After coming to this establishment for years I’m disgusted. I called this morning and Melissa put me hold before I could get a word in... she NEVER came back on the line which prompted me to call again. The 2nd representative, Christina, who answered had no idea anyone was on hold and helped me to the best of her ability with locating my records and how to go about getting them. I assume she was new though because she kept asking my doctors’ nurse questions. idk his name but he’s on only male nurse there... he eventually got on the phone and asked me what I needed? As if I didn’t spend the past 5 minutes discussing that with Christine. He stated that I could call the previous office which I planned on doing and stated that because Christina gave me the number. I was then TRYING to ask what I could do if the other office didn’t have it.... which in my opinion is a GENERAL question anyone in the medical should have an answer for. However I couldn’t get my question out because he kept talking over me and interrupting me. I asked him to stop and he continued to talk over me. I wanna say his name is Daniel but I could’ve made that up. BUT AGAIN, he’s the only male nurse there. He’s also the same nurse who gave me false info about my insurance during my last visit. Dr. Marin has been nothing short of pleasant these past couple of years and it’s sad that I will be parting with this establishment due to their lack of professionalism & and poor customer service skills.

I have never written a review of any business, I'll just start with that. That being said, this a DOCTOR'S OFFICE and very sad excuse for one at that. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional staff on any level in my entire life, so bad in fact that I am taking time out my day in hopes that others don't make the same mistake. Laziest, sickliest, most pathetic front desk you've ever witnessed, you will never get anyone on the phone... much less, you can't even leave a voicemail if you wanted to. Prescriptions filled? Good luck. Need an appointment? Have a good time with that. God forbid you need YOUR medical records sent anywhere else. They will withhold them until hell freezes over. The phones dont work, the fax doesn't work, because the people don't work. My ultimate hope in writing this review is that Dr. Marin, who was actually great when I could see him or correspond with him, reads this and changes his support staff (with the exception of a nurse named Sam, he was great as well). I haven't read one review here that speaks poorly of either doctors and I agree. But nearly all of them bash the staff and rightfully so. The rest of the crew there is the most unmotivated and pitiful group of "professionals" in any realm. Until that changes I would highly suggest ANYWHERE else for your medical needs.

Most unprofessional and incompetent doctors office I've ever experienced. After receiving a voice mail because I missed a call from their office, I call back and leave a message saying I was returning their call. They then call me back to find out why I was calling. On top of this, I did all the work of finding a specialist under my insurance plan. They call to argue with me that they can't do a simple Google search to find the phone number (I had already provided the fax number). So I did that and found the information they needed in less than 2 seconds. But let's all just waste more of our time going through this nonsense... On top of that the staff was talking about specific patients (including name) right in front of me when I got to the front desk to check in. Can anyone say HIPAA violation? Of course saying hello is too much to ask and they could not waste their time greeting me or at least smiling. The phlebotomist couldn't answer my questions and told me instead to ask someone else instead of finding the answer to my question. Simply put there is zero patient care going on here. I am a physician myself. I know how to care for patients.

Dr. Maldonado is truly amazing - as a person and as a doctor. If you are looking for a general physician look no further than Dr. Maldonado. He personally takes an interest in his patients and remembers details about them. He has an excellent bedside manner predicated on healing you and educating you about whatever illness and symptoms you may have. The entire staff is kind which is really surprising to read some of the reviews on here. Keep in mind that they deal with many patients, often not in the best of moods because they're sick. We are all human and have off days. Personally this wouldn't be a consideration in terms of whether I want to receive care from the doctor. Give them another chance everyone is very sweet. Dr. Maldonado knows what he is doing and at the end of the day that matters the most. He’s my doctor for life. He’s also bilingual and studied at a top school (University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine) so know that you are in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Maldonado and Midtown Family Medicine without reservation.

To prospective new patients—find another doctor’s office. To Midtown Family Medicine—PLEASE improve your phone etiquette. As most other reviewers note, the phone etiquette of this office truly ruins what could be an otherwise phenomenal office with outstanding doctors and nurses. It is THAT bad—hours-long stretches of not answering the phone during regular business hours, at random hours the phone is just off the hook for several hours and going straight to voicemail during regular business hours, unreturned messages, and misinformation regarding insurance coverage. For the past ~3 years I have been going here this has not changed, and likely won’t anytime soon. Truly a shame. Two stars for the facility/office, 5 stars for the doctors themselves, but you’ve got to ask at what point the doctors should be accountable for their staff and office practices.

I hope the Doctors read the reviews for their establishment. They had such high reviews that I called to make routine appointments for three family members today and was greeted with a gasp because I was scheduling for 3 people. Then I was told “You’re just going to have to wait”. Then I was put on hold a second time and a new person answered and quickly said we don’t take HMO only PPO. I said I would call them back. When I did I was put on hold for 13 minutes and no one ever returned to the line. A front office and unprofessional staff can tarnish your reputation no matter how great you are! Might want to remind them that it’s those people calling in to schedule appointments and client business that help pay salaries.

I was originally referred to Dr. Maldanado from a friend years ago. I have been a patient of Dr. Maldanado's for over six to seven years. He is by far the best doctor I have ever had. I have never had to wait more than ten minutes to see him, I've always been "squeezed in for emergency visits" and he's a very attentive doctor. I now live overseas and his staff always takes great care to schedule appointments for by husband and I and to make sure our Px's are taken care of for the longterm. Dr. Maldando has helped me diagnose allergies that were causing me to get get chronically sick. He's a great doctor and I would recommend him to anyone. Once we have children, I won't take them to anyone else!

Dr. Marin has been my elderly father's doctor since moving to Houston back in August 2010. My Dad is always happy with his treatment as goes every 6 mos. for blood work, prescription medicine and advice on how to take care of his health to keep healthy at his age of 78. Dr. Marin always is willing to listen to him. The office staff is always nice and helpful. I am also a patient of Dr. Marin who has always treated me for many ailments in the last 7 years with my insurance BCBS-TX and also lab work. He is a great doctor with a heavy work load of patients whom sometimes have to remember that he has many patients who are also sick especially this time of year in Houston - allergies, colds and flu.

  • Erica T

Dr. Marin is great, the nurse named Sam is great. The office staff members is what makes this practice a horrible experience. Unfortunately until the office staff gets replaced I would not recommend this practice. you will wait around for your records, prescriptions, to get worked on and have to take hours out of your day communicating between the hospital, insurance and the pharmacy. The office staff will expect you to do to this and coordinate when at most Dr.'s offices they call for you. If I could do it all over again I would not chose this practice, you will waste a lot of your time doing operations that the office staff should be doing for the patients.

  • Regina Phalange

I've been one of Dr. Marin's patients since one of the physicians at my university recommended him at least eight years ago. I usually show up with a list of concerns, and he listens carefully before offering thorough answers. While I am often grumpy because of some combination of illness, exhaustion, and pain when I see him, he is always pleasant and professional. I have appreciated his sensitivity when giving me bad news and his sense of humor at other times. The phlebotomist, whose needle somehow didn't hurt at all during my recent visit, is wonderful too.

Dr Maldonado is by far the best doctor I have ever had. He is attentive, thorough, easy to schedule, and always makes time for his patients. He is very quick and to the point, and takes the time to explain the benefits and disadvantages of any treatment you are considering. I have been coming to him for about three years now, and I hope that he continues to practice for many years to come so that I don't have to look for a new doctor!

  • Erica Alvarez

Dr Maldonado is THE BEST doctor and has literally saved my family's life. His knowedge and expertise is amazing. He is truly gifted and cares about each of his patients. My entire family sees him and we will only see Dr Maldonado. Christina his nurse is caring and kind and they always call back with my dad's lab work for his blood sugar. Great office and great staff! Sam and Christina are our favorites!! We love this place!

  • Haydee Carpy

I've been going to this doctor for years and it pains me to write this but the lady up front Stephany, not sure if I'm writing her name correct, is short with people, not nice at all! I would consider not going to this doctor again to avoid having to interact with her. That says a lot considering I've been coming here for 10 years... Dr. Marin should consider hiring someone with less of a bitchy attitude. That's all!

  • Elliott Robertson

Dr. Maldonado is a great doctor and friend. He’s very helpful, attentive and has always provided excellent care to me over the last 10 years. What pains me is the consistent and absolute rudeness of the front office staff. I dread calling the office to make an appointment or ask for a prescription refill. I know to expect an absolutely frustrating and demeaning experience every time I call, without fail.

  • Bry C

Dr. Maldonado is great, but the front desk staff is awful. I have been seeing Dr. Maldonado for years. I think I've gotten a live person on the phone once, maybe twice. I used to rely on the Pharmacy refills as the catalyst to actually receive a phone call back so I could schedule my follow-up appointments, but when the Pharmacy says, “ They won’t call us back either,” it may be time to move on.

  • Pamela Mendoza

LOVE Dr. Maldonado. He is very thorough and I like that he would rather find the root cause of a problem prior to just running tests. His staff is to be desired for; I've in the past had problems with them calling me back and the last few times I came in, he was short staffed. His quality of care outweighs the limitations of the staff. I would recommend him to anyone in the area.

  • Scott Blons

1. The lady at the front desk is extremely rude. It would be nice to have a nice person greeting you. It's discussing how cold she is to people. 2. They close for a very long time at lunch. This makes it difficult to pick up prescriptions or make appointments. Busy people use lunch for personal things like doctors visits. This office does not make it easy.

  • santry rush

The staff at the front desk was very kind and helpful. Short wait time. When i saw the doctor, he would never look me in the eye. Accused me of playing “doctor google,” when i explained symptoms and concerns. Told me that the sleep doctors the practice had a relationship with would follow up with me and that also never happened. Disappointed by MFM.

  • Bill Penczak

Despite the fact i was scheduled as the first appointment of the day, I was kept waiting for 20 minutes since all the nurses sauntered in late. They offered no apologies, and if this was the type of lax attention they pay their patients, I have a true concern about their ability to provide adequate care. I walked out and will not reschedule.

  • Tim M

Dr. Maldonado was great, listened to my concerns, and even called me to review my blood panel. The staff is, however, very disorganized. I had been waiting for urine sample results for over a week and when I finally showed up at the office (after several calls), I was informed that my sample was never shipped to the lab.

  • dee bee

Dr. Maldonado is amazing, however his front office staff is very rude. No one ever answers the phone, and when they do you are given attitude. It is extremely off putting and many times I opt to just be seen at a rediclinic. Dr. Maldonado himself is a gem - he is extremely thorough and truly cares for his patients.

  • Cade Michaels

I have read a lot of the reviews from people about the front desk staff, and in my personal opinion I do not care how the front staff acts, I only care about my doctor. I have been seeing Dr. Marin for at least 8 years now, and he is by far one of the best medical professionals I have ever been to.

  • Charles Alvarez

When I can see him, Dr. Maldonado has been great. However his phones almost always roll to a "full mailbox", and when I did finally get a person, they were so rushed they hung up on me. Not very professional staff, and unfortunately, will have me looking for alternatives.

  • HTx Guy

The doctors are great. The horrible part is trying to make an appointment. They never answer the phone. Half the time you can’t even leave a message because the mailbox is full. If you are lucky enough to leave a message they never return your call. Frustrating.

  • Omid Meh

The doctor's visit was ok, it was physical and they answered my questions, although rushed. But it's so hard to get a hold of the staff. It takes many calls (sometimes from different numbers) for them to pick up and never got my messages returned.

  • Jenale “Antwan” Scarlett

I was hoping to not add to the already negative reviews, but the nurse Sam claimed to have gave my prescription to CVS 3 days ago... I continue to call them everyday and they have no record of a new prescription. What's the hold up?!!

  • Abdullah Malik

I have been going to Dr. Marin for 2 years now since moving to Houston. He is by far the best doctor I have ever had. Dr. Marin really cares about his patients and I have seen much improvement in my health.

  • David Williams

This Doctor is awesome! Been going to him since 2008. When I got laid off I chose to pay out of pocket instead of getting free services from the county. You will not go wrong with Dr. Marin.

  • Christopher Busby

Been going here for years and have always had a good experience with Dr. Marin. Never had any major issues. Always operating at a reasonable pace and very rarely have had a major wait time.

  • Jeremy Pudlo

Dr Maldonado is the best. However, the front staff is terrible. They rarely pick up the phone and never return messages. It takes multiple phone calls just to schedule an appointment.

  • Steve Jurica

Good luck ever getting a person on the phone. Good luck being able to leave a message. The front desk staff is not all that friendly. The DR's and nurses are very nice.

  • Chris Livingston

Dr. Maldonado is excellent. This practice is very busy because of the physicians and despite some of the reviews, the practice has always been very nice.

  • Jennifer Tucker

I absolutely love Dr. Marin and his PA! They are super helpful, super quick and listen to your needs. I drive from Clear Lake just to see them! 5 stars!!

  • ZaZa _

I’ve been seeing Dr. Marin since 2007. The staff is friendly and prompt. Dr. Marin is awesome as well. -D’Lesa Freire, 06/15/2020.

Agree regarding the staff in front not being great. Just not friendly and had issues with communication that was frustrating

Continuously disappointed with the lazy staff and ridiculous policies. Too much bureaucracy. Too little care.
