I’m leaving this review from the point of view of what’s best for my pet and her needs, as I think there are many pets and owners that would be absolutely satisfied with this vet, but one size does not fit all. This clinic is busy— that’s great! Lots of clients in a capitalist society is a good thing. I understand when it’s busy and staff is worked hard that things fall through the cracks. I’m going to chalk up the fact that I feel I had been left waiting for quite a while on a few occasions (to pick up/check out) to the general level of work that was going on. Dr. Katz was always very thorough with my cat, and she was always able to be dropped off for urgent care, for which I am very grateful. She was incredibly communicative and had thorough follow-up calls and e-mails with me. It is a very dog-heavy clinic. There are a lot of dogs that go to this vet with varying levels of training/self-regulation (read: may be howling, barking, pulling, jumping). In the intimate waiting room there’s a decent chance you’ll interact with some pups. From the point of view of a sensitive and anxious cat, it may not be the best fit, hence my rating. The care is great, the environment can be stressful. This review is maybe not for everyone; if your pet does well in a busy environment and is not time-sensitive, I would absolutely recommend.
I really loved coming to this clinic. When all other clinics were busy they took Levi in, reviewed his history and came up with a treatment plan. Came back again, but Levi had a new veterinarian this time. Pretended like she knew Levi when she'd never seen him before? I gave an update on his seizures, the responds I got was "that's good" (not sure if she heard me correctly?). Told them about his eye problem was told not to worry about it (no exam was done on his eye) and now the problem is back. I'm also not sure if having a toy box is a good idea... with other dogs chewing on toys that may be sick and then other dogs coming in to chew on the same toys? That being said they are kind. I'm able to email them, attach pictures, call them and they respond kindly. I just wish Levi had the same veterinarian as before.
My adopted cat Zico has special needs due to extreme reaction to being around other pets; the folks here have gone out of their way to arrange so we can bring him at a time when he can go right to the exam room or operating room and back without any period in the waiting room around other animals. They are very thorough in their diagnostic work and in a dental cleaning and extraction Zico needed when he was adopted. They have a good supply of foods for special diets and of prescription meds. They are a big enough practice to be able to make timely appointments and small enough for lots of personal attention including follow-up e-mail exchanges. The parking area shared with adjoining businesses requires a little adaptation at times but I've never had a real issue with it.
DR. BARRY KATZ is one of the most professional, trustworthy and incredible veterinarians you will ever meet. When our dog Reuben was in severe pain and none of the specialists at the Kirkland SVS could figure it out (after we spent $7000 for tests, etc. - no less!!) - Dr. Katz was simply amazing and was able to determine that our dog had cancer in the spine. Even though it was very bad news, Dr. Katz really solved the mystery for us and was extremely compassionate. He is now the only vet we trust in Seattle....we will not go to anyone else unless his office is closed and we are desperate. Do your self a favor, if you love your pet, go see Dr. Katz. He will never recommend something that your pet doesn't need and is very quick to help you and your pet in times of need.
They were recommended to me as great doctors, but when I called looking for a new vet explaining about my rescued old dog not being well, and has some warning signs, I received the answer they cannot accept us. This is a HUGE RED FLAG for me re. caring and compassion. I found another vet who accepted us almost same day because of condition of the dog. Madison Park called me in about a month later. What a joke. Never will be considering this clinic. Enough for me to see lack of compassion. Actually, I am happy after reading other reviews on Yelp. They recommend Royal as a quality food. WOW. Would never trust a vet recommending junk commercial food like Royal or Hill's Prescription. Clearly, serious lack of nutrition knowledge.
We travel over 1.5 hours to take our animals to Dr. Byrd. She has cared for our pets for almost 10 years and I only wish I had followed half her advice! Dr. Byrd used to practice near us but over the years moved around the Seattle area until she finally started her own practice in Madison Park. We tried a few other vets over the years but not a single one of them had the skills and passion that she ALWAYS brought to bear on our pets. She has seen the very best and the very worst of this industry and has managed to come through the years with her dedicaton to the animals intact. So many of the other vets we tried were doing it for the money. Dr. Byrd is truly amazing and a is real gift to Seattle.
I would give them 10 starts if I could. Both Dr. Barry and Jenya Katz and their staff are wonderful, compassionate people. They are worth the drive from the Eastside to Madison Park. They were there for our two senior dogs the last few years of their lives. They approached their care conservatively and didn't push expensive procedures. We recently had to put our last dog to sleep, they were very patient with us, giving us the time to say our good byes and not pushing us out the door. When we left, I noticed that they had candles going as a remembrance of our dog. When it is time to let another pet into our lives, we will definitely go back.
I took my dog out to the bathroom and noticed a concerning amount of blood in her urine. I was so worried, I called her previous vet & many nearby hospitals no one could fit her in. I drove to Madison Park Vet, a veterinarian was out front speaking to a different client. After, she stopped and asked how she could help me & agreed to see my dog. It was obvious they were extremely busy and could have easily turned me away. They extended themselves to us and showed a level of compassion that is rare, I will never take my dog anywhere else. It is obvious they run their business with a lot of heart and care. Thank you so much Madison Park Vet!
Pros: good location, availability, tech staff. Cons: dated, non-physician staff felt stretched thin. Overall I had a pretty good experience here, better than our previous practice. Ultimately though I have to take a star off since our dog developed problematic tartar under their care. I brought it up repeatedly over the years but was dismissed due to his age. He is now in need of procedural treatment to address it a year later under another vet's care. That's on me yet I wish we got more guidance and a proactive plan despite our dog's youth and good general health. They gave us some dental treats and said it should be enough.
The least compassionate receptionists I've ever dealt with. Called to schedule an appointment for my cat's possible ear infection, they told me since I was a new patient I had to schedule online. I completed the forms online and had to painfully wait for a response on a date to bring my cat in. Days later I finally heard back from them about a possible date, tried to confirm and never heard back! Called in because my cat was really feeling discomfort and the receptionist said she could get us in maybe 2-3 weeks later. Save your time and take your pets to Madison St Animal Hospital instead.
When I say that I would never trust anyone else with our two dogs, I mean it. This entire team goes above and beyond on every visit (boarding or otherwise), and they treat our boys like their own. Dr. Barry Katz and Dr. Jenya Katz are two of the most compassionate, informative, understanding, and skilled veterinarians that I have ever met. I drive from a different side of the city, just to come to Madison Park for veterinary care and boarding. If you're looking for a place for your pets to be cared for, loved, and to receive the very best services - Madison Park is the place for you.
Wonderful and knowledgeable staff. I had to take my dog in for a scary diagnosis and surgery (mast cell tumor in the paw) and they made me and my dog feel very cared for. You're in good hands here. Update: Still the best vet office in town. I recently lost my dear kitty Aries, (a far different outcome from my original review) but I felt the entire team was so empathetic and helpful throughout the entire process. Even though it wasn't the best outcome, I knew they did everything they could while still respecting my financial realities. Cannot recommend them enough.
I arrived ~10mins late due to traffic and they kept me waiting for another 15mins and told me that they were short of staff and had to move my appointment. The staff is very unprofessional and rude. They also lied about trying to contact me when I was standing right in front of them. I’d been trying to schedule an appointment for near one month. They kept canceling the appointment at last minute after we set a time. They are clearly pushing away existing patients. Don’t bother wasting time here. Just find another vet.
To say they went above and beyond my hopes and expectations would be selling the staff of Madison Park short because they made room for our family pet during a time of crisis and uncertainty on a major holiday week at the last possible moment. We are thankful they were here for us in our time of emergency and recommend them to anyone with a fur family member in need or want of great service. We are truly grateful for their time and compassion! Thank you once again for helping Bella when she needed it. Happy Holidays!
I've been taking my puppy Penny to Madison Park Veterinary Hospital for the last year and can't say enough good things about them. I purchased the puppy package which covered all puppy check ups, vaccinations and a discount on her spay. Seemed like a great deal in my opinion! I was nervous about the spay but the staff, especially Jessica made me feel comfortable and Penny recovered great because they prepared us well to go home. Looking forward to coming back for many years to come!
The staff here are amazing. I have moved to WS but will continue to bring my dog here. They know him and understand his needs (and mine). My dog is special needs and they have taken time to listen to his history of ups and downs at other offices to make appropriate procedural changes for him in their office. They even took turns after today's procedure of dental extractions to hold him like a baby because that's how he feels most secure. Thank you so much Madison Park staff!!
Took such great care of my kitten ! They clearly love animals here. Because of COVID I did not go back with my little girl, but when she came back she was still her normal sweet self ! I had been so nervous as to how she would respond. They really did a great job keeping her calm after microchipping and drawing blood! Then Dr Katz came out and gave me an overview of my cats health and answered all my questions . Friendly and thorough. I will definitely keep coming here !
In 2009, I first took my cat to Madison Park Vet because she required a health certificate to fly. She got more than a check up stating that she was physically functional; she was treated for her holistic wellness. The doctor provided an herbal sedative that was tasty and helped calm my cat before her flight, it was an unexpected dimension to animal care. Since then Dr Katz has been caring for Boo and he and his team have outstanding expertise.
How often does a dog rush into a vet's clinic? I picked up our dog from a scheduled appointment and walked him a bit. As we were walking past the clinic's door, he jumped towards the door and begged to get in. Drs Jenya and Barry Katz are not only excellent doctors, but the staff obviously cares so much for their furry patients that they want to be back. Highly recommended and for us, worth the drive from Eastside. They are that good.
Madison Park Veterinary Hospital is outstanding in every way. Drs Katz (both!) and Valenta take wonderful care of our pooch, from standard care to out of the ordinary. The techs and front desk team are wonderful. Friday, our dog, LOVES going to MPVH. His tail wags every time. Thoughtful, caring, professional and considerate - we appreciate the TLC they provide to Friday (and our family, when worried about him!). Thank you, MPVH!
Dr. Katz is amazing! He takes such good care of my dogs and seems to actually be concerned about whether they are doing well or not. I live in north seattle and make the journey down to Madison Park any time we need to go to the vet. Everyone there is so nice. I work at a medical insurance company for pets and I've been to lots of vets, but the search was over when I found Dr. Katz and Madison Park Veterinary!
There are no words to describe the amount of love and support that I’ve received for my dog Riley. I brought him in for an emergency evaluation and was diagnosed with pneumonia and a tumor attached to his spleen. After surgery and great care, my 13 year old dog is like a puppy again. The care and regular reports from Dr Katz was second to none. Truly the best experience I have ever had with a vet!!
Lovely place for pet care. Everyone is very nice and kind. I see Dr. Katz, she has helped me very much with my previous kitties who were ailing and aging, and helped end my boy cat's suffering with a gentle hand. I have new kittens now, and I felt confident bringing them to her. They are great with dogs too! I see many happy customers with their pups in the waiting room.
As a puppy owner new to the area, I was very impressed with the kindness and service-focused staff consistency. I had two neighbors independently recommend them and was so grateful that we established a relationship. My pup developed a hot spot after a romp in the Lake; the team got us in quickly and took care of it with knowledge and precision. Happily on the mend now!
My puppy had an infection pop up on his stomach out of the blue and nobody could see him for a timely appointment until I called these guys! They squeezed him in same day and were the absolute best. My puppy is not a big van of the vet's office at all but they won him over with sooo many treats and cuddles. I cannot say a big enough thank you to this group!!
My corgi has become a mature lady now at 9 years old. The staff at Madison Park Veterinary Hospital have taken wonderful care of her when she gets too rambunctious and tweaks her back. They find time for her, and are thorough and professional and explain everything so I can understand. I appreciate their vaccination reminders. Thank you so much!
I was moving to the UK with my cat, so I need to find a vet that is USDA certified to issue an international health certificate. The doctors at Madison Park are very familiar and knowledgeable with this process, and I was able to register my pet as a new patient, do the health exam, and obtain the certificate within one appointment.
The staff here are angels. I switched to this vet as my 19 year old cat was declining with kidney failure. I wish I'd come here sooner. Dr Lynn is amazing. They helped me care for him in his last days with so much care and empathy. They went above and beyond, making a very hard experience so much easier. Thank you MPVH <3
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Jenya and Madison Park Vet. My dog needed a second opinion and we were adequately taken care of and received the best care and attention with his needs addressed. I came here looking for the best options to provide my dog his best care which is what I’m receiving.
Rebecca and Ariel are the first to greet you. They are always so helpful and pleasant. They really set the stage for the rest of the visit and that has always been excellent care. Thank You for serving your community with such high standards. It’s very much appreciated.
Drs. Barry Katz, DVM, Jenya Katz, DVM, & their staff blew me away with their EXCEEDINGLY WONDERFUL and loving care of my dog the past few days. BOWWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! I only wish is that your hours extended to all-day Sat. & Sun. when my pet often needs assistance.
My dog Taffy had cluster seizures required immediate intervention. Called couple urgent care we got turned away because they were at capacity. We drove around town trying to look for pet urgent care. Madison Park Veterinary Hospital was on
They were so great to my pup! They are very busy (like every vet in the area) but I never felt like it affected our care. They were always responsive and I felt like they truly cared for my dog. Highly recommend if you live in the area!
I continue to feel so lucky to have my dogs under Jenya Katz’ care. She helped us with compassion thru the medical and hospice care of my dear dear IWS. Then with subsequent rescue adoptees who are another uncommon breed, she has
Love these people, the vets, the front desk and all the staff. More importantly my pups have ALL loved them as well. Since switching to mad park vets thirty years ago, my pups have Never been afraid of going to the vets.
Such wonderful people here. They took care of my dog's ear infection and advised me on each option and the costs. We decided on the least expensive option, and cured my doggie at the same time. I trust them.
The Veterinarians and team at Madison Park Veterinary Hospital are simply great and wonderful people. You cannot go wrong taking your non-human family member to their clinic. George gives them four paws up!
LOVE the vet and staff at Madison Park Veterinary!!!! They have been so fantastic with my cat and new dog. If you are looking for a new vet in or around Madison Park I highly recommend thanks Dave
Dr Natalie was so great with our pup. He can get pretty scared at the vet, but she was great at helping him get through the appointment with minimal stress. We're thankful to have her as our vet!
Dr. Katz and team are the absolute best! Incredible compassionate, competent and comprehensive care at the highest levels! Thanks for caring for our pets and for you fantastic surgical skills!
My terrier is named after their veterinary practice. This should be a good indicator of the service and LOVE that my pets receive from the amazing professionals and staff. LOVE YOU!
Good care for our pups but the office is woefully understaffed right now. I feel bad for the folks at the front desk and it’s definitely visible in the quality of service.
We drive from West Seattle to come here - absolutely love it and wouldn't go anywhere else! They are kind and caring and have taken care of our dog so well for 2 years.
the best of the best I love this vet clinic So very helpful with our three older dogs.. very supportive with our new puppy . Thank you for being there for us pet owners
Love Madison Park Veterinary Hospital and my dog does too. She’s always very excited to visit, even when they have to do some not fun stuff like give her a vaccine.
Madison Park Vet is great! The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. The wait times are always reasonable, and they take very good care of our pets.
Thank you for taking care of our special little guy. We will never forget your kindness and compassion for him (and us) during such a difficult time.

They take great care of our kittens and are very careful about social distancing during Covid, which I appreciate a lot.
