia Bashir

Fantastic place to stop for a coffee. Lovely, chilled atmosphere. Gorgeous, friendly staff, great selection of pastries, lite bites and piadinas. We practically live here. We buy our coffee beans from here too so we can enjoy the delicious coffee at home. Hands down the best place in the city for a pit stop

  • Amy Deakin

I'm not a coffee drinker, but was reliably informed the coffee was on point. The mini pastries were what got me! Would have preferred the Nutella filled croissant to have been warm, but it was good nevertheless. Outdoor and indoor seating and friendly staff. A good pit stop and friendly, knowledgeable staff

Friendly and speedy service, great tasting coffee. Check out the Milanese hot chocolate, very indulgent! There's a good selection of ciabatta toasties available, along with some fabulous cake options. The high seating is good for working, there is limited standard seating space.

Best coffee in Leeds this indie laid back place also great Panini's and cakes. Cyclists very welcome with track pump and spare tubes available. Staff very simpatico so avoid the faceless coffee conglomerates for LBM's authentic coffee, good food and a place to chill and work in.

  • Chris Hughes

Trendy small chain Italian coffee house. Popular with Italians abroad. Coffee is decent, and the Panini and pastries are very good too. Small tip if getting a hot chocolate, you can either have it typical British style or you can ask for it Italian style, thick and dessert like.

  • Berris Charnley

Had a really nice coffee last week. Single origin, Ethiopian guest beans and very well made. But this week it was terrible; same beans but over extracted, bitter and scalded milk. Put it straight in the bin and went to get another one from a different coffee shop. What a shame.

Amazing coffee, tea and best chai latte! Love the atmosphere and friendly staff. Great food options (mainly sandwiches) but I find them quite greasy. Unfortunately they don't have any homemade cakes, only industrial nutella muffins, chocolates and bitesize sweet pastries.

Someone told me to go here as it is the best coffee they have ever had. Weren’t lying about the quality of the coffee. Service was a bit lacking but was a very busy time during lunch so can’t really blame them. Would recommend for take out, didn’t like the vibes inside.

  • mab158

Service slow. Overpriced for what you get. They frequently give your coffee order away to someone else because the queuing system is chaotic. By the time my sandwich finally came my coffee was stone cold and the sandwich was burnt and dried up. Not much too it either

  • Rui Geng

I went there 9 in the morning to buy “the best Tiramisu in Leeds” before my mum left Leeds but the staff were rude just said “we are not open”. The opening time on google map is 7:30 and I saw the cakes were already prepared in the cupboard. That’s quite upsetting.

Quaint, quality coffee shop in the centre of Leeds whilst feeling like a small independent on the outskirts! Full of lunchtimers, recommend getting there early for a seat! Beautiful coffee though, and also the food selection looks great but I didn't eat.

I buy a flat white from La Bottega every time I work from Leeds. Everyone who works here is polite, efficient, and skilled. The coffee is always perfect and with microfoam like no other locally. I’ve never tried the food but it’s immaculately presented.

  • Private

Love their coffee and pastries! Such a chill atmosphere and staff are very friendly Unfortunately their doughnuts were very disappointing...hardly any filling and for £2.85 a pop you’re better off getting krispy kreme...won’t be buying those again.

Amazing Italian coffee, the coffee is so strong and so tasty. If you need a push or you wanna try some proper amazing coffee, This will be the best option! Their desserts are amazing as well. They also sell their own coffee beans and tools.

Always stop past when visiting Leeds - been a fan since a longtime friend worked there back at the Light! Great coffee, decor, aesthetic, etc. Outdoor seating at Bond Street is great and social distancing measures well implemented! Fab.

Really great panini, Italian deserts and coffee. Great service too. Only criticism would be that all the panini were quite similar - some combination of meat and cheese. Not that I'm veggie, but an option with more veg would be great.

I've been a regular at this place for over five years now, and there hasn't been a single instance where their service has fallen short of exceptional. The staff members are the heart and soul of this establishment, always greeting

This is by far the best coffee in Leeds (in my opinion). If you like a stronger kick to your caffeine fix then this place is for you. I love the industrial fixtures; just wish the seats were comfier. Other than that, just fabulous.

A great independent coffee house. La Bottega have been around in Leeds for a few years now and this is their newest and largest venue. One of my regular lunchtime destinations. A good range of food to go with their fantastic coffee

Lasagna was good I had a totally different idea about what tiramisu looks & tastes like, that one was special! Salad (they typically add vinegar to it, if you don’t like vinegar -like me- tell them not to add it!)

One of the best coffees that I have ever tried! The people are lovely. Is it a busy place

Lovely coffee, good food and atmosphere, slightly away from the hustle of park row. They occasionally have sports/ international events which have been fun in the past. Can get busy but plenty of seating or standing tables.

  • Lisa Eyre

Nice place, good atmosphere and coffee. Seating is stylish and functional rather than comfy but for all that it's a not uncomfortable. Bit chilly if the door is left open :) the food looks great, though I didn't try any

A lovely setting, friendly staff and really tasty food and drinks. Whenever possible I will always choose here over a mainstream coffee shop.

Excellent coffee and a beautiful shop. Service from barista was wonderful. Would have given 5-stars but staff at counter were minimally engaged with customers. Far more interested in their personal conversation …

  • Gemma Scire

My fave coffee shop in Leeds. Can't beat the split shot. Nice to sit out on a warm day, or enjoy the very cool/hip interior. Wonderful cakes or (my favourite) arancine. Lovely, friendly staff and good value for money

  • Matthew Elliston

This place has been a shining light through these difficult times. Staying open to serve amazing coffee and brownie to die for! Great friendly staff! Such an awesome place! My regular go-to when i'm out for a stroll.

They have one of the best flat whites, but the manager is very rude! He told one of my friend to leave his shop just because he poured some water in the toilet by mistake. He was rude, and he said some bad words.

One of the best cafes in Leeds. The cappuccino was delicious. I tried the croissant with almond which was yummy. I had the chance to try Tiramisu and was very delicious. I go there and drink coffee regularly.

Brilliant coffee every time. My favourite place to sit & get a coffee in Leeds. Lots of space to catch up with friends. The toasted sandwiches are amazing, as well as the huge selection of Italian pastries.

  • Haseeb Rehman

When asked by a friend for the best coffee in Leeds there was no doubt in my mind. The best in the business with an assortment of cannoli and other treats to accompany your coffee. Must visit when in town!!

One for the hipsters here, seat are at best uncomfortable, no air conditioning, cakes are dry and overpriced. Staff are lovely. Really needs to pull its socks up and stop serving coffee in lab equipment.

  • Danny S

Great coffee, great cakes and a coffee shop with a great atmosphere. The layout inside is also brilliant, big tables that you share with lots of other people, makes it a nice sociable place to hang out

  • Emma Dawson

This café is an absolute gem. Fantastic coffee and food (in terms of taste and selection), though the highlight for me was their incredible cakes.

A great place for coffee, lunch (great food!) and anything, really. There's even a selection of beers if you feel like it. Always amazing staff and coffee, but there is so so much more than just that!

  • Claire T

I love this place. I tend to sit outside even in the coldest days and watch the world go by. Amazing coffee and delicious cakes. The mini cannoli are good if you want something small with your coffee

  • Helen Minogue

I visited today with my daughter, they don't offer Almond milk !!, We then asked about Gluten Free food, to be told they don't have anything....so don't bother if your Coeliac or dairy intolerant

  • Ana Sofia

Such incredible coffee and the staff are all so friendly and kind. Great cozy spot to enjoy your warm cup with a great sandwich or pastry!

Always a good place to meet and chat business. Plenty of space to sit with your colleagues and other interested parties and plot how you're going to corner the market. High quality coffee too.

Busy Italian coffee store serving great coffee. Food also looks good but didn’t get chance to try it this time…

Really good coffee and a lovely atmosphere in Bond Square when the weather is nice enough to sit outside. This place is a bit of a hidden gem, I can't believe I've only recently found it.
