UPDATED REVIEW They went above and beyond to fix my paint issue. After reaching out to me and exchanging emails, I was unable to come by the store during typical hours today because I had some appointments downtown. They reached out to me after close and Luis, their Assistant Manager, offered to come to my apartment down the street to scan the tile that I was attempting to match with their handheld device. He then went back and mixed me new paint and did an exchange, all after hours, to get me the paint that matched. Bagged up some snacks for my dog on the way out, as well. Genuinely above and beyond service and care to fix an issue. I now know, and I hope this review helps others to know that they typically do no return or exchange mixed paint. That said, I appreciate the extreme care and empathy they showed and will definitely again be frequenting this neighborhood store. PREVIOUS REVIEW Been here 2-5 times a week since I moved in down the street despite their prices and selection not always being the best and having to leave to go elsewhere. Don’t see myself going back after today. Went in to buy paint, only needed a small amount but the smallest they sell is a quart, no sample sizes. Picked out a color and when they went to make it they said they were out of the type I requested and I’d have to go with one that’s $10 more expensive. They honored my $5 coupon that they otherwise wouldn’t have, but still…$30 for a quart was more than I wanted to pay, which I explicitly told them. But, I gave in to the more expensive paint they offered despite vocalizing that I was very hesitant. They mixed it and sold it to me without doing a drop test on top to see if I liked the color. I thought nothing of it. Bought, went home, and did so myself. It didn’t match my item and was way brighter than the sample card. Went back 10 minutes later to return and they said no returns on mixed paints. I’ve never seen a paint supplier not take unused paint for returns. How on earth would they not tell that to a customer who was hesitant about a purchase, one who during the transaction said the paint wasn’t for a wall but for furniture. I now have $30 of unusable paint and am going to have to find a new hardware store. The very friendly staff is the only reason I am giving 2 stars versus 1.
If I’m going to the hardware store it’s for 1 of 2 reasons: I’m feeling creative and want to tackle a project, or I have a problem that needs to be solved. In both states of mind I need help, and they’re ready to give it with sincere empathy and expertise. It’s clear that the employees seem to enjoy working there, enjoy each other, and love helping customers. They listen as I convolutedly explain whatever I’m trying to do (a wing nut I can’t unscrew, a mirror frame I need the right kind of paint for, etc) and they work with me until we’ve found a solution. They even stop me from over-spending if they think that product won’t solve the problem. The best customer service experience I have ever had was here. I am seriously terrified of cockroaches, and when I started seeing them in my apartment I went here to buy some bug spray so I was armed for any more encounters. I was distraught and exhausted after a few days of dealing with it and as they were walking me through the spray options, I made a quick joke about the irony of putting pictures of cockroaches on the bottle since, if you’re buying the spray, it’s because you hate seeing bugs. As I shopped around for other things one of the employees took a can to the register and covered all the cockroach images with sale stickers so I wouldn’t have to see any cockroaches again! They caught me in a pretty rough moment and went above and beyond to help. That little act of kindness certainly went further than they know. The people here absolutely rock. If you live in the area and need a hardware store it’s worth the trip!
I've been shopping here for 10 years, living nearby - they've always been my first stop for anything hardware/home related. Three years ago, they were definitely 5 star - helpful, well stocked, decent prices. However, that all changed recently as their focus switched to developing the rest of the block they own. The hardware store was drastically shuffled around - there's basically no sense to where anything is now, and even the staff seems to have a hard time knowing what they have and where to find it. It's also much more difficult to get their attention, and to get the item you need. What would have been a quick 5 minute stop with certainty you would walk out with what you needed has now turned into a frustrating half-hour search among disorder and not-as-helpful staff, with a good chance you'll walk out empty handed. Though I really do hope they'll recover and regain their focus on hardware - Brooklyn Hardware on 5th Avenue is often just a better first stop, or the R&A across from Key Food. Update 7/2013: The store is now even smaller, and less organized than before - it's a hodgepodge of whatever they've saved as the space shrinks. It seems fairly clear that they're now focused on development their increasingly valuable real estate space (and more power to them for it) - but the hardware store is now just sad, frankly.
I rarely write reviews for anything but never in my life have I had as excellent a customer experience like this one. Our kitchen sink recently broke and flooded our floor. Because it attaches to our clothing washer and dishwasher and we have an infant, I decided to fix it myself in the next few days. I detached all the suspect parts, dragged them into the store, and Luis patiently listened to my explanations and assisted me. At first we thought it might be a mere washer replacement, and when it wasn’t and I returned, Luis insisted on processing a return of $2.50 or so for the unused washer and another piece. He proceeded to fix a much more complicated problem for me. Sawed two pipes I needed down to custom size in store, and came up with a creative solution to join two pipes. Lovely people, Luis is the best, our two washers and sink are back to working, and we were saved $100s of dollars by visiting this store for not having to hire a plumber!
Update: Stephanie at Mazzone assisted me, and they have since done what they could to make the below issue right. Our trips to Mazzone have been great ever since-- everyone is super friendly and want to help. I'm glad we can put that bad experience behind us! Prior review (May 2022): Super friendly staff at Mazzone who want to help (except the female manager who didn't seem to care). If you live close enough, cross-check and start conservatively with paint, as they oversold my partner by *3 GALLONS* (it only took 2 gallons for two coats of primer over the entire place). Also, they mixed a light grey paint when I had brought in a dark grey/almost black can of paint to match (no test drop so I didn't realize it didn't match until I got home; no refunds or re-mixing). Overall, Luis was the most customer-centered and helpful.
I've had bad experiences at Ace hardwares in other locations, so I wasn't expecting much and just wandered in because it was closest to home and on the way to another hardware store I was planning on buying from. I needed a mending brace to fix my broken bed. I was helped immediately by a black young lady even though the total bill was probably not worth her time. For $7 I got the mending brace and additional screws and nuts. I went back 10 mins later because I hadn't picked screws long enough. The kind lady let me pick out my screws again and voluntarily replaced my old screws for only the difference in cost. This is stellar customer service and makes me rethink my impression of Ace. Thanks for running an honest neighborhood store.
I've lived in the area for 26 years and have used Pintchik's throughout. I don't go there often, but I can't remember them ever not having what I needed. Today I needed paint to match a recent paint job in my apartment. I called in advance, gave the woman details on the type and color. As others have noted, she wasn't cheery, but she was business-like. She made me give credit card info on the phone. I don't disagree with that, because if I didn't show up, they'd be stuck with a pre-mixed paint that they probably couldn't resell. I got to the store, the paint and receipt were on the counter. I signed and left. That part took only a minute. Hard to be displeased with this transaction.
This is a really good neighborhood hardware store -- well-stocked and well-staffed. I was particularly happy to discover that they offer quick and inexpensive knife sharpening, using a self-contained unit by Resharp. The knife is aligned using a laser and then the machine uses a separate laser to evaluate the edge, establish the proper bevel, and hone it. I had five knives beautifully sharpened in about 15 minutes. The staff person assisting me said that area restaurants bring in their knives every 4-6 weeks, which seems like a good recommendation. It's a great way to keep essential kitchen tools working well.
They seem to go out of their way to make you feel bad. Have been shopping here for years, and never once have I been able to go in, get what I want, and get out. They've made a lot of mistakes (a lot) but honestly what matters most to me is that I've never once left that store feeling happy. They've always treated me with passive aggressive disdain--just enough to not be a blatant insult. If they just a little less spiteful, this would be a great store.
Luis has poor customer service skills. He gave me a difficult time returning a deadbolt that didn't fit my door. He accused me of damaging the lock set and threatened that he wasn't going to refund me. If I didn't get firm with him I would have been out $80. I was going to buy something else but the experience turned me off. I will never go back there. I shouldn't have my integrity challenged just to return something that doesn't work.
I just wanna say my recent visit to Mazzone Hardware on 476 Bergen st was amazing. The staff ( Louis, Carlos, Julia, Shai-Ann & Kennedy) are the most polite and courteous workers I have ever met.. They were professional and extremely helpful.. I would definitely recommend Mazzone to others & I am most certain that I will return... Appreciate all of them... thanks a bunch
Just got turned away at 6:59 (on 1/27) because the sign on their door says they close at ten to seven. When I tried to reason with the staff trying to run away from their store about how Google maps lists them at closing at seven, I was informed that "nobody uses the Google" and some other jabber pertaining to why I was wrong. Congrats on losing a neighborhood customer!
Really hit or miss at this place. They mix paint well (and sell Benjamin Moore), but half the time their employees are quite rude. Expect to get hung up on on the phone at least once when they think they're done answering your first question (i.e. when are you open?) But not the real reason you may have called (i.e. to order paint). Consistently inconsistent service.
I had a simple and straightforward question about what kind of drywall repair material to purchase. Two staff members were both weirdly and aggressively rude to me. I eventually got what I needed. Will not be returning to this store since there are other hardware stores nearby. I have never had another experience like that in a hardware store.
Nice local hardware spot. The usual eclectic mix of basic hardware, tools, and tchotchkes that you find at an Ace today. The staff are helpful and know where to find anything in the store, but if you're looking for advice on how to repair something you might want to check out R&A instead.
Every single time I've walked into Mazzone I've been helped immediately by a staff member. Their crew is amazing. They're all so helpful and professional. This sort of service simply doesn't exist in any other hardware store in Brooklyn, even in the smaller mom & pop shops. …
I love this place! The staff are always knowledgeable, helpful, and make those obligatory hardware runs something to look forward to. They have a huge selection and if there's ever something they don't have, they'll gladly tell you where to get it. One of the best businesses around!
Pleasant place of business. They greet you as soon as you enter, at least when I entered & immediately asked me how can I help you with a smile. With No attitudes or miserable with there job look! They gave me great service so I’ll definitely go back there when needed!
I love Pintchik. I went in for a medeco key that another store couldn't copy successfully. The proprietor spent time with me and showed me how to get the combination off the key. All for a $4 purchase. They clearly love what they do and take pride in doing it right.
Pintchik is simply fantastic. Their salespeople are courteous and knowledgeable. They sell high quality merchandise and unlike the big box stores, virtually no junk. The store is easy to shop in, and uncluttered. I can't recommend them highly enough.
This store is always helpful, if you’re not afraid to ask. They always tell me if something doesn’t work, “bring it on back.” Matt Pintchik himself has helped me pick out the right supplies and tools I need. A good neighborhood hardware store.
Incredible team at this Ace hardware! Especially Joan! I have been shopping with Joan for at least 10 years, and she is wonderful! Today I asked her about shortening a towel bar and she pulled out a saw and cut the bar perfectly for me! She
Ace Hardware is my favorite store in the neighbourhood. The staff members are all so helpful and patient, and their recommendations are stellar (and affordable! They don’t try to make you buy the most expensive option every time, which I
The kindest associates I’ve ever encountered! I came in with two PVC pipes and they not only helped me problem solve, but also aided me in fixing it. The store is clean, well organized, and well-stocked. Lovely warm-hearted people
Extremely friendly staff. They will great you, introduce themselves and help you with any shopping needs. I was wall mounting my TV and the staff was quick to assist me and show me the necessary hardware I would need to use.
Nice hardware store 3stars are cause it's a nice place clean an neat but the woman who worked there looked like she didn't want to be there on top of it she didn't even know what the item I was looking for looked like.
The selection isn't great, but they probably have what you need. The staff are friendly even though there usually aren't enough of them there to help if there are more than a couple of customers in the store.
Shi-Ann and Julia were so helpful! I had never painted a room before and both were super informative and kind. They never tried to upsell me and answered all of my questions. Great prices and great service!
It is a pleasure doing business at Pintchik, the team is extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. It is my neighborhood hardware store of choice. Love shopping there. Happy Holidays to all of you.
Nice, friendly, and helpful staff. I didn't need anything particularly complicated, but they pointed me exactly in the right direction and were efficient and helpful. Also a clean and organized store!
Well-stocked store, friendly staff and great customer service. I've been here several times for large and small orders and always leave with what I need and feeling well taken care of. Thank you!
Fantastic local hardware store, well organized and tidy. Everyone working at Pintchik is friendly and they know their stuff. They have everything I need to help me customize my new apartment.
Best local hardware store, they super nice and friendly and even more important they're extremely professional and know everything you could possibly need! Highly recommended!
Pintchik is the Best! #1 in the 11217 Park Slope North Community and North Flatbush BID - Ace is the Place with the Friendly, Knowledgeable Hardware Staff on Bergen Street :)
The store is super clean and the staff are really friendly! Joan helped me and my friend get a screw and washer to fix his rollerblades and she was so kind and helpful!
Most of the staff is nice, but not everybody unfortunately. The store closes at 6.50pm, not as indicated on google, their web site does not work currently.
The store is confusing but the staff is helpful and readily available. They did not have a problem with questions or showing me around multiple times.
I ran up to the door at 6:50 to buy a couple of mouse traps, but they wouldn't let me in. Apparently they close at 6:50, not at 7 as listed here.
Great hardware store. And my deep thanks to Luis, who didn't give up on me or my old receiver -- and found a fuse that worked after three rounds
Attention is good. Made a good friends over there. They have a great variety of materials and hardwares you may need. I recomend this place.
What a pleasure! I only went in to have keys made but the staff was so accommodating and friendly; doesn't happen often these days. THANKS
Usually the people here are super cool and helpful but my last time in they made a donation to charity on my card without my consent
I went to pickup a few gallons of paint. They were professional and quick. I even picked up a can of oops paint. Very convenient
I shop here pretty regularly for my job and it’s the best hardware store in the area. Extremely helpful staff and decent stock.
I have always gotten excellent help at this store. There are trained interior designers usually on staff to help pick paint.
Through the years, just like so many other Ace Hardware locations, Pintchik has provided reliable, trustworthy service.
Very good experience and cool employees. Keep up the excellent work and thank you for being open during a pandemic.
Everyone was so helpful and friendly!!! Especially…Destiny, Joan, Erica, Sandra and Lewis! Will come back again!!!
Didn't have what I walked all the way over there for after waiting 10 mins almost to find out ♂️ …
