"GREAT place to go running, walking, or biking! These Greenways around Charlotte are relatively flat gravel and/or paved trails, so it's like being on the roads but without all the traffic, noise, and exhaust fumes"
"This Greenway is so beautiful"
"Free"
"Beautiful creek for cyclig"
"Went for an afternoon bike ride through here, it was pretty good on my way to the start of the Greenway, but at the start there is about a mile of gravel that is horrible to bike on"
GREAT place to go running, walking, or biking! These Greenways around Charlotte are relatively flat gravel and/or paved trails, so it's like being on the roads but without all the traffic, noise, and exhaust fumes. These Greenways are great, nice and quiet, usually with the creek always nearby. In my opinion it is one of the best places to take young kids bike riding....no cars and wide, flat trails. There are restrooms at the main parking areas, but none along the trails so be aware of that. You can connect this Greenway with others to string together a long ride or run. I've been able to string together a half marathon run here and it's great to run on a road like surface but without the traffic or fumes. There are no water fountains (I wouldn't use them even if there were) so bring your own hydration. The trails and grounds are always very well maintained. I've never had issues with parking availability or my vehicle being messed with while I left it for a long period of time. I've never had an issue with unruly people, vagrants, or criminal type behavior here. The only issue I've had is cyclists cutting corners (around blind corners) and almost running me over when I'm out on a run. That's happened a few times too many. But I'm a guy. Unfortunately women are a higher probability target. This Greenway is in a decent area of Charlotte, and there is usually a steady stream of people out on the Greenway at any given time, especially weekends and or when there is good weather, so that in itself helps with the safety in numbers thing. I've seen plenty of solo women out on the trails and never seen or heard of any issues. A few to note: 1. These Greenways are in wet areas. Mosquitos come out in force early mornings before sunrise and starting in the evenings. Be prepared to donate some blood to them if you don't put on repellent. 2. It gets very hot, stagnant, and humid in the summer along these trails. There is not much breeze at all due to all the trees and the fact that they're in low lying areas. Bring hydration. 3. Some sections of this Greenway trail are prone to flooding when the nearby creek overflows its banks after a long heavy rain or a couple or more days of steady rains in the area. It won't be impossible to get through just be prepared to get wet or turn around and cut your outing short. There are several Greenways around Charlotte and they are a great way to get outside. All of them are well maintained. Highly recommended.
This Greenway is so beautiful. Everyone we encountered has always been very nice to us. You can walk, run, or bike. This is a peace of quiet heaven amongst the busy pace of the city atmosphere. I love nature. I grew up in Mississippi in the deep south of the country and there is nothing like being outdoors. I find being able to get my family together with outside activity not only helps with their physical activity but their mental health as well. Declutter tv, radio, gaming, phones, just electronics in general from them helps them to be more creative and more open minded. Not worry what others or society think of them or about them. So we gather our bikes on the truck and off we go. We stop to explore nature around us, watch animals in their natural habitat, answer question my wondering children have about nature, but it also gives us a small sense of accomplishment of good in our children lives when the teacher at school says oh y'all had an exciting weekend bc the kiddos are happy to share with others about the importance of taking care of nature. I hope you visit soon and enjoy it!!!
Free. Free parking. Paved lot. Police typically do a few rounds of surveillance throughout the day. Very diverse and welcoming. Friendly runners, walkers, joggers ,bikers, etc. There's a code when you need a path, you say, On your right or On your left, to pass by Land and water animals galore if you stay long enough Benches, water contains, pull up bars, dip area, plank platform for pushups, abs, stretching, etc. Different variations of terrain [gravel, dirt, pavement, planked bridge Wooded. BE CAREFUL while running whether you're a man and definitely if you're a WOMAN or CHILD. If you can, run with someone, run during the day, keep some form of protection. This isn't solely about this greenway, I'm speaking in general. If you wear headphones, don't MAX the volume because you can't hear if someone is saying something or attacking you from behind. Overall, this place is pretty cool. I've never had an issue here. Come on down and try it for yourself!
Beautiful creek for cyclig. Passes through the thick of the woods, runs along side creek n over swamps. Nice place to get close to nature in the middle of the town. No rush, good decent crowd of people doing jogging, dog walks, fishing, birding n cycling. Has nice paved roads. Can be troublesome after rain. Being isolated chances of being stalked, however i have seen cops going on bike n patroling. WEAR GOGGLES, being 8n swamp a loy of mosquitos n insects buzzing around getting in eye. Other than this, its a great place to cycle in the middle of town.
Went for an afternoon bike ride through here, it was pretty good on my way to the start of the Greenway, but at the start there is about a mile of gravel that is horrible to bike on. On my way back there was something on the ground that popped my tire, which was very frustrating. There was also a construction area that had flooded on my way back. I know that the Greenway is expected to flood occasionally, but I feel like we need to do more flood proofing with how often it is. Normally a pretty good ride, just want that kind of day.
Flat, smooth crushed gravel path follows a creek. A series of wooden boardwalks take you through wetlands after a mile, followed by black pavement that connects to 4 Mile Creek Greenway. The boardwalks are very slippery when wet. You'll find ducks, deer, egrets, and other wildlife here. There is a 5k turnaround marker (for runners who are interested), but no elevation change or natural obstacles. Everyone from athletes to casual dog walkers are welcome but you never feel crowded. It is well maintained and stays with the creek.
This Greenway is a great place to walk and bicycle and it has a beautiful view of what all the development around what used to be a swamp. The good Greenway should be functional also however and get you to places that you normally wouldn't be able to get to easily by foot or on a bicycle. This Greenway lacks a little bit in that department. To the only popular destinations this Greenway will get you to is Trader Joe's and the Carolina Place Mall area. Everything else is residential.
Just in the area for a short time and really enjoyed my cycling experience during my first visit. Beautiful trail with plenty of room for walkers and cyclists. My second visit was a different story. I do tend to push it pretty hard but I’m very careful around people and aware that the boards can be slick. Evidently not careful enough and went down hard on the boards. I would only recommend it for the casual cyclist.
Love going on walks or taking the kid bike riding. Goes a long way and is both paved and gravel paths. You will get to see deer, turtles, frogs and more. There are restrooms at the parking area and it has a classic park workout space with pull ups, dips and boxes for plyometrics. Dog friendly dly, including a wash/water station so you can get them water and wash them off if they get muddy in some wet spots.
Linked the McMullen, mcalpine, and four mile creek greenways out-and-back for a 13 mile run and really enjoyed the variety of ecosystems and path surfaces. Others on the trail were very respectful and the animal sighting were thrilling (deer that didn't run away, turtles, and birds). That and lack of vehicular traffic made this a great experience. Will definitely be back!
Not sure but it looks like they're planning some updates to the calisthenics/bar/playground area in the front. It's currently caution-tapped off and they look like they're planting new sod maybe. They added bathrooms since I was last here. One wheelchair accessible. There is a water fountain but no didn't check if it was working or if it was for dogs/bottles too
This past summer, I needed to find a good trail during my visit to this area. I looked at this one and read the reviews, and decided to give it a go as I needed to do some of my marathon training along this trail. There are plenty of shaded stretches good for keeping one out of the summer sun. I'm excited to be back for a visit to this trail again in the winter!
Fantastic that the county provides greenways like this throughout Charlotte. Well maintained and fun for a run, walk, or bike ride. Parking lot available at start, with at restrooms and rudimentary bike repair station. Can get crowded on nice days, but thins out once you get away from the trailhead. Occasional interpretatiave nature signs.
Walked this nice trail over the weekend. Covered almost 6 miles, from McMullen Creek, past McAlpine Creek, all the way to Four Mile Creek. Took 4 hours to walk back and forth(12miles). Quite many different types of animals and insects along the way. Lots of people using this Greenway on the weekend.
This is a special place. I love working out here, long walks, bike rides, picnic tables and benches. Sometimes you'll see squirrels and deer; be careful of the bugs and snakes. There's multiple routes and they all look different depending on the season, you won't regret it!
This greenway is perfect for walkers, joggers, runners, cyclists, and even for people wanting to find space to sit and enjoy nature, or read a great book. McMullen Greenway is gravel, has boardwalks, and is eventually paved. It's a hidden, tranquil gem in a busy area.
I love going to McMullen Creek Greenway! The views are beautiful! It is always clean. It's eight miles out and back. At the four mile post you can continue on to the 4 Mile Greenway for extra miles. Please look out for Patrick and call the owner!
The Greenways here in Charlotte are all really nice. McMullen is gravel and boardwalks. It is connected to mcAlpine which is paved. McMullen has a single porta-pot. McAlpine has standing restrooms. Trails are subject to flooding after heavy rains
Best greenway you'll find for many miles. Mixed surface trail and lots of shady woods for casual bike rides. Nearby to cvs and other stores if you need a bottle of water, smoothie, starbucks, etc.
I find this trail good for biking , walking and running. Lots of greenery and maximum part of the trail is covered with trees from both side. So no worries you can walk run any time of the day..
Nice path but know this isn't a park, its just a nice long path with people's houses on both sides. Their back lawns go literally up to the path. Like strolling through the neighbors backyard.
Four serene Greenway miles including one mile unpaved on the Rt. 51 end. Facilities at Johnson Rd. and porta johns at Pineville Matthews Rd. parking lot. Trail will wash out during heavy rain.
Dove puoi passeggiare e fare attività fisica tra il verde senza essere disturbata da rumori o da altro... in sicurezza.... I vigilantes controllano il percorso in bicicletta, è fantastico!!!
Living in the city for as long as I have, it was a breath of fresh air to actually walk in the woods. I didn't plan on it, but ended up walking about 3 miles and enjoyed every minute of it.
The most interesting greenway in Charlotte. You can bike, run, or walk 6 miles to Trader Joe's and Starbucks on Rea Road. Frequent encounters with deer, hawks, owls, and waterfowl.
Trail varies from gravel to wooden boardwalk to pavement. Has a few hills but overall, decent for a run and great for a bike ride if you make it all the way to Rea road and back.
Natural space in a busy world. Good for walks, runs, bikes, and dogs on leashes. Portapotty, benches and picnic tables make the place versatile and full of opportunities.
We love to hike and often take day trips to the mountains on the weekends. This weekend we didn't have time for that though, so we came here to still get outside.
The closest you will get to nature in Charlotte without driving far. It's a easy trail to ride bicycles on. There are a lot of trees so there is a lot of shade.
Very peaceful greenway with beautiful boardwalks. Sometimes when you're walking here it's easy to forget just how densely populated south Mecklenburg is.
Scenic greenway area through the wooded area beside McMullen Creek. It was a great place to come and get some exercise in an attractive outdoor area.
Found this walking trail today while in Pineville. Very clean and well cared for. Definitely worth taking the time to hike and enjoy the scenery.
Spacious, Close to where I was Looking and Location to where I was staying. Plenty of Family Walker's & Pets, and Bike Riding on Nature's Path
Nice trail for a bike ride, just wish walkers would equally and respectfully single file share the path just for a second for a biker to pass.
Great Greenway for walking and running with occasional sighting of wildlife. Connects up to the Four Mile Creek and Lower McAlpine Greenway.
Wasn't too thrilled with this Greenway. The trail beings in a park and takes you across traffic serval times of you follow the entire path.
Excellent place to get a little exercise. There are distance markers so you know when is a good time to turn back and it seemed very safe.
5-10 degrees cooler on the Greenway. Beautiful views. A beautiful, serene environment for a ice bike ride, run it casual walk.
95% shaded and relatively flat. It's a bit of a drive for me but might be my new running spot, especially in this heat lately.
Please fix the waterfountain. Love the trail but people need a place to wash their hands and refill their water bottles.
The first part was a little muddy after the rains . The are is beautiful and was quite on the weekday when we went there
Beautiful wooded trails, lots of deer both fawn and bucks. Excellent place to enjoy a day savoring trees and birds.
This a very nice park with lots of green space and places to run or walk or play soccer. There is a dog park also.
Great place to walk and see great scenery but the mile is not paved which might be a turn off for some people
Convenient parking, drinking water, portapotties with hand sanitizer and a shady wooded bike/walking path.
Great trail for running or biking with kids. Very flat and plenty of wildlife (deer, ducks, and turtles)
Great trail for a walk or bike ride. Mostly paved, but there is some packed stone/earth trails.
Great Greenway in Charlotte. Run on it with my daughter for her summer cross country training.
Trails are in good shape. Sad to see all the trash thrown from cars on 485 and Carmel Road.
Great 4 mile greenway with pullup and dip bar station at the 51 entrance and 2 mile marker.
Greenway trail with a creek running along side. Great for bike riding or walking :)
Great walk through the woods, with clear markers and occasional animal sightings.
Hidden and great trial for run and bike ride. It's shaded and limited parking

Great place for a run with very little noise. Seems nicely secluded.
This greenway is more like a trail but its nice and very well kept.
