----UPDATE (4 months after posting)--- I never heard back from Liston Animal Hospital about the experience listed below. I was hoping they had the heart to reach out and briefly discuss, they don't. Reducing to one star. ----- I was trying to reason between one and two stars after deliberating many times. Three stars or above was not my experience with Liston Animal Hospital, thus, I'll try and be reasonable, thus, two stars. The health of my cat declined further, rather quickly, and I visited the Liston Animal Hospital, a final approach/strategy was attempted but it was clear it wasn't helping her. The following day, I tried contacting Liston AH countless times by phone and emailed at least a couple times with the subject header marked URGENT. I sent these, during business hours (around noon) and I DID NOT receive a response until that night at approx. 8pm by Dr Liston simply stating that Dr Cote will get back to me and that their phone lines were down. He didn't offer to help, moreover, I didn't hear from Dr Cote until the NEXT DAY. Their phone lines were down for a WHOLE DAY AAAAND they WERE NOT readily answering emails. This was an emergency! It was a gruelling , horrible day and night. On top of that, the email didn't contain any measures on how they would prevent their lines of communication from failing again or at least a mitigation plan if it does. When an issue arises and you need to follow up with a client, that's an instrumental part of the communication you're delivering, otherwise it shows a lack of professionalism and care. Furthermore, I feel there was a lack of care when Dr Liston didn't provide instructions and help on what I could consider as next steps when he emailed at 8pm that night. It felt more like, 'this is Dr Cote's problem not mine...let her deal with it when she can'. He simply apologized that their system was down and that Dr Cote would get back to me without providing any timeframe. He didn't provide advice or contacts. Subsequently, Dr Cote didn't follow up until the next day; leaving me with no instructions from Dr Liston, and a horrible night trying to soothe and console my baby while waiting for a reply. I could list other grievances I've had, but the above hurt the most, lumped in with the fact that no one sent a condolences email, something so small that can make such a difference in feeling like we were actually cared for instead of feeling like we were dropped because we were no longer economically viable. Thankfully I found another vet the day my cat fell very ill, thankfully the vet I found was willing to do a house call and demonstrated the care I was looking for. They provided true compassion and followed up with me to see how I was doing, I CANNOT say the same for Liston Animal Hospital. Shame on them.

I have to say, likely the best vet I've ever taken my dog to. We used to live in Kanata and took our dog to Liston, but then we moved to Greely and started taking her to another vet in the area. In October, our 9 year old lab tore her ACL and miniscus in her knee and needed TPLO surgery. The estimate at our new clinic near Greely was $4,300 to $4,800. I called around both on the Ontario side and Quebec side for estimates...even in the U.S. Nothing much better. In the Ottawa area, there are only 2 travelling surgeons who do this kind of surgery and their prices are the same wherever they perform the procedure. The only differences in cost among clinics is all the other stuff, such as anesthetics, meds, materials, cost to keep for half day, etc. Most clinics grossly overcharge for these fees due to overhead or cost of operating large clinics or chains. Not Liston. They had BY FAR the best estimate around...I'm talking almost one thousand dollar difference. Shame on all the other clinics for milking vulnerable pet owners. The care provide for our dog at Liston was top notch. They helped me carry her out into the van when I picked her up as she was still dazed under the meds. All of info and care was given. I felt like they really cared about her. While it's a far drive for us to get there, I will definitely be going back for any future care my dog may need. Thank you so much for taking such good care of our dog and for providing reasonable prices that allowed us to be able to afford this surgery!!

I've brought my cats here a few times, and I certainly believe they received better care from the team at Liston than they have ever gotten from other vets, including "animal hospitals in Kanata" . The prices they charge are actually reasonable and affordable, but further to that, their service and compassion are remarkable. Our last visit was to say goodbye to our 15-year-old orange cat, Bender, who was unlike any of the other cats I've ever known, but who was suffering from kidney failure. The staff had bedside manners like we don't see in our hospitals. Dr. Liston has a place on his own property where he buries our loved ones and then has trees planted over each grave to mark them. It's so sweet and reassuring. The compassion... they gave us a vial with Bender's fur in it, and took his paw prints. I'm a 42 year old man here, crying as I write this. We had 4 cats, collected the whole set, but as time passes, so do they. I have one cat left, and we would not think of taking her anywhere else if she told us that she needed help. Dr Liston, if it we weren't in a pandemic, I would have hugged you... your thoughtfulness, patience, and honesty were like a rock to us in our time of doubt and sorrow. Thank you for giving us those few extra minutes with our little boy, and for staying close to support us, before and after. This Practice is beyond professional, and we'll recommend them eternally. I've just consulted with Dr.Andrea Leask for my dog who has some problem with his left hind leg. She was so gentle and kind with my dog, explained fully about the problem. In addition, she gave very detailed written message for me to understand fully what she said with more information of online site. ( I needed this kind of consideration because I am a foreigner who still struggling with english in some occasion like this.) I used to go to another vet nearby, that they seemed to overcharge and explained too little. So i've tried Liston second times that the other one was for heartwarm test and medication to prevent, and all expenses were very reasonable while the previous vet would charge double without options of medication brand or something else. At Liston, a doctor gave me two options of blood test so i chose just what i expected and i could also choose medicaion brand which i already got informs of it with very reasonable price. ( It was just about 5$ over than at USA online retailer.) So if you're looking for a good vet in Kanata, I recommand you to try here for sure. I am so happy to find the good vet for my dog.

I've been taking my (late) pug, my Frenchie, and both cats to the Liston Animal Hospital for years. The vets (I think I've seen them all over the years) are all very knowledgeable and caring. When a pet has had a chronic illness or needed extended continuing care, they have been great about follow up and about recommending different treatments and laying out both costs and benefits/drawbacks of each. Since I usually double up appointments so I can bring in multiple pets, they frequently give me a discount. Also, when my cat needed an internal mass checked every other week, they would fit me in between appointments and not charge me for the 3 minute check up. On my pug's last day, they were very sympathetic laying out the possible causes and their (not very good) prognosis. I felt like they helped me do all I could for him before making the difficult decision to say good bye. 10/10 would recommend this vet.

Will never ever go back again. They do no care about your animals well being. This was my main vet for my Great Danes life until I found out Dr. Liston personally lied to me and my family stating there was nothing we can do for him when he was diagnosed at an early age with water in his lungs and had arrhythmia. Many years later at the end of his life I found out from Alta Vista Animal hospital that this was simply not true and there are medications he could've been on this whole time. Before going to Alta Vista Animal hospital I tried getting to see my dog as it was a life or death situation and they could not have cared less and has no remorse. Please do yourself the favor and do not go here even if it may be cheaper your gambling with your furbaby's life.

If you were someone like me who visited this clinic a year and a bit ago and felt like there was a lack of professionalism, I would highly recommend you try again. This clinic is under new management now, and it is night and day in the quality of service we received. Dr. Blackburn is exceptional, and I felt like our dog was in good hands when we brought him in for a tooth extraction. The price was reasonable, we were well informed of what we should expect during and after the procedure. Following the procedure when we were unsure if he was recovering at a good rate, the tech made time for us and was very helpful in easing our concerns. Our pup is doing great, and we will continue to visit this vet in the future.

Dr. Liston is a very good rabbit savvy vet! I got my rabbit spayed here and she pulled through and was doing okay when she came back home. During the pre-surgical exam, he handled her very well, just the right amount of gentle and firm. He wasn't rough with her, but also firm enough that she didn't get anxious. You can tell Dr. Liston really loves animals and he even called my rabbit by her name (everyone in the clinic did). The anesthetic they use is safe for rabbits and you can tell that Dr. Liston has a lot of experience. Not only is the care really great, but the price is also very affordable! If you are looking for an affordable vet who is great with rabbits, look no further! I definitely recommend.

My wife Louise and I want to thank the entire staff of the Liston Animal Hospital for caring for Maisey over the six plus years that we had her. She always received the best of care from everyone. During her last year Maisey became ill with pancreatitis and liver problems which could not be resolved. She was a brave little girl but sadly she had to be put down. We want to thank Dr. Liston and staff for everything they did for her. We also greatly appreciated the beautiful card and the various messages from the staff. I have been bringing my dog Bella there for many years. Everything was fine until a couple weeks ago. They do not accept mask exemption. Ok I get it. People are scared of covid aka the flu aka bad cold. But what really set me off was when The receptionist Said I have to be double vaccinated To enter their building. Disgusting human rights violation That scientifically has nothing to do with public health or safety. I have not been back and I have transfered my dogs file to a vet with proper morales values and ethics. Its a shame how scared and brainwashed society has become. Disgusting actually.

I love this clinic. It is in Kanata, so a bit of a hike from our place in Orleans but it is absolutely worth the drive for us. The receptionists are friendly and always quick to return calls and follow up. Dr Maya Popovich is excellent and I highly recommend her to anyone with small animals especially. She has treated several of my rats and I felt confident that my rats were receiving the best care possible. She is very compassionate and caring as well ie in a euthanasia situation. The prices here are very reasonable compared to other vets. Great place!

Use to use the Kanata Animal Hospital, but it was bought out a Toronto Consortium and the prices and services were being pushed. A friend recommended Liston and he was great. Used his experience to diagnose problems rather that the 'let's get an MRI, to be sure approach'. They were over-swamped one weekend and refereed us to another Hospital, but, they followed up with a phone call the start of business Monday. All Vet's change. The comment by Graeme Thomson was foolish, 'leave the country to get a better price'. What world does that kid live in.

I have great appreciation for the Liston Animal Hospital and their caring veterinary team. Over the years, I've brought in 11 different animals, spanning 3 different species. The veterinarians and staff are always so empathetic, knowledgeable, and helpful. They do book up quickly, but I have never felt that my pets were left uncared for and they are always willing to refer me to alternative resources and clinics if one of my pets needs more urgent care than they can provide. I hope to continue bringing my pets to the LAH for years to come.

I feel so blessed to have found Dr. Liston and his amazing team. My senior high maintenance dog and I have been seeing Dr. Liston for quite some time. They are always helpful, friendly, patient, and professional. Their pricing is more than fair and it is clear that Dr. Liston and his staff love their work. Great care; just sublime. (Still no visitors allowed inside, but if you arrive early without access to a/c, they will often take your pets inside to keep them safe) Dr. Liston has been my vet since I moved to Ottawa. Spayed my rabbit, saved Shadowfax’s quality of life with bimonthly appointments for 5 months until she passed, and so much more. Just today he fit in an emergent appointment for my girl Inara - I cannot in words express how grateful I am to the clinic and their staff. I have never had a bad experience.

I took my cat in to have a lump checked out. Dr. Liston wasn't in that day, but the vet subbing for him was wonderful, and the consultation fee was reasonable. They also have a wonderful office cat to greet you. The surgery to remove the lump went smoothly, and was very reasonably priced. The vet who gave me the discharge instructions was very friendly. My only complaint is that I had to wait 3 stressful weeks for the surgery; the lump kept on bleeding so my cat had to wear a vest for that entire time.

It’s unfortunate but we lost our Buddy two years ago and our Shasta last week. I would like to say a BIG thank you to Dr Liston, Dr Levesque and Dr Beattie and the wonderful staff at Liston Animal Hospital for all the tender care you have given to our pups over the years and for your understanding and care you’ve given to me and my family. Hopefully someday we will have another pup to share our love with and we’ll be returning to the Liston Animal Hospital for our veterinary care.

If you are looking for a Vet that doesn't charge you for every little thing, and yet still offers good support and knows what they are doing, then this is the vet to go to. They also have very fair prices, compared to other Vets. The level of care and support from all the staff, is above and beyond what you expect from a Vet. I'm able to reach my vet when the office is not open, and get needed advice. Very down to earth, and it's like a big family the vet. Highly recommended!

When I moved to Ottawa I interviewed 5 vets and Dr Liston was far and away the best. He has a very practical approach to medicine and doesn't push for a unecessary tests or medicines. I have seen other vets at this practice and they are all good. Uo to date on the latest treatments, caring and thorough exams, all questions answered and reasonable prices. I drive 30 minutes across town to go here. There are lots of closer vets but none nearly as good!

My dog is nearly 7 and has been at Liston since he was 1, I was at Kanata Animal Hospital before but didn't like the experience. Dr. Liston is wonderful and I completely trust what he says, and he never tries to oversell or get you to get something or some test you don't need...just the opposite, I find he's trying to help me save money if he can! I moved from Kanata 3 years ago but still make the drive so I can take my dog there. Great practice.

Very affordable for a vet and we are very grateful to have found them. No unnecessary or expensive procedures or products pushed onto you. They have always been able to take us for emergencies on the same day and never charge extra. They also seem to care a lot about the animal and the owner compared to other vets and I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. Highest recommendation to Liston Animal Hospital for everything they do.

Dr Liston is the best vet that I have ever brought my old girl too. ~15 years ago, when he was working at Kanata animal hospital I knew the receptionist who recommended Dr Liston. When Dr Liston left Kanata animal hospital I was sad and disappointed at the vets the that I saw after he left. When I heard he created his own practice, I switched immediately even though I have long since moved out of the area. I highly recommend Dr Liston.

Dr. Liston runs an excellent vet clinic. When I take my little old dog in, Dr. Liston or his other wonderful vets give their very best care. His vet team works very well together and they are kind, caring, knowledgable and very helpful. I've had several emergencies, where they have given me immediate help with my little dog. I wouldn't trust any one else with my little dog in Ottawa! Woof woof to Dr. Liston and his team! :)

Where is the Humanitarian role they are acting with , they requested to have money in advance before the consultation do you think this humanity? Of course not We arw not escaping from paying at least help to recover these little soul's and then ask for the money In business , you cant ask for advance payment for service not accomplished, knowing that there were no sign mentioning we need to pay in advance or anything

Fantastic, knowledgeable staff. Compassionate. They don't charge you for unnecessary extras. Plans of care include different price options so you can make a decision based on the care of your pet as well as what you can afford. You also know how great a vet is based on how long the staff sticks around. Dr. Liston has had many of the same techs for years. They are an amazing team. I highly recommend this vet.

Just got back from the vet they did not have my appointment that I booked 3 weeks ago. I did not get to see doctor Liston who's the one I usually go to see he is an amazing vet.. The front receptionist is not friendly she looks like she hates her job, Never smiles . yes I'm happy that they fit me in they took my dog in the back for a nail clipping and I can hear him screaming. Not sure that going back .

AMAZING vet. I live downtown but I am more than happy to make the drive to Kanata to go to this wonderful facility. One time, we had to get a Bordatella shot at the last minute so we went to another vet close by. Wow, it really made me see how good we have it at Liston. The vets are all kind, courteous and Rebecca at the front desk is great, too. Our dog Whiskey will never go to another vet! :)

Have been going to doctor Liston for a couple years now since being referred to his clinic after we had poor service elsewhere. We can say that we have been happy every time we’ve visited. Never are we pushed on non essential services but rather given time and explained pros and cons of options without any sales pressure. We will be continuing to go to the Liston animal for years to come.

I love Liston Animal Hospital. I always deal with Dr. Steve Liston and he is absolutely lovely. Not only does he care about the animals but he also works with your budget very closely as vet bills are not cheap. Shows they aren't just in it for the money. As well I don't have a car and I have to Uber to him and he is worth every penny! Highly recommend this animal hospital!

Absolutely amazing staff. All the veterinarians have so much experience with all kinds of animals and different diagnoses. This is the only place I would bring my 3 dogs. Dr.Blackburn and her assistant are amazing. Took me earlyer then my appointement whit my 2 Dogs cause they could do it even if i was ok to wait, gave them lots of treats, gave extra care to make sure we are going home worry free. Took time to teach me some stuff cause its my first dog. Cheaper then i expected. They will see us again when needed for sure! Worth the drive.

Price was good. Care was good. Vet was great. I’m giving 2 stars because their aftercare follow up is horrible. The vet told me that I would be given 2 calls after leaving with my cat being on a new med and I was not called to be checked up on once. I have called two times to let them know that the medication is no longer working and have yet to hear back. Disappointing.

Dr Liston and his staff are without comparison in there field. Absolute professionalism, compassion, empathy and understanding for over twenty years as our veterinarian. The one star reviews are obviously foolish and from the pettiest society has to offer. Especially suspect is the fact that one of the reviews are from a worker of another animal hospital in Prescott.

i have a big rotweiler who does not let anyone touch him. he needs to be insulated to receive any type of shot. I told them weeks ahead that they would need do this before confirming the appointment , they told me it is confirmed. Upon arrival when I came they come outside with a syringe... this was unbelievable and extremely unprofessional. I walked away right away.

Dr. Liston has a compassionate heart and provides exceptional care and professional guidance. My three dogs were truly members of my family and Dr. Liston and his staff always provided them with the most wonderful care during the years that I was lucky to have had them. I would recommend, in a heartbeat, Dr. Liston to anyone looking for an awesome veterinarian.

I've typically had great experiences with Dr. Liston and the regular staff but have to warn others that my experience today with his, hopefully temporary, replacement for Dr. Levesque was nothing less than horrific. In reading other reviews Dr.Liston, maybe you need to be more careful in the subs you choose before they destroy your excellent reputation!!!!!!

My family and I have been going to Dr Liston for over 15 years. I continued to bring my there pets and fosters after his retirement and loved the new doctors, but their receptionists' judgmental comments and attitude has forced me to take my business elsewhere, over an hour away where my pets and I are always treated like royalty rather than a burden.

This is a fantastic veterinary clinic (and I have been to many in the ottawa area....), I’ve brought dogs and cats there, they have all the time in the world for you, they don’t offer any extra services OR medications that you don’t need, and they offer alternatives if you aren’t comfortable or can’t afford the options that they suggest.

When I adopts a cat, two friends they both recommended this vet clinic. My little kid got a very good take care of there. They take insurance form and do claim for me, they will also give hints on raising my pet, like where to boarding my pet while on vacation. I definitely recommend this place when you need a vet @ west zone of Ottawa.

I've had animals my entire life and out of the various vets that I've had, I would recommend Liston to anyone and everyone. Amazing prices and he's kind and considerate. He calls my pets by their names and recommends treatments that he would choose if they were his own. Top tier vet especially for small animals such as rats!

Great vets reasonably priced. They truly care about the animals. They also don't try and push unnecessary medications. Highly recommend them. They take their time with my dogs and understand if they are nervous and don't force the exam on my dogs till they are calmed down. Will not be leaving them any time soon

We saw Dr. Liston for many years and really liked him. After he retired, we saw another vet at the clinic. She wasn’t very welcoming, and didn’t seem to like to discuss options. The office manager also isn't great with returning calls, and we were overcharged for meds. We won’t be returning to the clinic.

The best veterinary office in the city hands down. Customer for years now. You can trust your furry friend is in excellent care here. Was going to switch to a vet closer to my home but quickly realized all vets and animal hospitals are not equal so I will be staying with Liston Animal Hospital. Dr. Blackburn took the time to discuss my dog’s illness, discussed options for treatment and showed that she cares for my dog’s wellbeing.

All the doctors and vet techs are super kind, friendly and patient. Dr. Beattie was particularly loving and kind when my Mom's elderly cat had to go over the rainbow last Christmas. I've brought my cat, my new puppy and my Mom's new kitten here and have always been happy with the staff and service.

Dr.Blackburn diagnosed my dog with bladder cancer, but it turned out to be a bacterial infection. Multiple messages left with the front desk went unreturned. Took 1 week of calling to finally get results of urine test that showed the infection. Poor communication lead to unnecessary stress.

These guys are awesome, they go above and beyond to provide best services for pets and owners even during these tough times. Dr.Liston came outside to greet us, explained everything that was going to happen for our little dog. Was done in 5 mins and the price for services was excellent.

We have been with Dr Liston over 10 years. He was a fantastic. Never had any issue at all until the new receptionist joined to the clinic. She has an attitude. Not friendly at all. I was going to stay with the clinic even after Dr Liston retired. But it’s time to move to other clinic.

Recommended to us years ago by a trusted friend for good quality and good value. We lived downtown at the time and drove all the way out to Kanata to see them. We get our cat food from them now. They are active and social distancing and our loyalty is well placed (we live closer now).

Our little pet required an operating procedure. I had read many positive comments about The Liston Animal Hospital, so we decided to place our pet in their care. Dr. Liston and staff were very pleasant, and took very good care of our pet. I highly recommend this Animal Hospital.

Vet was wonderful but receptionist (redhead) was a total witch. Completely rude, condescending and dismissive. Customer service may not have been best career choice. Other receptionist was very nice. I will never bring any of my animals to this vet while she is working there.

Unbelievable help from the staff who work at this animal hospital. They took care of all my needs for my dog. My dog was well taken care of with love and compassion. Beau was a happy puppy after his visit. Thanks to the staff for your hard work through these difficult times.

Just came back from a late visit to the Liston Animal Hospital. Dr. Liston was at the end of a 12+ day and seemed exhausted. Still, he was unfailingly pleasant and professional and kind to my dog. The staff were super, too. A+ Hang in there and keep up the good work!

Dr. Liston is unbelievably wonderful. Once this pandemic ends, I will be switching vets immediately. He was kind and gracious and did not up sell or encourage any unnecessary procedures when we ran into any issue with my dog. I look forward to seeing him again soon.

We saw Dr. Liston when he worked at the Kanata Animal Hospital back in the 1990's. We loved him so much that we followed him when he opened his own practice. Dr. Liston is an amazing vet, very caring, honest and truly the best. All the staff are wonderful as well.

Very caring. They don't push you to get shots for your pets (which they don't need once they've had the boosters). They even called to see how my cat was doing after I brought him in when he wasn't feeling well, but wasn't sick enough to really need a blood test.

After checking quite a few different vet clinics we are glad we found this hospital. Very professional and friendly doctors. They do love animals and never prescribe or suggest unnecessary treatments. True professionals whom you can trust. Definitely recommended!

Was turned away after a referral from a family friend. Liston is not taking any pets at this time as per the receptionist. We were looking for a simple neutering for our young cat, but reception wouldn't take our name or offer a waiting list or anything.

I'm a client of this clinic for more than eight years. Every time my pets need a help I get an appointment and qualified consultation. The owner, Dr. Liston, is always willing to help, even during his overtime hours. I'm highly recommending this clinic!

The staff here are the best. They have taken such great care of our family. They never push unnecessary procedures and genuinely care about their patients. I can’t say enough how kind they have been to our family.

Went here to have my dog neutered on a recommendation from a neighbour but was disappointed. Didn't find the staff friendly, services were overpriced and my pup was not returned with his collar. Won't be back.

Excellent vet, was very honest with me and didnt charge me for the exam fee for my dying rat. Was very gentle with the euthinasia and made the process as easy as possible for both me and my dear Romulus.

A truly caring place to visit and not at a huge cost. If you have rats, this is the only place I have found that doesn't charge an exotic pet fee! It has been a lifesaver for my rat with a chronic URI.

Dr Liston came highly recommended, and I was not disappointed. I’m not sure how this clinic compares to others price-wise, but it did not seem overly expensive. Glad we found a great ver for the pup!

Not the same service that it once was. Having invested $2k+ in tests, underlying condition was missed and my dog almost perished as a result. Gross negligence. I cannot recommend this veterinarian.

Dr. Liston and his team take the absolute best care of our pups. Their dedication and genuine concern is evident and even the pups don't hesitate to trot in the front door, tails wagging.

Decent service but overpriced, as with all Ontario Vets, go to the US for cheap/quality service. Paid $100+ for a vet to check my dogs ears for 5 minutes. Will never come back here again.

extremely rude receptionist Loralee, on the phone and in person ... she should be fired with an attitude as such ... I'm sure this vet is loosing customers just on the receptionist alone
