I'm a christian and went here today with a muslim friend to check it out and maybe learn something. We get inside and as soon as I get in the man who seemed to be in charge (African American man, a little bigger) identified me as a non muslim and pointed to a chair I could sit in. After my friend washed and was ready to pray he told me I could come in and have a look. So I did, and then sat quietly as my friend prayed. I heard a whispered "Hey!" and I look at the door to see the same man gesturing for me to come to him. He tells me "I told you to sit in that chair. It is time to leave." Shocked, and a little intimidated I quickly grabbed my shoes and went outside. My friend noticed I was gone and talked to the man who proceeded to tell him he made me leave because "I was not muslim, and was not allowed in here." That man is terrible, and to be honest I don't know why he's in charge. How can you expect to break all these terrible and false stereotypes people believe about Islam if you don't even let people in to learn? I'm not against Islam at all, but I am against this Mosque. If you arent Muslim, don't bother going here, youll be treated with hostility and will be kicked out. Try another one.
Great place to pray, this is the mosque that the Boxer, Muhammad Ali commissioned to be built. It is constructed in the Islamic tradition with some modern-day features, like air conditioning. It has some OffStreet parking, wheelchair ramp, handicap parking, BUT, it is not really easily accessible by wheelchair. the ramp to access the prayer area is on the back of the building, and is usually locked. so use the front ramp to let the caretaker know you want to come in with a wheelchair, then exit the front and go to the rear and look for the ramp back there. that is how to get in to pray in wheel chair. Once you have done that the caretaker can give you his phone number to call and he will then unlock the door before you arrive on the day you call for it. As for non muslims attending, there are special events open to all, but this caretaker does not like for non muslims to be inside during daily prayers, for security reasons. As when it was allowed there were incidents that disrupted the prayers and vandalism to the interiors of the building. So your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
MashAllah, Allah has blessed the Muslim Brothers and Sisters of this Masjid to be very dedicated to Islamic progress and Islamic education. Alhumdulillah for the growth and knowledge of the Imam and the team that he works with. I did read the "no baby in diapers" rule. I agree that if your baby poops and leaks on his clothes and it gets into the carpet where another sister will put her head down to pray, or even if a sister is on her cycle and she has an accident on the carpet, this would be hard for others to pray and stay in a prayer mode with this type of issues that could happen. Also the many of Masjids that I have gone to the sisters, come there with that one kid that is just running, running and screaming all over the sisters and brothers side. Yes, the Masjid is for kids no doubt but so is a playground and a community center. This Masjid should have more activities that allow for community gatherings like a family night where sisters can bring food and their babies.
First of all how do you define a mosque In Islam. If the definition includes not allowing children (irrespective of age) inside the mosque and there is a single fatwa in Islam favoring this then this maybe a mosque. A place where my children are not welcome is definitely not a mosque. Common sense will not allow me to go any place, no matter how fancy, where my children are not allowed. People going here are just promoting this wrong behavior. I would advice people to please read and realize how big a sin they are committing and also read the science behind how early age and learning are related. I have lived in Muslim majority countries including Middle East all my life with exposure to the biggest mosques and top scholars. May the Almighty guide us. I pray and hope I see the time that these people get guidance and change these man made, self imposed restrictions which brings a lot of bad wishes to them and makes muslims and Islam look bad. Ameen
I went there today for Eid prayers with my baby. I was stopped at the entrance and was told that mothers with babies were not allowed into the sisters praying area. The sister there told me to go down the stairs and turn to the left and I couldn't believe it when I saw that the designated area for mothers with babies was outside under the hot sun. I went back to the entrance of the sisters praying area to ask why I had to pray outside in the open because I had a baby with me and they told me I could write to the management if I had any complaints about that and that there were some mats under the tree outside . Seriously??? I felt so embarrassed. I mean, this is a place of worship and should be open to EVERYONE including babies and children. Are they indirectly saying we should not bring our children to the mosque? For whatever their silly reason is, I leave God to judge.
I absolutely love this masjid. I am from a few hours south of Chicago, but every time I visit Chicago, I make sure that I visit this masjid in particular. The women's side is separated by a curtain, and it is very spacious. There are quite a few Qurans around, and a very well-lit, very excellent wudu area. The people here are quite friendly, and every time I go, I feel very at peace. I absolutely adore the architecture, and it is the only mosque where I have felt 110% comfortable. I was hoping to find a library but neither my husband nor I could find where one would exist at. It's always very neat, and I appreciate they leave money donation things on the women's side. (To me, it's like admitting that women can choose to donate money too, you know. Very few masjids actually put this donation box on the women's side though.) Keep being awesome, guys! :D Salaam alaikum!
This is a beautiful mosque..but the women who are mensturating are not allowed to be anywhere inside the mosque which is wrong. Not only would they not let me sit outside the hall but escorted me out of the mosque. Women were sitting outside under a tent. Everyone doesn't have to know that we are mensturating. The segregation is unnecessary and Allah didn't mention anything like this in Quran as far as I know. Sadly it wasn't inviting and this made me upset on an important day like Eid. I hope the management does more research on this topic and changes this rule which they have been following from 20 years.
This is the Faatir Masjid personally build by The Legend Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali’s boxing gym was at this location. This masjid holds a unique place in history. Very peaceful and inviting. Not far from Downtown chicago and hustle and bustle but you come here and forget all of that out there. If you are in the area please make a point to visit and offer couple rakat Salah and make Dua’s for Muhammad Ali. He has truly left his greatness and love of humanity for people to enjoy and experience. Love this Masjid. It’s beautiful and centrally located.
I thank Almighty God, the Most High, for everything most of all for leading me into this masjid, Masjid Al-Faatir. I've been to the Holy City of Mecca and the City of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) Medinah and this masjid I find to be most like these two sacred places. Al humdulillah: it smells clean and sweet down to my sajadah; I do not bump arms with sisters as I enter the door because there are separate entrances; and most of all there is always an enlightening khutbah that I can reflect and act upon, until the next jumah.
Do not bring your small children here; they are not welcomed. I have been to countless masjids/ mosques and this is the first time I have ever been turned away because my 1 year old was in a Diaper and was not welcomed. I felt humiliated as I was escorted out. I can not imagine how anyone thinks this is following the way of our beloved prophet, who would pick is grandchildren up while leading prayer. I do not know who came up with this policy. May Allah guide them.
Unique logic of having toilet in separate building outside. Urinal with lota... People peeing standing not using paper /water and going for prayer. Jummah in last few minutes of dhur time immediately followed by asr prayer. People completely ignored imam message for not blocking other people's cars, but double parking was facilitated by management. I was just visitor from Canada happen to be there end up waiting 15 minutes to get out from parking /double parking.
I remember praying here when I was the 4th Spanish Muslim in Chicago, Alahmdulillah I used to get asked when have you seen a White Muslim in 2000 African American Christians would say man you stupid when have you seen a Hispanic Muslim?? joke is on them how many Spanish Muslim accepted Islam?? I've worked to invite our Spanish brothers to Islam Salam Walikum from Lima,Peru☝
The bathroom and no child policy can be inconvient for women that want to attend. I dont have a problem with that, its how they 'screen' you before you go in. They make there poli ies very clear and even for non diaper babies they dont make you feel welcome with little children and i get it however. Its the masjid and they sre forgetting moms need to connect to.
Good Mosque to visit while in Chicago Thank Allah for being Very accommodating During Ramadan as always. The Brother there Even showed me a foundation where to Donate Clothes which has been difficult to do during the Pandemic.. During Covid19 Lockdown many Majids stopped taking clothes Donations. Shakran …
I prayed my Fajar prayer after I was driving 25 minutes looking for mosque that is open for morning prayer. Finally I found Fatir Mosque. Masha Allah Very peaceful and very beautifully built. I made Dua for the brother who built. May Allah give him Jannah. Ameen
Jummah Mubarak Peace and Love ❤️ Masjid Al-Faatir is right in downtown Chicago build by Famous Boxer Muhammad Ali Mosque is very Beautiful and they have a very enthusiastic Sheikh who really draws you in. . Also witness a revert brother -Allah-o-Akbar!!
I am Muslim. When you come into the mosque for prayer Muslims women and non Muslims women must have there hair cover entirely and can not show there arms or legs when praying to Allah and also it is a distraction to Muslim men.
alhamdulialh I was lucky to know this place and have seen the light living being inside. blessed for this great work , that gathered people from every corners of earth in such small place in peace and harmony.
MashaAllah MashaAllah MashaAllah Very Beautiful Masjid built in 1983 Super Clean and maintained Land donated by Our Boxing Cahampion Mohammed Ali “Allah The Merciful grant him higher places in Jannah Ameen
Some of the reviews here say that kids under 7 years of age are not allowed in this masjid. I believe those are old reviews and that kids are allowed in the masjid and it’s a beautiful masjid. Jazak Allah.
I appreciate this Masjid for keeping up with real today issues and addressing them. He makes you feel that the question you asked yourself was heard and now being answered. ALHUMDILALLAH MASHAALLAH
Ladies got separate room by using clothing. Hand sanitizer is available by entrance on a desk. People are friendly. Beautiful recitation by imam almost everytime i prayed with them in jamah.
“If you don’t like what i’m saying then go to a different Masjid” where the first words I heard him say. Nice building, but the imam said numerous things that were uncalled for.
Very beautiful in and out. They just have the bathrooms outside the mosque but the Wudoa area is inside. Good free parking space, everyone is super friendly. Alhamdulilah.
Love the masjid, incredibly peaceful to allow for prayer and worship. Others there also seemed very friendly. Though my wife said there wasn’t a washroom for women
MashaAllah- beautiful masjid, and there’s such a peace when you enter. I came for Asr prayer and there was a spacious section for women to make wudu and pray.
Loved this masjid, just so new folks know that restrooms are outside (right by the parking lot). It is a regular place of worship for musilms.
