According to My. Bonnell website, one should bring plenty of water and sunscreen. It's really hot and barely any shade. Also not recommended if you have mobility issues since the only way up is through 100 "or so steps". If you're visiting and never been to Mount Bonnell I recommend you check out their website. Here's some of their recommendations: "It is advised you bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat for your Mt Bonnell hike. There are small shaded areas on the viewing platform, but the best views of Texas Hill Country are often in direct sunlight. The terrain is also largely rocky and therefore sturdy shoes are recommended. There are a few areas where you can enjoy a lunch at picnic tables, but remember whatever you bring to your Mount Bonnell hike, you will need to carry it up the 100 or so steps."

This is where you'll get the best view of the entire Austin area, including the Colorado River and downtown skyline. There's a flight of stairs built into the side of the mountain that takes you straight up to the peak, so it's easy to get to where the best views are. There are also a few rockier trails if you want to venture further. There are also some beautiful homes to gawk at. Since affluent areas are usually very well policed, it was surprising when a local mentioned that cars get broken into. We had no such problems, perhaps because we made a point to park right in front of the security camera, as he recommended.

Mount Bonnell, oh what a sight, A place that fills you with delight, A hill that stands so tall and proud, A place where nature sings out loud. The view from here is simply grand, A sight that's truly in demand, The city skyline, oh so bright, A view that fills you with delight. The climb up here is not that steep, And views of downtown you can keep, Some of the huge homes on Lake Austin, Are also visible without any fussin'. So come and visit Mount Bonnell, And let your heart just simply swell, For this is a place that's truly grand, A place that's simply in demand.

Parking is along the street. There are a BUNCH of steps that take you to the top. At the top, there is a covered area for you to sit, catch your breath, and view the city. There are short walking trails that lead to other viewing areas. Some of the trails have steep steps, so wear comfortable shoes. There was some trash along the trails, but over all, a peaceful area to view some beautiful sights.

This was a beautiful overlook seeing the river, cool properties, and Austin off in a distance. There are lots of opportunities to get close up with some of the foliage and some fauna. Go when it is cooler. Also we saw piles of broken glass in the parking lot... presumably car windows based on colors. Nothing happened to ours but I would be cautious.

Fantastic views of the city and river! A short hike up some stairs is required to reach the top, and may not be suitable for everyone, so be aware. Please pick up after yourself to keep the park clean, too many people come up to drink and leave trash everywhere! Its free, no tickets or anything like that. Parking can be limited!

It is a nice and beautiful place and has a good view of the Colorado River, but it is questionable to me that there is such a high place and a very dangerous cliff that if someone falls down, he will definitely die, why not make it safer by putting up a fence?!! I think this is a very big negative point, be careful with children, especially because it is usually windy up there, it can be dangerous for children

  • K RV

A “must see” site in Austin, Texas. A steep climb up a lot of steps or along a winding path. Views are spectacular. You can see the Colorado River, and riverside homes down below. Great view of Austin skyline. Amazing sunset views. . Parking may difficult at times, but is free. CAUTION: Don’t leave anything clearly visible in your car. Unfortunately, people have been robbed of items left in their cars.

A breathtaking view of Lake Austin..the cottages n villas alongside the lake is a view to behold..the view from some of the vantage points are phenomenal...It's a short climb of 80 odd steps to the most scenic view of Austin city

Great view covering the colarado river and the neighbourhood. There are two hiking routes to the top of the mountain. Alternatively you can take the paved road to the top and climb the stairs as well. Great scenery.

Limited parking. Well worth the visit. I recommend taking the tour to see the park. However, if you want to hike around and stay awhile, you will need to drive there. Beautiful views, hard to describe how beautiful.

This is an incredible hike up Mount Bonnell. When you reach the top you can look down over the river and see incredibly gorgeous homes. This walk is not for the faint of heart. Covered in rocks and no paved paths, be ready with your walking shoes because sandals won’t work. Plan to stay and enjoy the incredible views over Austin

  • Christian Knapp

Easy hike (really just 1 or 2 minutes from the parking location) for an incredible view. Witnessed a proposal and there were many folks taking photos. Great spot for picnics. Family friendly

We went up a long set of stairs to a spectacular view! There is way more to the place, I heard of a trail that's a loop. Don't leave anything visible in your car. Smash and grabs are common.

The views when the air isn't hazy are excellent. From the center and toward the right, people can overlook the Colorado River Valley. If one ventures far enough left, there is a picnic table people can stand on for a clear view of the Austin skyline.

  • Kristin Nelson

Absolutely spectacular views and an easy "hike" for the entire family. I can't wait to go back when it's less crowded.

Super cool place to see the sunrise! Good short hike to the top! If you don’t want to take the stairs there is a optional path down the road to the right of the steps that wraps around the back to the top!

  • Tania Sullivan
