This was the absolute WORST experience, from start to finish. If I could give Martika 0 stars, I would. First of all, when I initially called the business to ask if she could braids my son’s hair, she approved the braids based on the video I sent her. She sent me the link to book the appt, which I did. I verified with her through text messages to her personal phone. This was supposed to be a birthday present to my son. The night before the appt, she cancelled at 11:30 pm, and the automatic message sent to me stated I had not given the non-refundable “security deposit”. I was not aware of this. When I messaged her to ask, she told me she had texted me and sent me screenshots of the texts asking for the deposit. I never received those texts and when I looked at the screenshots, I saw that the messages were sent to the wrong phone number. I let her know that I never received the security deposit message, and immediately went online to pay the fees and sent her proof that I did. Martika then informed me that she had to move my time down from noon to 12:45 as she “had another appt”. I let her know that my son had his birthday party in the afternoon and that the timing would be tight for us. She didn’t care about that at all and seeing as it was my son’s birthday and he wanted the braids done, we took the time. As soon as I left my house for the appt, I get another automated messaged from Martina’s salon stating that the time has been moved even further down to 1:15. She didn’t message me personally or call me to let me know. When I immediately called her to let her know that the timings had been changed without informing me, she declined me call and messaged me that she had a “personal emergency” and had to move the appt. I STILL gave her the benefit of the doubt, and showed up for the appt, despite the urge to not, and forfeit the security deposit. I could see that Martika had terrible communication skills and a complete lack of professionalism. We showed up 15 mins early, and knocked at her salon door. The “salon” was empty and Martika was alone. She made us wait outside and took us at 1:15. I really wondered what she was doing in there that could have qualified as a “personal emergency”. When I went in, I immediately expressed my frustration in dealing with her lack of communication and she had quite the attitude about it. I told her that now my son’s birthday party would be tight and we would be cutting it close. She casually answered that I should have booked the appt for the previous day, despite knowing that I booked a noon time slot, which was almost an hour and a half earlier. She started on the braids and I could instantly see my son in extreme discomfort. Martika pulled so hard on his head, again and again to the point where my son (who is 13 years old and not a crier) started crying from the pain. He said it was the most excruciating pain he had ever experienced. I got upset and told Martika I could not stand to see my son crying like this. She had ZERO sympathy for him and responded with “I don’t think I can continue with this service!!” Instead of asking my son if he was okay and if there was anything she could do to make the process easier, she blamed my son and his “sensitive scalp”. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Please do NOT go to this unprofessional and irresponsible salon. Not only did she over charge me, she made the entire experience from start to finish one of the worst I have ever been through. My poor son sat and was tortured for his birthday. Shame on you Martika, you need to do better. Will NOT be going back.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Yesterday, my son and I experienced something that we have never experienced in almost a year as a customer. Today is our 5th and LAST visit to Martika's Braid Bar. Martika is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL & ILL-MANNERED. Due to weather conditions, We arrived 12 minutes late to our 6:00 PM appointment. I sent Maritka a text message at 5:45 PM to advise that we were running a little bit late. Once we arrived, we apologized again for our late arrival. In the process of Martika retwisting my 6 years old locs, he demonstrated some discomfort, which is normal because the process can be quite painful. As a result of the pain, my son stated that he doesn't want his hair to grow out because when it grows out, it will be time for him to see Martika again. In response to my son's comment, Martika laughed and stated that she was happy he made her laugh since she was having a bad day. Based on my observation, while she was doing my son’s hair her demeanor indicated something was wrong. However, I am aware that we all have our bad/ off days, so I paid no attention to it. After my son's hair was retwisted and he was placed under the dryer and was a little fidgety. Which can be expected from a 6 years old child. Martika has done his hair four times prior and never complained or seemed impatient with him before. As she began to two-strand twist his hair, he appeared to be in complete distress and crying. I asked if it was because the twist was too tight, and her response was "Whatever tension I use with your son he seems to be in pain, and I am using gentle tension right now". In light of the tone of her voice and the fact that my son was experiencing extreme discomfort, I asked Martika not to continue. I then inquired about the price for the retwist only as the style is incomplete. Martika began yelling that she would have to charge me full price. I found her yelling to be very alarming and extremely concerning and asked her whether she was okay and mentioned that I knew she was having a bad day. Martika responded " BABES " ITS IS NOT MY JOB TO BE ALL HI HI, I AM HERE TO DO A JOB RIGHT". I then responded in absolute confusion as to why she was yelling or even referring to me as babes. Stating, "Yes I agree, and I have never asked that of you, based on your attitude it seems like something is wrong- we are customers and we are paying for the service" Martika then said you know what I won't charge you for the style (two strand twist), you can just give me $120.00. As I was getting the funds out of my purse, Martika began spewing frivolous comments "good-luck finding a new stylist and you can leave a review. I assured her that this review would happen and told her that she was a B*TCH!!! and left. In conclusion, I value professionalism and respect. Based on Martika’s LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM I will not recommend anyone to her.

Martika is nothing short of amazing! I booked her for my ten year old daughter’s hair and she exceeding my exceptions. I showed her a picture of I what I wanted and she nailed it even better! She was friendly, very patient with my daughter, her salon was very clean and her skills are next level. I am locked in with Martina’s braid bar. I can’t wait to book my appointment next! My daughter receives soooo many compliments everywhere we go. It’s now week 4 and her braids are still going strong.

Setting up an appointment was easy and before the appointment Martika discussed with me the style of braid that I wanted. Martika was friendly when I arrived and she quickly got to working on my hair. During the braiding she was easy to talk to and she also explained the steps of braiding which showed her knowledge. She finished the job much sooner than I thought and it came out looking great. I highly recommend her if you’re looking for an amazing braiding.

Where to begin, Martika is an absolute gem! I had gotten braids in the past from other places, but after my visit with Martika I now know what a real braid up looks like and feels like. She is very attentive to detail, clean, professional, and has extremely great communication skills, she made sure I was pleased with the design throughoutthe process, paused and made a video so that I can approve. There was so much more but don't want this to be any longer...

I just can’t believe I paid for this, this is pure wickedness. I went to Martika to get my hair done for my birthday, which is tomorrow. This here is the result. It doesn’t even look like I got it done today. I have shoulder length locs, she did my hair within 20 minutes. I didn’t even know how bad it is, until I got home. I don’t like writing reviews but this one I have to. This is pure robbery, taking out the hairstyle that you just did sucks.

This is my first time ever doing a google review, and that says something about Martika’s service. Not only was she very professional, she washed my hair, detangled it, and braided with amazing skills! From her organizational skills, to how she consulted with me regarding my ideal look, It would’ve been criminal if I didn’t leave a review! For those looking to get their hair braided, I highly recommend her service!

Professional, knowledgeable, and very friendly. Martika was amazing right from the start. She commutated beforehand how everything would be done, and executed it to perfection when I got there. She answered all of my questions, and gave great advice to help maintain my new braids. I'm definitely going back, and highly recommend her to anyone that wants their hair done right.

Martika is great at what she does and takes very good care of her clients. She’s very professional and delivers on quality. Got comb coils done by Martika 10/10 service! she was communicative while I was booking extended my booking because I showed up late and did an amazing job on my hair and when I sat down I got to watch anything of my choice on netflix throughout the process of getting my hair done. I booked an a braid appointment for my son with Martika and had to cancel. I called to explain and reschedule and she made the adjustment for me within 30 mins of my call to her. Not only did she accommodate us she did an awesome job on my son! We will definitely book with her again!
