"My favorite large park in Jacksonville"
"Beautiful park built to remember the 1200 Floridians who died in "The Great War""
"Your appreciation for Memorial Park will truly depend on what you look for in a park"
"Beautiful, on the river, great place for families! Sad that the water took down the barriers again! There's no playground, but there's plenty of room for them to run!The only picnic area is the one you build in the grass and there aren't any restrooms unless you want to walk across the street and buy something from Starbucks"
"This is a nice park"
My favorite large park in Jacksonville. Right on the River in Riverside, just down the street from 5 points. This park is really special. Memorial Park is a beautiful, riverfront park found in the 5 Points area of Riverside. The park has a rich history, it was designed by the renowned Olmsted Brothers firm who are famous for parks like Central Park in New York. The main feature of the park is the bronze sculpture Life, created by the celebrated Charles Adrian Pillars. This statue honors the Floridians that died in service during World War I. The substantial sculpture is back dropped by the St. Johns River making for a wonderful photo opportunity. The open grass area is great for a picnic or tossing a frisbee. Restoration is still underway from extensive hurricane damage a few years ago.
Beautiful park built to remember the 1200 Floridians who died in "The Great War". Large grassy area and a great view of the water, the focal point is the fountain with a huge statue in the center. One can speculate what statue depicts as theres a winged person standing atop a sphere with people protruding around the persons feet. Completed in 1924 this park is holding up well with alot of charm it draws from the surrounding buildings that are circa 1940's. Parking is a bit of a hassle, Publix is the closes place as the street parking probably fills up rapidly. Pet friendly, leave the skateboards at home. Don't miss this if youre in Jacksonville.
Your appreciation for Memorial Park will truly depend on what you look for in a park. Do you want to take a stroll and enjoy the scenery? Then this is the place. Do you want to sit down and have a picnic? Then maybe you’d be better off going to the duck pond park down the road. Ultimately there is not much to do here other than walk, and some amenities would be appreciated, like picnic tables perhaps, but it’s a comparatively pleasant park.
Restrooms
No restrooms
Picnic area
No picnic area. Be prepared to bring a mat or towel to sit down on
Beautiful, on the river, great place for families! Sad that the water took down the barriers again! There's no playground, but there's plenty of room for them to run!The only picnic area is the one you build in the grass and there aren't any restrooms unless you want to walk across the street and buy something from Starbucks. There are plenty of benches and it's a beautiful place to be, day or night! Even with a lack of all that stuff it's still one of my son and my favorite places to go have a picnic and just be by the water!
This is a nice park. Very lovely place to walk and enjoy outdoors. There are people there enjoying the St John's River, fishing, jogging, exercising, and taking in the beautiful scenery. There's an older feel to the area with the historical homes. There are small shops, galleries, beauty parlors and restaurants to enjoy. Starbucks & Publix supermarket is close. There are condos, VERY EXPENSIVE, on the water. Also duplexes with rental units, not on the water, that are affordable.
Amazing River front park. Tree lined walking path. Best place for watching squirrels Lots of shade and green grass to relax. Benches galore to sit and people watch. Very clean with lots of trash cans. Faucets turn on to fill you doggy bowl. Entrance has poop bag dispenser if you forget to bring your own. Posting this July 2022. There is construction at the statue area till fall. Unfortunately no human restrooms. Lots of nearby businesses to go explore
It was such a nice day out! Standing there watching and listening to the waves was so relaxing. It was a quick stop before heading home from my trip and I'm so glad that we made the stop there!
Dog-friendliness
There were a lot of dogs in the park! It made me wish I had a dog to bring there!
Picnic area
There were a handful of families with blankets spread out having picnics. There were also some benches around the park.
What a nice park, a jewel right here in our city. Nestled in a beautiful community that's been established for many years (Riverside/Avondale). Whether it's early morning or late evening on a nice sunny day, this is the perfect spot to be. It is located near restaurants, stores, condos, and shopping plazes and yet isolated peaceful near the St. John's River. It's a must experience park, so get out and explore this small, beautiful park.
This place was a vibe. Everyone was friendly. When they made eye contact they smile and spoke. Don't see that too much where I'm from lol. The scenery was awesome. I really would like to move there one day.
Dog-friendliness
They have a place for you pet to eat and drink water!!! There is also doggy bags for.... you know...lol
Picnic area
I think there is a picnic area but you can go on the grass and enjoy a meal.
What a beautiful place to enjoy so peace by the river side. The park has an open grassy area, great to toss a Frisbee or football around. There's a path around the park that you can walk/run. There are several restaurants and a Publix grocery store within a short distance so you can grab food to go and have a nice outdoor dining experience. There are benches that line the park and the water's edge to just sit and relax on.
A gem of a park in the Riverside Avondale historic neighborhood. Designed the the Olmsted’s of Chicago (Frederick Olmsted designed New York City’s Central Park) this park on the river with the statue “Life” by Pillars is the gateway to Riverside Avondale. There are plenty of ongoing activities in this park, from yoga, soccer and frisbee football to strolling around catching Pokémon, this is a park enjoyed by many.
Great place to go for a stroll. On dry days, bring a blanket to spread out in the open field. You'll see kids playing, photographers doing their thing, couples on a stroll, people fishing. The breeze is lovely and every so often you'll see dolphins in the river. I always enjoy my time here. There are water sources and bowls for the dogs but no bathrooms. Restaurants are in walking distance.
We adore memorial park. It is spacious and beautiful. A great place for community events, birthdays, and we have even seen weddings and church groups meeting here. I like to sit on a blanket and paint while the kids ride bikes, catch lizards, climb trees, and play with tons of other children. We also enjoy playing Pokémon go here as there are several gyms and poke stops in the area.
This is a beautiful park to take a walk or even just sit on the bench or the grassy field and enjoy the day. We happened to go on a perfect day and got wonderful views of the sun setting while taking in the beautiful weather. If you’re in the riverside or downtown area I would come here just to unwind a little. You definitely don’t feel like you’re in the middle of a big city here.
Beautiful historic park in Rivrrside, on the St John's River. There is a great view of downtown Jacksonville. The grounds are well kept and the structures are being well maintained. The monument in the center is inspiring. It's a nice place to relax, picnic, meditate, exercise, walk, run, bike, or read. It's a peaceful place.
Picnic area
There is a large lawn for picnicking
I'm always wary on this side of town, and I hope you are too. Despite certain circumstances, Riverside is still beautiful. Every time we pass through, it's mandatory to stop at Memorial for at least a few minutes. It's difficult to find/feel a true sense of community in these tumultuous times. That love still radiates here. I hope it lasts a long time!!!
A nice park on the west side, just outside of downtown; near a coffee/bagel shop and nice grocery store with a patio. A large sculpture focal point and a great view of the intercoastal waterway, however there's no boat ramps or piers. A lot of people go jogging and walking and it's features a good sized grass area for dog walking.
I will always love this park. My wife and I have so many years of memories here. I think I took my final photos of this park after hurricane Irma. I used this park for so many photo sessions, important conversations, and meeting up with friends. It’s a beautiful punctuation to the many iterations of Riverside’s five points.
Great mainstream park with a view of the river. There are always diverse people doing all kinds of interesting stuff. It is really clean with old trees and a large field. I knocked off a star because the concrete rails are broken from the storm and hasn't been repaired. Update- they fixed the railing... Its very nice!
Beautiful Park! It's not huge but there are are a few shady nooks that you can hang out in, and a big open field where people play foot ball, workout, or just lay around. It only looses a star because there are often people walking around begging for money, but you get that everywhere is riverside.
Every time I'm in Jacksonville, this is one of my go to parks. It's always serene and the views are impeccable. Whether you're meeting an old friend, spending time with someone special, or just unwinding after a long week, this park is worth visiting every time. Might catch a nice fish or two too.
Great Park to visit after Church on Sunday. Super water views. Young at heart for most folks there. Bring a blanket for a picnic, or a football for a quick game. Dog friendly for sure. Lots of shopping and eateries within walking distance. Did not see a public bathroom and parking was sketchy.
This park tends to run a little crowded but it's nice. The riverfront pathway is nice and the fountain/sculptures are great. You can definitely snag some good pictures here. Also the grassy area is nice for picnic. Parking is typically in short supply but never too bad.
Always nice and clean. We’ve hosted several photo shoots & yoga events here without much interference from park goers. Everyone is so respectful of sharing the space here. Parking is a big issue but most people know to park in a nearby plaza and walk over if possible
Very family and pet friendly. Beautiful view of the water and if your patient you can see dolphins.
Dog-friendliness
Plenty of areas to allow your dog to run, play, sniff and explore.
Picnic area
Large areas that are tree covered, perfect for a picnic.
This is a GREAT spot for families, it's our favorite park to visit for a walk or a cute little picnic & quality family time!! It's very quiet & the scenery is beautiful!! I met the love of my life in this park almost two years ago, we go back often!!❤️
Memorial Park is on the beautiful river. You have plenty of room for activities of any kind on the large grassy lawn. The shade trees are amazing and you can walk across the street for tacos, coffee or anything else Riverside/Five Points has ro offer.
Beautiful and peaceful park on the water. Next to all kinds of shops and dining-five points in riverside
Dog-friendliness
Lots of dog walkers and plenty open field to play fetch.
Picnic area
No tables or anything just big open space.
Repairs are going slowly since Hurricane Matthew but this park is still a jewel in Jacksonville's Emerald Necklace. A stunning spot to admire the sunset and people watch. Some of the best public art pieces in town. Highly recommend for your visit.
Beautiful park on the banks of the St. Johns River, the centerpiece is this sculpture by Charles Pillars named 'Spiritualized Life'. The sculpture was dedicated on Christmas Day in 1924 to honor the 1,760 Floridians who were killed in World War I.
Excellent spot for peace and quiet with either your family for an outing day for fishing or even just taking a day to relax. The beautiful Jacksonville area and the Saint John's River is home to the areas most exciting fishing on the East Coast.
This park is iconic for Jacksonville, and a great place to visit. You'll often find people having a picnic in the park, playing sports or exercising, or just sitting down to relax. It's a beautiful park, and you can't beat the scenery.
Beautiful little park tucked away by the river. We drove into town from Atlanta and stopped here to catch the sunset before moving on towards our hotel. The marble benches along the riverside were VERY cold in the 47 degree weather.
This was a pleasant visit to Memorial Park. It is beautiful and the vista of Jacksonville and St. John's River is stunning. This is a good place for relaxation . This is a must visit place while in Jacksonville, Florida .
If this doesn't define Jacksonville I don't know what will. Lashes and underwear on the angelic statue, and felony threats for crossing through a non-existent construction site. Grass and trees were nice though.
Memorial Park is always a pleasant experience. The history is important to remember All those Who gave the ultimate sacrifice to make the world a better safer place for people like me and you. DEANPATRICKHAYDEN
Cute little park by St. johns river! Really nice quiet place to read a book or hangout with friends! It would have been nice if there were public services available (such as Restroom, water fountains, etc. )
Oh, this park is so lovely and right in the water in a gorgeous part of town with lots of restaurants. We listened to the Navy band on Memorial Day and it was wonderful. Will definitely go again next year.
One of my favorite parks in Jacksonville! It is always bustling with people, but never seems to be overcrowded. Great river views. Close to five points so you can grab a meal and easily picnic in the park.
Well kept grounds. Beautiful sculptures. The people visiting are either walking thru, laying in the grass or fishing off the pier. No bigger than a city block.
Playground
No playground.
Very nice park with a beautiful view. It is a great park to sit and look at the water or sit and have lunch. There is no playground just benches and an area where I saw people playing soccer.
This park is very nice...Great for relaxing and looking at the water. It is stroller friendly but the pathway that circles the park isn’t very long if your truly looking to break some sweat..
Clean and well kept park with a walking trail and a big lawn. Perfect for a picnic, yoga, or a jog. There is a view over looking the St. John's river and a beautiful fountain and statue.
It was beautiful!! We laid in the grass and enjoyed the incredible weather. It was clean and people were friendly. Memorial Park is definitely one of my favorite local parks. …
It is beautiful park.. When I was here I had nice walk with my son.. some nice points for photography ... While you are in Jacksonville manage your time to visit .. Recomended
The park was clean and well kept. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars was there was no bathroom. We spent hours there at the park but had to leave to go find a bathroom.
Nice inner city park. Large open field some nice bronze statues. Park is on intercoastal . Several people where fishing along the bank. They said it was a good place to fish.
Good amount of parking nearby. Beautiful park by the river with nice landscaping. Great place for a picnic date with lots of great eats in walking distance.
Its always wonderful to watch the Tide roll in by the water. I love that they keep it as clean as it can,no bums ,yucking up the area ,but they are around !
Lovely place by the water, and very close to all the amenities of riverside. Take a book or lunch.. Lay in the grass and check out.. Can't go wrong here.
A beautiful spot to enjoy the greenery and the fresh smells of blooming flowering plants, the company of small critters, read a book, and have a picnic!
Very nice park. Open scenic views. Restaurants and coffee shops nearby. Parking is limited. Pet friendly, but not all owners pick up after their pets.
I love to go walking in this park. Hurricane Idalia did a number on this place and it’s currently under construction but you can still walk the park.
I enjoyed the walk through and around the park. Although I missed all of the Memorial Day festivities, it was good to see the park back together.
A beautiful small Park, to have a Lunch Break or to just sit down and enjoy the surroundings. I really liked it and will definitely visit again.
Very clean and peaceful, whether you're alone or with someone else. Great for personal or shared quiet time sitting on a blanket on the grass.
Park is okay. Fairly clean Nice place to relax, sit in the grass or even in the benches and just enjoy the day . But there are homeless people
Beautiful. A must see if you're in Jax. Great place for a picnic, even in the Fog.
Dog-friendliness
Plenty of dogs walking around.
Nice, small and cozy park with the river view. Enjoyed watching the dolphins playing and hunting fish in the water near the shore line.
Beautiful day at Memorial Park on the St. John's River. Sad to see the bulstrade has been washed out again, guess the tides are rising.
It would have been great to see and hang out, except it's under construction and it was raining, so we didn't get to enjoy it.
Beautiful park! It is the third oldest park in Jacksonville, built in 1919. The park was built to honor World War 1 veterans.
Small, but so cute! I wish there was further sidewalk access along the river though. Either way, nice park to stop and relax
Beautiful landscape but the construction made me give it the lower score but I will return and hopefully it will be 5 stars.
Amazing location and views of the riverside. Lovely place to spend sometime. There is a nice Thai restaurant near the park.
Nice park to hang out and enjoy the outdoors. There are no bathrooms and no play area though, which is a downside for some.
A beautiful place to be and enjoy the beauties of God's work in his Creations are amazing they need to be appreciated more
Nice! Atmosphere, people friendly. Security Officers was out and about. The view of the river. The breeze was awesome!
A beautiful park but sadly, it is overrun with aggressive homeless people. Don’t go here alone or after it gets dark.
Beautiful park so relaxing great fishing spot. Perfect for a nice picnic. Great place to go walking or on a nice jog.
This is my little baby Lady, we really enjoy walking around this area and she loves to take a break in the park .
Really beautiful park. Perfect place to have a picnic. Lots of space, lots of nature and statues, just beautiful!
We did a mini puppy play time with just a few pups and we had a fabulous time! Oh my pups are Best Behaved Pups!
Great open space and walking trail with wonderful views of the water. Not enough parking or any bathroom areas.
Best place to do dog training! Lots of people, lots of dogs and lots of great places to walk around and work.
Have had really great memories here. Beautiful for taking photos especially during morning hours …
An awesome place to think clear your head to take a walk. Just great atmosphere all the way around.
Lovely vista of St Johns River.mello spot. The sculpture from the citizens is excellent too!
A good place to just get out and let the bothers melt away. Environment felt safe.
Beautiful such a relaxing park. Great place to sit and meditate.
