You know your day has hit rock bottom when you’re in a Vet’s lobby area awkwardly trying to defend why you shouldn’t be forced to pay $250 more than the quoted price. I found Ormewood Animal Hospital online and chose them based on their mostly positive Google reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was utterly infuriating — I was quoted one price over the phone, and ended up paying almost $200 more even though absolutely nothing was wrong with my cat. We needed blood drawn in order to take my perfectly healthy cat on an intercontinental flight. Over the phone OrmewoodAH agreed to draw the blood for us to take home and send to a local lab ourselves. We were told that we would only be charged for the office visit. We called the lab to make sure we could send in the blood sample ourselves (without Vet assistance), which they insisted was fine. After the blood was drawn, the front desk asked for ~$250 more than quoted over the phone. I was shocked, given that I had spent nearly ~20mins back and forth on the phone previously with OrmewoodAH describing what needed to be done (a simple blood draw and form). They said all I needed was an office visit, since I was taking the blood sample to the lab on my own. The veterinarian said that this higher price was required because they wanted to send the blood sample to the lab themselves instead of me sending it. As we went over the situation in the lobby, he said it cost ~$60 materials and labor for the blood draw. I told him I was fine paying for the office visit and even the additional blood draw materials costs as long as I could send off the blood sample to the lab myself (which was much less expensive). He agreed and left to go get the sample. I knew something was wrong when he came back 5 minutes later empty-handed. He had spoken with the owner and they weren’t going to allow me to take the blood sample after all. I either had to pay ~$200 more than what was initially quoted, or leave with nothing. By that time, I was pretty upset. The vet offered a seemingly half-hearted apology, but by his body language (constantly looking at the ground, not making eye contact) I could tell that he wasn’t necessarily happy with the outcome either. I figured that maybe it wasn’t his decision to make. Given that I had taken off a couple hours, packed up the cat, and paid for rides to/from the appointment (and needed this done ASAP), I weighed my options and just decided to pay the bait & switch price knowing that I would write this review warning other people of my experience. I consider myself a good-natured, down-to-earth human-being. I’m the kind of person that likes to leave large tips for good service just to see someone smile, and will go out of my way to help friends and family, and support local businesses because it’s the right thing to do. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Ormewood Animal Hospital to anyone based on my own experience. While the people I met were nice, they wasted my time and I left feeling cheated. ***** Update: The next day I received an email from Dr. Annie apologizing for the experience. She explained that they could lose their USDA accreditation if the blood sample was not handled in accordance with regulations. I understand her concern, and wish they had informed me while making the appointment that they could not release the sample. I wanted to add a star because they followed up and apologized, but they never really took responsibility for the error. And, to add insult to injury she said I was no longer welcome as a customer. (As if I planned on ever going back...smh). Just a poor experience overall.
If I could give 10 stars I could! Simply the best vet in Atlanta, period. These people are doing what they do with a genuine love in their heart for their patients and their well being. We have been to several vets all over the city at varying price points, and Ormewood Animal Hospital is by far the most affordable while still providing top-notch care. We originally brought our new puppy here to get neutered after being fed up with our old vet's price gouging. He was fawned over, snuggled and loved the moment we came in, and his neuter went perfect. Something else I love about Ormewood Animal Hospital--instead of advertisements for pet insurance, dog training, boarding, etc plastered all over their exam rooms and waiting area, instead, they have pictures/flyers from the community of lost pets and ads for pets needing a foster family. THAT alone says it all. After having such a great experience with our dog, we brought one of our cats here today and I was moved to tears when I got in my car after because I was so happy that Ormewood Animal Hospital took such great care of her. After years of being told by our old vet that our cat's ill health was "standard for cats" and "just the way cats are", Dr. James helped get to the bottom of it in one visit. I'm so, so grateful to him and the staff at Ormewood Animal Hospital. Thank you for caring for our pets as much as we do. Thank you for not taking advantage of the love I have for my pets and running me in "diagnosis circles" that lead to costly vet bills. Thank you for being honest, kind and having integrity. Please don't ever change. You guys are the absolute best and a vet you can trust wholeheartedly is so hard to find these days. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I recently took my dog, who had an array of puppy conditions, to this animal hospital as my regular vet was closed. I have listed the pros and cons of this place in my hopefully humble view: Pros- *Dr. Canavan is extremely skilled in the realm of proper diagnosis (my regular vet is pretty good but not nearly as sharp or naturally adept in this area). Your animal will be thoroughly reviewed by someone who knows her symptoms/diseases well. People seem to like the other vet, Dr. Price, a lot too. *They seem to really care about animals and treat them like they matter. *Both doctors and staff also seem to treat owners with good manners and thoughtfulness. *Nice, clean office in a good location that's easy to find even from my out of area neighborhood. Cons: *This place is expensive! They try to sell you anything and everything they can from tests and medicines to food even. I don't like that:-)! They should do better. People don't anticipate most vet bills, so I don't feel they should be so quick to tack on every little bit of charge they can in a given situation (the charges should probably be bit lower too). *They also do not approve of raw diet and, instead, strongly recommend what I think is not only less balanced and natural but truly inferior food for animals or humans for that matter. I obviously don't like that either:-). Verdict: I will go to this vet when I feel my dog needs thorough care and a proper diagnosis for a serious condition or what I think may be a serious condition. I will go to my regular vet for rabies shots and everyday illness or injury, as she is much less costly and also open to raw diets and holistic care. The bill usually about 1/3 to 1/4 of what I paid at Ormewood Animal Hospital.
I have a cat, whom I brought in as a kitten. The first time she saw Dr. Annie, who is good, knowledgeable and understanding of owner questions. The next few times I saw the other vet, whose name escapes me, and she is not good. She misdiagnosed a simple kennel cold, and gave me allergy medicine for my kitten, and she took weeks to recover. However, the full reason this place gets 1 star is that they perform the (neither easy or simple) surgery of declawing, which is really an amputation of each of the cat's toe bones. This has a number of detrimental health effects for the cat, can increase "bad behavior" in the home, and does not correlate to reduced surrender numbers vs cats that are not "declawed." I cannot comfortably endorse an establishment that practices this inhumane surgical procedure as a means of profit, when they could instead offer educational opportunities on alternative methods. I have withdrawn my cat from this business, and I am instead taking her to a nearby vet that does not support this cruel surgery, and I encourage others to do the same.
Prior to yesterday I would have rated these guys a 5 however my dog yesterday had a knee injury...Here knee caps are loose and can come out of place (Ormewood Animal Hospital diagnosed this problem several months ago). So as I sat in my car less than 2 block from Ormewood Animal Hospital telling them I'm about to pull up and my dog was in great pain....they stated that it was 5:30 and about to close and I needed to drive 15 miles across town in rush hour traffic to a 24 hour vet. All my dog needed was her knee cap adjusted which took the ER less than 30 seconds to do.... This is VET is a small business and needs to accommodate the locals. I'm a General Contractor in Grant Park and if you call me at Midnight with a broken water pipe I'm going to at least come over and shut your water off. NOT TELL YOU TO LOOK A PLUMBER UP IN THE YELLOW PAGES AND WAIT A HOUR WHILE YOUR HOUSE FLOODS. Sorry this was a deal breaker for me and I won't be back!
Jim Karasavvas , are you really still on here two years later dragging down our reviews? Get a hobby man. That's not at all what went down and I think most of our good clients would know that anyway. This whole online bullying thing, especially in times like this, is a really bad look for you. For anyone who is reading this.... the other side.... The animal wasn't sick. He needed a health certificate for travel the day he left. He did call right before we closed never mind the numerous hours before his call that we were open. Dr.James agreed to get him in because he was becoming increasingly more irate and he still wasn't happy. He then came into the clinic berated a technician who was holding her 5 month old to the point that we had to ask him to leave. Notice how two years after he is still doing this. Now a lot of you know me and have for a few years now. Does this sound at all like something we would do? - Carl
I just moved to the Grant Park area recently and needed to quickly find a vet for my dog, Dory. Dory has severe anxiety and also requires allergy shots about every six weeks (if your dog has allergies or gets rashes/itchy skin due to allergies, I highly recommend getting shots!). As many of you understand, Dory is my baby and I was stressing over finding the perfect vet for her. Luckily I came across Ormewood and Dr. Annie Price. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed and felt right at home. The staff was very thorough and kind, making sure Dory felt as comfortable as possible. Dr. Annie made sure to go over Dory’s history and symptoms to completely understand her situation. Since I am new to the area. Dr. Annie also helped me find local doctors and things to do in the area! I couldn’t be more thankful to have found Ormewood. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
We were taken back to the exame room immediately and the nurse came in quickly. The experience with the doctor was fine but overall the noise level was too much. With the kids care next door, we could hear screaming kids through the wall the entire time. One of the Vets had their baby with them, which is fine, but the entire staff was yelling and trying to entertain the child. The same Vet was at the checkout counter when we went to pay and continued to talk to us in a baby voice. Even when we checked out it took minutes for the attention to be taken off the child and for us to be checked out. We just stood there waiting. It seemed very unprofessional and distracting for the employees. I will probably go elsewhere the next time my cat needs a check up.
We love Ormewood Animal Hospital! Our dog has severe anxiety when visiting the vet almost always has had to be muzzled in the past - which makes it worse. Ormewood has never muzzled him. Instead, they take time at the beginning of the visit to calm him and get him in a good place before beginning any examination. Our dog knows this place is a safe place for him now :) The vet is gentle, kind, and knowledgeable with all of our pets. The front desk staff are always professional and friendly. The only downside to this place is that they are so popular it can be tough to get an appointment quickly because they are so booked. Highly suggest booking as far ahead of time as you are able.
I've been in the pet industry for more than 16 years. I have 2 big dogs and I am very picky with who I use for a Veterinarian. Due to my field, I probably "know of" every vet in the city of Atlanta....I love this practice and the fact that it hasn't become institutionalized, but it's more like a family atmosphere. I visited today with my dog Gus, who is my best friend... I was expecting some really bad news and instead got some really factual based news from their new DVM, Dr. James. Dr. James is very articulate, kind and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with Dr. James. Great group of folks and the vet techs/ front staff are so sweet and caring. Dr. Annie is amazing.
Would not recommend this place to anyone who loves their animal. So very sad. Not dependable and not there for us when my dog needed them the most even though it was an hour before closing. Won’t go the extra mile and cannot depend on them. Didn’t realize how their service has deteriorated over the years until I found another vet nearby that really cares. They need to reassess their priorities or leave animal care to other better qualified vets who are in the medical profession for the right reasons. And there are many good vets out there. Do your pet a favor and go elsewhere.
They have been very good to our dogs for many years now and have been one of the best vet practices that we have visited. We feel fortunate that they are part of our community and such a warm and caring group of professionals. As one of my older dog's health declined, they were extremely compassionate and amazing at answering my many questions over the phone and working him into their schedule. Dr. James, Dr. Annie, and the entire staff that we have interacted with over the years have been such kind and generous people. I cannot praise them enough.
I am able to review Ormewood Animal Hosptial, not only as a client but a former employee. I'm a Registered or Licensed Veterinary Technician that has worked in the field for 20+ years and I entrust the care of my own animals to Dr. Annie, Dr. James and Dr. Aubry. They and the whole team of OAH give their entirety to making sure your animals get the best care. I will gladly drive the 3+ hours from South Carolina to ensure my pets get the most thorough and attentive care available. I love these people from the bottom of my heart.
I brought my 9 year dog Cashmere here for a 2nd opinion. He was having pain and starting to go blind. Ormewood Animal were booked but worked me in for my fur baby. My original vet did not do this for me and have been taking my dogs to them since they were pups and my oldest is 13 years! The staff was so friendly and helpful! They explained everything to me clearly. The Vet called me to explain his findings and recommendations. Definitely recommend this clinic
Very considerate, responsive, and cost-conscious vet office. My 13 yo boxer-mix recently had an extensive operation and they have shown extraordinary care. Post-surgery, they answer my calls right away and seem to just drop everything to help. It’s really amazing. The earliest opening for our first appointment as new patients was several weeks out so recommend booking well in advance for your pet’s next annual checkup. It’s worth the wait.
I recently wrote a scathing review of the Ormewood Animal Hospital. I have since deleted the post. I was emotionally distraught. My dog was dying. I over reacted. I am only human. I realize Dr.Annie and her staff are doing the very best they can for their patients, considering the high volume of patients in the local communities. I am sure it’s no easy task. FYI- The fur baby is on the mend and is expected to have a full recovery.
We love Ormewood Animal Hospital! They take great care of our two pups and it's obvious that both the Vetrinarians and Vet Techs are animal lovers. They treat our pets as family. The vetrinarians have fantastic bed side manner and are always thorough in their explanations and recommendations. Lastly, we've found all procedures, medications, and services very reasonably priced. We highly recommend Ormewood Animal Hospital!
New to Atlanta/Decatur - Ormewood was recommened by ultrasound technicians (plural) running tests on one of my pups. "Dr. Annie" deserves "Notorious" status - - knowledgeable, thorough, caring -- one couldn't ask for a better doc for their best buds. Assistant Carl, front office Kirsten, and all others -- absolutely first class. And the clinic itself is delightful - just walking in the door is a warm fuzzy.
I called Ormewood Animal Hospital in attempt to get my dog some quick care (he’s old and fragile). They were booked solid too far out for my dogs needs, but the receptionist recommended me two great emergency vet clinics. I’m super impressed and grateful for their customer service, as every clinic I called beforehand didn’t bother to help like this one did.
I rarely write reviews, but we've taken our puppy Lulu here since she was 6 weeks and the staff are wonderful. They treat her like she's one of their own. We just had her spayed on Friday and she's home and happy wearing incredibly cute pyjamas. We've also taken our very shy cat here and he didnt seem to mind it one but. I'd recommend it to anyone.
I'm so happy I took my Rhodesian Ridgeback Jayna to Ormewood. Everyone is so warm and inviting. They have a skilled team and tools and were able to diagnose my girl quickly. I feel like we're a team addressing my dogs health and well being. Our treatment plan will be long term, but I feel supported by Ormewood and Dr. James, they have my back.
Ormewood animal hospital has cared for my four pets over the last couple of years, and I couldn’t be happier. My family became patients of Ormewood during the pandemic. In that time, I have seen the vets, technicians, and staff care for my dogs and cats, both for regular annual visits and the occasional illness. Dr. Aubrey is the best!
Absolutely LOVE Ormewood Animal Hospital. Every single staff member is so friendly and nice and they genuinely care about your pets. I adopted a puppy this year and had several urgent needs and they fit me in even last minute and helped her have such a great first few experiences at the vet. Would recommend them to anyone!
Dr. Aubry and Dr. Annie have provided fantastic service for our dogs and cats. I’ve recommended them to friends and family. You get the service you pay for here so things are not inexpensive. However, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a vet as thorough and caring about our pets.
Dr. Annie is wonderful. Every time we go in there. Nero (my furry nephew) is getting use to it because everyone is so nice. They offer you something to drink when you wait and the visit is quick. The best vet and animal hospital I've been in. They are my favorite.
What a wonderful vet office! The vet techs are all knowledgeable, sweet, funny, and kind. Dr Mathew has such a way with animals—tender, confident, and caring! I can't say enough good things about the service and attention. Bring your pet to Ormewood!
The incident was several years ago. I finally decided to post something so others would not go through the experience. And yes folks, it did happen. As for the second incident, my friend has no reason to lie about it. She had hoped to have
My dog and cat are both so well taken care of here. My dog had a surgical procedure here - Dr. Aubry spotted a tumor other vets missed, did a great job removing it, kept me informed, and treated my dog Iike her own. Jubilee loves her doc!
I love how homey this clinic feels- it really seems to calm my dog’s nerves. The place doesn’t have the typical echo of a vet’s office, so it really cuts down on noise. They also seem to be proactive about getting you into a room so you
Always go the extra mile! Caring, knowledgeable and friendly staff have cared for my pets for years. From puppy to little old man, they now advise on all aspects of my dog’s geriatric needs. Couldn’t be in better hands.
These folks care as much about your animals as their own. A cozy place that with lots of treats to keep your fur kids at ease. The people here are so friendly and helpful, always providing great advice and treatment.
Annie is hands down the best vet in town! Her staff is so friendly and focused on the care of your pet and also making sure that you as the owner know what to do. I can't say enough great things about this clinic!
I have followed Dr. Price since she was in Buckhead. She and her staff truly care about animals. They are good people and have a wonderful practice. In my mind, there is no other vet in Atlanta!
Dr. Meers gave Andy such loving care and quickly diagnosed and solved his ear problems. I’m a new client and will definitely continue with Ormewood. Thank you, Dr. Meers and staff.
Best of the best. There are other great places, but this one treats my little lady with such care that I know for certain I can always count on them. Staff is excellent ALL AROUND.
Best vet ever. Your pet will be legitimately ecstatic to be there and go hang out with their bffs, from Carl to Brittany to Dr James (just to name a few). Our dogs say thank you!
Great service up front and I trust the vets working here with my pup always. They make everything very clear and they are very experienced with handling any pet.
This place is amazing. The staff always go above and beyond for our kitties. Special shout out to Dr. James and Carl - you guys are the best!
Can't say enough of my experience here. Dr. James, Dr. Aubry, Brittany, Catherine & all of the other team members here go above & beyond..
Dr. Annie and her staff are the best! They actually care about and love all of their patients. I wouldn't take my fur babies anywhere else!
Dr. Annie and Carl are two of the most caring people I've ever met. I love my babies and feel that they couldn't be in better hands.
Friendly and attentive staff who treat your pets like their own children. Best vets we've ever had and our pets don't dread visits.
Really excellent people especially during these crazy times. I spoke with Carl (so helpful and kind). I definitely recommend!
Extremely friendly and helpful staff. They go the extra length to make sure pets in their care get the help they need.
I take all my fur babies to OAH. The staff is super friendly and they take great care of my 19 yo senior yorkiepoo.
Apollo the pit bull LOVES IT HERE. Never known a dog to love the vet, super friendly staff! Awesome COVID response!
The friendliest staff I have ever met. I had to go through 3 vets until I settled with Ormewood Animal Hospital.
Welcoming, affectionate staff. Reasonably priced and adequately explained health procedures. Helpful services.
Love Ormewood Animal Hospital! The whole staff is outstanding. I feel like my pup is very cared for!
These folks are simply the best. Always kind. Always thorough. We feel so lucky to have found them.
This is where we take our fur babies, and I couldn't be happier with the care we get.
Very friendly and caring staff. Our dog is in good hands with the staff at Ormewood.
Nice place with genuine friendly faces. The affordable vaccines are done here too.
