"This is a good hardware store with smart people working and I hope SD locals support it because, even though, yes, you can order stuff online, we need and want a store in our community where we can find the things we need that weekend when something breaks and we can't wait for something that might or might not be the exact right thing you hope it is to arrive"
"Although I'm sure it's a great shop with lots of hardware the phone service I received was no good"
"I LOVE this tiny hardware store with the giant selection and very reasonable prices! If you live in the North Park area you owe it to yourself and your dwelling to make a visit"

"I can't believe how much stuff they have crammed into this little shop"
This is a good hardware store with smart people working and I hope SD locals support it because, even though, yes, you can order stuff online, we need and want a store in our community where we can find the things we need that weekend when something breaks and we can't wait for something that might or might not be the exact right thing you hope it is to arrive. You can call and ask if they have what you need--it is a small store, and if you can be exact in your description they can tell you. If you are like me and have only a vague sense of what you want, it could require a trip over but I've found the owner to be very helpful and as psychic as someone who doesn't know what you mean because you don't know what you mean can be. Prices are good here. Before supporting that a/prime soul-crushing monstrosity that will be happy when they are no more independently owned stores left in the world, please support your own community! I say this as a person who is outta here in six months, but I hope the local hardware store sticks around longer.
Although I'm sure it's a great shop with lots of hardware the phone service I received was no good. I was looking for a 3/8 inch lap-ink or chain connector in galvanized not zinc plated. The man on the phone just kept telling me he had lots of SS carabaners or something that would work. I told him it was coast guard specifications for marine applications and I needed that specific part. He told me to come down.. I doubt they have it I'm not risking my time better spent writing this review. Thanks for the help.... how hard is it to look at your selection and tell me before I waste time and gas to drive down. It would have been a real inconvenience for me to do that. It's not like you've invested anything in your poor website to help customers know what you carry. Get with the program. There's something to be said about customers service here :(
I LOVE this tiny hardware store with the giant selection and very reasonable prices! If you live in the North Park area you owe it to yourself and your dwelling to make a visit. Their selection is wide and varried but generally geared toward what is most needed for basic home repair and for the age of homes in the area (construction boom during the early to mid 20th century). The guys roaming the store and behind the counter may appear a bit gruff, but all you have to do is engage them and they'll be happy to find exactly what you're looking for. On that note, don't bother roaming or you could get lost in the menagerie. Rather, just ask someone for what you're looking for right off the bat and you'll save a bunch of time and frustration.
It is surprising what a variety of useful items they can stock in this little place. I went to Home Depot to look for a stem valve to replace on a faucet. The plumbing fellow told me it was too old and to go to Ideal Plumbing Supply. I rushed over there worrying that we might have to have the water turned off all weekend if I didn't make it. The guy was helpful but was ready to close up for the day so he also couldn't find what I wanted right away. On the way back I stopped in at North Park Hardware. The old gentleman found just the valve and handle I needed. They do know their stuff here. Also a good place to go if you need just a few screws or nails of a certain size, not a whole box of them.
I can't believe how much stuff they have crammed into this little shop. Unless I'm buying lumber, I never have to go anywhere but here for projects around the house. Since I've discovered this hardware store, I'm no longer worried about having to buy 10,000 screws at a big box store. I can buy the two number 10 machine screws that I need to hang the blackboard as opposed to the entire mounting kit. Which isn't to say they don't have full boxes as well. It's just a nice change of pace to be able to find what I'm actually looking for in North Park without having to battle the traffic at ACE downtown or in Hillcrest or drive all the way to Sports Arena to get what I need.
love hardware stores, especially small quirky ones. This one is definitely small and quirky. -so, perfect location. Knowledgeable staff. Super "helpful" guys. Surprisingly large product aasortment. North Park Hardware has been around for a very long time. There is always at least 1 or 2 people who are looking for some random house part or window screen repair thingamajingee that cannot be found anywhere else on the continent except North Park Hardware. And, yet, it seems that the inventory never changes. Everything seems to be in the exact place where it has been since the 1952, or when the store first opened. That is why I love NP Hardware. It never changes.
Good selection, poor pricing. Have enjoyed the convenience of a local shop the past year, but some price differences and a surprise 10% fee on returns I learned about today will keep me at Home Depot and Amazon. Beware the return fee. When returning an item I found for $30-40 cheaper at other stores: "Didn't think you'd bring it back or I would have mentioned it". If you want convenience and don't care too much about price, not a bad place for the necessities.
If you need last minute hardware, and don't care about quality, I guess you could go here. Broke a simple tap inside a screw hole on its first use, which obviously indicates manufacturer defect; I was tapping aluminum, nothing crazy. Well, I call the store to explain, and the manager says it doesn't have a warranty, so there's nothing he could do. Class act bro, good luck against Amazon.
I love this old fashion hardware store been a staple in north park since the 70's. Eclectic and good quality also knowledgeable sales clerks very helpful, friendly and know where everything is located also gave good tips as to the quality of items. Great experience for women navigating through tools, water hose, door knobs etc. Live Northpark Hardware been a customer since 1975
Really unfortunate that this small business in North Park has been overwhelmed by homeless people— the entrance is blocked by piles of garbage and people who are high on drugs screaming and cursing at passersby. I cannot recommend until this establishment hires security to guard its premises and prevents homeless people from camping in front of the entrance.
Long time neighborhood gem that our parents and grandparents used to take us before Home Depot so it brings back old school memories. Plus they carry unique "hard to find items" you can't get in other places. Always a good feeling supporting small local businesses. Don't forget to pick up a lemon or orange straight from the owner's tree!
I needed some screws for mounting my tv to wall / gentleman at cash register helps me get the right screws unfortunately I brought the wrong screws to him after finding out they were the wrong ones I came back and the gentleman help me again didn’t complain didn’t call me an idiot just show me the right screws a great attitudeThank you
I love the personable service here. Whatever you would get from the front half of a big box repair store, they have here. Keys. Tools. Paint. Tape. Pringles. If keeping small businesses afloat is important to you, you should definitely support North Park Hardware. They are so nice and knowledgeable, a real asset to the neighborhood.
Home Depots are great but every neighborhood needs a hardware store like this. Unmatched convenience and professionalism. I had a serious clog and the employee working behind the front desk walked me through my various options and probably saved me $200+ dollars in having to call a plumber. I didn’t get your name, but thank you!!
Sam and Jakob/Jacob served and delivered!! They ascertained I ha exactly what I needed or the installation of an EXTREMELY important family picture frame that weighs a TON. Their explanation and care will not go unnoticed! Thanks Sam!! You are going to make my girlfriend feel secure with her frame installed per your guidance!!!
This is my go to place for anything and everything I need for my home and also for craft projects. The staff are fantastic and always willing to answer my million questions about whatever project I’m working on. They are such an important part of our community and I have zero reason to ever go to Home Depot.
Although they need to work on customer service. They always have what I need. I just hate going into big box hardware stores. I get lost every time I have know choice but to use the BIG BOX LABYRINTH stores. I won't mention any names, but one starts with H and ends with E, the other has the word Depot in it.
Friendly and helpful staff, but the store is a messy and unorganized. The first two times was there what I needed was out if stock. The last time I was surprised they had everything I needed, but they sold me a 32"x32" screen frame kit, but screen that was only 30" wide. Parking can also be very difficult.
Really like this place.. a cast of characters and they do their job well! They even had the vacuum bags I needed and cheaper than anywhere else I have gotten them! It's also great not to have to buy a whole box of screws, bolts, etc. It's a real old-fashion hard-ware store, and not over priced !!!!
What a gem this is to the neighborhood! Its like a treasure hunt every time I go in; the inventory is so vast for such a small space. I dont always find the exact item Im looking for but usually find something that works. The peeps there know what they are doing and happy to assist.
Great place. Really helpful employees, whatever you need and reasonable prices! I swung by for some plumbing needs and got what I needed and did some trouble shooting with an employee. This place is definitely going to be my go-to for everything at home in the future.
I want to support local businesses, these guys make it so hard. Lack of friendliness, low product knowledge and high prices are a bad combo. Oh and no returns, so you can't take back the incorrect products they advise you on. Thanks for nada.
We're so lucky to have this place in our neighborhood. The store always has what I'm looking for, reasonable prices and the people who work there are very helpful with finding what you're looking for or what you'll need for a project
horrible inefficient layout, you basically need to ask where everything is. the employees made me feel stupid. and while hardware stores aren't exactly the most female friendly place, i'd rather just go to a home depot.
I live right around the corner and I stopped in this morning to have a couple keys made. The guys are all very helpful and friendly. AND, both keys works perfectly the first time! I will return. Great job, guys!
Great customer service very helpful reasonable prices and they had everything I needed. I would recommend going to this hardware store instead of the big hardware places convenient, quick and friendly
Great neighborhood hardware store. A bit pricey but worth the stop. They seriously have a bit of everything and cool things that I have forgotten about. Helpful with out being houndfull staff.
Been coming here for 20 years love this place. Always someone to help you out. So much better than driving to home depot, dealing with parking, crowds and trying to find help.
Excellent independent hardware store. Been going there for over a decade, staff is helpful, and the merchandise is plentiful.Much easier to get service than a big box store.
Small hardware store with selection for most smaller repair & home projects with helpful staff. When they didn't have what we were looking directed us to another place.
Great! Three times I've needed plumbing assistance due to emergency situation & each time the employees have given & recommended the right item to solve my problems!!!
Love this place and they have everything!! The owner and associates know soooo much about home repair and they don't make you feel like an idiot for asking questions!
The best place to go that I know locally. They almost always have everything I need, family-owned and I support a neighborhood business instead of a big corporation.
Great neighborhood shop with friendly, helpful staff. I always find what I was looking for and usually more! Worth a drive if you are not in the neighborhood...
Really cool shop with very knowledgeable employees way better than Home Depot and Lowes. These guys know their stuff and willing to help you just need to ask.
Helpful staff and in a neighborhood of old bungalows.. just ask. Chances are, they can help when the large hardware/home improvement stores have no idea.
Awesome old fashioned hardware store where you can get what you needed and if you don't know what you need the friendly staff can help you figure it out.
One of the most important thing about hardware stores is the willing to help. And that’s the main reason I shop here. Helpful and affordable.
Sincere good old fashion customer service a rarity these days bought a Weber grill in the middle of January no one else has them in stock.
Answered my question and were knowledgeable over the phone. Prompt and courteous service for my shopping experience. I would recommend.
If you live in an older North Park house and need old school plumbing parts or any general hardware.....go to North Park Hardware!
Vons, CVS, Walgreens and Baron's Market -- none had a turkey baster. This place did. They also got me a copy of my mailbox key.
This is an excellent neighborhood hardware store. If what you need is not on the shelf, they can (and will!) find it for you.
This is the kind of hardware store that I remember from eons ago. Great selection, terrific service. I could shop for hours!
Don't come to this place. People are saying fair prices.. my a@# they charge u 3 times the price at other stores. No bull!!!
This local business has the friendliest staff. I've always found exactly what I was looking for and more !
Excellent experience. The staff were very helpful and had exactly what I needed at a fair price. 10/10.
Great local hardware store with everything you need close by and an informative and knowledgeable staff
Old school hardware store. All the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. A neighborhood treasure!
They try hard. They got lots of inventory. Kevin is the nicest guy and so are the others.
Great guys running the place. I feel like they really care about our community. …
This store has so much stuff, a liitle pricey but they will have what your looking for
They have everything, and the staff are really helpful in finding whatever you need.
Small but convenient, they had the stainless steel eyelet screws I needed!
Small compared to home depot but stocks lots of stuff and helpful staff.
Charming here, but I had to go to home depot where I got better service.
Everyone was so helpful in here and helped me with everything I needed!
