I've been going to Matthews since the 80's when I first bought my Diamondback Hotstreak BMX bike. I've purchased several bikes and had service done many times. I took my 90's Gary Fischer in and wanted it converted to single speed. I spoke with a member of the service team and we talked about gearing, chain rings, and everything it would need. Not being sure what parts are available they told me they would let me know and gave me an estimate for $95. Cool sound really reasonable, told them I'm in no hurry. Fast forward 3 weeks later, I see a missed call from Matthews, call back the very next day and they told me the bike is done. Great, I wonder what you all did, since no body called to let me know, no one talked to me about the gearing, or what parts they ended up needing. I go to pick it up, and they charge me $374.95 plus tax. I'm like wow, that's 3 times what you estimated me. Nancy, I believe, was well we tried to call but you have no voicemail. Which is not true, my vm works just fine, so does texting and so does my email. They went ahead and did all the work without my approval and then charged me 3 times more than my estimate. They apparently can't estimate very well, and don't seem to put much effort into contacting you. Super disapointed and will never be going back there. Be warned they will overcharge you without your consent! **EDIT** 30minutes later. As I still try to wrap my head around the fact I paid $400 for a single speed conversion, I noticed on my reciept that I was double charged for the chain ring ($65). No big deal mistakes happen, I get it. But I went out to ride my bike and within 2 pedal strokes the chaintensioner starts binding and the gears slip. The bike is literally unridable. Great, back to the shop. They did refund my money without hassle, and they quickly fixed the bike. I made sure to ride it in the parking lot before I left this time. Overall this was a huge bummer of an experience.

I love Matthews! They are by far the best local bicycle shop in Indy. Great service, wide selection of bike from BMX to Road to Gravel, they have what you need at reasonable prices. Went today for a custom bike fitting with Chris and his attention to detail, expertise and knowledge was unmatched. I've had pro fittings done in other states and the amount of time he spent going over every detail is well worth the cost. AND you can return until the fit is just right! I love that he offers micro adjustments included in the initial cost of a fit. Trust me, not all fitters offer this. I am recommending anyone looking for a quality bike give them an opportunity to earn your business. It's a reason they have been around for decades as a local establishment. I'm sending my wife and a friend to them for custom fittings so that they can enjoy riding as much as I do.

So glad I went there. I chose to go during the 75th anniversary sale, and found my new bike. I ended up buying a Specialized Roll, which is super comfy and so easy to ride. I worked with Brad there, and he helped me try out a few bikes, but in the end, they did not have the exact one I wanted, so I ordered one through them. The bike came in quickly, and they were able to swap the brake sides (motorcycle style front on the right) as they were assembling it. Once it was done, I went to pick up the bike and took a quick test ride on the lot. The shifting was not completely smooth. Brad put the bike on the stand and worked on it until it was shifting perfectly. It was a great experience, and really showed how much they want to take care of their customers. I am loving the new bike and very glad I bought through them. Brad was awesome.

paid $400 for a Haro for my son, took the bike back for the maintenance tune. Shortly after we purchased the bike the material came loose from the side of the seat, when we asked about it they said that the bike has been laid on its side, my son keeps that bike in his room, takes great care of it, he had one wreck and it scrapped the hand grip and pedal, no marks or any sign of damage anywhere on the seat, today my son was at the bike/skate park in Franklin, he popped his tire tube, he walked it to Grey Goat bikes downtown, they replaced his tube, no big deal except the guy told him his tire was on backwards (tread reversed) and that it could not be changed now, we purchased this bike already assembled from Mathews , now makes me wonder if they really know bikes at all!

Bad communication. Placed a bike in for service for my wife's birthday to have new brakes installed. Was told on Thursday bike would be ready by that weekend. Called in Sunday morning and was informed that it was pushed back to Monday, than called Monday around 4pm to be informed it wouldn't be on schedule till Tuesday now. Also stated he heard someone told me Sunday for Monday, but he knew that wouldn't work and didn't bother to call on Sunday or Monday and say hey we need to reschedule to Tuesday. Bad communication resulting in loosing of my business as well as letting all my friend know to be warm of taking thing in there. If you have a timeliness don't get services done here, they will not inform you of delays and tell you lies to keep the sale alive.

Best bike shop I've been to I went there to buy a new Bmx and it was mint, exact same price as Haro themselves and its already built ready to ride! The customer service was amazing as well, got me exactly what I wanted and was very friendly. The building itself is very nice and professional with a wide variety and they have some extra parts to choose from if you ever want to modify your bike in the future. They even let you bring your bike in for checkups. Huge nicely stocked inventory, I mean I just couldn't say enough nice things about Matthews. If your in the market for a bike, this is the place to go. Read some of the negative reviews but honestly I couldn't say one bad thing about them, looking forward to coming again in the future

Matthews is top notch. Scott, Guy, Steve and the crew have been awesome. I have purchased 6 bikes from them, 3 of them in the past 12mos. No pressure and always friendly help. They spent time with my wife on trying out a ton of road bikes before purchase and offering input on what to look for in each. Recently brought a family member in and they spent two occasions putting him on a series of roadbike geometries to narrow down his first serious roadbike purchase. We have all had to have minor tweaks as the bikes and cables break in/stretch (all new bikes do this), and the included follow up visit has always been quick and spot on. Matthews is our go to shop in Indy!

Basically I went here as a kid , got back into bikes a few years ago. I decided to buy a quality bike. Came to the store around 10:30. The lot was empty other than ne when I walked in. A guy said there were more bikes upstairs, and as I tried to talk to him he walked away. I know he heard me try to talk to him. I went up stairs walked around. Saw a couple Haro's I liked , and came down. No one else talked to me. They were to busy talking to themselves doing nothing. Not sure what that was all about, but I'll never be back and my kids won't go there like I did. I guess I'll check out B.G.I. or something like that. Wasted Trip, and wanting to do business.

Great experience . Helpful guys although my sales person did leave me in the middle of the sale. I guess he figured it was a done deal so he moved on to another customer. Odd. As I had more questions. I think some of the older guys in there are more knowledgeable and professional. Friendly service. Good prices. They seem to stand by their products. I think my bike is to big, they told me to bring it back and they would exchange it for a smaller one. I wish I would have found the perfect bike on the first trip. Maybe this is normal. I would go back again. Ask for the free kickstand.

Brought a MTB in for a new dropper post. Was concerned that it wasn’t going to be done before heading out of state to ride. Although it took awhile to get the part, the service team went out of their way to install it and have it ready. Oh, and they did it in the dark as the power was out. Luckily I had cash and they were nice to round down the bill to make it easier without a register. The team at Matthews epitomizes why you should always utilize a local bike shop. You will be taken care of. Special thanks to Steve in service. I hope I got his name correct. He’s a pro.

Good shopping experience. They have a wide selection and didn't try to show us bikes out of our price range. Prices in store matched everything we found online, which is great considering bikes purchased online would need to be assembled unlike the ones ready to ride in-store. They gave the bikes a quick tuneup before we left the store and also installed kickstands for us. Plus we go back in a month or so for a free tuneup again in case there is any cable flex. Shout out to the salesperson Scott who was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Definitely one of the coolest bike shops in Indy. The staff is amazing! First time I visit, I was greeted by Scott who helped me try other a couple bikes. After visiting other bike stores in the area, I decided to go back here to make a purchase! There have many options at reasonable prices. When I returned, the staff that day were super helpful and awesome! They are all informative! I highly recommend visiting them when you are looking for a bike! Also what bike shop, mails you a hand written thank you note!.

Great service and very responsive. In searching for a Trek Marlin -7 back in October 2020, Matthews was the only shop that could supply the bike in a reasonable timeframe (by Dec 2020). All other bike shops could not supply until April 2021 or later. Since Matthews was able to supply the bike much earlier than expected, I have enjoyed several months of riding on the few warm days prior to Spring 2021. Their service team made all the adjustments I wanted and the bike is perfect!! I can't stop riding it!!!

I love this bike shop. I bought a Trek 820 and I couldn't be happier with it! But the review isn't about the bike, it's about the shop. Staff is eager to help and knowledgeable. Brad helped me the most in choosing the right bike. He answered all of my questions. Since purchase, I've had to take it in twice for repair (user error). Both times they quickly diagnosed and repaired, free of charge. I would recommend going to Matthews Bicycle Mart before anyone else. Plus they're the only shop open Sundays!

I’m new to the bikes world and just moved to Indiana. I was told the best place to get a bike is BGI. To be honest I went to BGI and waisted 45 min. Today I spent 15 min only at Mathews and learned from Scott what size is best from me and what type is best for me. He was explaining and demonstrating on deferent bikes. In fact, he was providing a positive feedback on a bike I saw at BGI. He is professional and I’m glad that I met him today. I will definitely come back to buy a bike from Matthews.

Best Bike Shop in Indy! Matthews has been here a long time and always have great deals on bikes. I've bought 3 or 4 bikes from them. Service is great too...they actually staff full-time bicycle mechanics, not just kids that read the assembly instructions, like at the dept. stores. The sales staff is very good too...not pushy, snooty or jerky, like many other Indy bicycle shops & garages and lines. HINT: Always go upstairs to look for extra good deals!

Bought two bikes from them in college back in 1992. Thought I’d go back to have a BMX worked on. We were treated very good. Then I called to check on my bike and the vibe was totally different. Mark has no idea how to talk to a customer. He was rude. Went to pick my bike up before he touched it. He could have cared less. Once a Pixie always a Pixie. Thanks for nothing Mathews. On to a real bike shop like Indy Cycle Specialists.

I've visited twice for the kids. Hands down I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am with the staff knowledge level and professionalism. White glove service on every purchase I made just exceeded my overall experience too. If you want to get away from chain retail box mass produced bikes please go to Matthew's. Yes you will pay more but I'd rather spend money on quality and top notch service.

I went in knowing pretty much nothing about bikes and left with the bike I wanted. They helped me find the best bike in my price range that suited what I wanted, and they taught me what I needed to know about the bike and answered all my questions honestly and didn't upsale me on anything. They let me take a test ride on any bike. A very honest bike shop and very helpful. Definitely going back!

Mathew’s bike mart is officially my favorite bike shop. They have a huge selection of bikes and accessories. The staff were very helpful and I felt very welcomed there. After I picked out my bike they have a lovely waiting area with comfy leather couches and refreshments while I waited for the service team to set up and inspect my new ride. The service team was also very knowledgeable and kind.

By far the best selection of bikes around Indianapolis. I traveled across town from Danville to visit while looking for a new bike. Was looking for a hybrid/ fitness style bike. Was pretty set on Trek and a DS 3. Some with the guy and he knew a lot about bikes. He told me about the brand Specialized. I ended up leaving that day with a specialized crosstrail and a bike first bike for my son.

Great experience with Matthews' service team. Quick diagnosis, accurate estimate, turned around the repair in half the time projected, called immediately to let me know it was finished. Friendly and good rapport with customers from all staff engaged with is evidence that the staff enjoys what they are doing for their customers. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending Matthews!

Just finished purchasing a tandem bike from Matthews, and the customer service was fantastic. While the other guys said "this might not work" John Boyland at Matthews said "WE'LL MAKE IT WORK." Our son has some health issues that have prevented him from enjoying our rides together as much as he's like to, but that has changed since buying the tandem. Thank you Matthews!

So helpful and friendly! I'm a biking newbie... I had no idea what type of bike I needed and didn't want to spend a lot. The guy helping me was amazing, he picked out exactly what I needed and for a good price too. I've been to other bike shops and this is the only one that really helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Would highly recommend to everyone!

Best place in Indy to purchase/service a bike. The thing we liked the most about this shop was that they were actually trying to sell us the best bike for us, instead of the most expensive bike in our range. Staff is very kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Enormous selection of mountain bikes, with much fairer pricing than any other bike shops in area.

I can't leave a bike shop without spending money so I go to Matthews where I don't have to spend as much. They have kept me peddling for more than 30 years. Kudos to Steve, Service Manager, for quality mechanical. Ill ride R.A.I.N. with condidence in my equipment. Mike was so awesome to work with! He made it a fun experience for my son, husband, and I to purchase new bikes and accessories. He was very knowledgeable and found us the best bikes to fit our needs. We had a very patient low-key fun salesman who helped them pick out their bikes. And when you need a repair or service, they really try to find the least expensive way to do it. A HUGE thanks to the guys at Matthew's!! I was riding the trails at Ft Ben when my front bearings Desintigrated (to quote them when they saw what was left ). I wasn't going to make it 10 miles to home so I managed to make it to Matthew'sThey replaced my front wheel and had me back on the road in 30 minutes! Thank You guys!!

Got a bike fitting done today and the customer service was immaculate and the man who did it was very upfront with what was going on and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. If you plan on getting fitted for a bike in indiana this is the place to go, they have the merits and drive to do a perfect job!

This is a great store with absolutely exceptional customer service. It will cost you more than a Walmart bike but the quality is unbeatable and they never try and sell you a bike you're not interested in. Plus you can test ride every bike to find out which one you like the most. Great place. Customer for life

Best LBS around. Very patient with me and my family. They really go the extra mile to make sure you get what you want and would be the happiest with. Almost always some seasonal items on sale. They really believe in their products and wide variety. I ride all year and when I have issues they are a great help.

Went in at 4:50 on a Friday to hopefully get a replacement cable because I was sure that they couldn’t replace it that day. I was scheduled to go on a group ride the next day and was desperate! They were so helpful, stopped and replaced my cables and basically tuned it up right then. They’re awesome!!!

Friendly and fast. I didnt make a purchase on this visit but the employee was knowledgeable and top notch. He showed me how to remove the front tire and educated me on sizes and styles. Will come back to make my order. No wait time, carries accessories as well. Wrote down makes and models for me.

Wife purchased her mtb from here, so they serviced it for free after a month of riding and even put on extra parts. Brad and Scott went out of their way to ensure we have our bikes for a weekend while I waited for my dropper post to come in. Glad this type of shop exists in Indy!

I've been stopping in periodically since I moved to Lawrence, and these guys are great. They have fair prices, their mechanics do great work, and they're always super friendly. I buy all my parts and accessories here now. I will definitely make my next bike purchase here as well.

I've bought my last two road bikes from Matthews. This second time around, I could not have been more pleased with the process and the knowledge of the team at Matthews. Mike spent two hours with me perfecting the fit of my bike, a beautiful Bianchi model, and it feels perfect!

Updating this review with comments 4/26/22. Nancy went out of her way today to suggest other Trek dealers after Trek shorted a different dealer of a bike we had reserved. So not only are they great to buy from - they'll help you find what you need even if they don't have it.

I bought my bike from another shop and have had some service and warranty issues. The guys at Matthews Bicycle Mart have always fixed any problems and/or serviced my bike....the same day. I live in Noblesville and will gladly travel to give them my business. A+++

Great, knowledgeable crew at Matthews. Purchased a mountain bike upgrade after struggling for a year with an older marketplace purchase. Mike was straight forward and well versed in tailoring my budget and needs to an awesome bike that I’ve enjoyed riding.

Really disappointed, have lived in this community for all of my 57 years. They charged me more the double for tube . For my neighbors kids bike. Then I could buy for a couple miles away for half price. Shame on you. Won’t come back or send anyone your way.

Great people, fair prices, excellent service. Matthews Replaced tires on my rode bike and two spokes on back wheel, tuned it up - bike has never run better. Took it for a quick 10 mile ride this morning and was well pleased with Matthews bike shop!

This place has tons of bikes, walked around for about 15 minutes looking for a bike for our daughter. It was pretty dead and the few people that passed us did not acknowledge us. I guess they don’t really need the business if you aren’t a regular?

One of the best shops in town, and often the only one open when I get off late from work. Staff is super nice and clearly like their jobs. Selection not as great as other stores, but sometimes will have the specialty parts I'm looking for.

Very well equipped bicycle shop and helpful staff, Scott. Enjoyed a test Rider 2 and considering my options. Inventory appears to be an issue for everyone:-) all my questions answered and getting a better idea of what I should purchase.

Excellent customer service. Staff quickly acknowledged you. They try to help you out asap. I had to change a swifter and they did it really quick. They gave me options before taking a decision, which I really appreciated it.

Got a flat tire tube replaced in less than 10 mins for a reasonable price ($18+), found brakes to purchase later for another bike and was given helpful tips on how to release brakes for easier wheel removal & installation.

Very knowledgeable staff and great mechanics! One of the few shops in Indy that sell folding bikes. I love mine! And they offer pick-up and delivery service--great for those of us who are sans car.
